It was a great book. Nice to get answers to questions Anadi "Jess", has had for many years. I'm so glad she met Panat, they were able to rely on each other and became very close. He taught her life saving skills. Jess certainly knows how to take care of business and is one heck of a strong person, her will is like no others. She has been through so much and has been so confused. Now, I feel she received some answers and can now have the companionship of Panat. Together they can look into and tie up any loose ends. It was great to have Jack back in this book and congrats to him. Jesse's journey took her to many exotic destinations, taking care of things for other people, via her very special gifts. She senses things aren't right or what they seem, however this group uses different leverage, to get her to do their bidding. In the end she questions the organization that's been using her. A lot of betrayal, hard to find people to trust, quite a bit of killing, mystery, I'd read it again.
Jess was once again on a mission and she was feeling really manipulated. She was feeling as though she was playing God acting as judge, jury and executioner to her targeted victims. The manipulation she felt was coming from the watchers who were setting her up to kill but this was not just another killing, this was the killing of Azazel - an immortal like herself. One who had lived far longer than she had and who possessed psychic powers. What if she was not meant to kill him? what if he could be of help to her? She was now called Anadi - a God in her own right - Primal- there to keep the balance in the world, created by nature itself for its own preservation. As usual this was a very exciting read from start to finish. Jess discovers more about who she really is and how strong she in fact has become in this book! There was less killing in this book than in the previous ones but those she killed, she killed in style as only Jess/Anadi knows how. She is also learning how to better control her blood lust with a little help from a friend! A brilliant read and one that keeps the reader riveted, with such a strong female character as its protagonist and a charismatic one too!
I immediately started reading the third book as I could not wait to see what happened with Tonal and the situation in the world. The book did not disappoint, it was equally engaging as the previous books, and best of all, the ending is open for continuation of the series. There were some issues with a group of people pursuing Tonal because of the decades past, however, this question was not addressed in the book. Maybe it is not even relevant any longer, after all, people die, Tonal is immortal. The author is consistent in her critical analysis of the society and human drawbacks. She is yet again addressing the issue of human greed and struggle for power, as they seem the main reasons for Tonal's existence. Tonal's moral and ethical values remain unchanged despite her inner struggle, betrayal of the people closest to her, or promises of wealth and power. She is truly unique in her strength of spirit. The story starts about a year after the previous book finishes and this time Tonal is travelling to Asia. Most of the story plays out in Europe and Asia, with reaching a full circle when Tonal return to her Amazonian jungle for a final showdown. The book is brilliantly written, the story is gripping, logical and consistent, as well as original. This book was somewhat calmer than the previous ones, but so was Tonal. This part of the story contained less violence and more contemplation, less deterioration of society and more focus on personal relationships and failings of the people in the close circle. Finally, Tonal's origin and the myth are revealed, and some additional, unasked, questions are answered. The story is nowhere near over and I hope that the author is planning to continue with it. There are three books in the series and the prequel: Warmonger, Primal Nature, Nature of the Beast, and The Beast Inside.
Our leading lady meets Panet in this book and he feels more to her than any other but he is mortal poor girl is sick of her immortal life, the author really do display her pain very well and deliver her heartache nicely told as we take this journey with her. You can clearly see why she hides in a jungle for 20 years of more when she out lives everyone.
This book she gains another name, but I had a problem with that she is her own person, here it felt they wanted her to be the person before her. At least Julio and Jack named her out of love and respect for her. If Panet loved her wouldn't he want to know her birth name? (We still don't know what that is,maybe a old fashioned name she is like two hundred, after all she was not born called Primal, hey primrose fitting) ,
I was sad that Jack was only in it for like 30 seconds at beginning and end.But glad they showed him as a true friend to her. She needs more not in love with her wanting sex friends.Maybe a female friend or two.
This book we finally find out the why and how (no government experiments sorry) it was very different very original so well done to the author and we'll done to making it very complex poor Jess or whatever we are calling her now (she needs a nickname for always nuke comes to mind she do nuke the evil)
Book 3 was not as exciting for me as the first 2 stories. I felt like “Jess” was a completely different person and I felt like the writing was completely different. The writing felt more broken up hitting pieces of facts. Learning more about the watchers was interesting but it didn’t get too far and I expected more out of the storyline with Aze. I thought that was anti-climatic. The romance storyline in this book didn’t seem anything like previous relationships... which I understand is the point, but I never felt like I got to know Panet really.. it felt rushed to me and the first 2 books had pretty graphic intimate scenes and while it’s not I really important, this one had none and barely hinted to “more”. Again this is why I felt like it was a different writer. I think I will read the next book to give it another chance but this one didn’t really do it for me.
This is the first book in the series that I read. I didn't realize it was the middle of the story. I enjoyed the storyline about Jess finding out about herself. I didn't feel that I started in the middle of a story. There was a beginjng, middle, and conclusion. I enjoyed how Jess worked her way through all that was thrown at her and how one can find love in the most unexpected places. I highly recommend this story
Book 3 in this series, this time Jess finds out a bit more about her origins and what she is. Starting in Australia then moving to India she travels to kill a dictator who is spreading drugs and to find out more about herself. More intrigue than book 2 and a lot less blood ;-)
In this, one of the best fantasy series around, we find out much more about Jess in book 3. She is trying to slow her blood lust with the help of a friend but that doesn't stop her from accepting a dangerous assignment to kill Emperor Bharata. Monique Singleton is a master of this genre.
In this outstanding book, Jess is rescued from prison by a conniving benefactor. She has to accept a dangerous assignment to kill a bad king. More intrigue, less blood, either way superb. Received a free copy.
This series is very unique. I haven't ever read anything like this. The books are all connected to a long history and possibly a long future. I look forward to seeing where this ends.
I am enthralled by this highly original series. It's like nothing else I have read. Some odd word choices yank me out of the reading zone. Not UK English but odd idiosyncratic usages. Autocorrect problems perhaps. They should be corrected
I'm amazed that this author can write so many fantastic novels, I hope that she never stops writing. Her books are some of the best Entertainment I have read and worth the time to read them. Thank you for a very fun entertaining read.
I was given this book as a beta reader. Hopefully my corrections helped out. I believe this was the best so far in the series. Many of my questions were answered. I just love the main character!
Best book to date for the series. We find out more and her but soooo many more questions are left unanswered and so many new things pop up. I camt wait for book 4
While I enjoyed the storyline, Beast Within had a lot of repetitiveness (most often in Anadi/Jess' self-reflective moments). On the whole, though, I liked the plot and the characters. A great ending.
Learning about her orgins might mean the end of everything.
Absolutely brilliant - I can't really put into words how great this really is. A wonderful new take on shifters, the Four Horsemen and the interaction they all have with Mother Nature. Imprisoned, she is only freed on the agreement that she terminates a dictator. Her mission leads her to finding out more about herself. Lies, greed, power and control are all mixed in this explosive read. Culminating in a fight with another like her. Fast moving action, plots within plots are skillfully wove with a subtle thread of romance. A great read that will have you wanting the next part to this story "Now!". I received a free copy for a honest review.
Another winner. In Book 3 Jess/Anadi learns more about herself, does less killing, and how to control her blood lust with the help of a friend. This is an exceptionally well written series. Hopefully Book 4 will be available soon as I really want to know what comes next. I highly recommend this book as well as the first two in the series.
To help a friend, Jess takes on an assignment. She didn’t expect to end up on a journey to learn about herself and encounter a secret society. A journey with a new name, “Anadi”, a new friend and mighty enemies. A journey through betrayal and a confrontation who can cost her sanity and even her live. Excellent book. Monique is a fantastic storyteller. I can’t wait for the next installment of the Primal series.
