I loved learning some new words and phrases in Te Reo Māori. I thoroughly recommend this book for anyone wanting to learn a few simple words and phrases that they can incorporate into their everyday lives. I think it is spectacular that after Māori language week this year, all the NZ TV news stations continued using Māori language as part of their normal delivery. This is how a language becomes/remains a living language: through use and normalisation of use.
Kia kaha Kiwis!
Kia kaha - be strong, get stuck in, keep going
pronounced - key-a (A in arm) ka (ka in karma) ha - (rhymes with the ka)
In New Zealand the debate about Te Reo, or the language of our native Maori people, has never been more intense. Definitely there is a growing interest from many quarters of incorporating it into our everyday lives. Of course not everyone is keen and the debate will no doubt stay alive long into the future.
For those who fancy dipping their toes into Te Reo without having to devote themselves to lessons or full-on immersion into the language, this is the ideal way to do it.
"A Maori word a day" is the easy peasy way to develop your knowledge of Te Reo, one of our country's official languages, and your knowledge of everyday greetings, farewells, introductions and a host of other handy Maori words will develop quickly and competently.
There are also fun facts and simple sentences to go with each day's "word". The Te Reo language is already achieving a higher profile on our TV screens and some radio channels, so this is your opportunity to be part of the movement.
