A woman in danger… A lost baby… A long journey home… Peggy is nothing special. As the night janitor at Westbridge High, she just wants to finish cleaning so she can hurry home and work on her art. For Peggy, nothing makes her feel more alive than when she’s standing in front of a canvas. Then one night, everything changes… A woman in trouble runs up to Peggy and gives her a child. She begs Peggy to take the child to Fablestone where the baby will be safe. From what? Peggy doesn’t know. All she knows is that the two agents who show up on her doorstep the next day aren’t with the FBI, and she’d bet anything they’re scientists who want to get their hands on dragon’s blood. That’s not going to happen. Not on Peggy’s watch. Peggy doesn’t have a choice. She has to get the baby to the Fablestone clan before the full moon ends. She has to reach Fablestone before it’s too late. The fate of the clan is resting on Peggy, and she swore a dragon's oath to return the child to its rightful home. She'll do whatever it takes, even if it costs her everything.

I was initially enjoying the story. It was different and appealed to me. But about 10 chapters in it went off the rails. The instant-mates thing is hard enough, but the fact that they claimed love within hours of meeting just didn't work. I ended up DNF'ing it. There wasn't enough to keep me reading after that.

I thought this book was close to good. It was almost a good romance. It was almost a good action story. There was just not quite enough info on what was going on with the characters and the events to really get into the story.

I will read the next story to see if the author fleshes out the story because I think this story world has great potential.

Dragon's Oath by Sophie Stern is a wonderful story that I have read and fell in love with. This is book number one in this wonderful start to a brand new series that I have fallen in love with since I read the blurb. This story has a dragon shifter in it and I can not wait to read the next book in this series. I highly recommend this story to everyone who love reading about dragon shifters, Sci-Fi and paranormal romance.

I love romance books with a mystery or suspenseful event but, add humor to the mix and I'm all in. That is how this book captivated me. Peggy is a human janitor that is cornered by a woman bleeding and terrified. Peggy swears an oath to take her baby girl to her brother in Fablestone. She has this little voice inside that warns her that things may not be right or that things will work out. I love her inner (sometimes outer) dialog with herself. She is hilarious, smart, brave and honorable. She packs up her 2 new kitten rescues into her backpack, packs up her baby supplies and Daisy (the baby) and heads out to find Fablestone. When she meets Cameron I cracked up. He thinks he knows how she's going to respond and what she will do when she learns he's a dragon. Boy, was he wrong! She is so unpredictable and straightforward, plus she's not afraid of shifters. Even dragons. She, however is prepared to fight with them. They are up against a covert organization that kidnaps shifters and tortures and experiments on them. If you like fast-paced, action packed, humorous read, this will fit the bill. I am starting book 2 right now. I requested an advanced reader copy from Booksprout and am under no obligation to leave this review.

I couldn’t even get past chapter two. Normally, I don’t mind swearing, but the FC just dropped the f-bomb willynilly. The MC kept screaming. Not yelling, not talking loudly, screaming.

This is book one of The Fablestone Clan series and the main character is night janitor Peggy Dane, who works nights at Westbridge High, leaving her days to do what she loves, art. At the end of her shift one night, she gets an uncomfortable feeling of being watched as she walks towards her car. Just as she gets there a woman puts her hand over her mouth and asks her for help. The woman, Ellie, is bleeding badly, but only wants help for her baby, Daisy, and gets Peggy to swear a dragon oath to get her baby to Fablestone and to ask for her twin brother Cameron and warn her clan that the Lucky group are coming for them. Lucky are a group who have been abducting shifters, especially dragons, experimenting and torturing them supposedly for a cure for cancer, but more likely for some more nefarious reason! Wilson Clarke is the Fablestone clan leader and has been gathering information from his scouts on the Lucky facility closest to them, that David, Ellie’s husband and their baby were captured and seen being taken into. Cameron desperately wants to organise a rescue operation, but agrees to wait for more data. Later that day Peggy gets a visit from a couple of official looking people, looking for something, a baby in particular, but there is something very off about them and she knows she can’t trust them. A slight mistake with supplies in plain view could almost ruin everything, but she made a promise to the injured woman and refuses to let the baby be taken away from where she belongs!

When Peggy makes it to the stone tower which is a supposed marker for the Fablestone Clan area of the huge forest, with baby Daisy and the two kittens she rescued, Mocha and Frappe. Cameron finds her there and doesn’t reveal who he is to start, when he probably should have, if he wanted her trust from the beginning. A misunderstanding finds Peggy getting herself in trouble and needing assistance. Once they get to the clan’s village in the forest, Wilson agrees to organise a rescue attempt and a neighbouring dragon clan arrange to attack another facility at the same time. They don’t know what they may face and what weapons Lucky may have that are effective on shifters. The raid is not entirely successful and produces some shocking results, as they discover some of the misery and sick treatments being used upon their fellow shifters. Cameron’s dragon kept trying to tell Cameron that Peggy was theirs, from the first minute he set eyes on her, but he is reluctant to have much to do with a human! The fact she made an oath to his sister and kept Daisy safe to return her to her family, he considers amazing. The Fablestone clan are in danger, as are lots of other shifters, in a world that no longer trusts them and has left most hiding away from humans. Peggy has inserted herself right in the heart of the clan and her life may never be the same again! A nice start to a series, with danger, attraction, a dangerous foe and a new look at life. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Peggy is an artist by day and a janitor at the high school by night. She has a caring heart and takes in two abandoned kittens she found by the side of the road. One night she has just finished her custodian job and is ready to go to her car but she has a feeling that she is being watched. Just before she makes it to her car, she is grabbed by an injured woman named Ellie. Ellie begs Peggy to take her baby and go to Fablestone and give them Ellie's message. Ellie makes Peggy swear a dragon oath to keep her promise. Peggy does her research and finds a vague description on how to get to Fablestone. She has just two days to get to the fourth tower in the woods. Peggy packs up Daisy, the baby and her kittens and starts her hike.

Cameron is a dragon shifter who lives in Fablestone. He is worried since his twin's husband and their baby were taken by a group called Lucky who experiment on shifters. His twin Ellie goes to rescue her family but hasn't come back. Cameron wants to rescue his family but the alpha wants to gather more info first. Since Cameron is the Guardian of the fourth tower, it is his job to protect the way to Fablestone. On the full moon he has to be at the tower in case there is a dragon shifter that needs safety. To Cameron's surprise, that night Peggy, a human comes to the tower carrying 2 kittens and his niece. Cameron is suspicious of Peggy because she might be working for Lucky but his dragon is calling her mate. Can Peggy and Cameron work together to save Daisy's family?

This story was just too much for me.
Too much forced drama. Too much uninspired insta-mate. Too much lackluster romance.

I just had a hard time all over. I found the female lead annoying and whiny. The male lead was without contours. I could for the life of me not figure out the actual social structure. There was no explanation to why the dragons (or the one wolf) acted the way they did. It was like jumping into a world that the author herself was familiar and assumed her readers would know that world too.

Sure, there was potential for a good story and the blurb was really intriguing, if somewhat misleading. The story barely mentioned how Peggy got to Fablestone.

What a good storyline and good characters too. Peggy was a single woman living by herself working a night job as a janitor so she could do her art work during the day. She lived right by the forest where she wondered what was in there. She is accosted by a woman with a baby and takes a dragon oath which she takes very seriously, the woman gives her a message to give a man in the deep forest and to take the baby to him plus that there was danger coming to the dragons. Peggy accepts the oath and her adventure begins. Interesting storyline. Good read!

meh & ends at 74%

This was a quick read. Too quick actually. There’s no character development. The mating is super quick in that it’s within 24 hours of them meeting. It’s just not enough. I didn’t feel anything that would make me believe it. I feel like I’ve been ripped off and so much was left out, if that makes sense.

Don’t recommend. Not sure if I’ll even try this author again.

A little more development, this could be something

But as it is, it's instalove at it's worst. The relationship is built on mysticism and assumptions, the bad guys are only tenuously developed, and there's a rag rug worth of loose ends.

Peggy Dane is a school janitor at Westbridge High School. She took the job so her days are free to paint, to draw, and to create. But her nights are spent cleaning up after people who don’t care about the mess they make. She’s tired tonight, having rescued two kittens who kept her up all night meowing for their mom. She would have called in sick, but she needs the money and can’t do that.

As she is leaving the school, she feels like she is being watched. Hoping she is just over-tired, she walks at a normal pace to her car, scanning the edge of the forest nearby. She makes it to the car, but suddenly a bleeding woman grabs her arm, passes a baby to her, and makes her swear an oath, biting her on the wrist! The oath is that she will take the child to Fablestone where they will know what to do, find Cameron and tell him Ellie sent her, and tell him Lucky is coming. When Peggy looks up, the injured and hunted woman is gone.

Wilson Clarke, the dragon clan leader, told Cameron that his twin sister Elly has been missing for 4 days. Cameron is furious that scientists may have captured his sister, tortured her, and bled her out to see if dragon’s blood really can cure cancer or whatever else they are curious about! But he is sure she is not dead! Ellie’s husband David and Cameron’s niece, Daisy, are also missing and Ellie had gone after them to try to save them. No one taken by Lucky is ever returned.

The Clan needs to decide now if they should attack the evil facility or is everyone most likely dead? How did human tech nerds steal a dragon shifter?

After searching the internet all night, Peggy finds a blog that mentions Fablestone as a haven for shifters. That has to be the place the woman wanted the baby to be taken. There are odd directions given for how to find it: “By the fourth stone tower at the brightest point on the fullest night”. That will be in less than 48 hours.

Peggy makes it to Fablestone and wakes to find a naked man covering her mouth with his hand. He won’t tell her who he is, so she surprises him and escapes. Will he catch up to her to get the message Ellie has sent to him? Will he be in time to warn his Clan about the danger heading toward them? And why is he feeling strange feelings for Peggy – as if she might be his mate?

This was an awesome book with a well-paced story line and great characters. I love Peggy and her overwhelming compassion and kindness. She is so strong, and everything she does comes from a generous heart. Grab your copy and see what lies ahead for Cameron and Peggy and the dragon Clan.

DNF at 57%. I made it more than halfway despite wanting to put it down many times.

The characters are sort of interesting. The plot is kind of interesting too. The platform is there but it’s not filled out. The view we have of all of it is explanatory and basic, I guess. It’s not filled out.

Peggy is a night janitor at a high school. She paints during the day. It’s unclear if she is painting toward a career or just a really passionate hobby. She does not talk or think about art really. And does she have a family? Is she alone? Did she go to school for art? What does she paint? She is a Good Person and the author shows this in several ways (which is good) but outright states it repeatedly in the inner thoughts of the MMC, which makes her too saintly and too perfect.

The MMC is obsessed with his sister. She’s missing and probably dead and his concern is good. But his violent outbursts and tantrum type behavior is a bit over the top. I think there is just so much time spent on how much he loves his sister that it starts getting to where you want to know why the author is focusing on this.

And the dialogue is weird and stilted. Lots of adverbs to describe their tone and lots of blurting. It felt like “now we realize we are mates.” “Oh we are mates? Cool. I believe you.” “Ok well I want to have sex now.” “Yay”.

The world building was also unsatisfactory. The references to how one shifter did something bad and now there’s an anti-shifter president and so forth seemed like too blatant a play on current events.

Before I say anything I want to clarify: I do not think this is a bad book, and the author created a cute world that works for her.

If you’re looking for an endlessly sweet, albeit quick, low stakes dragon shifter x human mate story — look no further, you found it. This is the story of Peggy and Cameron. The world is similar to ours, with a little post-apocalyptic vibes, or post-dragon awareness since it mostly hinges on societies awareness of dragons, and the scientists who try to exploit, test, and kill them.
But this is just the start of a series and I believe the world may become more complex.

Peggy is just a human woman working as a night janitor. Nothing special about her, except that she takes an oath from a random woman to save her baby, and brings said baby to fablestone, a place she discovers on the Internet after one night of searching and very little struggle. Anyway, there she meets Cameron, a dragon shifter, who is immensely curious about Peggy. Pretty quickly they team up, eventually discover that they are mates, fight a battle, and then live happily ever after. Meanwhile, some new woman’s story begins, furthering the world’s ongoing story.

My main issue? Just not enough to it! I thought everything, if dragged out and built up with tension, could have been fascinating. But it wasn’t drawn out in ways I normally see, and therefore, it’s sweet, to the point, and what it is.

It was kind of a nice brain break. I definitely would have liked more tension but sometimes you just gotta appreciate a story for what it is. And that’s all there is to it.

When Peggy gets off work, a woman holding a baby comes out of the dark and begs her to take her baby and bring the child to Fablestone. She makes her a promise to do so and then the woman grabs her arm and bites her. She's shocked by what transpired but she brings the baby home to think about what to do. She isn't sure if she should just bring the child to the police but something in her tells her not to and then two people knock on her door and question her if she's seen a woman with a baby. Peggy knows they aren't real authorities so she lies and says no. Peggy knows she has to keep her promise and bring the child to Fablestone so after some internet searching she sets off to this place with the child.

Once there she encounters a dragon shifter who knows who the baby is but because Peggy is a human, he doesn't trust her at first and that costs him precious time that he ends up finding out they didn't have. Once we find out who the woman was, who she was running from and why, we're off on a race against time to save the woman and others.

This was a great story about a race to get a child home, find her mother and save her. The romance between Peggy and the dragon shifter who saves her was a bit in the back of the story as they have other things they need to worry about.

This dragon shifter romance was a fantastic read and what a fabulous and unique story line this story had. The sexual chemistry between the characters when they meet was undeniable. Sophie Stern has yet again written another fabulous book and wow I found it difficult to put down it was that good.

A whole new world by MeemsAngel82

This is something really cool and I loved the concepts used here. A full read and it does become insta, the writing is done well even though some places felt a tiny bit elongated. The story was such an amazing idea and these characters are fun.

Trusted with a dragon's secrets, and two adorable kittens, she sets off to seek a fabled but really real dragon town. Seeking help and not even knowing her little package was going to her uncle-her help and her fated mate.

This was so exciting and I was so for it. When she did reach the dragon's meet point, things got a little different. Our protector did great but the emotional connections for his niece wasn't strong at all. No holding or being elated at getting her back. Same with the other members of the clan. I just expected more emotions and connections with the returned baby and even the cute little kittens. How adorable those names were! And then she and him instantly got together and fated and it needed more. Because these ideas were SO good I was hoping for more. A lovely read and while I favorite wolf shifters, how cool are dragon ones?! They are so amazing!

ONE PIECE OF PERFECTION!!!
Intensely delightful! Sophie not only brought the house down, she razed the entire town, leaving nothing but rubble in her wake. Non-stop, action packed, hard hitting, page flipping, block busting bombshell that keeps you riveted on a razors edge. Sparks fly as intrigue, danger and suspense ensues in epic proportions. Add distress and turmoil and you have the recipe for one prize winning dynamo. A spinning throng of vexing circumstances and a bevy of daunting events thrusts this bad boy to life beautifully. Ramping all the swirling emotions into play with every color on the spectrum. Pushing through the trials and tribulations along with a multitude of plot twists and turns that leaves you reeling. The characters personalities are authentic, genuine and realistic with depth and qualities that transform and blend smoothly. The scenes are so vividly detailed and descriptive its paints a fantastic backdrop. Remarkable job Sophie, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.

Snooze

*****Spoilers*****

It's too surface level and I wasn't able to connect emotionally to the characters. Peggy was too good to be true and Cameron was blah. The story was meh but I wasn't intrigued. Peggy swears an oath to Ellie, who is a dragon shifter. The promise is for Peggy to take the child that Ellie gives her and return to a certain place and give a message to someone named Cameron. Cameron is a dragon shifter, Ellie is his sister, and Daisy is his niece. Ellie was injured and on the run so Peggy, kind heart takes the baby and decides not to take the baby to the police. Some people show at her house later looking for Ellie, but Peggy's high school acting days pay off for her and she's able to throw those people off the scent enough to get out and to the forest. This is when she and Cameron meet. For some reason I can't understand, he doesn't tell Peggy who he is even though she said she was looking for him. Peggy gets drawn into the conflict that the dragons have with an evil organization experimenting on dragons.

1.5 stars. Freebie on amazon that I picked up after I forgot my actual kindle at home one day (it's in airplane jail). tldr; it's freebie garbage.

It'd be a solid 2 stars if it had maintained what it brought to the table at the beginning, but the author must have gotten lazy towards the end and just wanted to get it done. I can roll my eyes at the instalove and the rushed ending, but what really "did it" for me (in a bad way) was when the author calls Henrietta Daisy and Cameron's mother on page 114. Daisy is the plot catalyst and the character that holds this whole book together, and the author couldn't even keep her family straight? Henrietta is her grandmother. That kind of mistake making it to a final draft is just flagrant laziness. This is why people think free books are garbage, and this is one of those books that I can't defend against that stereotype.

The 200 page count on the ebook is heavily padded by a sneak peak of another book; truly, you can whip through this in an hour or two, but I wouldn't even reccomend that.

This is the first book in The Fablestone Clan series by Sophie Stern. Peggy is a night janitor at Westbridge High leading a quiet life who finds joy in painting. But everything changes when a desperate woman hands her a baby and begs her to take the child Daisy to Fablestone, a hidden sanctuary. Peggy doesn’t know why the baby is in danger, only that the agents who show up at her door aren’t from the FBI and are obsessed with dragon’s blood. Peggy embarks on a journey to deliver Daisy to Cameron of the Fablestone Clan, a secretive group of dragon shifters. Along the way, she discovers her own strength, uncovers hidden truths, and finds herself drawn into a world she never imagined. This is a fast-paced paranormal romance about a woman thrust into a world of danger, magic, and dragon shifters after being entrusted with a mysterious baby. I really enjoyed this fantastic paranormal romance novel.

Peggy and Cameron

Peggy is a janitor at a school. She works nights after everyone leaves. One night as she is leaving the school, a bleeding woman comes up to her, gives her a baby, a makes her swear an oath. The oath is to take the baby to Fablestone and tell Cameron a message. Then she bites her wrist and disappears.
Cameron is a dragon shifter. His twin sister Elly is missing. Elly's husband and baby were kidnapped by an evil entity that experiments on shifters. She went after them and now she is either kidnapped or dead.
Peggy meets Cameron when she tries to fulfill her oath.
This is an insta-love/mate story. Two of the evil labs are found but the home base is not, so the shifters will be continuing to fight them in the next book.
This has a sad part but overall has a hea ending.

She nailed him in the family jewels to escape. Peggy is brave. Peggy is the school janitor who works at night and was approached by Ellie. Ellie apparently is a dragon shifter who made her take an oath. Her job is to go to a special location and deliver a message and her baby Daisy to Cameron. Peggy makes a decision and treasures to the forest is theirs for Cameron. Little does she know that half the adventure that she has endured with this dragon shifter is none other than Cameron himself. Cameron’s dragon believes that this is their mate. he doesn’t believe so but stranger things have happened. His twin Ellie is in danger. Her husband is in danger. Fun action packed continuation of the story but no cliffhanger for this couple.

A Oath to a Dragon Leads to a HEA

A young human cleaning woman getting off work at first feels like she is being watched. Then a(dragon shifter) woman runs up pushing a baby into her arms and rapidly telling her to take the baby to Fablestone, who to ask for and a message for them. This dragon shifter woman ask her to swear she will get her baby to safety and then bites her wrist (without even explaining what it means, which she won't find out till it no longer matters). Two strangers come by her house that night asking if she saw the woman and calling her by name. She hurries to gather what she needs, the baby, and the little information she could find on this strange place that she hopes she can find so she can get the baby to its family. She has no idea she will find a dragon community, love, a family, a real home for herself even if there is also some danger.
