Tracy can't explain why she's drawn to a mysterious statue in the Goth club where she bartends. Stranger still, she's been confiding her innermost secrets to it, as it it were an old friend.
But, when her ex shows up one night, drunk and aggressive, the solid stone statue turns to living, breathing, and scorchingly sexy flesh...
Gargoyle shifter Danton transforms to human form to protect Tracy, the woman he has yearned for. Now, he only has twenty-four hours before a curse returns him to stone. How can convince a woman who didn't know he existed to spend those precious hours with him?
HEAT is a novella in the Underground Encounters series, set in a club that attracts supernatural creatures. Each features a different couple — and perhaps species! — and can be read on its own.
Step into Vamps, a thrilling new world of steamy paranormal romance featuring sexy shifters, thirsty vampires, wicked witches, and gorgeous gargoyles.
USA Today bestselling author Lisa Carlisle loves stories with dark, brooding heroes or quirky outcasts. Her romances have been named Top Picks at Night Owl Reviews and The Romance Reviews.
When she was younger, she worked in a variety of jobs, moving to various countries. She was stationed in Okinawa while in the Marines, backpacked alone through Europe, and worked in Paris before returning to the U.S. She owned a bookstore for a few years as she loves to read. She’s married with two kids, two cats, and too many fish.
The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 💙🤎🖤 Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📙 World building: 🌏🌍🌏 Character development: 😍😚😉 Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙 Narration Type: Dual Narration
The heroine:Tracy - a bartender at Vamps, a goth nightclub. She seems compelled to be near and talk to one of the gargoyle statues that are in the bar. She is a college student with anxiety and worries about her younger brother who has been struggling in school. When her abusive ex boyfriend nearly attacks her in the club, the gargoyle statue turns into a handsome man who rescues her.
The Hero:Danton - He has been locked inside his stone shell until Tracy needed his protection. The gargoyle shifters are protectors of the human race. He becomes human when someone needs assistance and stays human for twenty four hours before returning to stone, that was the curse put on them by a witch. Though if he finds love, he can break the curse.
The Story: This was a short book at <130 pages and took quickly devolved into smuttiness. I mean Tracy was certainly surprised at the fact that Danton was a supernatural being but she was too quick to take him to her house and then to her bed. I would want to find out much more about the guy before jumping into bed no matter how hot he was, especially after her last experience with a guy.
Also she supposedly had anxiety but the appearance of a naked man out of nowhere didn’t trigger an anxiety attack? It seemed like the gargoyle storyline was just a plot device to get to the smut rather than the actual plot. I like a good story along with my smut, and it did get a bit better as it went along, we found out more about the curse and Danton’s brothers.
This book was told in dual points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Amber Lee Connors and Kieran Flitton, whose voice reminds me a bit of Tom Cruise at times. Both of these narrators do a good job and Amber Lee has a youthful feminine voice which was very pleasing and perfect for Tracy. Though I didn’t like the fact that Danton was French. The accent sounded more Transylvanian than French.
HEAT (Underground Encounters Book 5) by Lisa Carlisle is a fast paced novella that returns the reader to the hot and steamy paranormal romance world of VAMPS. All types of paranormal creatures are drawn to VAMPS and this novella features a gorgeous gargoyle shifter.
Tracy is a bartender at VAMPS who has overcome an abusive relationship. She has taken out an order of protection, taken self-defense classes and now focuses her personal life on attending college and spending time with her little brother when not working at VAMPS. Through all her troubles, Tracy has confided everything to the gargoyle statue by the bar. She does not know why she is drawn to the statue, but she considers it an old friend.
Danton is a powerful gargoyle shifter who transforms into human form to protect people in danger, but especially Tracy. He anxiously awaits her shifts at the club and yearns for her as a man. When Tracy’s ex shows up drunk and attacks her, Danton comes to life. Due to a curse, he only has twenty four hours in his human form to convince Tracy to spend the time with him and possibly more?
This novella has Tracy and Danton instantly attracted and having sex. There is a twenty four hour time limit and it is a novella, so it calls for a quick hook-up, but based on Tracy’s past with abuse, I felt very uncomfortable with her decision. The author does take you through Tracy’s thought process and explains her feelings, but I feel it would have made a better novel length story with the topic of abuse. Tracy and Danton are well written for the shortness of the story and I really did like them. As always in this series, Ms. Carlisle’s sex scenes are smokin’ hot and steamy and a new paranormal lover appears in each with interesting world-building and backstory.
I will be looking forward to more stories coming out of VAMPS and the Underground Encounter series.

Swoon! This was super cute and yes a fast read but it didn’t feel rushed. And spicy for sure, but can’t help to have puppy dog eyes for Dalton. I would love for a more in depth book going into the curse and after, or the brothers stories. Cute!
I read the blurb and I was sucked in. A gargoyle that comes to life to protect a woman?
I don’t think I paid attention to the fact this was a novella, which means the pace accelerated quickly. Very steamy! The progressions all worked for me, and I like the premise. A goth nightclub that hides more than your average patron.
Things that made me raise my eyebrows: a gargoyle who looks like Fabio with a French accent. Okay, I can roll with it. Toward the end when she assumes he didn’t return to stone. Seems as if her impending danger might have recalled him, but again, I can roll with it. I enjoyed the story. It was a quick read and the pacing moved well.
One place that took me out of the story - the epilogue. Danton talks about how he uses his wings to travel. So when they go from Boston to Paris, that was my assumption until he asks if she wants to fly and she’s suddenly afraid. Then he asks if she’s ever flown in a plane. How did they get there if those two options weren’t accessed?
Overall, a fun read, and I still love the way she morphed the gargoyle.
Let's partaaaaaay at Vamps tonight, you never know who you might meet!
Tracy has always been drawn to the gargoyle statue at Vamps where she bartends, she tells the gargoyle of stone all about her problems good and bad and pets him along the way. Little does she know that the gargoyle is all man and has fallen for her throughout the years. When her abusive ex shows up at Vamps and attempts to accost her, the gargoyle comes to life in order to protect her and Tracy learns Danton's dark secret, only she can save him from a perpetual curse of stone, but she has been badly hurt and is afraid of commitment much less to a man she just met, but did she just meet him. Will Tracy come to the realization that she has made bad choices in her life and that it's time to make a good one? Especially with a man that's gorgeous hot and can make her soar to the skies.
I've read many short stories of mates and insta love and hot sexual scenes and although this short story had this for me it fell short, it felt like there wasn't a lot of story here it felt 2d not a 3D story it didn't connect with me as a person unlike many other short stories have.
The characters, well I want to say I hate them but I don't, I just particularly feel much for them at all, Tracy seemed like a confident bar tender when we first met her but as we read more we understood she confided a lot of secrets into a gargoyle to relieve herself of the confusing emotions.
Danton is a strong, silent powerful character who genuinely cares and shows so much compassion and empathy during this book despite his own challenges and I have to say I liked this character more I just feel it could have been deepened in the way he acted and scenes.
This story had a lot of potential but it didn't seem to go very far at all, it fell a little flat for me but didn't feel a total waste of time and hasn't made me write the author off just yet.
Rather disappointed in this one. I love gargoyle shifters so thought "what the heck". I should have realized that in 124 pages, insta-love was going to be a factor (which I absolutely hate). Unfortunately there were zero sparks between Tracy and Danton. Sure they had great sex but there was nothing else going on between them. Tracy talked the the gargoyle statue for months but when he comes alive, she has tons of questions but doesn't ask them. Things were repeated numerous times and with it only being 124 pages, this was completely unnecessary and a waste of space.
I purchased #6 in the series, Blaze which is longer. Hopefully these failings will not be as apparent.
This is another very good entry in this shifter series. I liked Danton and Tracy. I really enjoyed their chemistry and the element of sweetness that pervaded their romance. This is a quick read and I felt that sort of hindered this couple's story a bit. When you had to take into consideration Tracy's history, this short form just felt a bit off. Still I found this a fun and enjoyable read but I did feel like there was some untapped potential here.
Heat is "HOT" I loved this story. The characters were great. Love the sparks between them. Wink wink. I recommend this book and series to any looking rekindle their fantasies.
Tracy has been drawn to a particular gargoyle statue in the Goth club she works in. When her ex-boyfriend tries to hurt her near the statue it comes alive and protects her from him. She invites the stranger to her apartment to get to know him better. Danton is a gargoyle and can only spend a few hours in human form unless he bonds with his mate. Danton’s mate is Tracy and he watches over her for a while.
The chemistry between Danton and Tracy is scorching. They make a great pair. It takes Tracy a bit to get what Danton is telling her about where he comes from. It’s understandable considering. The sex scenes were steamy.
Gargoyle’s Embrace is the fifth book in the Undergrown Encounters series by Lisa Carlisle. While this book is part of a series, it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone novel. I found this book to be well written. The main and secondary characters were genuine and fascinating. At only 50 pages, it does not have the feel of a quick read with a clear beginning, middle and end. Overall, this was a great book. While I have not read the other books in the series, I will be picking them up shortly.
I do adore the idea of gargoyles (especially when they look like that!) Even though this is short, at just under 50 pages, it is probably when of the best I’ve read in a while. It’s not stuffed with useless secondary characters and focuses on the main ones with ease.
The spicy scenes are both needed for the plot line and written without being tawdry or salacious for the sake of it.
From a writer’s perspective, the whole relationship was oddly believable and the love, although springs up quickly, is rooted in a longer story thread that’s explained at the start.
The front cover is lovely, but I would have liked to see more gothic and gargoyles on there too – but that’s just me.
Overall I’d give Gargoyle’s Embrace 4 out of 5 stars – a rock hard paranormal romance with just enough erotica.
Gargoyle's Embrace was exactly what I needed that to fill that hankering for a sweet, hot PNR. Danton is quite the man or should I say gargoyle. Strong, silent, ever watching over to protect Tracy, little does she know she has a protector close by. This romance is sweet, with just the right combination steam and story to make this PNR fanatic smile. I do wish this story was a bit long because I really did enjoy it and it went by too fast. Gargoyles are quickly turning into my favorite kind of hero. This is a definite read for any PNR fan.
I received this book from JeepDiva for the express purposes of an honest review. The opinions and rating of this review are solely mine and in no way was I compensated.
Hot hot hot, is all I have to say about this quickie. Whew. I need a gargoyle statue! Gargoyle’s Embrace tells a hot short story of a statue having a secret. He is a protector of humans, and one human in particular peeks his interest. This is a well written and super sexy book. I wished it was longer, but it had just enough to be satisfying. I will be looking for other books by Lisa Carlisle for sure. Hopefully there are more sexy gargoyles to be found. Grab this book and be prepared to have a scorching quickie like you haven’t had before.

First, I love gargoyles and their history is fascinating – I mean their real-world history, not their fantasy history which is all over the place depending on which writer you read. I’ve been to Notre Dame (before the unfortunate fire) and have seen the gargoyles up close and personal – very impressive…!
Where to start with this book? To begin, it underwhelms. It was originally published in 2013 as “Gargoyle’s Embrace,” and is more of a short story than a novella. Writing the short story (or the novella, for that matter) is hugely different from writing a novel; too many writers do not appreciate the differences. I believe this story is a case in point. The plot is thin. The sex scenes are plebian. There is little to no character development. The two main characters have no chemistry although there are plenty of heavy-handed sex scenes to plow through. While the gargoyle is shown to be a protector of humans, the human he’s chosen to protect and love is lacking and goes through the range of her emotions from A to B. Blchh.
The gargoyle, Danton, has the hots for bartender Tracy. She’s been chatting him up in statue form for the two years she’s worked at club Vamps, never knowing he could become flesh and blood. Of all the reactions Tracy could have had when she discovered Danton could become a real, live, gorgeous (of course), Viking-like fellow, I had not expected her to be violent or screaming obscenities. He apparently found it endearing; I found it ridiculous. Then, suddenly, she does a 180-degree about-face, and her curiosity is piqued. Her libido, too.
There are a ton of discrepancies in this little novella, and I have to wonder three things: how well planned was this story before the writer started writing it? Second, was it edited? And third, was it proofread?
First is Danton’s age. It appears that in the beginning, on Kindle page 12, Dante was one of the ageless European gargoyles when he tells Tracy, “…I’ve been alive since before you were born,” implying that he was as old as gargoyles are expected to be. But on page 40, he reveals that he and his brothers were cursed by a witch thirteen years ago and that he is now 35 years old. Well…OK.
Next, is this curse he is under. It morphs as we get into the story. On page 20, Danton says, "I take on human form when someone needs my assistance.” On page 40, we discover that all three brothers were cursed at the same time and presumably share the same curse. On page 51, one of his brothers says they are enjoying “the usual bout of freedom with good food and a relaxing flight over the ocean.” They are admiring women in bikinis so presumably haven’t made the love match we’re told is necessary for them to become powerful enough to break out of their gargoyle shells. Since they enjoy periodic bouts of freedom, why hasn’t Danton, who pines for Tracy, pursued her in his human form? Why wait? On page 53, Danton thinks about how he and his brothers had masked themselves from time to time in their gargoyle magic to come out into the club to help take care of dangerous situations. So, again, why hasn’t he even made a gesture towards the woman he purportedly loves?
And…gotta wonder…where does Danton get the money to have sunflowers delivered to Tracy? Does he stash it in the convenient bag he keeps at club Vamps? Who knows?
There are careless errors in the book, for instance: “She ran her down the back of its head….” She probably ran her HAND down the back of its head. “…you don’t know what’s it’s doing to me.” That should be “…WHAT it’s doing to me,” without the apostrophe “s.” “…not when wanted him this badly.” Probably, “…not when SHE wanted him….” Since this book was initially published in 2013, there is no excuse for these errors. Looks like they have been here a long time. Proofreading, anyone…? AND... with today's word processors' tools like spell check and grammar check, it is difficult to make a lot of errors.
There is so much more that could have been done with this story. The characters could have been deepened. A reason for Danton’s reluctance to approach Tracy, especially since he’s been called to protect others at the club where she works, would be nice to know. Tracy’s character needed development. We’ve got a hot gargoyle professing love for his intended mate and she doesn’t have the personality or character to attract him…at least, as written.
This novella did not produce the chemistry that has to exist between reader and book. There has to be a reason to continue reading, beyond the sex scenes which you can read in any adult romance. The main characters need to be interesting and should have chemistry, too…beyond the sexual, I mean. Sex can be amazingly erotic, or it can be smut. A good writer can produce characters that propel themselves into each other’s lives where sex becomes a natural extension of their relationship, but not here. Even the gargoyle lore, which should be as believable as it is entertaining, is poorly constructed.
I rated this novella 2 stars. I came close to rating it 1 star, but as it stands, the story is loaded with undeveloped potential. I jumped into this Underground Encounters series at book 5, and I think I’ll leave it at that. This novella deserves a rewrite, but I’ll bet it never happens.
I have a hard time buying the entire series before I have read at least 1 book. I’m glad I didn’t purchase the series for this one. There is very little character development. This is a novella and took about an hour to read. If you are looking for a sweet paranormal romance then this book is for you! If you are looking for spice look elsewhere.
This is book five of the Underground Encounters series and the main characters are Tracy, a student at college during the week and a bartender at Vamps nightclub over the long weekend, and gargoyle Danton, who was cursed by a witch as well as his two brothers, and now protects humans from their statues in the club. Tracy had found herself talking to one particular gargoyle statue over the last few years, every time she was alone in the club, before the fire and afterwards. She has a younger brother with special needs and is studying to work with children like him but has also been affected by a bad break-up with her cheating ex-boyfriend, so hasn’t been in any sort of relationship since and is feeling a bit starved of a certain type of action. On one of her nights setting up for the next shift, she is all alone by the bar when her ex-boyfriend turns up, drunk again as usual, and tries to grab her and refuses to listen to her repeating that she isn’t interested in him anymore and they are over. When he gets even more physical, he has her backed up against the gargoyle statue, which suddenly seems to be changing colour and getting warm to the touch! Danton jumps out and grabs her ex-Brian and throws him across the room, then goes up and is about to stomp on his head when Tracy stops him, not wanting Brian’s death to be on her or Danton’s hands.
Danton meanwhile is completely naked and has his wings out fully, scaring Brian, and making Tracy believe she is seeing things! She must get him out of the club, before any of the kitchen staff come through and find him, giving him a towel and telling him to wait in her car. She can’t quite believe it when she drives him to her house and allows him to stay as he is a complete stranger, asking him questions and to explain about himself and what he is, to her. He tells her he has only twenty-four hours in his current state before he will turn back into his statue form, and they make the most of their time together. Danton has realised that she is his fated mate and whilst he doesn’t want to scare her away, she could be the key to breaking his curse and helping him to break his brothers as well. Whilst she feels completely safe with him and trusts him, unlike her ex or any other person, she isn’t ready to commit to a lifetime relationship after knowing him for just a few hours. Danton is disappointed, but knows it is a lot to take in and will have to return to the club and decide what to do for the future, stay in the club and be tortured seeing and hearing her every weekend, or leave and move somewhere else with his brothers, if she doesn’t want to be with him forever.
A great gargoyle shifter story, that is short, steamy and contains instalove with a tight deadline to be overcome. Have to see if it is too late for this fated pair or will the actions of another bring them back together, making her realise her true feelings and what she wants for the future. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout, and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Tucked back into the Warehouse district of Caterina Cove is a small night club called Vamps. They cater to a unique crowd. There are vampires, shapeshifters, humans, witches, gargoyles and who knows what else lurks amongst the patrons of Vamps. Tracy is a bartender at Vamps. She is a part-time student and part-time bartender. Tracy loves working at Vamps, there is live music and DJ’s. The décor is eclectic with gargoyle statues and a plaque as you enter that says “Abandon all hope ye who enter here” the supposed inscription at the entrance to Hell. Tracy has a habit of talking to the gargoyle statues. One is her favorite and to whom she tells all her secrets, wishes and dreams, often as she ‘pets’ the gargoyle. One night as Vamps is closing her violent Ex-boyfriend walks through the door and the restraining order to stay away and grabs her. Danton, one of the gargoyles comes to life and saves Tracy. This is the same gargoyle that has heard all her secrets. Danton knows he must get her away. He is a cursed gargoyle that can come to life for twenty-four hours to save humans. Tracy is shocked. He has fallen for Tracy and knows she is his mate. Can her convince her in a short twenty-four hours that they are destined for each other? Can the curse that he and his brother share be broken? Can Tracy trust another man? This is a page tuner, be warned you will not want to put it down. Another great story in the Underground Encounters series. Great characters, interesting story. I wish it was a little longer as I enjoy stories about Vamps. I can’t wait to go back to Vamps, again, this is my fifth trip and I love each story!
Heat is smokin' hot! I loved it! Be forewarned-you will NOT want to put this down once you start, so settle on in and join the fun!
Tracy is a bartender at a nightclub called Vamps. They cater to an eclectic crowd-witches, shapeshifters, vamps, humans-you name it. She loves working there-the live music, the crowds, and especially the gargoyles decorating the space! She's drawn to one in particular and she hasn't a clue why, but she tells it all her secrets. The special things that you tell no one. She often touches it as it gives her peace and serenity when she does.
One night her drunken ex shows up and begins to attack Tracy when she rebuffs his advances. Danton, one of the gargoyles, comes to life and reveals himself to Tracy and gets her to safety. This is the same one who she regularly talks to. Tracy is shocked and a little embarrassed knowing what she's revealed to him. Danton is a cursed gargoyle and only has twenty-four hours to remain among the living and then he must go back to stone form. Unless he convinces Tracy that she is his destined mate and can break the curse. Will she let another man in after being so badly hurt??
This story was crafted really well and I loved Tracy and Danton together! The story is interesting and intriguing! I am itching to read more as the gargoyles are fascinating! Even though this is book five in the Underground Encounters series, it can be read as a standalone. But with stories like this, I definitely want to read more!!
Title: HEAT Series: Underground Encounters #5 Release Date: #AlreadyReleased Author: Lisa Carlisle Reviewer: Ingrid Stephanie Jordan Serial: Standalone, No Cliffhanger Genre: #PRN #GargoyleShifters #5Stars🌟⭐🌟🌟🌟 •••••••••••••• 📍What a captivating read Ms. Lisa has written. I was enchanted by this Gargoyle's Romance. You have Adventure, Action Packed, Loyalty, Hate, Love, plus some Wickedness. Definitely a Must Read! ⚡Tracy is Human Working as a Bartender at a Goth Club named Vamps with the pink hair and tattoos, she fits right in, plus the tips are amazing. Since she started working there Tracy has had an affinity to the Gargoyle statue by her bar. Always talking to him about everything that happens in her life. One night everything becomes unreal, first a drunk tries to play with her hair, Second her ex comes in drunk talking crazy to her, next her gargoyle statue stands up. ⚡Danton is one of the Gargoyle Shifters around the Goth Club "Vamp", swarn to the world to protect humans but he is also protecting Tracy the pink haired girl that has always talked to him, touch him when he was a Stone Statue. 💥I have voluntarily read this book and my comments here are my own and honest.
I enjoyed another adventure at Vamps in this short read. Tracy tends bar at Vamps to pay her tuition. She's going to be a special needs teacher. Right now the pay is good. The atmosphere exciting but tiring. She's alone in the bar after closing talking to her friend in stone-yep she finds it easy to share what she could never tell a real person. The gargoyle is one of several lining the walls. Funny, it's the only one she talks to. Suddenly she isn't alone with her stony friend. Her violent ex is there and drunk as usual. When she tries to fight him off her stone guy changes and steps in to protect her. While wondering if she's been given something she surprises herself and protects him from discovery. Back at her apartment, the gorgeous guy explains and so much more. This is steamy with enjoyable characters in a difficult situation. She's sworn off men after her ex. But is Danton worth risking a chance with or will she let him return to stone? I loved this book from page one. A great addition to the series. I voluntarily reviewed this advanced reader copy and I have not been compensated in any way.
Setting: Boston Genre: Shifter Romance Tracy is a student working her way through college as a bartender at a goth club called Vamps. One night, after closing, her ex comes in, drunk & violent. Suddenly, a really hot guy materializes out of the stone gargoyle she’s been talking to for a couple of years, and kicks the ex’s ass. Danton has been living under a witch’s curse for 13 years, unable to become human except to help someone. He then has 24 hours of freedom. He hopes to convince Tracy that she is the ONE for him. The characters are pretty well written, but the plot could use some tightening up. There are a couple of inconsistencies, like Danton’s age. He tells her he’s in his late 30s, then later he said he knew the man who brought him from France “for a long time” and she wonders I’d it’s decades, maybe centuries. Maybe I’m just not clear on it. Another inconsistency was when he said he had not been back to Paris, yet mentioned that he was there for a few months while Vamp’s was being renovated after a fire. Confusing. On the plus side, if you’re wanting erotica, there are several well written sex scenes.
Gargoyle shifter stories are new for me, so there's a ton of common backstory that I'm not starting with for this kind of novel. However... guardians and shifters are not new, and that's essentially what we've got here. A fast read. Insta-attraction, insta-love more than insta-lust, imo. The nature of gargoyles and the history between the MCs before we even step into the story permits that sense.
There are sweet/tender moments in this novella. Which might be why I felt more frustrated at the finish... because the first 2/3rds of the story I felt were more natural and easy flowing, but things get clunkier in the last part of it where the HEA will land. IDK, I kind of feel like this could have been a full-length story if the author had been so inclined, but instead it feels very rushed after the set-up for the characters. These could be memorable characters if we had time to get to know them longer.
Fun for a quick PNR read, and if you happen to enjoy novellas/instalove stories.
I absolutely loved this book. Danton and Tracy are such a cute couple. This story is short but absolutely adorable. It keeps your interest from the first to the last page. I love reading stories about the club and can't wait to read more! A great addition to the series!
When Tracy (h), a bartender at the underground club Vamps, faces the dangers of her abusive ex-boyfriend Brian, she's saved by an unlikely hero—a gargoyle statue that comes to life. Danton (H), the handsome gargoyle shifter, has been watching over Tracy for years, bound by a curse that limits his human form to just twenty-four hours. As they spend a passionate and transformative day together, Danton reveals that only finding his true mate can break his curse. Despite the overwhelming intensity of their connection, Tracy struggles with her fear and doubts, fleeing from the possibility of an eternal bond. But when Brian reappears, threatening her safety once more, Danton returns to protect her, reigniting the connection between them and Tracy has to decide if she's ready to be bound to him, thereby breaking his curse. Hot and steamy gargoyle shifter romance, exploring love, supernatural intrigue, and connection.
Tracy has always talked to and felt close to the Gargoyle statue that has been by the bar for the longest It never ocurred to her that it actually heard everything she said about what was going on in her life. One night when her ex boyfriend came in the club after closing and tried to attack her, she noticed over his shoulder that a man came out of the statue a big tall handsome man she thought she must have been slipped a mickey, but she didn't feel drugged but the man was real and he kicked the crap out of her ex she had to prevent him from killing her ex. As unbelievable as it seems his name is Danton and he says he loves her and is about to rock Tracy's world. This is a sweet romantic short story. I received a copy as a gift from the author. I am providing an honest review without obligation.
Tracy is a bartender at Vamps. She likes to talk to a particular gargoyle statue that sits near the bar. She tells it everything that is bothering her while she gets the bar ready for customers. One night her abusive ex shows up and when he threatens her the gargoyle is suddenly real. He comes close to killing the man, but Tracy stops him. She ends up taking the gargoyle shifter home with her as it seems he needs a place to stay for the day.
Danton can't believe he has finally gotten the chance to meet his mate in his human form. He has been in love with her ever since she started working at the bar and has listened carefully to all she told him about her life. He only has 24 hours to try to convince her to bond with him and break the curse he is under. Will it be enough time?
I was given a free copy of this audiobook by the author and am voluntarily reviewing it.
I don’t know how she does it, but each new book in the Underground Encounters world gets even better than the previous 5 star must read! This 5th stand-alone, “HEAT” is with Tracy & her sexy gargoyle protector Danton & are my favorites so far, even tho all the books are a close tie for first place IMHO ;) ... Ms. Carlisle has an amazing way of breathing life into her well defined characters, with witty dialogues & totally unique, fresh new storylines :) Smoking hot romance with suspense kept me on the edge of my seat turning pages not wanting to stop! Even tho I always volunteer to read this author’s book, it is without any outside influences and I honestly love them & highly recommend any of these fantastic must reads to any and all adult fans of fiction :D
Im a shifter fan of all kinds, Im thinking that Gargoyles might be becoming one of my favorites. I think they are overlooked in the shifter world, im not sure why since they are made of stone so they are strong and big and normally very sexy looking. This was true for this book as well. Tracy and Danton are incredible characters and they sure do bring the heat to this story. You have amazing writing that will keep you up in the wee hours of the night just to see if Tracy and Danton and make this work between them. I could tell you about the book but I would rather you read it. Its short so it won't take long and you will not be disappointed! Im giving this book 5 <3's
I read the garbage advertised on Facebook so you don’t have to.
This 150 page novella was about as deep as Vera Valentine’s “Unhinged”, the one about the woman who has sex with her apartment door. The ex is just the usual sort of controlling alcoholic asshat who feels entitled to unlimited chances to ruin your life. She is a pink-haired bartended who confides in the gargoyle statue watching over the bar. The gargoyle is able to shift to a human-ish form (huge vikings don’t usually have wings) for 24 hours after answering any human’s call for help. They have pretty straightforward sex and say the magical oath that will break his curse and allow him to shift at will. This is fifth in a series but could stand alone.
