One of the foremost authorities on career guidance, Dr. Steven Berglas shows you how to find passion and renewed energy through your work . Most Americans today are frustrated that no matter how much emotional currency they invest in the work they are trying to do well, each day leaves them disappointed, depleted, and distressed. Dr. Berglas has spent more than 25 years studying this phenomenon while a faculty member at Harvard Medical School's Department of Psychiatry, and as an Adjunct Professor at USC's Marshall School of Business. He has devoted four decades to helping high-earning clients derive psychological rewards from work. Berglas' clients range from CEOs and other C-Level executives, to professional athletes, lawyers, politicians, and artists. In STAY HUNGRY & KICK BURNOUT IN THE BUTT , Berglas explores what causes people to suffer psychological burnout , and how to prevent it. Specifically, Berglas walks you through a program that enables you to identify passions and harness the energy (already within you) to fuel psychologically gratifying professional pursuits. Debunking common myths, Dr. Berglas knows there's no one-size-fits-all solution to any psychological problem, which is why he will help you identify your core passion and then offer clear, actionable advice on how to harness it to live a happier and more fulfilling life guided by purpose.
Stay Hungry and Kick Burnout in the Butt is written by Steven Berglas who is an authority on career guidance. Its goal is to present the causes and the preventative measures we should take to prevent psychological burnout. It is based on the Three-C Program (Calm & Control, Convert and Career planning). It was really interesting to see how the author helped some of his patients to find the causes of their burnout and the steps that they needed to take to find their passions. An interesting and complex book.
Really engaging, if not repetitive, book towards opening up yourself to personal and career success. It raises interesting points and profiles of such individuals as, Benjamin Franklin, in order to drive home methods and thought. Definitely worth a read, but now curious to see how it goes in practice. Success in that front will raise this to a 5 star review.
Finally, someone who addresses the problem of how to live a purposeful life without turning it into a bunch of platitudes. If you're tired of feel good psychology that amounts to sitting there thinking happy thoughts, this is the book for you.
I received this book as an advanced reader's copy and our patrons will most definitely appreciate a book like this because people everyday complain about how much they do not like their job or that they're exhausted from a hard days work and as Steven Berglas explains that it is always a 90% mental mindfulness that burdens someone of retracting their emotional energy that triggers the want and desire to get through the day rather than dread when their work day is over. This book teaches some important points that everyone tends to forget but shouldn't. This will be beneficial for our community which is why we are giving it 5 stars!
DNF--not for lack of interest. My library card bit off more than I could chew and this one was due back before I got to it. I'll return to it in the future.
