Cassandra Clare

She lived in France, England and Switzerland before she was ten years old.
Since her family moved around so much she found familiarity in books and went everywhere with a book under her arm. She spent her high school years in Los Angeles where she used to write stories to amuse her classmates, including an epic novel called “The Beautiful Cassandra” based on a Jane Austen short story of the same name (and which later inspired her current pen name).
After college, Cassie lived in Los Angeles and New York where she worked at various entertainment magazines and even some rather suspect tabloids where she reported on Brad and Angelina’s world travels and Britney Spears’ wardrobe malfunctions. She started working on her YA novel, City of Bones, in 2004, inspired by the urban landscape of Manhattan, her favourite city. She turned to writing fantasy fiction full time in 2006 and hopes never to have to write about Paris Hilton again.
Cassie’s first professional writing sale was a short story called “The Girl’s Guide to Defeating the Dark Lord” in a Baen anthology of humor fantasy. Cassie hates working at home alone because she always gets distracted by reality TV shows and the antics of her cats, so she usually sets out to write in local coffee shops and restaurants. She likes to work in the company of her friends, who see that she sticks to her deadlines.
City of Bones was her first novel. Sword Catcher is her most recent novel.

I LOVED THIS NOVELLA WITH ALL OF MY HEART. Compared to all the Shadowhunter novellas, I feel this one only comes second to The Fiery Trial. Not to lay the puns on too thick, but it truly was an exquisite reading experience.
Anna Lightwood has one of the most unique and intriguing storylines I've ever read in young adult fiction. As a genderqueer lesbian in the late eighteen hundreds/early ninteen hundreds, I loved watching her transformation from a woman who tailors her brothers clothes to her body in secret to someone who recognizes she does not have to be just "one thing" (in her words.) Anna is strong yet vulnerable and I'm confident she will become one of my all time favorite characters.
Anna and her love interest in this novella are SO ADORABLE. I was intoxicated by their chemistry and despite some obstacles revealed throughout the story, I'm extremely hopeful we see more of them together in The Last Hours.
This novella was amazing and I am so, so excited for more.

This gal is seriously rabid. Would a guy behaving like that be cute? Somehow, I doubt it.
A bit too melodramatic, even though some passages were positiely delicious.

“Foolish people say so many things. But we know who we are…”
Anna Lightwood deserves the entire galaxy and all the stars within it, please spread the word. Like, the child of Cecily and Gabriel is a true blessing to the Shadowhunter universe. And the end of this made me happier than any other Shadowhunter short story I’ve ever read. In short, this story is love letter to nonbinary people, and we get to follow Anna embracing being a genderfluid lesbian. Even though everyone knows that queer people existed all throughout history, this story highlights how it was harder to come out back in the 1900s. But seeing Anna live their best life was everything and it warmed my heart so very much. And, again, Cassie Clare is just being more and more inclusive and she impresses me so very much. And there is f/gq romance in this story, too! But the heart of this story is identity and being the person you are on the inside on the outside, too. Okay, I’m done gushing; this story we also get to see Anna and Matthew explore the London nightlife and meet a woman named Leopolda in a club and bring to ask a few questions. And soon, them and Brother Zachariah are trying to figure out what she's up to. And I think that we are soon going to get a lot more background story on Tessa, and I cannot wait for The Last Hours, friends. It is going to be so amazing, and now Anna is going to make me even more excited!

¡Adoré este relato! En Every Exquisite Thing nos encontramos con Anna Lightwood, la hija de Gabriel y Cecily. En medio del siglo XIX, Anna es una chica que adora arreglar y vestirse con los trajes de su hermano, salir por las calles de Londres y ver cómo otras chicas se quedan mirándola. Pero todo eso lo debe hacer a escondidas, pues no es solamente el rechazo de las personas del siglo XIX lo que teme, sino las propias leyes y miradas de los Cazadores de Sombras.
La historia de Anna es preciosa, sobre todo cuando se empieza a enamorar perdidamente de otra chica. Todo es tremendamente intenso y ambas lo viven al máximo, pero luego llega el momento de los corazones rotos. ¡Y Anna no se lo merece!
En este relato adoré ver cómo Anna va ganando poco a poco confianza en sí misma y, a pesar de vivir esa primera mala experiencia en el amor, se va a dar cuenta de que ella puede ser lo que quiera y querer a quien se le dé la gana. ¡Al diablo los que quieran juzgarla! ¡Y amé aún más lo hermosos que son Gabriel y Cecily como sus padres! Son lo mejor que una chica descubriéndose a sí misma en el siglo XIX podría desear.

5★ | I don't think I'll ever tire of this story or love young Anna as I do.
We do not get to see much of Anna Lightwood, in Chain of Gold, or even in other stories but in this story, Cassie made a really good start at creating Anna's Character, her personality, and the potential to further develop her.
Exactly. I just can't explain how much I like Anna. I loved how confident she was in what and who she liked, I liked that she was so open and expressive to her cousins and close family friends, I just ADORED how she imagined girls and asked them for a dance or had a chat with them. It was so lovely. The way she took her brother's clothes and fit them for herself. Just... 💜

Lastly, I wanted to share my love for Cecily and Gabriel as parents. How nice and caring they were! It was so admirable. Especially in the early 1900s, it was really great how they supported Anna and showed their love and respect for her choices.
Gifting her a beautiful suit along with that (legendary) red necklace! I really didn't like that Ariadne hurt Anna because she herself was not so confident about herself but I'm so, SOOO GLAD that both Cecily and Gabriel encouraged Anna to be herself and boosted her confidence. I really want to see more of Anna Lightwood

What Cecily says and does for her daughter is beautiful. Cecily wants Anna to be comfortable and confident with the person she is. She wants her to be herself and embrace it. Cecily shows her to be strong and to follow her heart regardless of what people says. The way she accepts her and reassures her that love cannot be wrong .

My heart is so full! I adored this story about Anna Lightwood! She is so devastatingly a Herondale, I love her.
The kids of my favorite English Shadowhunters are back with their witty banter and silly situations.
Additionally, Jem has been sent on a mission to the Shadow Market for information and we learn a little more about a certain warlock’s parentage. 😱
Cast Long Shadows and Every Exquisite Thing are two more stories setting the stage for the upcoming Last Hours series and I am so damn excited for it. I need more of these kids!

Reading about Anna and her choice of attire could possible be one of the best things that I’ve read. I adored her character so much just by reading one short novella!
Her relationship with her cousins and brothers was heartwarming and a favorite part for me. You can see in this novella how Matthew has started to change after the events of Cast Long Shadows. Jem seeking out Warlocks and trying to find ways to help Tessa, Will and the children proved how much he hasn't changed. He’s still the beloved Jem we all loved in the TID trilogy and being a Silent Brother hasn't taken anything away from him.

I really like this character, Anna Lightwood. I like that she's very independent and has a lot of self respect which makes her character that much better. I like that she basically looked at the society and said 'screw you-I'll be who i wanna be'. I can't wait to read more about her in the future.

I really enjoyed this small novella very much. The charcaters were excellent and the romance was so lovely and even as a small quick read, I shipped Anna and Ariadne so much!

I do appreciate the representation, I adore Anna and the whole tlh crew and OH MY GOD my children Cecily and Gabriel grew up to be such good parents I’m proud.

A short story with a very important message. I loved getting to know Anna Lightwood and the dynamics between all the children of the TID main charcters is so heartwarming. Lastly, Cecily and Gabriel are the best parents in the shadow world, the last scene had me crying you guys 🙈

So apparently I never reviewed this one? I have a ton to say, but I also have a ton to do today (including reading a few more of these stories to complete my reading challenge), so I'm going to keep this short.
(And slightly spoilery. You have been warned.)
I ADORE this short story. It BREAKS MY HEART, but the ending also gives me hope. Cecily and Gabriel are the BEST parents and I love them! ❤️
That scene in the end with Anna and Cecily made me cry, because my gosh it was the SWEETEST.

I really hope she comes to her senses before it's too late, because I know she won't be happy married to Charles. However Anna also deserves better because she is precious and amazing.
Anna had better get a happy ending and a nice sweet romance in The Last Hours or I will riot.

This was actually really good, and so heartbreaking, and Anna had BETTER get a happy ending in The Last Hours or I will be very very bitter. RTC.
So apparently I never reviewed this one? I have a ton to say, but I also have a ton to do today (including reading a few more of these stories to complete my reading challenge), so I'm going to keep this short.
(And slightly spoilery. You have been warned.)
I ADORE this short story. It BREAKS MY HEART, but the ending also gives me hope. Cecily and Gabriel are the BEST parents and I love them! ❤️
That scene in the end with Anna and Cecily made me cry, because my gosh it was the SWEETEST.

No, I’m not homophobic. My rating has nothing to do with Anna Lightwood being genderqueer. What irritates me the most though, is insta-love and all of its bullshit. I’m also pretty sure I’m the only person who doesn’t like this novella (seeing the overall rating is about 4.3 stars). I mean didn’t they meet like THRICE and already saying they want to spend the rest of their lives together??? That they LOVE each other??? I’m sorry but it’s not love it’s just a CRUSH. They met like THREE TIMES (or is it twice?) that’s the foundation of love we’re working with. Do Victorian age Shadowhunters have late puberty that she KNEW she loved somebody after THREE MEETINGS? Um no, sign me out. Thank God they she wasn’t so stupid to go along with it. I kind of like the ending with Cecily and Gabriel though. AND MY MAN GABRIEL WHERE THE FUCK WAS HE THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE COURSE OF THE NOVELLA BRING HIM IN.

I love anything shadowhunters! These novellas are quick but provide enough “fix” until the next book is released. This was a great one that follow Anna Lightwood and provides a lot of joy to see the acceptance and strength her parents give her, and also her growth into what she wants as a personal preference. It was a lovely story about a lovely character that has the courage to be different.

Se questa novella fosse stata dedicata solamente al personaggio di Anna sarebbe stata perfetta. Anna è un personaggio molto interessante e già da subito la Clare ci va giù pesante... il mio cuore si è spezzato 😢
In questa novella stona tantissimo la presenza di Jem.
Relegato alla ricerca di un'informazione passata, informazione che avrebbe potuto essere molto succulenta e che invece è trattata con estrema superficialità, Jem è solo una comparsa in tutta la storia, è un'ombra che a mio modo di vedere, ha rubato tempo al POV di Anna che invece brilla di originalità e forza come non mai!
