This books was quite useful to understand what to expect in a huge variety of National Parks and wildlife areas inside Britain. It explains the parks and what animals or birds are found there. Books is sorted by sections.

Although it's an oldie, I've got to think a lot of the advice is still great. Geography must stay relatively stable, even if people and their fads do not. Time enough to put it to the test next year on a trip! :)
