Having made a name for himself by taking the mantle in Pakistan's mountaineering community, Mustansar Hussain is widely recognized as one of the most well known personalities in Pakistan. Though the origin of his fame is usually considered to be his established and decorated career as a writer, Tarar can also be recognized as the foremost endorser for tourism projects in Northern Areas of Pakistan, having exorbitantly increased the array of tourist exposure to the areas by becoming both a mountaineer and an adventure author who uses these locations as backdrops for his storylines.
Mustansar Hussain's literary proficiency as an author often overshadows the fact that he has been an active mountaineer for a very extensive period of time. Having embarked upon several painstaking and challenging tasks such as the ascension of K-2 and the surpassing of the treacherous "Chitti Buoi" Glacier among others. More significantly, both of Mustansar Hussain's professions often intertwine and relate, since he uses his experiences on his expeditions as travelogues. Though some of his publications have met lukewarm reactions due to supposed exaggeration, he reflects on this predicament with the notion that "words or even pictures cannot successfully express the beauty and splendour of nature in it's true spirit."
Tarar's first book Nikley Teri Talash Main, a travelogue of Europe, was published in 1971. He has so far over forty titles to his credit which include many genres of literature; travelogues, novels, short stories and collection of his newspaper columns and television dramas. He has been one of the best-seller fiction writer of Pakistan.
Mustansar was born in 'Jokalian' a small town in Punjab, Pakistan in March 1939. He spent his early childhood in the village and moved to culturally rich Lahore, witnessed the independence of Pakistan in 1947 and the events that took place at Lahore. His father Rehmat Khan Tarar opened a small seed store there. Mr Tarar got his schooling from Rang Mehal Mission High School and Muslim Model High School, Lahore. He then got admission in Government College Lahore , a college that owns the credit to polish several intellectuals of Pakistan. In 1950's, he went to London for higher studies. In 1957 he attended the World Youth Festival in Moscow and wrote a book named 'Fakhta' (Dove) on that experience. In 1971 his first travelogue Nikley Teri Talaash Main was published. It led to new trend in Urdu literature. He also became a television actor and from 1988 was for many years a host of PTV's live morning transmission Subuh Bakhair (Good Morning). His unconventional and down to earth style of comparing earned him great popularity. He called himself the 'Cha Cha Jee' of all Pakistani children and soon became known by this title.

Prime Minister's award for the Best Novelist for "Rakh".
Life time achievement award of Almi Farogh-e-Urdu Adab, Doha (Qatar).
Gold Medal bestowed by Moscow State University for literary achievements.

Mustansar Hussain Tarar has this talent of mesmerizing his readers with his beautiful words. He describes the landscape in such a way which can make your heart skip a beat.

ایک اور سفر تمام ہوا اور ایک اور سفر میں ہم بذریعۂ کتاب تارڑ صاحب اور انکے ساتھیوں کے ہم رکاب رہے۔ یہ سفر تھا کنکورڈیا تک کا اور اس میں اسلام آباد سے، سکردو، وہاں سے تھنگل، پھر کوروفون، پائیو، بالتورو گلیشئر، اردوکس، گورے ٹو اور بلآخر کنکورڈیا تک کی منازل طے کی گئیں۔
ہر بار کی طرح 429 صفحات کی کتاب پڑھتے پڑھتے ہم تارڑ صاحب کے مہم کے ساتھیوں سے مانوس ہو گیے۔ مہم کے ساتھی تو ایک طرف ہم انکے کُک، غلام محمد کو بھی کتاب مکمل کرنے کے بعد مِس کر رہے ہیں۔
تارڑ صاحب کا سفرنامہ جغرافیائی معلومات کا ایک بے جان، بے روح مجموعہ نہیں ہوتا، اس میں مناظر دھڑکتے، سانس لیتے محسوس ہوتے ہی، ان میں پہاڑ ،پہاڑ نہیں رہتے بلکہ جیتے جاگتے کردار بن جاتے ہی، پر شکوہ، بارعب اور حاوی ہونے والے۔ آپ کیمپوں میں گزاری ہوئی راتوں کا طلسم محسوس کرتے ہیں، ، غلام محمد کے کچن ٹینٹ کی حدت آپ تک پہنچتی ہے، ساتھیوں کے چھوڑے جانے والے شگوفے آپکو ہنسنے پر مجبور کر دیتے ہیں، آپ پر گشابرم، کے ٹو، براڈ پیک اور چوغو لیز ا کی دہشت طاری ہو جاتی ہے، آپ برالڈو کے منہ زور پانیوں سے ڈرتے ہیں، اور بالتورو میں بکھری دراڈوں سے سہم سہم جاتے ہیں۔ تو! یہ سب آپ محسوس کرتے ہیں۔
آپ کتاب بند کرتے ہیں تو آپکو حقیقی معنوں میں محسوس ہوتا ہے کہ سفر تھوڑی دیر کے لیے رک گیا ہے، اور دوبارہ تب جاری ہو گا جب آپ دوبارہ کتاب کھولیں گے، جیسے تارڑ صاحب اور انکے من چلے— بقول انکے "برچھے قسم کے مرد حضرات"—آپکے منتظر ہوں۔
اس بار مہم کے ڈاکٹر، ڈاکٹر عمر کی موجودگی بہت رونق افزا لگی۔ تارڑ صاحب کی ٹو کہانی ٹیم نے مہم کے لیے "ضرورتِ ڈاکٹر" کا اشتہار دیا تھا جسکے نتیجے میں ڈاکٹر عمر سب کے رفیق بنے اور تارڑ صاحب کے بے تکلف دوست بھی بن گئے۔
بہت پر لطف تجربہ رہا۔ آپ بھی ضرور پڑھیں۔

Another Travelouge by Mustanser Hussain Tarrar in which he expresses the story of his journey with his team of Kankordia and K2(Shah Gori), In this book, he told how did they start their journey, what difficulties they faced, what obstacles they saw during journey.
Most interesting part in this book was that in which they were climbing on the mountains and Author explains the beauty of different mountains of north region.
Although he adds fantasy in his travelouges that I hate some time and I experienced same thing in this book. so overall it was a good book and readers will enjoy it.

The way Tarar sahab has written and told this safarnama is just wow! I enjoyed the team's conversations and the light humors Tarar sahab used. It was amusing to the mind.
After reading this, I desperately wanna see those places. This book also has some messages for the government and people of the country.
I don't agree with a few things mentioned in the book but overall, it was worth the read. Amazing storytelling skills Tarar sahab possesses.
It took my a few months to read this book but it was a nice experience.

ایک روح کی گہرائی میں اتر جانے والی کتاب۔ ایک خانہ بدوش صفت مصنف کا ایسا اظہار جو آپکو حقیقت میں ان سب جگہوں، پہاڑوں، پربتوں، پانیوں، برفوں اور دشوارگزار اور حسین ترین راستوں پر اپنے ساتھ لئے پھرتا ہے، آپ کو یقین کی حد تک یہ احساس دلاتا ہے کہ آپ نے بھی ان حسین وادیوں کا سفر کیا ہے اور آپ نے بھی شاہ گوری کو آنکھ بھر کر دیکھا ہے ، اٌسے دل میں اترا ہے۔۔۔

Best safarnama about the north of pakistan. The words mesmerized you that you felt like you are also the part of the journey,travelling through the lush green fields among the apricot blossoms trekking towards concordia( شاہگوری).highly recommended if you are planning a trip towards northern areas of pakistan.
