Pamela Humphrey was inspired to write after researching her genealogy. Intending to create a booklet for her mom and immediate family, she set about gathering stories and pictures of the Ramirez family. She ended up writing her first book, Researching Ramirez: On the Trail of the Jesus Ramirez Family, a family history of her great great grandfather’s family. During that research, she found a christening record that ignited her imagination. Using the documentation she’d found as a backbone for the story, she imagined what life was like for her ancestors and wrote The Blue Rebozo, a fictional account of her great grand aunt’s life.

On a road trip, when driving through the Texas Hill Country, the landscape sparked the idea for her latest book. Weaving mystery, genealogy, and romance, she wrote Finding Claire. She is currently writing the next book in the Hill Country Secrets series.

She is a stay-at-home, homeschooling mom who enjoys many creative outlets: sewing, paper-crafting, jewelry-making, practicing her bass guitar, reading, and conversing with imaginary characters (what most call writing). She lives in San Antonio, Texas, with her husband, sons, black cats, and leopard gecko.

Finding Kate is the second book in the Hill Country Secrets series, the first book in this series is Finding Claire and you can find my review HERE. This is a series that must be read in order! Finding Kate picks up right where the first one leaves off. Kate and Alex have put the bad behind them, Kate is ready to make the move from Colorado to Texas and they are headed back to pack up Kate’s apartment. Kate has had a lot of unexpected changes in her life as of late, and she is now discovering a whole new side to who she is…and she is ready to get settled down to say the least. But man oh man, Kate just can’t have anything simple it seems. Headed back from Colorado Kate and Alex seem to run into some more trouble.

I really enjoyed Finding Claire, it kept me guessing and on my toes. Finding Kate was no different! Just as we thought our MCs were going to be able to take a break and explore their new lives as well as their relationship, they are thrown into peril again. I loved the way to story unfolded this time around. Between kidnappings, family drama, and the romance, I wasn’t given the opportunity to slow down while reading! There might have been parallels to the first book but the way it was plotted made it come together wonderfully. One of my favorite parts was that we got to learn more about Kate’s biological family tree. The ancestry element was able to be played up more in this book and it added an interesting layer into the mix. Not only that but we got to experience more in the relationships between Kate and Alex, I just love these two together!!!

One of the things that surprised me most about this book was that, even though it was the second book in the series, it didn’t feel like it. Humphrey did a fantastic job bringing new plot points to us and shaping them oh so well. Too many times the second book in the series falls flat…Finding Kate did no such thing! I am coming to expect books that will bring the elements of suspense, mystery, and romance when it comes to Humphrey’s books. I will be on the lookout from more from her in the future!

Overall Rating: 4/5 Stars!

I was not a fan of this book. When I picked up Finding Claire I did not realize this was a trilogy. I really enjoyed the first book. I thought long and hard if I wanted to move to the next book and decided to give it a try. This book was little mind numbing for me. I could not take all the crying that Kate did. She was so strong in the first book and I understand having moments where you need to process but it was like every few pages she was crying again. I had to take a few breaks in-between reading this book just so I could get through it. Alex was so patient and a good man so in the end when he finally got mad and left I was like finally. The entire ending I was thinking get over yourself Kate and get some therapy. I felt this book was just depressing after I read the last page. I understand how everything Scott did ruined so many people's lives and I felt terrible for Scooter. I am going to try to read book 3 and I hope it is better so I can have a conclusion to this story.

This book immediately follows Finding Claire. Alex and Kate are still trying to figure out their feelings for each other after being thrust into a few intense days together. Kate decides to move from Denver to Schatzenburg, Texas, to start fresh after finding out the truth about her past and her family. Her story is out and known in the small town, and just when Kate thinks she is free from family secrets, another person from her past comes to haunt her. Amidst all this, she is trying to open up to Alex, yet finds more past experiences messing with her heart.

This book had a slow start, but the further I got into it, the more I wanted to know what was happening. I recommend this book for lovers of suspense romance.

Hill Country Secrets:
I chain read these three stories and couldn't put any of them down until I was finished. It helps to read Just A Friend before reading Finding Kate, but it's not necessary.

The Wrong Path, #0 - I enjoyed this short story. It was well written, shocking and funny. The characters were just introductions so it would take a longer story to know more about them. The author did do a good job of describing them and the events as they unfolded. Perfect for a coffee break or a few minutes relaxation. 5*

Finding Claire #1 - Mesmerizing! Heartbreaking! I dislike stories about kidnappings, but this one was written in a way that was beautiful and heartbreaking. The kidnapping was just a foundation for a wonderful story. This book is a fast paced, well written suspense with realistic characters and dialogue and an interesting plot. This is the first story I've read by this author and I'm looking forward to reading Finding Kate. Library. 5*

Finding Kate #2 - Heartwarming. Finding Kate picks up where Finding Claire stops. I really recommend reading FC first. Another well written, suspense-filled story with believable characters, realistic dialogue and a twisting plot. This story is a fast paced, action packed thriller. I contacted the author to review her books. 5*

Just A Friend (#1.5?) - What can you say? This story started great and then, the truth appeared. A well written, but quickly read short story about young love and life; it brings strong emotions out in the reader. I read Finding Kate next and discovered this story is part of Finding Kate and then, I understood the abrupt ending of JAF. 5*

Finding Treasure #3 - Heartwarming and full of happy surprises. This has been an interesting series to read. FT is easy to get immersed into and the bits of Texas history seen through an early Texian's eyes add to the richness of the story. There's more than one mystery going on, both past and present, and the story lines are well thought out and interesting. The characters keep the reader interested in them and their stories; and it's great when an author actually knows Texas and can make it a character on its own. As with Ms. Humphrey's other books, this one is rich in multiple stories while sharing the past, which brings in the writer's love of genealogy. Other than lower case Internet, the book is well edited. 5*

The Chase #4 - I wish I could have read The Chase side-by-side with Finding Treasure. I had read eight percent before I had gotten FT and started it; so it was interesting to see the parts mesh. The mesh didn't last long and The Chase took off on its own two feet running. The story is interesting, along with the characters. I did find Marissa a little too extreme; after what she had gone through with Paul, it seems her personality was altered too much into irrational behavior. But she has good taste in reading material. Interesting romance with a very good, suspenseful story line and vivid descriptions keep the reader immersed to the last page. 5*
Hill Country Secrets end.

The Blue Reboso - Another heartwarming, interesting story using an ancestor from the author's own family as the main character. There are two actually, the Reboso plays a important part in the story. Well written and interesting in the telling of time history and the perils and struggles faced by people then. The characters are developed enough to be interesting and you root for them. The storyline is well developed and I feel I'm there with the family as the story unfolds. A job well done with blending fact and fiction. I love that it is set in Texas, is accurate and is told by an Hispanic. It is always interesting to read how all people have to deal with life. This is an author I enjoy, having read several of her stories, and I always look forward to reading more of her entertaining work. 5*

The twists in this book kept me guessing. I felt for Alex, because of his past, it made it more heart felt when it came to keeping Kate safe. You always have this sense that whoever was after Kate they were too close. The sense of invasion the author creates amps up your pulse. I love endings you don't see coming. I loved the closeness of the relationships in this book, but I do have to say it also showed me when the people who are suppose to love us, and take care us don't it makes for real brokenness. It does also make you realize that sometimes people aren't entirely bad, they are a product of their environment. A very enjoyable read.

A great read! I enjoyed the turn of words, the author writes in a way that everything flows. The story is exciting and has twists and turns (without giving away the plot - I would say that this is a deeper look at the events that have unfolded so far and is a stand alone book or can be read after the first book in the series). There is both the subtle understanding of relationships with the drama between people, as well as the larger dramatic backdroop of the adventure and the build up of the plot... an enjoyable and exciting read!

The second book was a repeat of the first with so many characters by now that it was impossible to keep everybody straight. The format was unfortunately identical. The writing style that worked in the first one became annoying to me in the second one. Tried the teaser chapter of the next one and couldn’t get three pages in. I’m finished with the series and most likely the author, which makes me sad because there’s so much potential. Maybe a better editor or more disciplined plotting would help.

An easy read that gets you hooked from pqge 1

The reason I gave this a four star rating is due to the predictability of the book. Don't get me wrong...it is a good conclusion to Finding Claire. Sometimes you need a book that is not too heavy and ends with..."Happily ever after"

I can't put this series down. I read finding Claire then Finding Kate and now The Wrong Path. I am waiting to buy Finding Treasure until I finish The Wrong Path. I love this series. It's been a while since I binge read a whole series. I love that there is no swearing and that the books stick to the story line very well. Can't wait to read the next book.

I like this mystery but I have a continuing problem it jumping back & forth between the story of after Kate is kidnapped & letters written between B & M. It is definitely a big mystery that gets concluded at the end. Now on to #3 to really complete the series. I received a free copy from the author. This is my voluntary opinion.

Tangled Relativity

Maybe relations would be a better word, but when it comes to Kate's family, it's too explosive to be anything but relativity.
As usual, I cried over this book. Humphrey is a brilliant writer. Makes me want to go buy all of her books, which I can't afford to do.

I found the mixing of current action and old letters to be a bit disjointed, but it adds to the story in the long run.

Other than the main character crying every other sentence, it was a good book, a different story line.

Finding Kate picks right up where Finding Claire ended. This book also provides more twists, turns and new characters.

I was hoping to find out more about Claire and Travis' relationship after Claire's return. This was not delved into but even without this, the book was definitely a page turner. I'm so glad I purchased this immediately so I could continue with the story.

I highly recommend reading this book after Finding Claire.

This is the 2nd book in the Hill Country Secrets series, although they are stand alone I would advise that you read book 1 first, as there are numerous recurring characters in the 2nd book and having read Finding Claire first does help alot. Wow what a journey. Life can sure throw some curveballs. Romance, mystery, crime all in one. Onto Finding Treasure book 3 in the series.
