Willow Tree

Rate this book
Unsure of everything, Lily Dalton is quite literally stumbling through life. She wants to go back to a time when life was easy and when she didn’t have to work at every smile.

She dreams of becoming an artist, but her shyness and lack of confidence is holding her back, something that frustrates her every day. There’s only one thing keeping her going – the promise she made to her sister.

While in her favourite art shop, she meets Dylan. He’s the complete opposite to her – confident, charming, funny, gorgeous and with a passion for guitars. They bond over creativity and Dylan helps her realise she’s the only person who can make her dreams a reality.

When Lily finds a letter from her sister Willow with a life project she has to complete, Dylan is there to make sure she follows it through, and with each step into the unknown, Lily discovers who she really is and what she wants from life.

But everything comes at a cost, and what if the cost of chasing her dream is leaving the person she loves behind? What happens when life is pulling you in two different directions and you’re not sure which path to take? And how do you successfully ride the tsunami of feelings that growing up and falling in love brings when you feel less than ready for it?

KA Hobbs lives with her husband in Essex. When she isn’t lost in a book or creating one, she loves to cook, swim, colour and shop. Her happiest times are always when she is surrounded by family and friends or watching Cinderella which some might say she is a little obsessed with. She is a little obsessed with the Tudors and would love to go back to that period in time.

One day, while watching TV, a scene came to her, completely out of the blue. She could see the scene unfolding, could picture the characters so clearly. She couldn't get to her laptop quick enough and spent hours writing not only that scene, but lots of others too.

She will happily admit to being grumpy when she doesn’t get to write, she loves her characters and spending time listening to what they have to say.

Written from the heart, this book grabbed me and wouldn't let me go from the second I started to read.
I fell in love with Lily and her growing relationship with Dylan. I actually found I was a little jealous of what they had and how the made each other complete. It's what fairy tales are made of but also brings home the stark reality of grief, especially from losing a close loved one.
The way lily lost her sister was heartbreaking but watching her come to terms with it in the most amazing of ways with the help of the ever present Dylan was a delight to read.
This book had me in tears, both in sadness as well as with laughter. An easy read (apart from the heart wrenching storyline of grief and pain) it is aimed at younger readers but I still found I couldn't put it down once I had begun lily's journey.
