The Sea Devil by Eliza Knight is book Three in the "Pirates of Britannia: Lords of the Sea" Series. This is the story of Thornley "Thor" MacLeod and Alesia Baird.
This can be a standalone book I felt.
Thor is a Captain of a ship along with being part of the Devils of the Deep group. Also Thor is out to get revenge on Santiago Fernandez, leader of Los Demonios de Mar group who tortured him. Thor thinks he found a way when he learns that Santiago is looking for a long lost daughter that he has.
Alesia grew up on the coast of Scotland with a whore of a mother. Alesia planned on never being that but she did turn to stealing which she has turned out to be very good at...so good there is a price on her head. Now with the noose in her view, she knows she needs to escape from here. When she sets in motion a way to escape the death trap via pretending to be who Thor is looking for. Once away from her home she plans on leaving Thor and this false identity but fate is stepping in and she may have to change her plans.
This was another exciting story from this author! Loved it!

So much YES
The first book in this series had me falling in love with the characters and enjoying the adventures but the second book left me feeling a little meh so I wasn't sure where I would land on this one.

Let me tell ya, Thor is just as swoon worthy as Shaw and I actually liked Alesia's wharf rat character even more than patriotic Jane. Alesia grew up an orphan, running from the authorities and stealing what she needs to survive. She stinks, dresses like a man, curses like a sailor, and fights dirty (girl bites him when he tosses her over his shoulder). When her path crosses Thor's, she punches him in the bollocks, calls him names that make his swabs pale, and threatens to make him walk his own plank naked. Their banter is fun & amusing and he even tosses her overboard once, but their romance is as heated as their verbal sparing *fanning self*. Oh, and she's NOT a virgin, so THANK YOU for that. In this story, as well as the first, consent was well established before the sex and I am, again, very appreciative. Their romance, although still somewhat rushed, felt more established than in the second book and I thought their sex scenes were pretty hot.

There was less "battle" action but the general action was back for this book. Thor wants revenge on another pirate for killing his mother and his last attempt ended with him being captured and tortured by the very man he had hoped to kill. This time when he goes against his enemy he has a secret weapon and I kind of loved the scene at the end when Alesia finally sees her father for the first time.

I have no idea how historically accurate these books are, but I don't even care. If you know that something is way off base, don't even bother telling me because I will legit pull a nope, can't hear you moment. Although the message passing to the Spanish pirates seemed less like genuine plot and more like an opportunity to introduce a character that we will likely see as a lead in another book, it was such a minor part that I'll let it slide. When they mention following "The Code" and being honorable pirates I did giggle a little, because... come on.. but I have really enjoyed reading these and plan to continue.

This was just pure fun and if you need a break from holiday chaos I highly recommend you spend some time with Savage and his honor bound pirates.

Thor and Alesia

The saga continues... this time
Thor takes the stage as hero. This magnificent Viking of a man had a tragic back story that tugged at the heartstrings. He meets his match in an opportunistic wharf fighter.

Alesia at times appeared to be too insightful for her supposed background. As a person whose education was zero and experience in life was subsistence at best, she somehow manages to attract Thor on the most basic of levels. To each his own, but my imagination conjured a foul mouthed 20 year old who had never bathed with a rats' nest of hair. Yet, Thor was attracted to her. Beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder.

Olfactory considerations aside, Alesia impressed me with her scrappiness. She was a survivor. Together they make a formidable team. The tenderness and toughness they each possessed meshed well.

I eagerly look forward to the next installment of the ongoing saga of The Pirates of Britannia.

The Sea Devil is the third book in the Pirates of Britannia: Lords of the Sea series by Eliza Knight. Although part of a series it can easily be read as a stand-alone story.

Thor is Captain of the Sea Devil and despite leading a full, enjoyable life as a pirate there has always been one thing on his mind...getting revenge on Santiago, the man who murdered his mother and who later captured and tortured him before he was able to escape. When he learns that Santiago is searching for his bastard son or daughter Thor finally finds his way to get the ultimate revenge. He will find them, take him/her to his father, claim the reward and then kill them in front of Santiago's eyes before killing him. The perfect revenge.

Alesia Baird is a woman in her twenties. Born to a whore who died young, Alesia has had to fend for herself and has done so by learning to steal and to fight. She's got herself into trouble now and if she is caught she will be hung. She has to get out of town and do it quickly. When she overhears that Thor is searching for somebody her age, one with a whore for a mother, and no legitimate father she decides she will pretend to be that person. Of course, she doesn't realise what he intends to do with Santiago's child, she just sees the perfect escape from the authorities.

She convinces Thor that she is Santiago's daughter, and on closer inspection, Thor sees that she does look like him, so is happy to carry on with his plan to take her to her father. The problem is that he is instantly attracted to her. If she was a lad he could have just thrown her in the brig and be done with her until he met up with Santiago and could carry out his plans. But she's not a lad, she's a feisty, beautiful, strong warrior of a woman. It's not difficult for him to fall for her. It's just as easy for her to fall for him. He and his crew give her a sense of protection and of belonging that she has never felt before. She worries about what will happen when they reach Santiago, fully expecting him to say that she isn't his. But she'll cross that bridge when they get to it.

Can Thor and Alesia have a future together? If he changes his plans on killing her how will he get his revenge on her father? How will she feel knowing that the man she is falling for is planning to give her over for the reward only to follow through and kill him? Will she find out his true plan of killing her? It seems that there can't be a happy ending for our couple, or could there?

I thoroughly enjoyed this story not only because the characters were so likeable, and absolutely hysterically funny sometimes with their interactions, but the fact that they are obviously soulmates was beautiful. You just knew from the minute they lay eyes on each other that there is no way Thor could see harm come to Alesia. But at the same time, you have to wonder how on Earth he can get his thirst for vengeance quenched if he can't follow through with his plan. The romance between Thor and Alesia was beautifully written, both of them have so much baggage to deal with, and yet through their bonding, and some very passionate moments they each are a salve to the other's pains. The way that the book concluded was believable and I loved that the couple managed to have their happy ending. We meet up with the other pirates who have had their stories told in the previous books, and it's obvious that their stories are going to be golden. I have to go back and read them which I am sure you will want to do too after you have read Thor's story.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers' copy of this book.

Publisher’s Description:

A daring brotherhood, where honor among thieves reigns supreme, and crushing their enemies is a thrilling pastime. These are the Pirates of Britannia.

Thornley “Thor” MacLeod, captain of The Sea Devil and prominent member of the Devils of the Deep is out for one thing and one thing only—revenge against Santiago Fernandez, leader of Los Demonios de Mar. Tormented by the demons of his past, he knows the only relief to his pain will be spilling the blood of his enemy. When he learns that Santiago seeks to find a child he abandoned nearly two decades before, Thor is determined to find the precious treasure first. Which means, Thor may have to sacrifice his honor in order to exact the perfect vengeance.

Orphaned at a young age, Alesia Baird has grown up along the harsh coasts of Scotland, bearing witness to many a nightmare. With the hangman’s noose dangling ever closer to her neck, she has to find a way to escape the only life she’s ever known. When she overhears a pirate mention he seeks the child of Santiago Fernandez, Alesia takes the leap, knowing this could be her only way out.

Alesia must keep up the ruse long enough to escape with her life, and perhaps a sack full of jewels. But when it comes time to jump ship, she finds her destiny may have led her in a different path. Will the hardened Highlander allow a lass into his heart—or is she destined to be alone forever?

My Thoughts:

This is a very enjoyable short read and the second one I have read in this swashbuckling series, Pirates of Britannia: Lords of the Sea.

Thor MacLeod became a pirate to avenge the atrocities of his past, particularly his mother’s death at the hands of Santiago Fernandez, leader of Los Demonios de Mar.

Tormented by his mother’s untimely death and his need for revenge after overhearing other pirates discussing a bastard child his enemy seeks he decides killing that child will be his ticket for revenge, after all “an Eye For an Eye”!

Alesia Bard has grown up alone from a very young age. She has survived by stealing what she needs. When she hears of the search for the bastard child of Fernandez, she decides that becoming that child will be just the ticket to get her out of the hot water and the certain hangman’s noose she is facing.

Will Thor be able to carry out his intentions once he meets Alesia or will this change the course of his revenge?

I gave this book 4.5 of 5.0 stars for storyline and character development and a sensual rating of 4.0 of 5.0 flames.

The heated intimacy between our hero and heroine is palpable.

I received a complimentary digital ARC of this title from the publicist to read for this blog tour. This in no way affected my opinion of this book wich I read and reviewed voluntarily.

A story of revenge with wonderful character development, played out among pirates with their own codes of honor. These are men who are as passionate in bedding women as fighting battles against their foes. The protagonists, dealing with harsh childhoods beat the odds to survive giving them second chances to find love. The emotion of revenge is a powerful force, yes, even to survive.

One evening while in port, Thor heard in a tavern, his biggest enemy, Santiago, would pay much gold for the man who brought him the child he sired some 20 years ago. Alesai also heard the tale, figuring she was the right age, desperate to escape the watchmen and the promise of a hangman’s noose, presented herself to Thor as Santiago’s daughter after she sneaked into his ship’s cabin to escape the guards. She hoped to obtain the gold, herself, and be on her way. Thor, a giant of a man, believes her story for she is the spitting image of her father.

Just one too many thieveries, nimble of foot, quick of mind, filthy from years of surviving on the streets and in allies, Alesai, known better as the wharf rat has finally met her match in Thor, but not before she shows her prowess by challenging him to a fight, playing dirty to win. Thor is more intrigued by this sprite rather than angry. He seems to understand her.

As far as Thor was concerned, his revenge for her father, Santiago Fernandez, eclipsed everything else. He lost his mother by his sword. However, his code of honor niggled his conscious. Could he turn over this young, spirited woman to her hateful father? Could he bed her and strut around telling Santiago what he’d done? Just to gain revenge, but hurt an innocent victim in the process?

This is a story of the loyalty, honor and tricks between pirate brethren of the sea, with hot, spicy scenes of passion and deep love between Thor and Alesai. I’ve enjoyed the series thus far, and look forward to the last book of the series, Sea Wolfe.

The Sea Devil by Eliza Knight
Pirates of Britannia #3

Thor MacLeod has been harboring anger and the desire for vengeance for decades so when an opportunity to wreak havoc on the man he hates most in the world arises…he grasps it. Little did he know that wharf wench Alesia Baird would be not only a means to an end but also the means to his salvation. With his pirate cohorts from previous (and future) books of the series to assist him when facing off with Santiago Fernandez all should go perfectly…even if his original plan has to be scrapped for another one.

This series is a fun way to escape. The brethren, a group of pirates, are a close-knit group that has created bonds tighter than many families ever achieve. One by one the men captaining ships are meeting their loves and marrying. In this one a strong female character that prefers pants to dresses and is capable of standing warrior-like by her chosen mate on the pirate ship he commands was a fun read that took me away to a fantasy world that might be fun to visit. The brethren in some ways resemble men in a motorcycle club romance but also have characteristics of Scottish highland warriors and pirates and…well…strong alpha men that make wonderful real and book boyfriends. And, that said, I look forward to reading whatever book comes next in this series.

Thank you to Barclay Publicity for the ARC – This is my honest review.

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
💋💋💋
This series never disappoints, it just gets better , like a good bottle of wine , the more you have , the more you want .
Thor is a big , gruff , Viking style pirate , trusted by his crew and his leaders alike.
Alisia is a street rat , daughter of a whore , fending for helself until she meets Thor and decides to impersonate the child of his greatest enemy , the killer of Thor’s mother , Hopeful that by doing so she can obtain the finders fee put up for this , Needless to say , Things don’t always go as planned .
The book is so involved in the lives of not just these two, but Con and Shaw and their wives from the previous books, and also Thor’s pirate brothers , it’s always great to see these characters again , there is such a friendship between them all that carries from book to book ,and gives you a sense of belonging to the crew yourself , The Brethren family.
Likewise more than anything Alisa wants to belong to this family , especially once she meets and develops friendship with the women .
Thor and Alissa are two people who brought out the mothering instinct in me , they needed to love and be loved , something they never got to experience with their own parents for long .
I adore this book , for that reason and more .

This book is the third in a series of stories about a group of pirates who call themselves the “Brethren“, and it is terrific! In this tale, a pirate captain, Thor, hears tidbits of gossip in a tavern one night. What he hears leads him to believe he may finally be able to have revenge against his arch enemy of many decades. All Thor needs to complete this is to find someone.
Meanwhile, in the same Edinburgh port, Alesia is a young woman, known as a “wharf rat”. She has nothing and survives by her wits, often stealing to eat, and usually running from the law.
Alesia needs to get out of Edinburgh quickly to escape “the noose” and she hears that Thor is looking for someone, although she doesn’t know why, just that he’s offering silver as a reward for locating that person. Alesia figures she can get that silver for herself, and escape capture. So she convinces him that she is his quarry. But that’s where the problems begin!
The story is filled with action, laughs, colorful characters and plenty of heat. I read the book in one sitting as I just couldn’t put it down. I highly recommend this book to readers of romance who enjoy action packed, swashbuckling sexy pirates with a HEA that leaves you with a smile- and looking forward to the next story!

“…what I found was that in order for me to be myself, I had to let go of who I wanted everyone else to believe I was.”

Captain Thor MacLeod has been waiting years to obtain his vengeance, and his chance to achieve it literally lands in his lap in the shape of a beautiful orphaned Scot by the name of Alesia Baird. Alesia has been fighting her own battles for as long as she can remember and is not easily intimidated by the pirate captain of The Sea Devil. She sees her chance to escape her poverty filled life and fill her pockets with coin. Both lives were drastically changed by the same man, and together they seize the opportunity to seek revenge. But once Thor and Alesia let go of the past, a love like no other heats up and thaws their frozen hearts. “I love ye my Thornly…there is no one I would rather go to battle with…fight beside…no one I would rather trust, love, cherish. I’ve been searching my whole life to belong. To matter and have purpose, and with ye, I have found it."

Never were two people more perfect for each other than Captain Thor and his Alesia. The pages ignite in this pirate romance, and I did not want it to end. I’m so in love with this series! Highly recommend!

THIS WAS SHORT, BUT ALSO TOO PREDICTABLE FOR MY LIKING. ONE OF THE REASONS I AVOID NOVELLAS BECAUSE IF THEIR CHARACTERS DONT MAKE AN IMPACT ON YOU, THEN THE STORY IS ALREADY SCREWED.

OUR HERO is the second-in-command to the first book's hero and no I did not read it. Out to avenge the death of his mother, the golden opportunity comes when his enemy Santiago advertises a bounty for those who can find his 20 year old bastard child. The plan was simple...get the bastard to Santiago and kill the son of a bitch. When a young lass pops into his cabin, awaiting him and declared herself the Spaniard's by-blow, he decides to seduce the chit and probably get her with child before sending her back to her father. Obviously these things never go as planned and he falls for her.

OUR HEROINE is a wharf rat whose mother was a whore and she has struggled to survive in the streets of Edinburgh a long time until she overhears that someone is looking for a bastard child her age. She sneaks aboard the Captain's ship and propositions him. Unlike a lady, she swears and is quite crass...can't say I was endeared by that quality even if she's a beauty.

OVERALL I didn't rate it highly because the connection between the H/h while was cute didnt feel real enough to me.

Captain Thor MacLeod is trolling the docks of Edinburgh looking for gossip to lead him to his next treasure. Thor is a pirate, part of the brethren that hunt the seas around Scotland and England. He has a good night. He has been entertained by watching a spirited lass give the watch the slip, and found that his life long enemy is searching for something. Our hero, an orphaned Highlander by birth, was taken in as a young lad by the Pirate king. Now he counts them all as his brothers.
Alesia Baird has survived the harsh reality of life as a warf rat since a small child. Her mother was a whore, and usually drunk or working the taverns of the docks. Our heroine is a fighter and a thief. Not for her the life of a whore. Unfortunately she has been too successful and there is now a price on her head. She needs to leave before she swings from the noose.
This is a very exciting , action packed adventure. Old enemies must be made to pay. Old friends will add their support. Strong characters that pull you into their lives from the first page to the last. A series that I'm totally addicted to.

I wish I'd read the previous two books (and plan to later); not because they're needed but because this book was such a delightful read that I can only imagine how much fun the other stories are.

Thor and Alesia each has a heartbreaking backstory but their individual strengths are astounding. I could feel his passion and the burn for vengeance as clearly as if Santiago had wronged me not the character. With Alesia, I felt that tender scared little girl who hides under the strong bravado that had kept her alive alone on the wharf for a decade and a half.

As the story progresses and the characters grow, I was hooked deeper and deeper until I was glued to my screen. I actually swatted at my husband for trying to take away my kindle so I'd go to sleep.....I couldn't because I had to know what was going to happen between Ms Baird, Captain Thor and the Diablo, Santiago Fernandez....

And the author didn't disappoint. The end of the story was as gripping and worthy as every other word in the book. I'm so glad I decided to read this book.

Loved this book! Thornley "Thor" MacLeod, Captain of The Sea Devil and prominent member of the Devils of the Deep is out for one thing and one thing only--revenge against Santiago Fernandez. Alesia Baird has grown up along the harsh coasts of Scotland, bearing witness to many a nightmare. With the hangman’s noose dangling ever closer to her neck, she has to find a way to escape the only life she’s ever known. I fell in love with Thor and Alesia from the beginning. Thor understands Alesia and sees through the toughness she presents and sees the hurt she feels inside. I loved the feisty spitfire that Alesia is and the big strong Highlander of Thor. There were also times I laughed out loud. I have read the first two book in the Pirates of Britannia books and loved them! This book is a stand alone but I am in love with this on as I am with the others. I couldn’t wait to read it and it did not disappoint!

This is book 3 of The Pirates of Britannia Series. Thor MacLeod is the Captain of The Sea Devil and also the second in command to Savage, the Prince of the Devils. He is out to seek revenge against the leader of Los Demonios de Mar, Santiago Fernandez. While seeking information about treasurers, information is revealed, which can be what he needs to bring his enemy to his knees.

Alesia Baird is a beautiful Wharf rat who basically has worn out her stay. Her life now depends upon moving far away. With no money and no one she can trust, an enormous possibility to obtain the coin she needs is dropped in her lap when she overhears a conversation. She is witty and can take care of herself. She formulates a plan.

When these two come together, face-to-face not only do fireworks fly but other things as well. This is a very entertaining story that will keep you belly laughing throughout.

Thor MacLeod captain of the Sea Devil is out, for one thing, one thing only-revenge against Santiago Fernandez, the leader of Los Demonios de Mar. Tormented in the past by Santiago. When Thor learns that Santiago is seeking out a child of his that he had abandoned nearly two decades before. Thos is determined to find the precious treasure first, which means, Thor may have to sacrifice his honor in order to exact the perfect vengeance. The Sea Devil is book 3 of the Pirates of Britannia: Lords of the Sea, a new series of Pirates of the Sea by Kathryn Le Veque and Eliza Knight. It will totally captivate you from the very beginning with it’s hilarious antics and dialogue between the main characters, the non stop action and a quite touching, yet unexpected, love story! You can’t help but fall in love with the characters since their multifaceted personalities reveal not only what they present as their public facade to their friends and acquaintances, but their own very personal vulnerabilities they try so hard to keep hidden from others. Book 3 is just as magnificent as the others in this series. If you love Hunky pirates, sassy women, humor, and nonstop action, you should really enjoy The Sea Devil as an exciting part of these epic pirate adventures on the High Seas.

Revenge Is Sweet

Thor, Captain of The Sea Devil would sit in the taverns just to listen to conversations to see if he could profit off their stories. Thor was also second in command to the Prince of the Devils. He hears that his arch enemy Santiago Fernandez was looking for his child and he was willing to pay a chest in gold.
Thor decides to hunt for this child, but he was going to get his revenge.
A young girl, Alesia Baird has lived on the streets and alleys for fifteen years. She knows how to evade the guards are hunting for here.
Thor and Alesia meet on his ship.
Events start to happen as Thor and his brethren family get together to plan.
This book is a great story and I think that any one would enjoy reading it.

Thor & Alesia

For the life of me I didn't think I would ever get to the end of this story...I don't want to ruin the story for anyone else, so I'll just say that Eliza Knight has always been one of my favorite authors; but I struggled through this book. I flew through the first two in the series, so must have been too much focus on the main character's that I could have done without. Still love your books, human nature being the way it is, I'm not going to "gel" on all of them, huh? Best wishes and until next time!

The Sea Devil (Pirates of Britannia: Lords of the Sea Book 2) Eliza Knight, Pirates of Britannia Wo

This book is filled with excitement, wether on the docks of Edinburgh, at the safety of a pirates hideway, or on the high Seas. Characters are well writen, comradery as well as the battle on high seas. The bluster of pirates and love between men who fight together and love between men and women. All will enjoy this exciting book.

I can’t say I disliked this book exactly, but the writing left a lot to be desired. There were multiple textual and grammatical errors which interrupted the rhythm of my reading. The plot was basic and the characters flat. The writing itself was very choppy with mostly telling rather than showing. I wasn’t invested and I could easily have DNFd but since it was short, I persevered. I didn’t hate this but neither would I recommend it.

I loved the quirky characters, both primary and secondary. The story flowed, the action (including some hits to the hero) was at times hilarious and never overly gory, even in battle scenes. The relationships of were familial and old friends were revisited. This author never fail to hold my attention and make me want the next book as soon as it is published.

Loved this one as well and another one I couldn't put down until I'd finished reading it! I've always enjoyed pirate stories:) Alesia is quite the little spitfire and Thor is quite the hunky pirate...together they embark on an adventure that includes laugh out loud moments, steamy scenes, wonderful characters and lots of action. Definitely a favourite book!!

A pirate seeking vengeance, a wharf rat taking a chance to get away from the gallows ... Fast-paced, amusing, and good character descriptions. What's not to like about adventure and romance on the high seas!

Best one yet!

Really enjoyed the Sea Devil. I guess it was so to spunky Alesia. Thor, God I love that name. Is a great hero and the chemistry is spot on. My favorite Pirate of Britannica books thus far.

Great love story

I enjoyed this book. It kept me wanting to read the next page. Thor and Aliesa fell in love after meeting each other.

Thor is still after revenge for the death of his mother. Overhearing that his Nemesis is trying to locate his bastard child, he vows to find the "bairn" and then find Santiago. There is just one very slight issue (pun intended) it'a a girl and she is not at all what he expected. Left on her own by the death of her mother, Alesia has raised herself on the Wharf. She is very strong, tough and not afraid of much. Sparks definitely fly when they finally come face to face and love is not too far behind. This is a fun read and a great addition to the series.

Good book!

What a wonderful story! I love that Alesia was strong in mind and body, but not too strong or stubborn to recognize when something good was happening to her. And Thor was man enough to recognize his love for her. Their story stayed true to who they are...pirates and brethren..!
