A young cop, in the closet and isolated, is transferred to the bikers squad, where he is betrayed by a higher ranking officer. When Brian Fuller finds himself in the middle of a field surrounded by a group of notorious outlaw bikers, he is in for the fight of his life.
He wakes up battered and bruised, only to discover that he is the hostage of the gang's leader, the infamous, brutally handsome Ice. At first, Brian doesn't understand why he is still alive. It turns out that the man who murdered Ice's family, is the same one who left Brian for dead... and Ice intends on trading Brian's life to get him as soon as Brian is strong enough. In the meantime, while Ice waits for Brian to heal, a raging sexual heat between them begins to fuel.
Melting Ice is a story of great passion, sizzling sex, and above all, a love story laced with the unexpected.
I write not only for my own pleasure, but for the pleasure of my readers. I can’t remember a time in my life when I haven’t written and told stories. When I’m not writing, I’m dreaming about writing, doing something wild and adventurous, or trying to make the world a better and more open minded place to live in. I adore beautiful men, and I know I’m not alone in this! Eroticism between consenting adults, in all its many forms is the icing on the cake of life!
24-year-old Brian Fuller became a detective just three years after graduation from the academy. His dad is police commissioner, so Brian is not too popular with the other cops. Like his dad, he works hard and is good at his job. Though much of the passion for his work comes from his father’s influence, it has also become a way for Brian to deny his sexuality and avoid conflict.
Brian’s job on the gang squad is to learn about Ice, the new leader of the notorious Diablos motorcycle gang. His superior officer, Grant Maloney, wants Ice badly and arranges a meeting with a gang member who agrees to be a snitch. Suddenly, Brian is left alone with a brutal gang while Maloney makes a dash for his car.
Brian is beaten, imprisoned, and left at the mercy of the leader called Ice. Who knew that he would be the most gorgeous man Brian ever laid eyes on? When Brian learns that his senior officer is corrupt in more ways than one, he must work with Ice to bring him down. But Ice is harboring secrets and Brian finds himself starting to fall in love with his captor, the kind of person he’s worked hard to keep behind bars.
Ice is openly gay, and though Brian may have fooled his father and his fellow officers, there was no hiding from Ice. I loved their developing relationship, sizzling sex, and the sweet ending.
This story was short, but oh-so-sexy and suspenseful. I gobbled it up in one sitting, a perfect way to spend a gloomy and rainy day.
This is a great story. It says in the blurb that 'it is a story of great passion, sizzling sex, and above all, a love story laced with the unexpected', and that is certainly true!
I loved the slight mystery around what was really going on. When the deeply closeted Brian was left to die by his police boss, no less!, I thought this couldn't possible end well. He ends up as a hostage to the very gay and very out gang leader, Ice himself. Nothing could have prepared Brian for the temptation he now faces, and when he finally does give in to the sexual attraction, the sex is, indeed sizzling.
That's when it gets really bad. Ice turns away from him as if nothing had happened, and I felt with Brian as he tries to manage his disappointment. Needless to say, he has to suffer more 'unexpected' obstacles before the story concludes.
Sadly this one just wasn't for me. It had everything I usually go for: undercover closeted cop betrayed by one of his own and handed over to a notorious biker gang where he falls for the gang leader? Sign. Me. Up!
But, no. This one fell way short of the mark. The characters were one-dimensional and uninteresting. There was insta-love that made no sense whatsoever. And the backstory was all about the "tell" and not about the "show." Things happened with little explanation (I'm talking a sentence or two, at most). The criminal procedure was totally, well, laughable and inaccurate. (A little research would help.) And the ending was ridiculous. Utterly ridiculous.
Brian is a 24 years old cop. Born in a cop family, he is always been destined to be a cop himself. And with a homophobic father, he has always denied his omosexuality: in fact he is virgin. Never been kissed by a man, never made sex with a men.
And then another corrupted cop, his superior, and gay in the closet, got freaked he can reveal his secret and sends him in the zone of a biker gang and to a certain dead. But Ice, the gang's leader, save him but also hold him in captivity in his... bedroom. Ice is openly gay and needs him to destroy the corrupted cop and maybe needs him also in some other ways.
Brian is a contradicted character: he looks strong, but he is emotionately fragile. He denies his desires, worse when these desires are for an outlaw like Ice. Ice is the "classical" bad boy outside, good boy inside: if only he was born in the right side of the city he would be the boy next door who help the grannies to cross the street.
A story setting for the most part in a bedroom, it is an enjoyable reading.
Ok people, this was my very first DJ Manly book. *gasp* I know, I know, where the heck have I been? The man has about 100 flippin’ books out or something very impressive like that. So, let me just say, I really don’t know, obviously hiding clueless under some poor rock somewhere. I plan on adding many more of his books to my TBR list now though, because I really enjoyed this one! A hot cop, a sexy biker gang leader, action, betrayal, and an unexpected twist at the end that leads to a wonderful HEA ending. What more could a girl ask for? Oh right, fantastic man sex. Yes, yes, there’s that too!
Melting Ice and Melting Ice 2 are so-so unrelated m/m romantic suspenses about deeply closeted law enforcement agents who "thaw" under the attention of the wrong guys. By the end of each book, I wanted to slap characters.
This was such a fun book! I'm absolutely thrilled by the characters and the whole wild biker side of it charmed me all the way through. It's 4.5 stars, and mostly because of the ending that was pretty rushed. Is it wrong to always wish for the bad side of things to prevail? Great read!
AWESOME! Read it in one day, and I am immediately going to book 2, I see there are 4 in the series and I hope they are all has great as number 1. The sex was erotic and love that the MCs were alpha males. I wish it would have been a little stretched with the ending, but overall great read.
Great start, and I loved the characters and the storytelling, but I dislike . I prefer the hard-won resolution of a seemingly insurmountable situation - being law enforcement and trying to love someone on the opposite side of the law.
Towards the end, things got a little too sappy and the love declarations kind of came out of nowhere. Still, I enjoyed the first 75%, and I'm off to Book 2.
I've just re-read this book from when I first did back in May of 2013 before I rated books on GR and just started reading into the M/M genre. At the time I believe I liked this book and would have given it a 5, but since re-reading it now, this was a 2.50 stars for me. Everything was so rushed and I felt the insta love just didnt work for me in this setting. When they regarded themselves as "LOVERS" I was like REALLY? When TF did that happen? It was more like Fuck Buddies in Lust.
And the dramatic
I found it unbelievable that Brian was a detective, at 24, who was regarded as an outstanding one to not being able to understand what was a risk of this whole investigation stink that Van/Ice had to do.
Van/Ice basically saved this read for me, Brian was a character in which I couldnt get into as he was also the one who at first um yea what a way to try and rush this story and ruin it and add in that dumb ass dramatic drama at the end. I would have taken it better after the whole truth came out if Brian was a regular civilian who didnt understand law enforcement dynamics and operations, but he wasnt!
Arrrgg maybe this review might not help anyone, but I just wanted to rant so sorry if my review confuses others -____- 1 star for the story plot and the direction I got that it was kinda going towards for because I wanted it to go that way too, 1 star for Van/Ice's character, and half a star for Brian's character in the beginning of the book till about half way where he got a bit ridiculous. If this book was maybe a 300 pg read, with more details and growth of the characters and story, It would have made for a fantastic read for me. I just wanted the book to make me believe in their love at least but I didnt see it.
Maybe I'm biased cause cops and M/M are one of my favorite. This was an excellent story! It had some great twists. There is not much more that can be said than that blurb without leaving spoiler. I like that, although you know Van/Ice/Iceman is attracted to Brian, he keeps his distance at first. Brian, who is buried deeply in the closet, is very much turned on by Ice, but avoids any attraction he feels, or is trying to very hard. So you get a lot of sexual tension building up to it. That is so much more fun to read than sparks flying and the characters immediately falling on top of each other. You know what's in Brian's mind but you don't with Ice, although it's clear what he's thinking by his actions, even if Brian can't figure it out. If you look hard enough, you might be able to figure out the plot twists, and I wasn't surprised by events that happened at the end, I was waiting for it to happen, but still, I loved the story and the characters. They were very endearing and made a very sweet couple... very hot together too. I'm going to get started on the next book in the series right away. Although the next one features different MC's, I'm hoping to see Van and Brian again at some point. They are too cute to lose touch with.
I thought Brian's character was explained well but the rest were just given cursory attributes. It would have been better if this story had been about 40 pages longer with more fleshing out (pun intended) of the plot itself. I like alpha males but Ice just didn't really do it for me. I didn't buy him as the gang leader at all. Brian was far more believable but wasn't enough to make this more than a 3 star read for me.
I am going to get the sequels and see where the author takes the story. I think there is a ton of potential for expansion here with some interesting side characters and the cop/gang interaction could be a very rich source of conflict. I did feel like the build up was good and the suspense elements were there but could have been much more tightly woven to create a more thriller like book that would have notched it up in the rating for me. I did enjoy it overall so I rounded up a bit and gave it a 3.
Hmmm….Well, this is a short story that is kinda sweet. I enjoyed the interaction of the characters. The plot was a little common and predictable. I usually enjoy these types of stories; this one was just off for me. The plot was just really, really obvious. I didn’t buy how the love story developed between the characters. And finally the near insta-love was just a little much. I do think if the characters were fleshed out a bit and a the two characters interaction was longer and more involved I could like this story a whole lot more even with an obvious plot.
Okay, this series is broken up into eight short story or novella length chunks, and the price* for each is $3.99, with a $4.99 (book 3) thrown in, and you seriously expect me to buy them?? Well, I was super excited and ready to dive in...but now I'm gonna wait until there's some kind of sale that doesn't charge me 32.92 fucking dollars, thankyouverymuch.
Same reason I didn't buy the Flesh Cartel series. IT'S WAY OVERCHARGING.
Not a bad little book. Not sure I understood half of the emotions that Brian was going through the descriptions were kinda lacking in that regard even if it was a first person read.
But I liked Ice. The reveal at the end was too easy to figure out for it to have been the big surprise Brian thought it was , but oh well.
Wasn't a bad book. Quick read so I'd recommend this one to anyone looking for something short with a few sex scenes between a guy so far in the closet he could be in Narnia and the man who isn't everything he seems.
This is a great story. It says in the blurb that “it is a story of great passion, sizzling sex, and above all, a love story laced with the unexpected”, and that is certainly true! Whether Brian and Ice butt heads initially, or whether they give in to their inescapable attraction, they do it with gusto and deep conviction.
This was my fist D.J. Manly book. I am in love with this author's writing. I want to inhale everything this brilliant mind creates. I was taken with this book with the first paragraph. The characters were well developed, and you can't help but fall in love quickly. I can't wait to read book two. If you haven't read a Manly book, you have no idea what you are missing!
This was a solid 3 stars until the ending and that brought it up to a 3.5 stars.
It was a quick and easy read...a little steamy...but the near insta-love (which was necessary due to the length of the book) is not my cup of tea. This had a great story line...a lot like Mexican Heat in someways...but I would have really liked to have seen this one a full length novel.
Not a bad start to a series. A young cop finds himself in the middle of a biker/police turf war that could lead to a new love and possible death. Interesting characters and premise made for a fast read though I wish the storyline had more meat to it. We are told quite a bit but not shown much and it left some aspects weak.
3.5 stars Hmmm, a closeted young cop taken as a hostage by sexy gay biker gang leader? Can I say HOT? *grin* I enjoy the story. I enjoy the banter between Brian and Estevan "Ice" Dias. While the last part is a bit too sweet compared to the whole sense of the story but overall, I like it.
The idea of the plot was good and I was waiting more feelings and emotion from this story (I already read some bikers’ books that I enjoyed very much). I was a bit disappointed by the lack of emotion, nevertheless it was an easy and pleasant reading but I am not sure I’ll read the sequel.
I really enjoyed this book, I was a little disappointed when I looked up Melting Ice 2 and seen it wasn't about Van and Brian. But will of course read #2.
Loved the story! Very hot and intense, I liked tough Ice and cunfused Brian and I liked the twist in the end. Would love to read more about them together - selling peanuts, huh? xD
Brian was a cop in the closet and not well like because his Dad was the Police Commissioner. His new sergeant sets him up to be killed because he refused to service him. Brian is rescued by Ice, the leader of the gang they were after. While being held prisoner, Brian falls for Ice or Van as his real name is. Van takes Brian's virginity. Van takes Brian with him when he goes to take down Sergeant Maloney. Brian finds out later that Van is an undercover cop. They confess their feelings for each other while in protective custody which ends bad for the assassin who comes after them.
Honestly, this probably could have been titled "Melting Officer Fuller" and been more appropriate. It isn't exactly Ice who's the abrasive one after all. He's in charge, yes, running the show, yes, but not once does he seem unwilling to protect [or get close to:] the 'kidnapped' officer in his charge.
Not much to say beyond that; the plot was kind of wavering but easily forgiven due to the focus of the story on the relations between Ice and Fuller. The end was predictable or at the very least unsurprising, although it kind of got on my nerves how Ice all of a sudden turned to practically groveling for forgiveness.
HATE when authors do that to previously uber-strong characters. ><;;
This could have been so good. First it was too short. There was so much that was rushed, so many good ideas were left dangling it was disturbing. D. J. Manly kept giving us a glimpse of a character and then just dropping the thread and moving on. What was the bad guy's motivation? What was up with Cat? How did the cops family handle the whole gay thing? We really know nothing about Ice except he has a sister, his parents were killed. My other point of frustration was Fuller. I felt if D. J. Manly had put tits on him he would easily have been a woman. Not an effeminate man, no a woman. Thats the way this character read for me. I found it so frustrating.
