Rate this book
Every mother’s nightmare happened to Mary Garrett. A sudden call. A frightening voice saying her daughter had been kidnaped. Brisk instructions not to call law enforcement but to drive east on I-80 within the hour. Jack Beckett was sitting across from her in an expensive restaurant. She begged for his help. He couldn’t say no. Beckett drove Mary Garrett east for two days. A mysterious man named Pippen followed. Beckett and Mary tried to unravel the clues they had. But there were no options. If Mary wanted to see her daughter alive, they had to keep driving. When they arrived at the destination, it was a heavily guarded compound deep in the Ohio woods. They drove past a towering gate into a place like no other. Would Mary find her daughter? Would they make it out alive? Praise for Jack Beckett books . “Jack Beckett reminds me of Jack Reacher. If you enjoy lots of action and adventure, read D.G. Baxter’s books.” – Terry “The Beckett series is one of the best ever. I really need more. I can’t get enough of the characters and especially the banter.” – GMR

This is book two in the Jack Beckett series and has Beckett approached by a woman who wants his help. She has been recommended to use Beckett by another woman he helped with a stalker problem. This woman, Mary Garret, wants his help to find out who has been following her and soon this gets worse as she is notified that her daughter has been kidnapped. Beckett is meeting her for the first time, when she gets the call telling her about her daughter and sticks with her as she is instructed to get in her car and start driving in a certain direction. She is allowed to go home and grab some clothes and supplies and Beckett takes the chance to get his car and check out of his hotel.

It seems there is someone else involved in the kidnapping, a man called Pippin, who has the job of closely following them and keeping his bosses aware of anything they may try. The men behind the kidnapping, twin brothers called Vincent and Victor, want Mary for her work and research knowledge, in a project the firm she was working for, are in charge of developing. It has to do with DNA and the finding and location of the intelligence genes. The CEO of the company was killed earlier that day, in a supposed car accident. They need Mary and have set up a completely manned lab in their fortress style compound.

One of the brothers, Vincent, is a sadistic psychopath and loves to kill. He will do whatever he wants to get money, power and success. He has been doing this since they were in high school. His brother Victor, mainly follows Vincent’s lead and does what he says. Their compound is more like a fortress than anything else and is spread over 400 acres. They built an enormous main house, after the death of their parents when they were in high school, and have added loads of other buildings, including the fully fitted lab and accommodation for the workers. They also have their own security team, horses and stables, just about anything lots of money could buy. They are technically savvy and have placed bugs on Mary and Beckett’s phones, so they will know if they try to contact the police or FBI.

Luckily, Beckett has his own contacts in the FBI and local law enforcement, from his successful assistance with a recent case. He uses these to get some people on his team and to start investigating the kidnapping and Mary’s abduction, on the quiet. The kidnappers wants the results from Mary’s project in influencing higher intelligence through DNA manipulation. They have a buyer for this information and it could make the holder billions, if it gets used. All Mary wants is to get her daughter back, but she will have to work for these evil brothers, or play ball and pretend to do as they want. Beckett has been allowed to come with her, but the brothers obviously don’t know who they are dealing with! Beckett was a boxer, who only retired a year before, but he will do anything he can to help others after ignoring a childhood friend, to bad effect, made a lasting impression on his soul.

Beckett and Mary are separated when they reach their final destination and Beckett is offered a new job – for the bad guys. Maybe this is why they allowed him to stay alive. Beckett’s contacts start to get close to finding out their location and who might be behind the kidnapping, so their captors make a sudden run in the middle of the night, to avoid any intrusion into their plans. Their buyer is Russian and the next location for Mary and the brothers will be Cuba! They have left a couple of the security team behind to take control of destroy any evidence left behind, which includes all the lab staff, the rest of the security force and even Beckett. Luckily, Beckett is more resourceful than they imagined. He is Mary and her daughter’s only chance to escape and come out of this situation alive.

A great adventure in just one short read! The book is just shy of two hundred pages long, but packs in the action and every bit of it is totally believable. Beckett is a man looking to help others, but with the skills to kill a man with his bare hands. Boxing isn’t the only skill he has. The event in his youth has channelled him into a man with a strong moral compass and a need to do good. There is plenty of detail in the story and the characters work well together in a difficult situation. A well-crafted storyline, which has you wanting to read more and hoping for the good guy to succeed no matter what is thrown at him. I can’t wait to read more. I need to find out which of the books in the series was the first and see the events that shaped Beckett’s life. There is more adventures to come in this series and I would recommend them to all who love a likeable hero and a bit of adventure. I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Jack Beckett is a millionaire ex-boxer who cannot abide abuse of women and children. His previous adventure had left him in good stead with many branches of law enforcement. He is going to need their help for this one. Mary is the lead scientist on an intelligence gene project. Her daughter, Lee Ann, has been kidnapped. Not so coincidentally, the CEO of her research facility tragically dies in a car accident. To top that off, the facility was robbed and all of Mary's work is stolen. Vincent and Victor are twins who are millionaires as well and they are in cahoots with the Russians to get control of this project. This fits Beckett's skill set just fine. A middleman named Pippen follows them on their journey to rescue Lee Ann, giving them just bits of information at a time. Another exciting Jack Beckett adventure!

Great new series

I liked the first book in this series and this second one is even better. This got my interest right away and never slowed down. Jack Beckett is a fascinating protagonist. I like that he has the resources to do what needs to be done, such as chartering the plane in this book. The overused comparison, "If you like Jack Reacher, you'll like _________, "is actually true in this instance. I'm eagerly looking forward to more of these books. I like the action, the adventure, the growing network of support characters, Beckett, and I guess there isn't anything I don't like about these books.

No Turning Back is the second book in the Jack Beckett series. I love this series and cannot wait to read more books by this author.

Jack Beckett is an amazing character, strong, intelligent, and caring. This thriller is fast-paced and action-packed, with Jack trying to help a mother to locate her kidnapped daughter. The storyline is well written and compelling, keeping me on the edge of my seat throughout, with murder, kidnapping, espionage, danger, suspense, and intrigue. Will Jack be able to rescue the girl in time or will he lose his life instead?

I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.

Just an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING READ!!

Jack is back!! Jack is in California, after doing a job for a woman there, he is referred to a woman, named Mary. Mary's daughter Lee Ann has been taken from her school and is no where to be found! Jack as always can't turn Mary down, it's the kind of thing he is good at. It turns into a long drive toward the East Coast. Lost of action and a epic ending!!
