A lot has happened in the last few months. Alexis is officially dating the Dark Prince, but she hasn't done much as his "consort" yet. So when he invites her to a meeting between the elves and the five Courts, she immediately accepts. It's time for everyone to come together to solve the problem of the Solitary fae. She just wishes that the malicious Unseelie Court hadn't volunteered to play host. Molly hasn't told Alexis much about her time in the Faery Realm. She should have confessed everything immediately, but Alexis hadn't pushed, and Molly hadn't been ready. Months later, all Molly wants to do is forget about the Faery Realm and return to her normal, mortal life. But someone isn't willing to be forgotten. He's been sending her strange gifts, each more disturbing than the last, and she's afraid of what he'll do next. To rid herself of her unwanted suitor, Molly joins Alexis on her mission in the Faery Realm. Maybe this time they'll manage to solve more problems than they create ...
I began writing when I was about twelve years old. I finished my first "novel" (it was only about 20 thousand words) when I was fourteen, and it will never see the light of day. I write YA Fantasy and I'm currently writing the final book of the Faery Realm series. I also write Adult Fantasy under the penname J.E. Ridge.
Name- Divided Worlds Written & published by- Jennifer Ridge Pages- 346 Ratings- 5🌟 Review- I was left with a hangover after reading Between worlds. The faery realm series is more addictive than I imagined it to be. Somehow I felt reading Divided Worlds a bit late would make the adventure last longer. Alexis and Molly's adventure in the faery realm continues in the second book. While Alexis returns as a person who gets better at making her life less complicated, Molly keeps on facing the complexities that started for her in the faery realm. Her ex Dax, isn't ready to leave her. While the readers got a total insight of Alexis' life, Molly's time in the faery realm remained a mystery. The mystery got solved in this second book of the series. The introduction of a set of new characters and a glimpse of the Unseelie court seemed to work in the favour of the book. The dark Prince Keir, acted like the perfect saviour for his official consort Alexis and even her best friend Molly. The glimpse of an important character towards the end proves Alexis' theory that the war is far from being over. Divided Worlds is a perfect successor of Between Worlds keeping the readers in daze craving for more. Lastly, I'm excited for the next book which Jennifer promised will release soon.
I liked Between Worlds well enough, but I loved this one. I have it in my head that I should like Alexis more than Molly, but I found myself super excited about all of Molly's chapters. It was a story that was bolstered by its expanding cast and narrative viewpoints rather than muddied by them, and also bolstered by its expandingly diverse cast, too. Now, I wasn't thrilled that Lark and Molly's relationship started with Lark being kind of a jerk to her, but they worked it out and now I like them. Keir and Alexis's troubles are similar but not so much so that it's the same thing happening over and over. I love Jaxith, I love Finch, I gotta know what happens next. Needless to say, I'm very excited about continuing the series.
Note: I received this book from the author and I voluntarily give this review, it is my honest opinion.
Alexis and Molly are back! Divided Worlds is the second book in the Faery Realm series and it was so much better than the first, I loved it so much. We first met Alexis in Between Worlds, when she went to the faery realm to get her best friend, Molly, back. She goes on a long harrowing journey that not only changes Alexis but cemented her in the faery world.
Faeries are disappearing from the courts and the solitary fae have gotten stronger, something is up and the courts have finally taken notice. There is a big meeting that will bring the royals of the fae courts to the Unseelie court to discuss the missing fae and since Alexis is now a consort she once again has to make a perilous trip through faery to meet in the dangerous Unseelie court. When you mix court politics and danger, of course, things aren't going as plan and once again Alexis finds herself in a world surrounded by the beautiful but deadly fae.
The first book, Between Worlds, I did enjoy but it didn't give me that giddy feeling I get when I read a book that I get totally absorbed in. However with Divided World, I did get that feeling, I loved this book so much, it kept me hooked from the beginning until the very end. I loved every second of it and devoured the story like it was chocolate.
So much happened, while most of the story takes place in the Faery world there are a good amount of scenes that happen in the human world that help gives a better understanding of the fae. Then add in representations of the other courts, actually visiting the Unseelie court and exploring more of the Wilds, it rounds out the world Jennifer was building giving a better sense of understanding of the courts.
One of my favorite things about Divided Worlds was that it was told from multiple points-of-view, while in the first book the story was only told from Alexis pov, this time we get to hear from not only Alexis but from Molly and Keir too. Hearing from these two important characters made the story richer, and I was able to disappear more into the story. Reading from Keir's pov was amazing, I love seeing how much he actually cares for Alexis, what his worries were, I also notice how his negative qualities but the good out ways the bad and Alexis can handle him. I love Alexis and Keir together, I think she supports him and teaches him compassion, while he listens to and supports her.
I love the diversity of this book, not only are different cultures, races and classes are represented but also different sexuality and gender representation. So many types were included and while authors are getting better at including more diversity they can never do it enough.
Through this series Alexis has grown and changed so much, she is a smart, outspoken person who cares about people (and faeries) but isn't a pushover. I love her as a character and can't wait for her next adventure.
Divided Worlds is a great continuation of the story that I loved diving into. I was highly entertained and totally connected to the story. Only some of my questions were answered this time around and I still have a few more questions I want the answers to. The next book in the series is Beautiful Worlds and this time around it primarily focuses on Sirius. While I really liked Sirius and I do want to read the next book, I really want another book with the originals, I feel that Alexis story isn't over yet and I hope she gets another book.
I thought this was a fantastic follow up to the first book, "Between Worlds". The second book builds on the first in a satisfying way, but if you read it as a stand-alone you would still be able to follow the story and characters.
What is it about? The Solitary Fae are organizing, but no one in the faerie realm knows why. It is spilling into the mortal realm. Half fae and quarter fae are being kidnapped from the mortal realm as well as from the courts in the fairie realm. Alexis and Keir plan to find out what is happening.
Meanwhile, Molly is not adjusting well to her return to the mortal realm. She has a stalker who is relentless in his pursuit of Molly. Then one of Molly's friends is directly affected and she has to set off for the faerie realm to take back what was stolen.
What I liked. I loved how the author intertwined the two stories together. I love how we dive deeper into the world she has created and the detail to fashion was a nice touch. There are some very clever bits of magic that are introduced, that I really enjoyed, like a jar of dragon scales can magically create a ball gown.
I also enjoyed the addition of new characters especially Lark. Lark identifies as non-binary. There was a brief conversation about pronouns that I thought was well done. Lark likes to have the pronoun "they" btw. I really liked the relationship they and Molly had together. I thought the author handled the distinction very well.
Also, I really appreciated the author's handling of an abusive relationship. This may be a trigger for some, but it was not overly graphic or violent. It was an accurate depiction of the essence of an abusive relationship and it was resolved in a way that was accurate and empowering.
The climax was surprising and satisfying while setting up the conflict for the next book.
What I didn't like Honestly? There wasn't anything that stood out as distracting or annoying. I felt like every page was necessary and well utilized and I was on the edge of my seat at the end.
I would definitely recommend this book and the series. I already have the next book on my threquel list.
Well-written, humorous, tense, exciting, dramatic, romantic, and completely captivating
How apt the title is of this second installment that tells of the faery realm and all its creatures of magic, and those who straddle between their world and the mortal realm. But it’s more than Alexis, who is both obligated and drawn to Keir, the fae prince of the Dark Court, and Molly, a half-faery who isn’t finding it as easy to return to the mortal realm as she thought it would be; no, there is so much more at play, with division abounding in the faery realm. So much so that it’s spilling into both worlds.
The faery realm itself was seemingly divided from the start into two original courts, that further evolved and are now five. Except it’s actually five plus a band of cast-offs referred to as “The Solitary.” But the solitary aren’t seeming, well, all that solitary anymore as their numbers mysteriously begin to swell, and they begin to threaten the courts and mortals alike. Fae, elves, vampires, shapeshifters, and other creatures you’ve only imagined in your most twisted and fanciful dreams now must decide who they can trust, and who is secretly involved with whatever turmoil has begun to upend the tenuous peace that they’ve all forged.
With multiple subplots woven throughout, and characters both known and beloved and new and intriguing, Divided Worlds is an action-packed and engaging tale that has satisfaction in dealing with some of the issues at hand while still setting the stage for the larger conflict as yet to unfold. It is well-written and in turn humorous, tense, exciting, dramatic, romantic, and yet always completely captivating. And this time I’m not waiting to start the next book!
As with any well-written book series, the second book was even more exciting than the first, and I loved seeing more of the Faery Realm and the characters.
(I’ll keep this really vague so it won’t be spoilery if you haven’t read book 1)
The story picks up shortly after Between Worlds ended, when Alexis is getting used to her arrangement with her faery prince, Keir, and Molly is trying to cope with the trauma from book 1. Meanwhile in the Faery Realm, the creatures in the wild are building an army, and the Court fae hold a meeting to decide what to do about the threat. This leads Alexis, Keir, and Molly to the dangerous Unseelie Court.
I loved meeting new characters like Lark and Finch, and I was SO EXCITED FOR JYNX AND JAXITH TO RETURN! The shapeshifter siblings are my favorite characters in the series; Jynx is hilarious and Jaxith is…well, I won’t say anything about Jaxith except that I love him and want the best for him.
The Unseelie Court setting was dark and unique and I loved their grotesque fashion sense. All the fae royals were intriguing, and I’m anxious to see how some of the court politics play into the plot later in the series.
If you’re looking for a fun (and dark) faery story with friendships and political intrigue and a bit of romance, check out these books! :)
I love the second cover than for book 1. We have three point of views. We learn about what's inside Keir's mind and more about his darkness. We learn more about Alexis and what actually happened to Molly while she was in the fae realm. There will definitely be a third book and I'm really looking forward to it. ^_^ I'm loving the adventure and all of the new characters. My favorite character is Jynx. I think I can get along with her very well. I loved her dress for the ball. I so want one.
For 17+ who like adventure, romance and traveling between worlds. Plus the cover is very pretty.
Alexis' and Molly's adventure goes on, and turns darker as they are forced deep into the Faery Realm. Surrounded by the many faces of the Courts, Alexis finds her way, and her place on Keir's side. Molly has more than enough work on Dax, whose love is not what she had in mind. Meanwhile more and more fae are missing, and they end up in a place where you'd rather not be.
Divided Worlds has left me yearning for the next book Beautiful Worlds
This was an exciting second book! As usual, I loved the main cast of characters and was fascinated by the side characters introduced in this one. But what I really loved was getting to go deeper into the Faery Realm! Awesome read.
A spectacular sequel! Definitely lived up to the first in the series, and in my opinion, was even better in some ways. Having multiple POV's can be tricky, but Divided Worlds did a wonderful job with it! Totally something I'll read again, and again, and again.
Great next book in the series!! You get deeper into court and faire realm happenings!! Also now instead of just a magical wardrobe I want luggage like it too!!
The second installment in Alexis and Molly's Faery adentures was everything I wanted and more. Not only do we get to dive back into Faery with the cast from Between Worlds, but Ridge increases the intensity tenfold! Who doesn't love raising the stakes? Just when Alexis and Molly thought things couldn't get worse, we meet the Wild King and his mysterious horde of...monsters? Wild Fae? a little bit of both? And it's fabulous. Jinx and Sirius just continue to be my personal favorites, and gahhhh, I cannot wait to dive into book 3! I absolutely love Jinx's sarcasm and sass. If you love faeries and magic with a sprig of darkness and super relatable and quirky characters this series is absolutely for you!
