I think you have to give it up to Shannon West for never failing to amuse her readers with her witty and sassy banters as well as unique and exciting characters. 😊👏 I’ve been in love with “Mate of the Tyger Prince” series from the very beginning and let me say that this one didn’t disappoint me either. 😉 In fact, it’s a miracle that she’s able to pull off totally different and fantastic storylines every time from MCs who have a bit similar characteristics. 👍

Derrick, the fourth Prince of the Tygerian planet, and the darling sweetheart of his Omak Blake. Unlike the older twins, Derrick has very similar personality to the crown prince and the eldest brother, Mikos. A young man of adventures, bravery and willfulness. And after slaving away at the military camp learning everything there’s to know about fighting and strategies for 6 years, the day has finally came to go back to his home planet and involve in military campaigns. And what better way there is than to celebrate the freedom and the beginning of his youth by going to a small pleasure moon of Belline and drinking himself to his fullest pleasure. 😁 And everything changed in less than 12 hours.

Rhaegar Barbosa, the pirate king and the cunning and strategic leader of the Drex pirates. He has never thought he’d find his life mate while drinking alone in a small cantina of the pleasure moon of Belline. And to his worst nightmare, that young and delectable man is a Tygerian? His worst natural enemy? 😱 But love is not reasonable and love has no prejudices. 😌 He has to get his hands on this exotic and beautiful, young man and he has to claim him as his mates. One small bite and he’s going to be his. 😉

Since Derrick was terribly inebriated, he had no idea of the night he spent with Rhaegar in the small alley behind the cantina. He and his partner in crime Kylar left the pleasure moon the next day and returned to their home planet immediately. Little did he knew, they left a whole load of problems behind and now there are two men who are desperate to reunite with them. And out of blue moon, the man who hooked up with his best friend showed up several days later and claimed that Derrick impregnated him. 😱😂 And don’t underestimate Rhaegar, Derrick’s true mate too. He’s bidding his time to scoop up Derrick and make him remember their one passionate night on the pleasure moon of Belline. A pirate and a prince? 😱 There’s no silver lining for their future or will love be able to conquer everything in the end? 😍

I love side character Egan who hooked up with Derrick’s best friend. He’s so funny and witty and he truly supported Derrick’s role in this novel. This was quite a refreshing and different storyline from previous books in the series since all of Derick’s older brothers ended up with very impressive and prestigious mates. 😁 As always, although there are not much smut in this one like the previous books, the lovemaking of Derrick and Rhaegar was very passionate and sexy. 😍 I love that under the façade of tough and stern pirate King, there’s a romantic softie on the inside of Rhaegar. 💙 And don’t forget Blake! 😉 God, I just can’t get enough of that sassy-mouthed, witty, cunning and brave human who’d do anything for his children. No Tyger prince book would be complete without the influence of Blake. 😍 And he’s as sassy, witty, funny and fierce as ever! 😁 It was good to see all relationship aspects between Rhaegar and Derrick and their Omak Blake. Since this was mostly about kidnapping and falling in love with the captor, I didn’t get much of romance between Rhaegar and Derrick so I wish I would have gotten an epilogue of their honeymoon after their escape. 😌 Despite from that, everything worked very well and I truly enjoyed reading this one. Nice Job Shannon! 👏

Favorite excerpts from the novel: 💗💜💗

“I’m half-Lycan. My bite will make you my mate, and if I make love to you, if I give you my knot, then I won’t be able to resist biting you. So unless you want to be mine…” “I do. Make me yours.”

“I don’t know why anyone is in such a hurry to get married. Once a man marries, the sex almost stops entirely.” Ryan gave him an incredulous look. “What? We make love every day.” “Yes… once or twice a day. Not enough.” “Any more and I wouldn’t be able to walk.

Rhaegar lowered his head and claimed Derrick’s mouth in a searing kiss. It was the most powerful kiss between them yet, even hotter than the one in the alley on Belline. This one was needy and strong and Rhaegar kissed him like he owned him—which in his mind, he did.

“I’ll agree to the children, but not Davos’s mate. He stays. Your ‘omak’ as you call him, is very good looking. If you renege on the deal, he’d fetch a high price on the love slave market on Pellius 3.”

When it comes to Ms. West, it's like coming to my safe zone. My guilty pleasure. Because I know what to expect. With that being said, I still have a mixed feeling about this book. Reluctant mate plot and miscommunication often drive me crazy. And don't let me start with the long separation between my MC's. Ugh... I hate that. Thank goodness, the chemistry between them did help a lot. As it should be because they're mates. <3

I tried to read this book when it first came out and I could not finish it. I went back to it only because the next book in the series is directly impacted by the events in this one. I must say, I liked it better this time around. It may be my mood, but it got better as it went along. The biggest problem I had with it was Derrick and Rhaegar’s relationship. The two of them drove me crazy but Derrick was by far the worse of the two. I liked Egan okay but really none of the couples were together much throughout the story. My favorite part of the whole book was Ryan trying to explain ‘The Wizard of Oz’ to Mikos. It made me laugh, so that was a plus.

Overall the book was okay. The second half was better than the first. Now I’m on to the next one. Hopefully, it will be better.

**grm**

This 6th book felt rushed and had also many grammatical errors and sometimes ppl were called with the wrong name. The story didn't really have an epilogue and it seemed as if the author was a bit out of ideas. Many scenes were repetitive, and also if I liked Blake, he wasn't enough to make me rate this story more than 3 stars. Derrick and Rhaegar (GOT reference?) weren't a bad couple, and I liked the bickering, but I needed to see more feelings, more serious speeches and then a bonus would have been them exchanging position...so bored of this stupid "I'm the top, and I can't be a bottom" shi*.
Kylar and Egan were ok, but nothing special.

I thought this would be more about one particular couple over the other. I wish Ms. West would iron that out. Book 1 did a real good job of staying on Ryan and Mikos, not so much focus on the other stories. I don't mind the characters getting introduced for future stories but the constant back and forth when they aren't part of the plot at all or have little movement in it is really bothersome. And then there's the fact that this species does fall into mpreg, but we rarely get that. It's starting to lose interest for me to be honest.

Once more Mrs West has decided to divide the matter of a new book into two interdependent halves, full with parasitic stuff - thus there is neither conclusion to the story nor any sense of closure as to the main pairing. Whatever potential this Derrick / Rhaegar mating could have possessed is drawned among not one but two parasitic layers - the Blake silliness and the Kyler / Egan romance. Thus enfeebled by a trinity of preposterous, clumsily built narrative arcs, as if thrice zero would ever make a positive sum, small wonder the arc that pits the young Tyger prince against the pirate king after a positively loony first meeting is a weird thing of shreds and patches. Never before has Mrs West's writing been that threadbare, with not a few characters misnamed to keep boiling a pot already brimming full with misspellings and barbarisms and limping sentences.

I love this series. I have devoured each and every book with glee, until this one. %sigh% I can’t say Inconvenient Mate is awful either, it just doesn’t live up to the others. Shannon West’s writing is always engaging and the story itself had so much potential, but it just never came together for me.

First off, right out of the gate… Derrick was WAY too drunk to consent the night he met Rhaegar and Rhaegar knew it. I get the whole overwhelmed by finding your mate thing, but this fell too far to the side of Rhaegar taking advantage. I fully cop to being oversensitive to this issue right now considering the state of the world we live in, but it did bother me. It was also probably true of Egan and Kylar, but their interaction happens off-page, so I can’t say much there.

Also, this needed to be either Derrick and Rhaegar’s book OR Egan and Kylar’s book, not both. Neither story got the attention they deserved especially when Derrick’s father/omak Blake unnecessarily takes up so much space. I’d be very happy if Blake and Ryan would stop taking over other couple’s stories for the rest of the series. Derrick and Rhaegar never have a single substantive conversation in the entire book. All they do is yell at each other and f*ck. There’s no relationship development to make the transition to making love or even just having sex. I couldn’t fathom why they end up together in the end, other than the mating imperative. I suspect Derrick and Rhaegar may get a 2nd book, or be the start of a spin-off series, time will tell.

On the Egan and Kylar side, the couple is on different planets/ships for 98% of the story. Egan was introduced in an earlier book as Marcus and somehow magically he is a COMPLETELY different person here, down to his appearance. It’s explained away, but I didn’t buy it. Their story was worthy of a whole book on its own, not just shoehorned into this one.

Overall, if you liked the rest of the series, you’ll like this installment well enough. I would also say that this story doesn’t stand alone very well. If you like science fiction or paranormal romance and haven’t read the series before, start at the beginning with Mate of the Tyger Prince. I promise you’ll be glad you did.

FYI – There is MPREG in the story and the series, but here it’s more of a catalyst than an actual storyline.

The cover is fine. The illustration of Rhaegar is spot on, but I wish it weren’t quite so monochromatic. As is the trend lately, the font doesn’t scale well and is impossible to read as a thumbnail. That said, it’s probably lovely as a paperback.

My initial feeling when I discovered the author had at least one more book in her ‘Mate of the Tyger Prince’ series was pure excitement. I have thoroughly enjoyed each previous installment, the characters are fantastic, the romances are blazing hot, and the worldbuilding is phenomenal. I am not going to reiterate the worldbuilding in this review as I did that for the first three books, and since I firmly believe they should be read in order, I’m going to guess that anyone reading my review already knows. *grins*

Prince Derrick has been gone from home for far too many years training to be a soldier so he could fight in the war. He has now graduated, the war is over, he’s finally on his way home, and well, boys will be boys so it’s no wonder Derrick and his best friend, Kylar, end up in a situation they’re completely unprepared for. I’m fairly certain I’ve said this before but if Blake, the prince’s omak, hadn’t kept them so sheltered, they never would have ended up in the messes they did. Tygerian males must be very careful to never have penetrative sex until they find their mates for they bond very quickly and being apart from their mate is very painful. Of course, this was the last thing on Derrick’s mind as he was drunk off his a** in an alley with a Drex pirate that made Derrick feel as if everything was right in his world.

Oh the misadventures King Davos and Blake’s sons have gotten themselves into and it’s only the first four of them! Even though Blake’s boys always end up in these disasters, they somehow come out smelling like roses, well by the end anyway. Derrick’s pirate is actually King Rhaegar Barbosa, half-Lycan king of the Drex home planet of Tresaria. He is a pirate but he is still a king. Kylar’s mate, Egan, is a pirate but not a Drex. Egan is actually Prince Egan whose mother is the queen of Vokaria, a planet on the far reaches of space. Egan is also a voloi meaning he can impregnate a female or be impregnated by a male of his choosing, which is unexpectedly what happens with Kylar. However, children born out of wedlock are not accepted on Vokaria, so Egan is in a miserable way. It stands to reason that he and his cousin Rhaegar will head to Tygeria to find their mates.

A ScatteredThoughtsandRogueWords Review.

Derrick and Kylar are upto no good on Belline but they have no idea just how permanent the relationships they form on that planet are going to turn out to be.

Egan is unwed and pregnant a circumstance that is an anathema in his country and he needs help but he ends up finding the wrong Tygerian.

Rhaegar Barbose has imprinted on his mate and he is going to get what he wants one way or another, even if he has to travel to the edges of the galaxy, deal with the Bloody Prince himself and get caught in the middle of a civil war on another planet.

I’m really surprised by how much I love this book though I have to add an addendum I love this book because I’m sure we have to be getting another one to solve all the problems this book created right before it ended.

Oh! God! There is just so much going on here and the best thing about this book is the way it tackles everything. This book is a romance but a rather unconventional one at that. Nothing goes according to plan and there is a whole horde of politics getting in the way but wow this book officially blew me away, like really blew me away.

I kind of predicted that the next book would be about Marcus Sept and it is but apparently we definitely didn’t know as much as we thought we did about Marcus err... Egan. But along with that we even get Derrick’s story though there is a definite discrepancy in his age, I am going to ignore all continuity errors in favour of the story.

So while we do get the pairing s of Kylar & Egan, and Derrick & Rhaegar. There is also just so much happening in this book and it is amazing. We get all these non-romantic pairings which were awesome because some of these characters have amazing chemistry and I am not talking in the romantic or sexual way but woah! the chemistry in the relationship they do share was mind blowing. Like Mikos and Rhaegar feel like two people who can really hit it off they are surprisingly like-minded and then Egan and Derrick also had an amazing chemistry and I loved their banter in fact for one moment I was wondering if the author was thinking of going there...

This book tells an amazing story and it does so by focusing on its characters and their interactions with other characters with small shout-outs to old favourites because even though we only get one scene between Mikos and Ryan it was just so endearing, I really love these two. And of course Nicarr my absolute favourite though I feel bad about neglecting Larz for someone who is on page as much as Larz is, we don’t really know much about Davos and Blake’s fifth child.

Now, while I want to avoid spoilers I really want to talk about what this book is setting up to in the form of the conflict that the union of Derrick & Rhaegar raises in the form of tensions between Blake and Davos and in the form of tensions between Davos and Derrick and I for one have no idea how the author is going to solve these tensions because with the way things are headed, things are going to get really hairy.

Though I would kill for a moment between Davos and Derrick considering what happened the last time they were in the same room together and I really wonder how it will be for Derrick to depart on such terms with his father. I just remember commenting in my review for the last book that I loved how good a father Davos is and I got proof of that when Davos helps Mikos figure out Egan’s situation but I really want a peaceful and loving resolution to Derrick and Davos because I know Davos loves his kids, I know it. So, knowing that for now, Davos is very angry with Derrick has me very uneasy and I really need a resolution for this.

Onwards to our favourite Omak... I love Blake though sometimes I wonder why he said what he did to Derrick in the very end there and why didn’t he mention Larz like at all. Blake I didn’t expect that from you. I feel like Blake still doesn’t have a grasp on his relationship with Mikos because I have a feeling he himself doesn’t understand it. Blake and Mikos are very close but the thing that Blake realises to at least some extent is that one of the things that binds Blake to Davos was Mikos’ birth because Mikos really changed Blake’s view on his relationship with Davos, which leads us to Blake and Davos and their relationship which is just so complex and just when I had thought we got through their last fight intact we have them headed towards an even bigger conflict and I am really scared of where this new conflict will lead. But God that scene after Blake has to kill a Bawthian was so damn endearing it says a lot about how Blake thinks of Mikos and Davos. Blake has literally stolen my heart just on the basis of his sheer love for his family when Derrick tells Rhaegar that Blake won’t leave him I was stunned because this simple fact was just so true and it was amazing that Derrick knew that, knew just how much Blake loves him and what he is willing to do for him. Though I don’t think Davos is now going to be actively hunting Rhaegar considering his relationship to Derrick I really want a peaceful resolution to the relations between these four.

I feel like we have a Blake and Davos story coming up next because I don’t think we can move on to a new couple without stabilising this dynamic.

Please Shannon West don’t break my heart now.

Cover Art by E Keith. I liked this cover better than the other ones in this series though there still is an obvious disconnect between how these characters actually look and their versions depicted on the cover for obvious reasons, I guess.

I hate when authors completely change the look and mannerism of a previously introduced character. In this case Eagan, aka Marcus, is a different person than we were introduced to in the previous book. Why? He was a secondary character, so I'm not even sure why he was made one of the main characters in this book. I didn't really care about him enough to imagine an entire book about him. And why does it seem as if years have passed for the 3 youngest princes, but not for anyone else. I don't know, but I'm starting to lose interest in this once beloved series. If there is another book, I hope it's better than these last two have been.

Amazing story

You get lots of just about everything in this book!!! Lots of action & adventure communication & non-commication & really twisted love & hate relationships!!!!! But really the best is how everyone is really real with everyone - sometimes I feel like those cats following a tennis match & still love the sarcasm & the hilarity of everyone trying to understand earth's colloquiums!!! I hope I'm saying that right
Thank you so much - Lori

Fun

I really enjoy this series. Each book I can't wait to see what trouble Blake will get caught up in. I love the relationships within the family as much as the romances. The world building is fun and keeps the reader in the story. This book is a perfect addition to the series.

A good sixth instalment in the series, but it lacked the ‘home-run’ excellence of the others in the series.

Plot was fine, a little hard to believe at times, it required some characters to act totally out of character. That said, the world building continues to be strong, and the people involved come alive.

While also enjoying the same ‘page-turner’ quality of the others in the series; I do need to admit to struggling to stay engaged at times.

If you have read the others in the series, then definitely give this a read. If you haven’t read the others, you could read this as a stand-alone but it’d make more sense in places if you had read the others.
