The world of the Blackburn Chronicles is a dangerous place. Its tales are those of dark heroes, fantastic devices, and unbreakable love. What tragedy pushed docile nursemaid, Lizzie Frances to become the violent leader of the rebel group Defiance? Find out in this Blackburn Chronicles free read.
Raquel was a military brat who grew up on Marine bases throughout the United States. An avid stargazer, she often travels into the desert near her home to view the meteor showers or throws launch parties for major NASA events.
When she's not writing she can be seen geeking out over sci-fi movies, reading anything she can get her hands on, and having arguments about the television series Firefly in coffee shops. She lives in Southern California with her husband, six kids, and her beloved Huskies, Zena and Keanu.
Known for pulse-pounding fiction with a breathtaking pace, she continues to bring riveting characters and epic worlds to life in an exciting new technothriller series.
Unlike one reviewer, I can tell whether I want to read any more of this series: I don’t. Has this author, who asks time (and sometimes money) , put in the effort to edit, to avoid ambiguity, to prevent reading hiccups, …? They have not. A lack of effort on the author’s end generally leads to a lack of further interest on mine.
This was a rough short story. I think it's important to note that this was probably intended to be read after reading some part of the Blackburn Chronicles (maybe book 1, maybe the last book). Because I haven't read any of the series, I felt pretty lost at some of the things that were happening. It really doesn't help that the book wasn't written super well. The descriptions weren't thorough and the book skipped along at break neck speed, such that I had a really hard time understanding what was happening. All that said, I am intrigued by the world (that's the only reason this got 2 stars). The sudden appearance of an electric dome to cover a city, as well as an airship overhead has me somewhat interested in learning more. However, if the writing quality of the full series is the same as this short story, there's no way I'm touching it, as it will be so hard to get through.
This is a preview of The Blackburn Chronicles. From reading this I don't know if I will like the series. Up until this series I have read all of her books and enjoyed them.
