Royals was pretty interesting and a super quick/easy read. Callyn, the MC, has a very shitty life. She constantly gets beaten up by her very alcoholic dad. UGH! I hated him so freaking much! Every time he was mentioned or in a damn scene I wanted to throw my phone at the wall. So many times I wished I could enter into a book and slap someone senseless! THIS WAS THAT BOOK PEOPLE!

Besides Callyn and crappy life at home, there are 4 juicy looking guys calling her "mate". Zeke, Graydon, Max, and Lucian were all freaking adorable. I love how they all caught a different scent on her. I loved how protective they were whether it was about her dad or the other kids at school.

Ever after meeting everyone some things still didn't click.. with me. First it's another girl living in a lonely and super crappy world until some handsome ass shifter guys come into the rescue. She of course knows jack shit about the shifter world BUT automatically accepts what they tell her and goes on with her life. Also those said people will think they are hot and the shit. ALWAYS.

Now after saying that, I did actually end up liking the book. I just wish there was more.. or ya know a different shifter book set in high school. With some ugly ass looking MC's or something. Not some cocky douches that could become lovable. No I want some ugly people with moles and shit. UNIBROWS UP THE WAHZOO. Give me some gollum looking kids that find love and happiness.

Okay, I got off topic. Overall, it was okay. I expected more but I'll accept what I got. Until the next book.

I had to give this one a few tries to really get into the story. The beginning was not good. I did not like the writing from the very start, it rubbed me the wrong way. The constant repetitions in the sentences were driving me nuts. The storytelling in general was not very good. Exhibit A: “The chairs are wooden stools. I keep my head down and peek up at them.
They are gorgeous.”
It took me a moment to realize she was not talking about the chairs. So yeah.
The only reason I kept going was because I hoped that the plot and the characters would be able to compensate for the writing style. I was partly right.
You know that, once you find one thing that really annoys you, everything else kind of follows suit. It's like an avalanche, there's no stopping it. So when the MC was introduced, I was not really, um..welcoming? She's another one of those lost royalty types, having no idea who she is, abused all her life. She has no friends and constantly says that she's nothing special. That's annoying. And then she meets four of the hottest guys in school and of course they only want her and no one else. “She thinks we’re good looking. She’s not wrong” So modest, aren't they?
It did not help matters that the guys wouldn't admit to who and what they were. I really did not like that part. I did not understand why they would follow the rules of the council, especially when there was no reason behind them.
Also, Callyn's reaction when she finally found out? "Shifters are real? Oh well, no biggie. I have four mates? Cool". Very realistic, not.
However, the plot itself, or rather the idea behind it, was pretty good. I think that, with the storytelling technique improved and some editing here and there, the books can turn out to be really good. I know that from reading my rambling you may not get the idea, but I actually had a nice time reading. I did have to push through at the beginning and close my eyes on a few things, but I would find myself smiling more often than not. I am definitely giving the second book a chance.

This book was very interesting and I would have given it a higher rating but there were a lot of grammatical errors. Many missing or wrong words, usually I am not too bothered by it but there were way too many mistakes for me to look past.

Eh. I only finished it because it would bother me to leave it half read.

First of all, holy grammatical errors. Theirs probably at least 50. I'm certainly not the grammar police, and I make mistakes too. But damn. It really interfered with getting into the story. I can usually overlook these mistakes pretty easily, but you really can't in this book. Missing words, the wrong use of "too, two, and to" MULTIPLE times, as If it was not accidental, and the author really didn't know the difference. Among many other mistakes ,sometimes when meaning "very" for example it would say "every". there was one time I read "to0"! used the wrong "to" AND had a zero instead of the letter o! I mean come on !
So this aside, I may have given a better rating, but the characters and plot were pretty awful as well.
Possible spoilers so be aware

The main character is pretty bland. No personality, nothing that makes her different, she is just blah. Monotone. Yes yes I feel terrible for her because she is physically abused by her father. But that still doesn't make me love her. There literally was no material to make us really connect with her. Barely any inner monologue to let us know how she thinks. Or even feels.

The guys are the same way. The author attempts to make them have different characteristics but most of the time, I couldn't differentiate between one guy to the next. Even though she has them labeled who's point of view you are reading from. Which honestly was annoying as well. It bounced around from pov to pov so much you got dizzy and it was hard to keep up. Back to the guys though, I didn't care for them. Typical dreamy shifters. Nothing special about them or their personalities. They all "sounded the same" nothing exciting or unique. And I think they where downright stupid sometimes. It took them way to long to draw conclusions or to think of a solution or to even identify the problem. Let alone act on it. I'm like come on do any of you have brains up there? I hated how they all interacted with each other, it felt way too fake. Even their behavior wasn't realistic to four teenage shifter boys who where the most powerful.

Moving on from characters, we come to the plot. Good Lord.
There was no climax. It was basically about a three month period where she meets the boys at school, her dad secretly whips her and abuses her, and she starts falling for the guys. But it's like super immature. It made me want to gag. The council finds out she may be the queen alpha shifter based on a necklace they found in her possession. Then it ends. Like literally there's no action besides the physical abuse. Which is sick.. No character building, no up and down, no mystery, just a complete waste of time. Very lack luster. it's also very repetitive to the point of frustration. this book could have been a thousand times better. She mentioned multiple times that most of the town were shifters. Yet we barely have any interactions with anyone besides the weak villain Kelsey who wants her guys. Literally don't know anyone else in this shifter heavy town. We are introduced to the idea of a council, and that 200 years ago there was an alpha queen, but literally that is all you find out about the subject. All of the guys parents apparently adore our main character, but there is only one scene where we even read about any interactions with their parents or guardians. And it is a brief, hard to believe, fake scene. (With lucians grandma) This author does not have the gift of story telling unfortunately. Good try but unoriginal idea, bad character development, terrible plot, and a ton of grammatical errors as if you just wrote it in a rush and didn't bother reading it yourself.... yeah no thanks. I hope this helps someone. Don't waste your time.
I feel terrible for putting down someone's work, but this was just that awful. I'm sorry there is no other way to put it.

I've had this series on my TBR for awhile and as I was falling behind in my challenge I needed something quick to read. Even better that the trilogy is available on Hoopla. The MC's are all in highschool still and the steam is very low here. The guys immediately recognize the heroine as their mate and I gotta admit the cheesiness levels here are off the charts. As she grows closer to the guys troubles at home arise and this really puts the guys on edge particularly since the shifter elders are being real shady in revealing any information to them. Worse is they are forbidden from telling the heroine anything and yet the drama in their lives (especially by one jealous mean girl) continues to thrive. Super quick read and not bad as long as you can let all the corny parts go.

Callyn is a shy girl starting school in a new town. She is surprised when 4 of the hottest guys in school want to be her friend. Being friends with them is dangerous. If her father finds out, he will beat her. Again. She feels a connection to these guys, but she worries if they find out her secret, they won't want to be around her anymore.

Zeke, Graydon, Max, and Lucian are best friends and shifters. The minute they get near Callyn, they know -she's their destined mate, all of them. Confused because she is human and shifters don't mate with humans, they consult the Council and are told to keep their shifter heritage a secret and wait until the situation can be researched more thoroughly. The guys grow closer to Callyn, but they know she is holding something back. They struggle with the desire to know her secret and keep their own. At some point, the instinct to protect their mate wins out.

This one was below average for me. While I liked the different POV's and the beginning of the story was alright, there were some new elements forced in at the end that felt rushed - almost as if the author changed his/her mind about ending at one book and decided to throw in some unresolved mystery at the last moment. Instead of laying breadcrumbs throughout the book, he/she just dumped a loaf of bread at the end hoping the reader would be hungry.

Interesting

Very interesting story. I am so glad they finally got to tell her about themselves and that she wasn’t upset. I am excited to see what happens between them now that they aren’t a secret.

This book contains all the usual themes:

-Insta-lust
A prophecy (God! Not that trope again!!!)
-Hot guys and an average looking girl
-A hidden, royal bloodline
-Shifters that might as well be normal humans due to underdeveloped world building...
-Dead mother/deadbeat, abusive father.

Yeah... If you want average and generic shifter romance with a dash of RH thrown in for good measure, this is the book for you.

Ohhh the cover. Amazing.
The plot was awesome, as well as the four guys. All of them. Yummy.
On FB S. Dalambakis said that all the grammatical errors will be corrected. So I won't fuss about them at all.
Can not wait for the next book. Definitely a 'must read' :)

This book was painful for me to read. Grammatical errors, wrong words, zero plot line apart from the fact that Callyn is a long awaited alpha queen, cardboard cutouts for characters and shitty dialogue.

I just can't with this book.

I had just finished an amazing book (Epoch) and knew I wouldn’t be fair to any book read soon after that. Knowing that, I chose this book because it’s a silly little guilty pleasure YA book. Any other time, I probably would not have had patience for this.... but I needed something so different and I needed to know what to expect. And it worked! I feel like I beat a reading slump by using this book as a distraction. I don’t mean that as an insult to the book. It was kind of fun. I mean, 4 hot guys in love with 1 girl!!! :) I’m actually a little annoyed that I didn’t realize that book 2 isn’t out yet. I’ll definitely continue reading this series. Not every book has to be amazing, just fun.

Okay

So I hate feeling mean but this was... not good. I love the concept, shifters? Bring them on. But the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Almost the whole book is written in passive voice and it really starts dragging and taking you out of the book. Honestly most of the book reads like a journal entry ‘we did this today then went here and it was a lot of fun’ a lot of telling not showing.

The plot is there, I just think the author either needs to do an overhaul with a content editor or maybe get some more constructive critiquing partners?

I have to admit this book was... interesting.
I liked the story but the writing was not really to my liking. I struggled with the phrasing and the change of point of view every two minutes. So it was really hard to get into it. I'm gonna keep going with the second book but I'm definitely not excited.

The abuse storyline is quite well done though, Callyn's reluctance to talk about it and her reaction when males approach her were right on point.

So 2/5 because I failed to really grow attached to it and to the characters.

Magic

One word magic.

Don't get me wrong there is need for improvement, but it took their ages and made it real.

You see most times authors make their teen character react either like their 12 or like they're 40. I liked how it took real insecurities and didn't take everything at face value and brought the parents involved. Most of the time it seems authors forget that their characters are young.

So though there is great need for improvement in story development and piecing events together. The personality and soul of the story grabbed my attention.. So much that 2 hours later I was done with this book and am now waiting for the 2nd installment.

Good work. I'm interested. Can't wait for the next installment.

Callyn Silvers is just waiting to be done with school hoping to leave her home when she graduates. With the new move she is doing much the same but she doesn't go unnoticed, she catches the eye of Zeke Montgomery, Graydon James, Maximus Anderson and Lucian Harris. She is in danger though and the boys want to protect her but there are rules that need to be followed. Can they wait or do they need to act now to save their mate?

This was just okay for me. Had a hard time with the fact that Callyn is abused and continues to get abused and the way it is handled makes no sense to me. Was a great idea, I am curious how it ends.

SPELL CHECK IS NOT EDITING!!!!!

It was a good story, but the amount of grammatical and word errors is freaking ridiculous. I swear it's like this book was written on a phone and the author just let autocorrect pick the words. The amount of times to, too and two were mixed up alone was probably close to triple digits. Plural words don't require apostrophes unless they're possessive. Fill is in fact a word but the likelihood the author meant "It just fills right" is slim to none. I didn't see a single misspelled word, but deciphering what she meant from what she wrote was at some points like trying to read a foreign language. Do you remember when you were a new reader and you'd come across words that you didn't know and figured out the approximate definition be the words around them in the sentence? That is what reading this book is like. And you know what if people are being charged for your work then it's your responsibility as a writer to produce quality work. Would you accept a car with square wheels or flat tires? Would you go to a restaurant order steak and be okay with the waitress bringing chicken instead or worse bringing you rancid meat? No, you wouldn't, so explain to me why people should pay for a book with grammatical error and mixed up words that we taught our kids about in elementary school. Just an fyi too means also, two is a number. These are not in any way shape or form things that should need to be explained to a professional writer.

Here's the kicked on this, the part that makes the poor production of this work a real tragedy, she has a really good plot. It's interesting, once you decipher what she's trying to say it's a story that makes you want to continue turning pages. Story wise, the biggest issue is that some of the male characters aren't distinctive. The only one really distinctive is Grayson, so it could get a bit confusing on the other three about whose point of view I was in and I had to scroll back and check a few times. As they're different people their thought patterns, viewpoints and just the way they look at the world should be unique and distinctive, especially with this being written in rotating first person points of view. And if the author had invested in an editor or even found an experienced critique group this would have been corrected long before it had a price tag on Amazon.

Editors exist for a reason, big name publishers would not employ editors if they weren't a necessary part of the publishing process. They're ultimately businesses driven by the bottom line, even if they do produce stories we admire, because of this they aren't going to pay people they don't need. If you are going to self publish, you are taking on the responsibility of finding the people to do the jobs necessary to produce quality works and that's more than just a talented cover artist. I'd rather read a book with a crap cover and a good editor than the opposite and seriously I can't be the only person who feels that way.

While I'm curious to know what comes next in this series I'd really like to see Dalambakis put the effort into her work to produce clean copy and honestly I'm not sure I'm willing to purchase the next in the series if I'm going to be disappointed when she doesn't.

The book was a good first stab at a book but Dalambakis really needs to go back through books 1 AND 2, and I'm predicting 3 will need the same touch, and do some editing. Both of the currently released books in this trilogy read like the finest draft of the book where you just get everything down on paper, or on the screen, the thing is, you are suppose to come back and go through the book many more times after that. You flush out the characters and give them more depth, you smooth out the scenes, you work out the inconsistencies. You shouldn't have a character ready to sob in one sentence and the very next sentence have her beaming with joy and emotional 180s like that were rife in both books. I get wanting to have the guys evoke an emotional shift or Callie wanting to smother down emotions but you have to properly transition that.

Dalambakis also does a lot of telling the reader what is happening rather than showing them. Like the scene where Max's mom is introduced when he walls in and finds her in the living room:
"I unlock the front door and make my way into the living room. 'What's that smile for?' my mom asks. I have a stay at home mom, one who almost always nags me about getting my haircut. I would, but I know it annoys her, so I don't. Plus, the ladies love it. My mother is tall and in her forties. She has black hair and brown eyes, but I get my coloring from my dad. My mom likes to say I'm a mini version of him. She's not wrong."

Now consider it this way:
"Sliding my key into the lock the tumblers turn smoothly and I step into the cool embrace of our living room. 'What's that smile for?' my mom asks, break from her usual greeting of 'No hair cut today, huh.' As a stay at home mom the playfully nagging greeting has been her usual one since I was old enough to get my own hair cuts and realized my longer locks drove mom crazy. It's an added bonus that the ladies love my tresses. My eyes find Moms brown ones. Her brown hair is tied back in a loose ponytail and she is using every inch of her tall frame to stretch for a book on the top shelf of the bookcase in the back of the room. 'Already suffering from old age shrinkage' I tease reaching up to retrieve the book for her. She is only in her forties but what kind of teenager would I be if I didn't give my mom a hard time once in a while. Brown eyes that mirror my own glare back at me before softening as I hand her the book. Our eyes are our only similarity, I get my coloring and everything else from dad. Mom likes to say I'm his 2.0; she isn't wrong."

Tweaking the passage this way puts the reader in the scene so they can imagine what is going on. Side note, I couldn't find Max's physical description anywhere prior to this scene. I think it was forgotten. I have no idea what Max looks like.

As for the story itself I found the guys really creepy in the beginning in the way they forced themselves on Callyn demanding she stay by their side and throwing a fit when she wouldn't let them drive her home or pick her up when she literally just met them. I also couldn't believe all of the adults were like ah she is being beaten at home but eh what can we do? Just wait it out. Um, no. Definitely not. Callyn shouldn't have told the guys about the beatings until after the last one because there is no way the guys shouldn't have told adults once they knew and there is no way adults shouldn't have gone go human authorities. Also all of the attempts at teen talk was cringe worthy and the guys don't sound like guys in the first book when they are pining away, they sound like a teenage girl pretending to be a teenage guy.

This has potential, but the story should really be gone over several more times before it can be something great.

Reverse harems are totally in right now and I am loving it! I am a sucker for a paranormal romance then when you make it a reverse harem you pretty much have a guarantee that I will be interested in it. I already have quite a few and have found so many that I would love to read. Unfortunately my bank account keeps screaming at me to stop buying books, while I don't listen to it to often I will admit if I but all the reverse harems books I want I would be broke in about 10 minutes flat.

After search for a few reverse harem books I came across Royals and realized it was the first book in a reverse harem trilogy. That fact alone had me, then when I read the book description I realized that it was a shifter reverse harem and it was also young adult. So that description just hit my major buzzwords and I knew I had to grab it.

Royals is Dalambakis' first book and the book was good for a first time author, there were some problems with the dialogue but overall the story was enjoyable. There were some hard-hitting issues, multiple povs, a touch of magic and even a multiple plot lines. The book is short but the story got its point across and I was entertained throughout the story. While I knew where the story was going one of the things that made me enjoy the book was the characters and how they interacted with each other.

Callyn is the main characters and she isn't like most young adult characters. They are generally shown as physical strong, feisty, smart, tough and so on. Callyn is in a tough predicament, her weaknesses are shown and she has very passive behavior, she doesn't want to cause waves. However Callyn is a survivor and she doesn't want to cause trouble because she generally and deeply cares for people. That's her major thing, how incredibly nice she is and how she manage to stay strong in such a bad situation.

They way the guys and Callyn interact is adorable, I just wish the dialogue expressed that a little bit better. I got a sense of the plot and I am curious as to were the rest of the series is going. Yes I will be getting the other two books in the series because for reasons that are beyond me I really did enjoy the book. I am looking forward to more shifters, magic and more of Callyn and her mates.

DNF @ 6%

Usually I wouldn't leave a rating on a DNF but I had to make an exception for this, so the rating is purely for the writing in this case and is not a comment on the plot given I didn't get that far.

Amazingly I made it through the prologue, with my favourite section as follows:

"A quick look around, and she realizes she came out on the complete other side of the castle. The marina. This is why the queen told her to take the passage. The queen gave her coins as well. She was told to leave the country." (p2, 2%)

Obviously, I am being sarcastic. It's immediately obvious the author isn't a fan of commas OR connectives and consequently the writing is SO stilted.

Another favourite section, this time from the first chapter:

"They look quickly around the room and head in my direction. They take up the table in front of me. The classroom is set up like a lab. The tables are long enough to seat three people at each. There are drawers that house the chemistry equipment. In the back, in locked cabinets, are chemicals. The chairs are wooden stools. I keep my head down and peek up at them." (p5, 4%)

That's an average sentence length of 8.5 in that paragraph compared to the 'recommended' 15-20 word sentences. According to Mike Markel in Technical Communication(2010); "a series of 10-word sentences would be choppy." Well Mike, if you ever need an example of text that fits the definition of "choppy" I think this book might just suit.

Sorry for the level of sass in this review but the writing really needed some editing before publication and I'm surprised it's been rated as highly as it has. Maybe the plot is amazing, I wouldn't know. Unfortunately there's no way I'm going to get any further than 6%.

Also I will acknowledge I am particularly put-off by short sentences, it's something I have always been sensitive to although not usually to the point of literally not being able to continue with a book. If you read those above paragraph examples without any qualms you'll likely get through the book just fine, let me know if the plot is any good.

A solid YA read

Callie has been dealt some hard blows; some figuratively, some literally. Her mom died when she was 7 and life went downhill from there. Her father started off ignoring her but it didn't stay that way. When he focused back on her it was with fists and fury. This abuse kept them on the move. She has months to go before she turns 18 and not long after that till graduation. If she can just make it that long then she's free. A new school brings new challenges, and this one is no different. Except it is. Her 1st day draws the attention of 4 shifters. Only they can't tell her what they are. The Council has forbidden it. The same council has decided to abandon her to her abuse claiming not to interfere with humans. But, what if she's not human? Will that bring safety or more treachery?

Yes, they are all in high school but no the main focal point is not teen drama. Hallelujah. In fact, this book deals with a very hard subject, abuse. Callie's dad is a violent alcoholic who physically abuses her. Her finding the support she needs to make that change is where that book delves. It actually does a very good job of it. If you push, there will be a retreat. They have to reach out for the help that they realize will be there. It's not something forced and you can't rescue everyone. There are some deep subjects hidden here and I'm delighted with the way the author handles them. Much better than some authors I've come across. The back story and rest of the plot is done rather well, too. There are a few typos, some grammatical errors and punctuation issues but nothing that yanks you out of the book.

Callyn is the new girl in town. She's quiet, hoping that no one notices her, at school and at home. But Zeke, Graydon, Maximus, and Lucian take notice from the very first moment. Their animals all identify their mate. Why? It's unheard of that a shifter would mate with a human especially four of the strongest shifters from the best families. What makes Callyn so special?

The theme is common enough among the genre but the characters were likable. I listened to the audiobook, so I don't have the same complaints about editing that other readers have. I will say that Laurel Schroeder is not my favorite narrator. She needs to realize that there is a difference between reading words on the page and narrating a story. Still, it sounds like it may be easier to listen to this book than read it. The story was a bit repetitive, there could have been less recapping and more progress made. I'm hoping that this first book was a 'set-up' and that the action really takes off beginning in book two. Callyn is too meek so her character arc will need to be steep for her to step into her role. This should be easy enough considering the circumstances. Common sense was overruled a time or two for the plot concerning Callyn's father. Hopefully, that will no longer be an issue. I don't do well with contrivances. My biggest issue is the council. As a council shouldn't their voices be equal? It seemed that one man ruled them all. Also, are they supposed to be wise or have they been corrupted? They seemed to be held in high esteem yet their actions were lacking. This will need to be addressed. It has potential, hopefully, it plays out.

Callyn has had an abusive home life since her mother dies 7 years ago. She had no hope and no friends. But when her father moves her once again, she meets 4 incredibly hot boys. Graydon, Luke, Max, and Zeke. She thought they would never like her. But she couldn’t have been more wrong. Turns her she is their mate, all four of them. And she’s also human, which is unheard of to mate with a human. As their friendship and tension between them grows, they all start to fall in love with her. And her with them. But what will her abusive father do once he finds out? And how will Callie react to not having one, but four shifter mates? Only time will tell.

This book was pretty good. There was some grammatical errors that king of got on my nerves, and the writing was kind of choppy. And the whole shifter aspect of the story wasn’t really there until the last chapter. But I have hope. I loved the relationship between the guys and Callie. The guys were protective of her but weren’t above teasing her. ;) There were many times when I laughed at loud in this book. Max was the prankster, Luke was the thoughtful one, Zeke was the soft and caring one, and Graydon, oh don’t get me started on Graydon. He was my favorite. He was tempered, hot headed, extremely protective grizzly bear (literally). But I loved them all so much. There was a little cliffhanger at the end. Can’t wait to find out who Callie really is! Hope there is a second book :)

Great book

It was in multiple point of view but it there was some spots where the main character was talking to us readers saying things like, “see I told you so” while we read their thoughts. Implying that because they thought something would happen (they thought it) and when the event actually happens they say “see I told you so” in their mind. I loved how the guys instantly felt something for her. It took awhile for her to warm up to the guys and tell them the truth that her dad physically abused her. Thankfully it never turned sexually. She is also getting bullied at school from mean girls who are jealous of the attention the guys are giving her. It was a bit confusing that the prologue happens more than a century before, it kinda make me think that she was that baby but it doesn’t seem plausible. I really enjoyed the book. There were tribulations that she had to go through and the guys couldn’t do anything, it broke my heart. Reading each of their views, made me feel more connected to the characters alongside with me feeling more connected to the story. It just opens up the whole story that we wouldn’t normally be privy too if it was just one characters point of view. Cant wait to find out more about her possible shifter side. I hope her dad gets what’s coming to him! Glad biker granny already thought to watch the house while they were at the hospital. That made me laugh abit. Can’t wait to read the next books, thank god they are out!

4.5/5

Callyn is new to town and is trying to stay under the radar. With her mom dead and her dad acting different since her death, she doesn't want to draw any attention to herself. That all changes when she meets four boys at school and she quickly realizes how much better her life is with them in it.

The boys are shifters and as soon as they meet Callyn, they all know that she's their mate. Though they want to do nothing more than bring her fully into their lives, the Council of Elders forbid them from interfering too much in her life because of their prejudice against humans. But when the state of Callyn's home life is revealed, will the boys follow orders or protect their mate?

I LOVED THIS BOOK! Callyn is so full of life, even though her home life really sucks. The boys are so protective of her and I love it. Callyn anf Graydon's relationship is GOALS and I love how they fight with each other and hug it out afterwards.

The only thing that bad thing about the book is the occasional spelling errors. It's nothing bad but the author has a problem with homonyms. For example, it'll say since instead of sense, to instead of too, little things like that. It's not that big of a deal for me and it doesn't happen too often so I mostly ignored it.

I highly recommend this book.

(P.S. there's some child abuse so be warned)
