Caught Up in a Cowboy is book one in the brand new series, Cowboys of Creedence by Jennie Marts. I have read several of Jennie’s books and never fail to fall in love with her characters. I was especially excited about this new series and it most definitely did not disappoint.

Rockford James and Quinn Rivers had grown up together, their ranches neighboring each other. They were high school sweethearts, each other’s first loves, first everythings. They knew each other so well, they could finish each other’s sentences, always knew what the other was thinking. Rock had an early on talent for ice hockey. As soon as he strapped on his first pair of skates, he knew it was where he belonged. So, it wasn’t a surprise that he was offered a hockey scholarship. He can blame it on being a dumb, immature kid, but his ego was bigger than his brain. He thought he had the world by the tail. That he was more important than this little town he grew up in, and that bigger things awaited him. So he left the love of his life behind when he went off to college.

Quinn had loved Rock with everything she had. He owned her heart, and then he broke her heart. She was young and stupid and thought she was getting even when she had a one night stand. She thought she could make him jealous and that he would come back. But instead, she ended up pregnant. That was nine years ago. Now she had an eight year old son, Max, who was the best thing in her world. He made it all worth it. She still lived on the ranch with her Dad and brother. Max’s father wants nothing to do with them. That’s fine with her. She thought she was doing fine, until Rock came back, bringing with him all those old feelings she thought she’d gotten over. It turns out, that she’d never really be over him, never really stop loving him.

“They said that forgiveness could set you free. Whoever the elusive ‘they’ were. But had they had their hearts broken by the guy they thought they were going to spend the rest of their lives with? It sounded so easy.”

ice hockey

Rock is now in the NHL and is one of his team’s best players. But he’s been injured and sent home to recuperate. He’s not that same kid that left here nine years ago. He has always known that giving Quinn up was the worst mistake of his life. Now is his chance to get her to forgive him, maybe give them a second chance. While getting to know Quinn again, he also had the chance to get to know her son, Max. He was a fantastic kid and he fell in love with him as much as he already was with his mother.

“You still have it, you know. No matter where I’ve been, or what stupid decisions I’ve made, my heart has always belonged to you.”

cowboy

As Quinn and Rock spent time together, Quinn was slowly able to forgive Rock. But what happens when he’s able to go back to the team? Is there room in his life for them? Or will he leave them again, just like before? Now it’s not only her heart she has to think of but her son’s as well.

What a great start to this series! Little Max kind of stole the show for me. He was amazing. Rockford was everything you could hope for in a cowboy/hockey star. Sexy, swoony, sweet, especially with Max. But also he has the temper to go with it. Don’t cross him and ESPECIALLY don’t hurt the people he loves. Quinn is doing her best to hang on, raising her son, helping with the ranch. She had long since given up on finding love again, especially with Rock. Will these two get their second chance at love? Or will this just be a short reminder of what they could have had before real life returns? I really enjoyed this and can’t wait to see what comes next with this series. I loved both of these families and the ways the two ranches have come together. I especially hope to get some glimpses into Quinn and Rock’s lives in future books!

3.5 Second Chances Worth The Wait Stars
* * * 1/2 Spoiler Free
This is my second read of Jennie Marts and it won't be my last. She has taken the second chance troupe and given it a sports/western spin... with a woman worried to let herself love again.

They were young... and he made the mistake of thinking he was all that and a bag of chips when it came to starting his Hockey career...

He left her high and dry.

She was heartbroken, acted out with a one night stand and came away with the love of her life... her son. The father is out of the picture, her young love is back... but for how long...and should she risk her heart again...

A strong start to a new series by Jennie Marts.

A cowboy who is a hockey player? It’s like I’ve gone to heaven!

When this author has a new cowboy read, I’m elbowing my way to the front of the line. Rockford and Quinn bring love and family once again in a sweet second chance that brought so many happy surprises…

“Nine years ago, Quinn Rivers had given him her heart as well. Too bad he’d broken it.”

Rock and Quinn’s history was long ago but Rock, older and wiser, realized early on what he so callously threw away. With another chance to gain back what he lost, he was going to do whatever he could to get Quinn to forgive him. He missed his friend. He missed his lover….

Their trips down memory lane were sweet and showed how close they were before they fell in love. And made the loss of that love mean so much more. Time hadn’t stood still and Quinn was not alone anymore, not that Rock was fazed at all. He was so natural with Max, it was easy to see he cared about both of them. Max is Quinn’s world and everything she does, and hopes for, has him front and center. She is afraid to go down that road with Rock, even though she really, really wants to….

This was a second chance romance with an old love mourned, a friendship rekindled and a new love story to fill all the hurts. While things may have circled around and around a bit, that didn’t take away from the feels of this sweet, light, more than a cowboy, read. ~Diane, 4 stars

You like cowboy and you like hockey players? Why choose when you can have both with this book ;p

Rockford James and Quinn Rivers have been best friend since they were very young and became sweetheart and lovers in their teenage years. But when Rock was recruited by the NHL, he let it go to his head and decided that his small town girlfriend wasn't cool enough for him. Heartbroken, the young woman try to console herself with a one-night stand that might have seem like a mistake but it gave her the best thing in her life: her eight year old boy, Max.

Rock is temporarily back in Creedence because his coach ordered him to take a break after a challenging match that left him with a concussion. Even before coming back and seeing Quinn again, he knew letting her go was the biggest mistake of his life. He can't help thinking of all the what if. And noticing just how much she's still like the girl he fell in love with will only make him remember it and long for the complicity they had before. Can they be friend again ? Is asking for more is out of the question ?

"They needed to get out of her bedroom. She could try to push the memories away, but the ghosts of them as a couple-as young lovers-were thick. As if their sould were floating in the air, taking up all the space and making it hard for her to breathe."

I finished this book yesterday and I'm still thinking about how much I loved it ! Can't tell if I like the story or the characters best because both were so amazing ! I wanted to be friend with Quinn and Rock, they both have beautiful soul and personality. And their romance gave me heart fluttering and excitement. It was my first time reading this author and I can't wait to read another one of her books. I can't find a single thing I didn't like about this one. The writing style was great, with witty comebacks and good banters, and I knew right from the start I would enjoy this story because the hero own his mistakes. He knew the break-up was his fault, because he didn't try enough to make it work with Quinn and he never tried to find excuses or blame her for it and he apologized for his previous behavior. With that, he won my respect. I just fell harder seeing him bond with little Max. I liked that Quinn didn't let bitterness changed her and even if given their history she was quick to jump to conclusions, it was never in an ornery way. This author found the way to hook me right from the very first page and I adored how she put little cliffhanger at the end of each chapters. I love when a book make me sigh and laugh at the same time.

"Was that...?"
"Yep."
"So she's his...?"
"Yep."
"And is she part of Max's...?"
"Nope."
"That's what I thought." He handed her his half-empty tub of popcorn. "Here."
"What's this for?"
"I figured since you were finishing all of my sentences, you might want to finish my popcorn as well."

Caught Up in a Cowboy was such a fun, heartwarming story!
I loved how quickly we jumped in and I found myself completely captivated by Quinn and Rock. Their back story, their family, and their run ins all had my full attention. And with moments of sexiness, heartache, and laughter all tied together, it made for such a charming book!
It didn’t matter how many sparkles of heat shot through her or how ridiculously muscled his arms were or how his offer of peace between them filled her heart with a secret longing of hope, the cold, hard truth was that he wasn’t back. Not really. He was back only for now.

Right from the start, Quinn and Rock met back up. It was hilarious, yet at the same time there was a lot of other emotions mixed in too. You see, Rock broke Quinn's heart 9 years ago. They were High School sweethearts who planned to spend their future together. But when Rock pursued his hockey career, he left Quinn in the dust. And with Quinn feeling bitter and upset, she had a one night stand which left her pregnant and alone. As years passed, Quinn and Rock ran into each other but it was always a tense and brief hello. But not anymore. Rock suffered an injury while playing for the NHL and he's back home on an extended break.
A thick chunk of regret settled in his gut, and he knew letting her go had been the biggest mistake of his life.

Through a fun turn of events, Rock found himself back in Quinn's life. And the chemistry between the two of them was definitely still there. You could feel it every time they were near each other. Even if Quinn still held her anger in a death grip, ha! And while I loved watching the tension between them build, I also loved how easily their friendship restarted. It was filled with honesty, teasing and it all felt so simple and heartfelt. Ohhh and I loved, loved, loved how quickly Rock and Max bonded. Max is Quinn's eight year old son and he was seriously the most adorable child ever. He made me laugh and smile so much. I loved how much heart he brought to the story! And while I watched them all interact, I started to imagine what they would be like. As a real family.
He picked up a loose strand of her hair and twisted it between his fingers. “You were the best part of my life, and for the past eight years, I feel like a piece of me has been missing. And that piece is you. I want you back in my life, Q.”

So while Quinn and Rock grew closer, I got Quinn's uncertainty. She'd been left and heartbroken by him in the past. And everyone knew that once Rock was healed, he was heading back to the NHL. Quinn tried her hardest to protect her heart, but Rock was persistent.... I loved that about him! Just you wait and see all that he does, sigh. But Rock definitely had some growing up to do and I loved how much he progressed as the story unfolded. He gained so much wisdom and insight being back home and I was so proud of him. It left me with a lot of faith, and I could easily see Quinn and Rock getting their happily ever after. Well that was until a different variable stepped in......the suspense was a lot of fun! I can't say anything more, other than I was impressed with how it all played out!
He gingerly set the necklace down and raised his hand to cup her cheek. “You still have it, you know. No matter where I’ve been, or what stupid decisions I’ve made, my heart has always belonged to you.”

Caught Up in a Cowboy was such an adorable story! There were a few cheesy moments in the beginning, but it was definitely warranted. All I can say is birthday party and pirates.....it made me laugh and smile. And if you're a fan of families playing an integral part in stories, you're in for a treat. I absolutely loved both of their families and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that their brothers will get their own stories down the road. So if you love second chance romance, with family thrown in the mix, definitely check out Caught Up in a Cowboy! It was such a cute story and I'm looking forward to the future books in this series!

This was a cute story of Rock and Quinn and their second chance at love. Add in 8 year old Max from a rebound hookup after Rock took off for going pro in hockey and you have a heartfelt romance between these 3.

It was full of big smiles, anxiety, sadness, and most important - love!

Quinn is a hard working, strong woman determined to give her son the life he deserves. After having her heart broken by Rock, shes unsure if she can trust him or not. When he comes back around nursing an injury, her head says stay away but her heart is pulling him back in. Quinns life was thrown upside down when Monty walked back in, threatening the life of her son is not going to get her to back down.

Rock’s back in town nursing an injury before returning to his day job as a professional hockey player. He never intended to cross his former flame. Before long he finds himself dressed as a pirate and trips to bookstores and even the ER. Fighting the old injury and feelings become more than he can handle. Determined to show Quinn that she and her son mean more to him than anything he puts it all on the line and gives her his heart.

I really enjoyed watching Quinn and Rock reconnect, they both harbored feelings from high school, seeing them mature and develop was great! Rock and Quinn had a great range of emotion from first couple of pages, sometimes it was combustible from anger and sometimes it was a slow burn of passion. When Monty entered the picture, and the anger all focused in on him. I am curious to see what happens between her secondary characters, both families have intriguing characters that I would love to see get their own story. Overall, Caught Up in a Cowboy is great novel, a little slow to start but definitely picks up and delivers.

Overall, this was a sweet, light read. Quinn is a single mother living at home with her father and brother raising her son, a product of a one-night-stand nine years ago. She's been left behind by her childhood sweetheart, Rock, who left their hometown to pursue a career in hockey. Usually when Rock visits home, he gets the cold shoulder from Quinn; this time, however, he finds a way to weasel himself into her life for a bit. He's been injured during a game and is forced home to recuperate. Theirs is a heartwarming story of second chances and learning to forgive old hurts.

I'm not exactly sure what I was expecting when I picked this up, but I was pleasantly surprised. There's hardly any language in it, which, I have to admit, threw me off a little. If y'all know anything about me, it's that I like my down and dirty romances, and this was definitely not that. There's talk of church potlucks and blessing the food before a meal, so if that's not your cup of tea then prepare yourself. Because of this, I was surprised that there were a couple real sex scenes, and they were actually written pretty well.

My main complaint with this book is the ending; I found it a little abrupt, considering how much time is spent on the characters waffling between what they want and what they think the other wants and what they think is the right thing to do; Rock and Quinn's indecisiveness drove me a little crazy at times. So when Quinn finds herself in court and defending herself as a mother, I really wanted to see more of what that looked like. So when that only took up a small bit and the rest of the ending was her and Rock finding a way to be together, I was not very impressed. (This is why I had to mark down to 3.5 stars).

Overall, if you're looking for something light, sweet, and family-friendly, then this is a great find!

This is an entertaining book that I just loved. Rock is a flawed, but very real cowboy that left the ranch to play in the NHL, while leaving Quinn, the love of his life behind. Quinn never recovered from the broken heart he caused, when Rock is sent to the ranch to recover from a serious concussion.

Adult Rock regrets the immature actions of teenage Rock and has tried to become a better adult and make decisions not motivated by selfishness. Unfortunately, that leaves Quinn caught in the crosshairs once again while she worries about her wounded heart and young son.

This novel has a bit of everything, from fun antics, romance, and family angst. I found myself turning pages just as quickly as possible. Fans of the genre will want to put this one at the top of their TBR list. This is releasing just in time for summer weather and is perfect to read on the beach or by the pool.

What a heartwarming second chance romance this proved to be, complete with a delightful eight year old, cowboys, a conman, injured hockey player and plenty of angst and turmoil to make it a real page turner - loved it! Rockford James has returned to his family ranch to recuperate after being badly injured  whilst playing ice hockey in the NFL. He left town nine years ago, rarely returning and left behind his high school sweetheart, Quinn Rivers. Heartbroken, soon after he left she had too much to drink and a one night stand that left her pregnant and she now has a lovely eight year old son, Max. Max is the one good thing to come out of the whole debacle and she loves him dearly. Now Rock is back, even if it is only for whilst he recovers. As their love rekindles, can they put the past behind them and move on to a future together? What about the father of Max? He's always denied Max is his offspring, but what happens when he comes back into their lives?

This is a story of family, friendship, and second chances. However, sometimes some people really don't deserve their second chance but working out who does and doesn't can be perplexing, especially when you're unsure of their motives! The characters are well developed and the story an emotional roller coaster with young Max as the focus of many indecisions as everyone strives to do their best for this special young man. There are incidents, accidents, attacks and even some time in court in this thoroughly enjoyable, emotively written story which is liberally sprinkled with both turmoil and humour. I have no hesitation in highly recommending it.

I requested and was given a copy of this novel, via NetGalley, with no obligation. This is my honest review of the book after choosing to read it.

This is an incredible story of first love, heartbreak, and forgiveness. A second chance romance that will tickle your funny bone and warm your heart at the same time.

Rock is a hockey playing cowboy (what's not to love?) who returns home to find that while some things have changed the intense feelings he has for Quinn have not. If anything the attraction has grown stronger than ever. Now Rock just has to convince Quinn he's willing to do whatever it takes to get another chance.

I highly recommend this one.

Rockford James left his small hometown and high school sweetheart behind when a full ride scholarship and the NHL came calling. Nine years later, he returns home to recover from an injury that sidelined him.

Quinn Rivers, in rebound defiance, had a one night stand, with a complete loser that resulted in her son Max. She stayed on her family’s ranch to raise him. She lost her mom in grade school and was raised by her dad and brother, both overly protective.

Quinn and Rock grew up on adjoining farms. Quinn and her brother Logan spent a great deal of time with Rock and his brothers. She and Rock were grade school best friends then high school sweethearts.

When Rock returns home and runs into Quinn, he immediately knows he let the best thing to ever happen to him get away. He misses the friendship and connection they used to have and decides he’s going to do whatever it takes to win back the girl.

It’s slow going as he tries to earn her trust. He’s kicking himself for giving her up so easily and she’s kicking herself for giving him up without a fight. As they reconnect and discover there’s something still there, hovering in the background is Rock’s short term stay.

Predictable story that should have been shorter. Easy, light afternoon read. Minimal angst with one predictable twist that you see coming a mile away. Interesting side characters.

*UPDATE: Okay so I can’t quit a book, So I finished this morning. Even a book that isn’t my favorite. No change on the rating. Predictable but with a HEA after some drama. Would not read again.

DNF. I wanted to love this book. It had second chance romance with your first love, cowboy/hockey player, single mom. But ultimately after reading to page 100 then skimming I had to put this book down (the 2nd time in my life i DNF a book). I really tried, but I could not get into the characters, the writing style, and flow felt off. I couldn’t invest in the characters or story. It was painful. Apologies to fans. Just not the book for me.

I'm a bit of an anomoly in that cowboy heroes are a bit hit or miss for me, but because this hero was also a professional hockey player, I figured it was worth the risk. And I was right! Caught Up in a Cowboy was my first read by this author, and I was completely charmed by the easy writing style, and the engaging storytelling.

I connected with Rock and Quinn quickly - it was almost impossible not to with that fun, quirky, and adorable opening scene. As far as second chance romances go, the chemistry in this one was spot on and I completely adored watching Rock win back his woman...and her son. Because hot hockey hero + adorable little boy? Y'all I am powerless against that combo.

I did get a little exasperated with the conflict in this one. I felt like the same issue kept repeating itself for a period of time and I was frustrated by the lack of communication or fight between Quinn and Rock. It felt a little predictable and it went on just a smidge too long for my taste, but luckily it in no way impinged upon my enjoyment of the inevitable happily ever after. I got all the swoon I was looking for, and so it was completely worth the bumpy ride.

In all, I was wholly satisfied with this sweet little love story. If it is the first in a new series, I will definitely be back for more! ~ Shelly, 4 Stars

Rock gave up on his past to score a brighter future. Quinn was a casualty of his pride, that left him with a ton of regret and her with a broken heart. But circumstances change and so do people. Will the maturity he lacked in the past, help him regain the heart he desires most? How do you mend a broken heart? By proving you deserve a second chance. Ms. Marts tickles the funny bone as she sets out to warm the heart. Caught up in a Cowboy shows the value of forgiveness and the healing power of love.

Oh! I just love cowboy romance, but mixing the cowboy with a hockey player?? Truly amazing!!!! I adored these characters. Rock was such an intense character and it was great to see his journey. I love Quinn and Max. To have the heartbreak and tough years alone, they deserved the outcome of this HEA. It was just a beautiful, funny, hot, and heartfelt story. I'll be looking for more from this author! I'm so glad to have read it.

Rock and Quinn were childhood best friends and then High School sweethearts,, until he left for College and a NHL career. Breaking her heart.

So yes he did leave and yes they should at least have tried to make it work. But then they were kids and idiots. It's more like he should not have broken it off and she should have fought for him.

Right so they meet again years later. He is nursing injuries and taking it easy.
She is a single mom (with the cutest kid!) and her ex, omg, omg I just wanted to hit that no good piece of work.

They are so meant to be, cos they should always have been together. They try to work things out, becoming friends, becoming more. Everything is easy and nice.

Until the drama, which I shall not mention, but arghhhh I wanted to kick some butt!

A nice romance about second chances. Some are jsut meant to be!

Narrrator Abby Craden
I liked her voices. And what I really liked is that even though I really upped the speed it still sounded really nice. Even when I upped it to 2x cos I was dying to know what was going to happen and I wanted to get to the end at once!

Sometimes the things we do as teenagers, the exaggerated self-importance, the risks we took and the hearts we broke come back to haunt us for a very long time. Rock and Quinn know that truth very well, they’ve lived it every single day since Rock left his small town and the girl he loved far behind in his quest for his dream, for fame and perhaps to prove himself. Now, nine years later, Rock has come home to recuperate from an injury and his future is very much up in the air. With his professional career, certainly. And with the woman he loved long ago and never ever stopped loving. He knew he’d made the biggest mistake of his life when he didn’t take Quinn with him on that dream of his. Now he has to figure out if he can repair the damage done and finally get the girl he loved back where she belonged all along, right at his side.

The first story in a series always carries a lot of weight and expectations for me. It will decide if I continue with a series or if I stop at the first one. Caught Up In A Cowboy made that choice very easy. Quinn and Rock quite easily captured my attention and my emotions – and young Max was just the topping on the sweet deal that brings us into their world. It takes a strong man to admit when he’s messed up, it takes a wiser man to do something about it and fix the mistake. Rock might have acted foolishly as a younger man but he knows what he needs now and watching the interactions between Rock and Max simply melted my heart. Quinn is a strong woman, but one who made a choice based on pain. She cannot regret that mistake because it brought Max into her life. She never stopped loving Rock no matter how hard she tried to convince herself it was the wiser thing to do. Watching Quinn and Rock find their way back together was emotional, fun, steamy and a real joy. I had fun with this story and now I need to know what comes next. If you’re in the mood for a satisfying romance then I’d recommend Caught Up In A Cowboy, you just might find yourself a new series to enjoy as well – I know I have.

This is the first book I've read by this author, and I can honestly say I'm now a true fan or her writing. The story started off strong right out if the gate, the visual of Quinn was absolutely hilarious as seen through Rock's eyes. The authors ability to bring life to the characters and their surroundings is a gift, using her well crafted words to paint a perfectly clear picture in my mind's eye made the story even more realistic. As second chance romance stories go, Rock and Quinn made this one unique through the depth of the history that brought them back together, then held them there.

The dialog and banter was humorous and priceless at the same time. The characters were flawed, yet drawn realistically so it was easy to see them clearly as only human in their decisions and mistakes made. Rock's sincerity and humility totally pulled at my heartstrings. It took him some time to realize his selfishness, but once he recognized what he'd lost through his past actions based on that mentality, he humbled himself to right his wrongs towards Quinn. For a big tough hockey player having no problem baring his sole to the love of his life stole my breath away.

The story ended by saying it was only the beginning...I hope this means that this is the beginning of a series for these families and this town.

Oh my, what's not to love about a hockey star/cowboy. I have fallen in Love with Rock, watch out Quinn. Oh, I guess it's too late for that. Rock has returned home with an injury from the NHL, when he sees his old flame from high school, Quinn. He soon realizes the mistake that he made years ago and now to convince Quinn, that this is the real thing.

Loved these characters!! Rock is just so hunky and a very giving person. Quinn is a single mom but very independent and her son, Max is her number one. Max just steals the story, I just fell in love with him.

This story will leave you smiling, ok I did shed a tear or two. I highly recommend this book.

This book was a fun, easy read that takes place in my home state (YAY!!!). I fell in love with the easy friendship between Rockford and Quinn and then I fell even harder when I felt the immense chemistry between them! Can't wait to see if Jennie Marts will continue this series with Rockford's brothers or Quinn's brother...either way I will definitely read them!
Thanks to Sourcebooks for the ARC!

Caught Up in a Cowboy was a quick read with a few twists and turns along the way. Rock and Quinn, were high school sweethearts, who broke up when he went to college but are reconnecting nine years later when he returns home to recuperate from a concussion. He’s a pro hockey player that left her behind or did he? She’s a single mom to an eight year old and the dad has never been in the picture after a one-night stand when she was trying to make Rock jealous. She and Rock live on neighboring farms in a small town in Colorado and she’s still close to his mom and brothers.

Rock and Quinn still have chemistry and are learning to communicate. They can read each other’s signals like they’ve always done but is that enough? Family drama with her dad and brother along with her son, Max, and Rock’s family, makes things interesting. When Max’s dad, Monty, enters the picture to connect with his son and maybe Quinn too things get ugly fast. Monty is a loser through and through but has an excuse for all his actions or lack of them. He’s not as nice as he’s portraying himself or is he? His son hangs on every word but what about the adults, especially Quinn? Max and Rock have a nice relationship but I thought it would have headed in another direction. Max is too serious and sometimes acts wise beyond his years.

There are family and friends, ranching, small town gossips, sadness, anger, tears. hurt, injuries, secrets, laughter, happiness, reminisces, memories shared, chances taken, romance, loving and love. Watching the interactions between the characters had their highs and lows and my emotions were engaged more than once. There is a nice flow to the story but there were hints the story would go in one direction but then went another. There is a happily-ever-after in the offing but the book ended too abruptly for me and I didn’t get the closure I was hoping for. There were a lot of loose ends which I hope will be addressed in the next book in the series, You Had Me at Cowboy.

Marts is a new to me author. I look forward to reading more of her books.

Favorite Quote: He could almost feel the combination of the mountains and the ranch working to heal his body and soul. There was nothing like being home.

I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I've been wanting to read more cowboy romances and when I saw this new series by Jennie Marts, and lets face it that beautiful cover, I thought this was it.  I've never read (or heard of) this author before and I was excited to try her.  Sadly, this book was a bit lackluster for me.  That's not to say I didn't enjoy it but it was a little forgettable.

Rock and Quinn were high school sweethearts, he decided that he was going to go off to be a big NFL superstar and had no room in that life for sweet hometown girl Quinn so he broke her heart and left her behind when he went to college.  She had a one night stand after that and she got pregnant and has been back home raising her daughter by herself ever since.  Now Rock is back in town after a bad injury to recover and seeing Quinn next door again makes me realize all he threw away and wants back.

As you can imagine this was a cute story.  There's an adorable kid, two people that clearly should've never broken up reconnecting and all the small town charm you can expect from these stories.  But like I said before, it felt a bit too simple for me.  Nothing stirred me enough to make this an impressive read or one that leaves me dying for more from this series.  It's entirely possible I will pick up the next one and give this author another shot, though.  In the end, I wanted Quinn to make Rock work a little harder to get in her good graces.  I love a good groveling and Rock had it a lot easier than I wanted.  But still, this was a cute read and loved the small town vibe of it.

After being on the receiving end of a cheap shot on the ice Rockford James heads home to the family ranch to heal and get his mind right... and possibly re-unite with the woman who stole a piece of his heart years ago. But that maybe easier said than done, since he chose his love for hockey over his love for her, and it broke her heart, and ruined their friendship. Minutes after arriving in town he comes face to face with his girl, when he spots her alongside the road, pedaling a child's bicycle, in a pirates costume... he knows there is a good story there, and if he is lucky maybe she will enlighten him!

Through the years Quinn Rivers has secretly kept tabs on the man who owns a part of her heart, the day he left her and their impending future for a career on the ice she was heartbroken, and unsure she'd ever be able to forgive him for it. But when he shows up back in town, ready to mend fences, and steps up to play a pirate for the day, her resolve starts to slip a little, and forgiving him doesn't seem so far off. He wants to rekindle their friendship, and maybe more, but she has her reservations about the "more" part!

Caught Up in a Cowboy is a delightful second chance love story that is destined to melt the hearts of romance readers, with it's heartfelt and humorous story line you just can't go wrong with this one! From the first page Ms. Mart's endearing characters will lure you in, and have you completely mesmerized, they are a can't miss duo! Their banter will have you giggling, their intimate moments will make you blush, and their tender moments will have you fighting back the tears... and it's all downright amazing! Quite an impressive start to a new series, it had everything I look for a in a romance story, and so much more, now I can't wait to get my hands on the next one. Highly recommend!!

Caught Up in a Cowboy is a second-chance small-town romance about Rockford “Rock” James, a former NHL player forced home by injury who returns to Creedence, Colorado and must reckon with the high-school sweetheart he left behind, Quinn Rivers, now a single mother.
Reading this felt like settling into a cozy chair by the fire: Jennie Marts blends unexpected elements, rodeo and hockey, ranch life and baby bottles into a story that’s both playful and earnest.

The book’s heart lives in its characters: Rock’s bruised pride and stubborn charm, and Quinn’s resilient, fiercely protective tenderness (and the real-world challenge of raising her son, Max, after a one-night decision). Marts gives Creedence a vivid texture, town rituals, cowboy talk, and the odd hockey-obsessed quirk and balances heat with humor so the romance never feels one-note.

I appreciated how Rock doesn’t swoop in and erase Quinn’s agency; instead, their rebuilding is gradual, with awkward, sweet, believable moments that made me root for them. Pacing leans toward character work rather than dramatic twists, so if you want high-stakes rescue plots this may feel gentle, but if you crave warmth, regret turned into growth, and a hero who learns to cowboy up emotionally, this delivers.

Overall, I found the novel comforting and emotionally satisfying: it’s earnest rather than flashy, and the small-town details and parental stakes give it depth. My review rating: 4 out of 5. The writing and characters are engaging and the premise, cowboy meets hockey hero in a town with a baby and history feels fresh and well executed; it loses half a star only because some readers may wish for sharper external conflict or a messier, less tidy redemption arc.

Caught Up in a Cowboy (Cowboys of Creedence #1) by Jennie Marts
4 stars
M/F Romance
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.

Rock was young and impulsive when he decided to leave his long time girlfriend for the big leagues of hockey. He knew that he wanted to pursue that and also knew what that would entail... travel, girls, fame and fortune. What he didn't realize was how much he was going to miss Quinn. She was the love of his life and despite his impulsivity, I think deep down, he thought she might wait for him. When he learns that she didn't, he throws himself in to his career. When he's injured, he heads home to heal and reconnect.

Quinn has always loved Rock. When he chose hockey over her, she was devastated. Despite making some less than ideal choices in friends and men, she wound up with Max. He is a smart, energetic kiddo who loves his family, but misses not having a father. Quinn wants to make sure Max has the life he's always dreamed about, but at what cost?

When Quinn and Rock reconnect, Quinn realizes how much Rock has grown up. He truly listens to her and to Max. He's genuine and really wants to show Quinn that he wants her and Max in his life. When Max's father comes back in to the picture, it threatens to break apart Rock and Quinns tenuous connection. Can Rock truly walk away? Can Quinn let him?

I think my biggest complaint about this was the ending. It was very abrupt for me. However, overall, this was an enjoyable story and I really liked the secondary characters.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

This second chance at romance really shows what happens when a person acts on impulse and lives to regret the decisions they made.

Rockford James, an up and coming hockey player, decides to tackle life as a pro hockey player as a single man rather than taking his long time girlfriend with him. You get the sense that he regrets his decisions almost immediately but when he comes home he finds that his girlfriend has moved on - and gotten pregnant by another man.

Quinn was devastated when Rock left her when he went pro. Althougth she made a bad choice in men, she wound up with the best thing in her life - her son Max. She's raised Max on her own for the past eight years, his father denying paternity and leaving town almost immediately after he was born, she knows that she can stand on her own and doesn't need to rely on any man to support her.

When Rock comes home to recuperate after a bad injury on the ice, its the first time since the summer he left that they have spent any time together and its almost as if he has never left. What she doesn't expect is how much Rock seems to care for Max. He listens to her son, takes an interest in what makes him tick, and wants whats best for him.

When Max's father makes a sudden re-appearance in their lives, Rock has a hard decision to make. Does he stand his ground and continue his relationship with Quinn or step aside to Max what he's always wanted: a family with his real father?

Both Rock and Quinn's characters are complex and well-written. I like the way the writer incorporates Max and his feelings into the main aspect of the story.
