Parents to adorable six-year-old Will, life is as sweet as the cakes Wendy bakes for a living.
But it wasn’t always that way.
Jon and Wendy met after both their parents were killed in a coach crash in Scotland.
After they married, all they wanted was a child of their own.
But after experiencing problems conceiving, Jon learns he has a low sperm count and that while not impossible, having a baby might not be on the cards.
Embarrassed and ashamed, Jon convinces Wendy that her weight is the real reason why they can’t conceive.
Soon, their happy marriage is in jeopardy, and when Wendy finds a text on Jon’s phone from a female co-worker promising him a weekend to remember, she is convinced Jon’s having an affair.
Angry and hurt, Wendy ends up in bed with a rugby player, Adonis, at her friend’s wedding.
So when Wendy discovers she is pregnant, she doesn’t know who the father is.
Unsure what to do, when her best friend Tina suggests she keep the issue of paternity secret, Wendy agrees.
Time passes and Wendy’s worries are all but forgotten until one day she runs into Adonis.
When he shows up at Will’s school soon after, Wendy is convinced that he’s stalking her.
But it’s an overheard conversation that finally shatters her world, and Wendy has no idea if her happy family can ever recover…
It's lovely to get away from a thriller and read a woman's contemporary book full of emotions.
This reminded me of something I'd watch on Jeremy Kyle. Whose the daddy. I think that's what puts it into reality for me as 'stuff' like this does happen. Gladly not to me!
The two people came together after a tragic event that happened. They fell in love and all they wanted was a baby. But tests proved that his sperm count was low.
Like many men it affects their manly ego pride so he felt more comfortable blaming his wife.
Then the worse happens, she comes across a text message on his phone from a female. Believing the worse she thinks two can play this game!
Ending up pregnant.
But who is the daddy.
One mistaken night of passion with a stranger.
Out one day with her child she bumps into "him"
I found this an easy book to get into and read. Easy to digest and keep tabs on.
The mistakes we make, the secrets we keep, eventually come back and bite us.
My thanks to Endeavour Press for my copy to read via Net Galley
Thank you to NetGalley, Pamela Fudge and the publishing company for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
If you love you chicklit and romance stories with a twist and feel of real life then this book is for you.
I didn't fall head over heals for this book but I did like how Pamela writes so effortlessly making the book easy to read. With dialog that feels like it is happening around you and characters you can instantly imagine as friends.
This book focuses around William a five year old, his mum Wendy, his dad Jon, Williams godmother Tina. Wendy and Jon are happily married but Tina is hiding a big secret from Jon.
Wendy and Jons story starts after both of their set of parents are killed in a coach crash in London. Finding solice and understanding in each other they fall in love, get married and have plans of starting their own family, although things are never that easy. Experiencing problems to conceive Jon goes to the doctor and discovers he has a low sperm count not wanting to believe he is to blame Jon turns on Wendy blaming her for being over weight which she isn't. Wendy is frustrated and annoyed Jon has to go on a business trip, Wendy thinks Jon is having an affair after reading a text message wrongly. Goes to a friends wedding and gets too extra friendly with one of the guests. Tina tells Wendy to keep the confusion over Williams dad a secret and Jon getting super excited about the pregnancy sees Wendy keeping her secret for years. While in town Wendy bumps into the Adonis from the wedding and things spiral and unravel quite quickly from there.
A heart warming tale about things that can go wrong in a split instance from a stupid decision. Although I didn't find myself having a emotional connection with this book which is why I only gave it 3 stars I am looking forward to reading another Pamela Fudge book again as I really did love her writing style. I would urge everyone to give Pamela Fudge books a go. I don't think you'll be disappointed
I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley for review.
Wendy and Jon are happily married but they have problems conceiving a longed for baby. One day Wendy reads a text on Jon's phone which makes her think he is having an affair and hurt and angry she has a one night stand with someone she meets at a friend's wedding. Shortly afterwards she discovers she's pregnant. Should she tell Jon the baby might not be his? In the end she decides not to because she really doesn't know.
When Will is six years old the man she went to bed with reappears in her life and Wendy thinks he may be stalking her. Seeing him again makes her wonder whether she should tell Jon or not or perhaps have DNA tests done to confirm whose child Will is. Or should she leave well alone?
What follows makes an interesting and at times poignant story of mistakes and misunderstandings. I like Wendy as a character though I wasn't so keen on Jon as he blames Wendy for their difficulties conceiving even though he has been told the fault lies with his low sperm count. I also liked Wendy's friend Tina and the little boy, Will, who is a real charmer. This is an enjoyable light read with plenty of humour and the feel good factor.
Wendy has a terrible secret, she is happily married to Jon with a lovely young son William, but she is not sure that Jon is the father. After discovering that Jon had a low sperm count their marriage hit the rocks for a while as he couldn't come to terms with the fact it could be his fault and blamed Wendy for being overweight. Then after reading a text of his from a work colleague Wendy is convinced that he is having an affair and so she had a one night stand with a hunky rugby player..... and nine months later William appears.
Convincing herself that Jon is the father their marriage is back on track until she bumps into the rugby player.... and not just once.... is he stalking her! How can she keep her marriage together and what if Jon find out?
A good light read although predictable, my main criticism was the amount of times the past of Jon blaming her was repeated.. we got the message the first time! A good easy beach easy however
Its an easy read of its genre bland but sweet characters with the odd flaw. A little angst or jeopardy all wrapped up in a reasonably well written formula
Oh I am in a quandary. Least Said by Pamela Fudge is a good story. There were elements of Least Said that were told really well but there were other parts that kind of annoyed me.
Least Said is the story of Wendy and Jon. They have a perfect marriage and are the proud parents of a perfect little boy. However, behind the picture perfect existence is a secret. The secret being that Will, their son, may not actually have been fathered by Jon but the product of a one night stand. And like all dirty secrets the truth – if revealed – will alter the course of the lives for this family.
So far so good, right? I admit, the premise for this book is really good and the last third of the book is really well written and gripping. However, earlier in the book I found myself getting really frustrated. The details of Wendy’s affair were just banged out at every opportunity. It felt like Fudge laboured the point until it got difficult to feel any sympathy for Wendy. I found myself telling the book “yes, I get it, she had an affair and it could destroy her life. Blah blah blah.”
Maybe it was just me. Maybe I need to have a bit more tolerance but I felt that the point was over emphasised far too much.
Besides this bone of contention, the story is pretty good. Fudge nails the feeling of paranoia from Wendy who is convinced that her past is going to catch up with her mixed with the innocence of a child that is being protected by his parents.
Give Least Said a read and join in the debate.

John and Wendy have been married for a while. They are really happy with their son Will. But John has a low sperm count and during a heated argument when John blames Wendy for being overweight causing their fertility problems she sleeps with another man. Who is Wills father? Is it John or the one night stand. Tina is Wendy's friend she knows what's happened and is always there to support her. One day Wendy bumps into the one night stand and is convinced he is stalking her and wants Will who she thinks he looks like! The story shows how lies and secrets can harm a relationship. I really good story about families and friends
There's a potentially good story here but it's not fleshed out as much as it should be. Jon and Wendy are not my favorite characters due to both their words (his) and actions (hers.) There's some ethically questionable behavior here that deserves a more expansive treatment. THanks to netgalley for the ARC.
