It seemed such a sweet idyllic situation. Three children orphaned and living with their old aunt - how could it deteriorate into ritual, murder and madness?
I read this many years ago in 1981, and I thought it was amazing. Quite disturbing, but with an underlying beauty. The beauty of innocence, I guess. I generally think there is little time in life for re-reading books... as there are too many others to be discovered, but I did re-read this one, 26 years later, and none of my sense of admiration for it has changed. Still disturbing and ultimately fulfilling.
