Cullan Hudson is the co-author of the supernatural thriller The Mound. He is also the author of Strange State: Mysteries and Legends of Oklahoma, a nonfiction collection of strange-but-true tales from the Sooner State. Many of the tales included in this collection were investigated personally by the author. His latest book, Stranger State: More Mysteries and Legends of Oklahoma, continues that exploration of the Sooner State’s many amazing tales.

Additionally, Hudson's short story, "The Iron Door: Curse of the Sierra Jumanos", was included in the 2005 Red Dirt Anthology and his op-ed pieces have been read across the country.

A meticulous researcher, Hudson has, in one reviewer’s words, "left few stones unturned in his search for the truth."

While his interest in the paranormal stems from personal experience, Hudson remains a true skeptic, demanding the rigorous application of logic to any investigation.

Hudson is currently working on Shards of Darkness, a collection of short horror.

I HIGHLY recommend this book for ANYONE, regardless of your interests. You should just buy it. Buy right now. I mean it. Now.

I'm forced to add that the above is all in jest. Apparently humor of the subtle sort isn't something modern readers grasp well, as one individual demonstrated in a comment to this review that I deleted. If words are not accompanied by attendant emoticons (to wit, "smilies"), then how will anyone ever know we aren't being serious? Look forward to my new novel in which I will liberally pepper the following: j/k! OMG! and :D

Whether you came across this book in search of esoteric or paranormal Oklahoma history, or if you’re (like me) an aficionado of the strange and fascinating in any location, you’ll love Cullan Hudson’s STRANGE STATE. In this volume, Mr. Hudson has compiled what is likely the largest collection of strange tales from his home state, and has added further dimension to these stories by visiting many of the locations in question personally, interviewing locals who have experienced the strange and the weird, and he has even offered up a few of his own observations to supplement the historical record and oral accounts. Though he remains open minded on the subject of the paranormal, Mr. Hudson does not, by any means, accept these stories at face value, without first examining them with the critical eye of a professional. What this book did for me was inspire a desire to know more and, perhaps, one day visit some of these locations myself. If you enjoy the thrill of a good mystery, a spook tale, or tales of the strange and weird, treat yourself to this book. You won't be disappointed.

I’m from Oklahoma and I enjoyed this book. Often books like these can be dull to read, something about the flow of how the writer gives the information but this book had great flow and was an easy read. The author didn’t exaggerate and tried to give any sides of the story, which I loved. If a story didn’t seem legitimate he would say so. This however did not take away from the mystery and the what if’s. I didn’t know there were so many alien abduction stories and Bigfoot sightings in Oklahoma. Ghost and hauntings I knew their were quite a few of those because I have already read about several. I have no complaints about this book. It was great.

An interesting collection of local ghost stories and legends local to Oklahoma. While some entries were short and sweet, others go into detail about origins, how long eye witnesses have seen haunting, and the author even walks to some spots and gives you first hand detail of what the various areas look like now. If you’re into paranormal investigations, this book might be a good addition to your collection.

A book that covers almost everything of the bizarre in Oklahoma history. From Bigfoot sightings to tales of zombies - yes, zombies, this book is "the book." Witty at times, always honest, and sometimes truly unanswerable, the stories from over a hundred years of history will delight and mystify.

As a life long Oklahoma resident I found this book fascinating. Would definitely recommend. Can't wait to visit some of the sites in this book.
