Vampire Peyton gets into trouble. A lot. When he offends an entire East Coast clan of vampires up Boston way, he decides he needs a place to hide out for a bit. So he goes back to his Texas roots and calls upon his best friend, Cody Knight, to help him stay safe. Cody runs the Midnight Rodeo, Darque and Knight, and happily agrees to let Peyton come along, even assigning him a bodyguard.
Grizz is a bear shifter, big, strong, and maybe a little… well, bearlike. Who better to watch over Peyton and keep him out of trouble? If Peyton gets out of line, Cody figures, Grizz can just sit on him. Grizz has no idea how much work Peyton will be, or how Peyton will invade his heart. The problem is, Grizz is pretty sure he doesn’t need a beautiful vamp complicating his life. Can he and Peyton find their happy place before it’s too late, or will Peyton’s past catch up with him?

Rating: 4.5 stars I am rating this so high because I loved the two main characters, Payton and Grizz. Not to mention it was good that Cody appeared rather prominently in this story as well. I would love to read a story focused on him so he could get his HEA. I was also pleasantly surprised that the drama between Payton and Grizz didn’t last too long. After what Grizz did to Payton I was expecting more angst. All in all, a great addition to the Midnight Rodeo series. I am looking forward to more in the future.
Gross and Peyton was a great pair; they really understood and accepted each other faults and all. I loved how he took his time to calm down , and then accepted Grizz's apology for hurting him unintentionally. And seeing Peyton's fire when the vampires came after Grizz, was definitely a defining moment for the couple. This was definitely a great read.
A bear shifter finds his mate in a vampire on the run. The love story is sweet. Adam's bear is nervous about being bit and Peyton is afraid that he'll be too clingy. As satisfying as this roomates to lovers story is, the other aspects are angsty. Brax is still alone. Cody's demon has left the rodeo. And Thack is also alone. Can only hope that their HEAs are in the second group of books.
Loved this book. I really liked these two characters. Super cute and funny. I liked the look into some of the other characters which I personally want to know lots more about.
When you first meet Peyton and Grizz separately they don’t seem like they would work. But as we get to know them we see how perfect they are for each other. And Peyton sure surprised me.
I like Peyton, but this story seemed a little disjointed. Just when I think I have a handle on what's going on, it twisted but the twist never went anywhere that made sense. Lots of good ideas, just not incredibly well executed.
I’m fairly certain at this point that if something is written for this series, I’m going to enjoy it. In this latest book of the Midnight Rodeo series, Cody’s friend Peyton has found himself in some trouble and has come to the rodeo in order to hide. For extra protection while he’s there, Cody arranges for Peyton to travel with Grizz, a bear shifter who’s perfectly happy as a loner but more than willing to share his space for a little while. The pair hit it off rather quickly and neither man has any problem with getting into the other’s personal space for a little snuggling, whether Grizz is shifted or not, and that soon leads to more than just platonically sharing a bed. When a roll between the sheets leads to an unexpected bonding, things become complicated but when Peyton’s past shows up looking to cause trouble, things go from bad to worse.
I really liked this one; the Midnight Rodeo is always good for a read and the wide variety of characters and types of paranormals ensures that there’s always something interesting to read. In this particular story, however, I really liked how, even with paranormals I was familiar with, there were new aspects to their abilities I’d not seen before. On top of that, Peyton and Grizz were a great pair; they just fit together from the very beginning and I loved seeing how they were around each other. Despite their easy way with one another, however, things weren’t all smooth sailing but that made the story better in my opinion. I liked that even with how easily the men came together there were still problems that needed to be worked through and overcome. Add in a nice bit of butt whoopin’ near the end and this was an enjoyable story that I’ll happily read again in the future.
If you enjoy paranormal stories and/or cowboys, I’d really recommend checking this story out but I’d start at the beginning of the series to get the most out of it.
