This is an absoultly fabulous novel, based on the author's own pet otters and those he studies in the wild. It's a hard back, with beautiful line drawings and . The novel follows Samaki, a wild african otter, from his first tentative steps into the world right through to finding his own territory and a mate. It's sad in places, but unlike a lot of 'animal' books, it doesn't go for the horrible, nature is rough, attitude and when things happen, it feels natural - not added just to make people cry! A lovely read and a bit different to the norm.
