The Intelligent Heart, the Pure Heart: An Insight into the Heart Based on the Qur'an, Sunnah and Mod

Rate this book
The Qur'an and Hadith refer to the heart as an organ of understanding, thinking and feeling. This book begins by examining the 'intelligence' of the heart according to the Qur'an and hadith and shows how science is only now beginning to discover what has been known to Muslims for over 1400 years. Recognizing that the key to Eternal life is a Pure Heart, the second part of the book examines the main diseases of the heart and their cures according to Islam.

We all are in search of peace and fulfillment. This book talks about the tranquility of soul that we are constantly searching and where it actually lies. Our body is composed of earth materials and we also nourish it with food, cloth etc from the earth but where did our soul come from. in the womb of a mother it was an angel who was sent to blow the ruh bringing it from outer world, so the nourishment of the soul is also outer worldly and no matter how much we wana fill it with pleasure and intoxication we can never be satisfied. this book puts a perspective on where satisfaction lies.

in the beginning there are also mention of scientific things which were completely new to me even though it sounded as though i should have known it before. kind of stuff i thought they should really make it know in the school syllabus. and the first thing everyone should know is that it is NOT just a pumping machine.

the author shows correlation between a spiritually strong heart and the growth of iman. the book ends with the common and daily mistakes and sins that we do and there implications on the heart and our spiritual self.

there are some minor things mentioned in the book that i dont agree with. but they dint really conflict at all with the main points that the book was referring to.

in the light of quran, sunnah and modern science this is a balanced book, and i would recommend this book to anyone and everyone. specially to the people who are interested in any sort of psychological study. its a very thin book and an easy read.

"The heart is always inclined towards that on which it has spent the most. If we spend on the material possessions of this world, then our hearts are inclined towards this world. Conversely, if we spend in the way of Allah, the heart will incline towards Allah and seek to earn his pleasure."

"Spiritual diseases of the heart can have a negative impact on the physical heart and indeed the rest of the body. [...] Laboratory experiments at the HeartMath Institute have shown that when people focus on their hearts and activate a core heart feeling such as love, care or appreciation, this focus changes their heart rhythms immediately. When positive emotions such as happiness, compassion, care and appreciation are activated, there is increased production of DHEA in the body, a hormone that fights aging in human beings. If the heart suffers from spiritual diseases such as envy, anger or hate, DHEA production is reduced and the production of the stress hormone cortisol is increased, resulting in aging and reduction of potential life span."

Omw to love, care and appreciate more 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

What a lovely little book. I don't know why but I was expecting a hard going in depth scientific book here. Don't get me wrong, it is scientific. Yet it's an easy, enjoyable read.
There were some scientific parts that I was unaware of which I found fascinating. Especially the cells of a heart and the beating that synchronises when hearts are close together. Then breastfeeding was brought into play. I know my daughter when she was a baby sometimes stopped breathing for a few seconds at a time. When she slept on me we always seemed to breathe the same. It makes sense if our hearts were synchronised.
I really enjoyed reading this and am sure I will go back to it again. I know I will certainly be trying to purify my heart using advice found in this book.

The author discuss the role of the heart as an intelligent component- somethig which is not yet fully discovered by the scientists. Scientific evidents presented in the book are all interesting and new to me. Together with this are verses from quran and hadiths that indicate the function of heart in intelligence.

We might not yet understand the complex function of the heart, but somehow I guess we do realiZe that most often we depend on the heart to show us what's right and what's not. And haa as the title suggests, in the end only pure hearts that can actually help us to decide intelligently. (:

I read this in my early 20s and didn't really gel with it as much as I did now upon my re-read later on in life.

It is very well researched. Loved how the author took the quranic concepts about the heart & brain and combined it with modern scientific research. Also explored the historical ideas around the heart/brain and brought in poetic and philosophical thinking.
The book ended withTazkiyah - Purification of self/heart- self help section and went into details of how one can improve their own heart and ultimately gain closeness to Allah swt which I appreciated ❤️.

I wish the publishers would redo the cover as with most islamic books the cover looks dry and boring even when the content is not. A small book but packs a punch. I took a highlighter to my copy and will be revisting this book again in the future. Loved it.

Just wow! Honestly never paused to think of it like that. Again wow!
Do they teach this in med school or psychology classes?
The heart's profound effect on the self can only be attributed to its mirroring between the body and the soul, one terrestrial and the other heavenly. I didn't even know the heart has it's own nervous system separate from the CNS. And the heart secretes a very powerful hormone called atrial natriuretic factor (ANF), the hormone that regulates the blood pressure and body fluid retention, and maintains the balance of parasympathetic and sympathetic systems. I could go on, but please read this book.

I really enjoyed this book because of the many Quranic quotations in it. Reminds you about Islam and real world connections throughout the whole thing. I also loved that it wasn’t too big of a book. Could read it within 2-3 hours if you wanted!

Excellent Book - 5/5 (have read 2 times now).

As someone currently learning about Islam I found this book to be truly enlightening. I loved the mention of scientific information, as I find often people assume science and religion are to separate entities - polar opposites if you will. I found this book to be beautiful and left a sense of tranquility and peace.

Whether you're muslim or not, I would highly recommend reading this book.
