While the overall theme of these essays are interesting, too many of them seem to devolve into lists of late medieval/early modern female scholars. And while it is very useful to have these lists, reading them are not very engaging. Of particular note are the first essay, "The Education of Women in the Middle Ages in Theory, Fact, and Fantasy," and the last, "Gender and Genre: Women as Historical Writers, 1400-1820," which were much more enjoyable and informative than some of the others.
