The Marines taught former Green Beret Mark Stone how to kill, and a Viet Cong prison camp taught him how to hate. It's another great novel in this series. They go deep into Cambodia, where there are rumors that 3 POWs are being held. They find the survivors, but their plans go awry, leaving them a 200-mile walk out with patrols of all kinds that will attack their small force.
Highly recommend this one along with the whole series. Just perfect men's adventure writing, plenty of excitement that keeps the narrative moving and well done characters.
Word reaches Mark Stone, the M.I.A. hunter, that there is three P.O.W's being held deep within Cambodia for the last thirteen years. Him and his team, Hog Wiley, the ugly Texas merc and Terrance Loughlin, the English commando take along a few anti-communist troopers to get them out. Once they achieve this, they have over two hundred miles to get to safety. Along the way, the team crosses path with an American missionary and six kids who she and a few other missionaries who were murdered by Vietnamese regulars and are ready to kill her.
I would of thought that five books into a series about finding P.O.W's would start to stagnate. Guns, jungles and VC's would just peter out. Not the case. This book was packed full off no stop action from cover to cover. This is the kind of writing that makes a great action adventure novel. The characters grow a little more with each book. No, this is not Hemingway, but who want's that when the lead starts flying? If you want explosive action, look no further. This is it.
Pure, testosterone-fueled men’s action from the ‘80s, when MIA mania was alive and well in the popular culture. Likable characters, gunfights aplenty, and a mountain of shell casings as a band of mercenaries led by former POW Mark Stone venture into Cambodia to free prisoners held by a sadistic Vietnamese camp commander for over a dozen years. Nothing that will go down in literary history, but the book delivers nonetheless.
