Hmm, I didn't like it as much as Dark Frost or Crimson Frost. There is lesser action in here, lesser answers given by Nike but I guess that's for the next book. However Gwen has totally grown here, plenty capable to defend herself and be worthy to be called Nike's champion.
If in the previous books she was treated like shit, in Midnight frost she becomes more of a celebrity, the person expected to protect the students and hold the reapers at bay. The good news is, Gwen fits the role. She is not exactly willing to take the challenge but she did a pretty bang up job saving her friends.

Yea, that was Gwen.

Anyway, a Reaper tried to poison Gwen but she dodged the bullet and the poison was given to another person instead. Gwen feeling guilty and miserable set out to find a flower, a something ambrosia, so that Metis can make an antidote.
That search led her and her friends to another branch of Mythos and eventually to the Eir ruins. The problem is, the reapers are expecting them there, the Pantheon knows that the reapers are expecting them there, but they have no choice.

*Enters the blood abundant action scenes here*

uh. I forgot to finish this review. My apologies.

2 books for the same year? Oh I love you Ms. Jennifer Estep for not prolonging our torture that much :*

OOPS I take that back. Release date moved to August 2013.

Is this the last book?

kidding. I WANT THIS BOOK. NOW. Especially after Logan made his cowardly AWOL. Why did he have to leave? Cos he might hurt Gwen? Ha. Didn't he realize that by leaving Gwen she becomes more of an easy target?
Good thing Alexei is there to *hopefully* protect her.
Basically Alexei is Logan's replacement. shrugs. Not big deal, at least he and Oliver are cute together. Like Kurt and Blaine.

I hope to see more of:
Nyx! I don’t know, I just want to hug her and steal her from Gwen.
Nike. I like her. It’s like she really wanted to help Gwen, to tell her EVERYTHING but the gods won’t let her.

So I think the other gods warned her otherwise she might’ve guided Gwen more.
Vic. I didn’t think a person (or a sword) can be caring and bloodthirsty at the same time but Vic pulled it off.

Oh gosh I’m so excited!!!!!!!!!!

Logan Freaking Quinn.

I'm right there with you, Gwen. Not a whole lot can really beat LFQ, although hanging out with a bunch of flying gryphons comes pretty close!

As if the talking sword and the wolf as a pet weren't awesome enough, the "Stacia really wants one of those" factor was increased with the addition of gryphons. WHY CAN'T I HAVE A GRYPHON??? That Gwen Frost gets everything. Never mind that evil beings are trying to kill her at every turn, because she gets cool toys. And Logan Freaking Quinn. Sometimes life is a trade-off. Danger for all the swag, right?

These books are so much fun. I don't get near enough fun in my book-reading life. I need more crazy adventures with mythical creatures, apparently.
Daphne's black eyes fixed on the dead reapers.
"So," I asked. "How was breakfast?"
Daphne arched an eyebrow. "Obviously not as exciting as yours."

This installment of the Mythos Academy series surprised me. I was happy to see much less repetitiveness of character descriptions this time around. Estep's writing appears to have been been polished up quite a bit, of which I wholeheartedly approve.

I wasn't happy with having to wait SO darn long to see Gwen's my Logan (before you start worrying that I have strange creeper tendencies, I always picture book characters as older than they are), but when he showed up, he showed up in a big way and made the wait worthwhile.

One of my favorite things about Midnight Frost was getting to see everyone pulling together as a team, even more so than they have in the past. Nickamedes has inched his way into my heart, so it was sweet to see Gwen really pulling for him. In a way, this band of misfits has become their own sweet little family and I love it.

I can't wait to see what everyone else has to say about Midnight Frost. Those of you who have been reading along so far, I'm hoping that you'll enjoy this as much as I did. The start was a little slower than I would have liked (which seems to be a weird thing about this series in general), but the second half of the book was great. Those of you who haven't been reading and like mythology and adventure, put this series on your list. It can be fluffy at times but sometimes that's okay - especially when you're having too much fun to care.

I have to say the girl that represents Gwen looks different. I guess its suppose to represent how Gwen has changed over the time. Anyways, the cover looks so cool! I like it.

i know people who loved this series wont like my review... i like the story line of this series but i dont like jenifer's writing style..she repeats a lot of things...even i had to skip 2 3 pages once at a time bcoz i had read those things before...when she mentions statues she says it seem like they r watching her....she has repeated this soooo many times that i m sick of it...whenever grandma comes she mentions jingle jingle and her whole dressing style, her baking, we know all of these things then whats the point of repeating everything....although this part ws better than other parts cuz there ws less repetition....but i missed logsn...i wanted more logan part....

I didn't expect to like this book as much as I did. I have been following this series from the beginning, and this latest installment was such a pleasant surprise. It was almost as if the main character had a lobotomy or has ben taken over by a much more pleasant secret twin. This was a fun, action-packed book to read, made much more enjoyable by the growing maturity of the main character, Gwen. Despite that, it still has its faults, and I felt that it lacked the oomph needed to elevate it to a truly great book.

This is not a standalone. You will be hopelessly lost if you have not been keeping up with the series. In this latest installment, Logan has been in self-imposed exile, punishing himseslf for falling under the spell of the Reapers and trying to kill Gwen in the previous book. As it opens, Gwen is still trying to come to terms with her loss, and trying her best to decide how to solve the problem of Loki (sadly, not the Tom Hiddleston version), while the campus is under constant alert from potential Reaper attacks. Things transpire, and Gwen and her friends are forced to travel to the Colorado branch of Mythos Academy to find a rare flower in order to save the life of an important character. It is a trap. They know it is a trap. It is too obvious, but they have no other choice: there is no other option.

I was caught complete unaware by Gwen's personality change. I have always felt that Gwen was the weakest part of this series; it's especially bad when she is the main character, and the main narrator. This is a great example of how character development...and really, just how a series can improve in general. I absolutely hated Gwen when we meet her in the previous books: she was whiny, she is self-pitying, she is a slut-shamer. I could not see, for the life of me, the attraction that Logan felt for her. Gwen was a deplorable, Mary Sue of a character.

Gwen is a completely different person in this book. There is not one single instance of girl-on-girl hate, there is absolutely no slut shaming. She no longer hates people needlessly, irrationally, for having advantages that she never had. She does feel sorry for herself, sometimes (and given what she's gone through, it is completely understandable) but her Bella Swan moments are rare, and she tells herself to snap out of it as soon as Gwen realizes that she's letting herself wallow in depression.
I was only going through the motions, just like I had ever since Logan had left. More than once, I found myself staring off into space, wondering where he was and what he was doing. If he was okay. If he was cold or hungry or scared or tired.
If he was thinking about me.
After about two minutes of that, I’d shake off my sorrow and get angry at for myself for obsessing about him. Vic was right. I really needed to quit brooding and get on with killing Reapers.
*Claps* That's my girl! Gwen realizes that she has been a weak person, someone not very likeable. I love her self-recognizance; I love that she admits her faults, and that she is willing to learn and grow. She also odevelops empathy, when she sees as aspect of herself in others.
The other kids looked at the girl, but nobody approached her and nobody said anything to her. Nobody gave her so much as a cheerful wave or even a polite nod. The girl pretended that she couldn’t see the other kids deliberately avoiding her, but her jaw was clenched, and her whole body was tense with anger---and pain.
She reminded me of, well, me. Back when I’d first come to Mythos, I’d been that exact same girl—the one standing all alone, watching the other kids around me, hoping that someone would at least notice me.
Gwen still has her spirit. She is still snarky, but I don't find it annoying. Her character growth was a breath of fresh air in this book, and it is my favorite thing about it.

Logan...oh dear. Buck up, man! I just wanted to shake him and tell him to wake the hell up. I think Gwen did it better than I can.
“Oh, quit feeling sorry for yourself.”
Logan blinked. “Excuse me?”
“You heard me,” I said, my voice growing harsh. “Quit feeling sorry for yourself. Yeah, something horrible happened to you, and the Reapers tried to turn you into Loki’s little soul puppet. But you know what, Spartan? Horrible things have happened to all of us now---and more terrible things are in store. So suck it up and get back in the fight.”
Have I said how much I like the new, improved Gwen? Because I do. She is awesome in this book.

The plot is good, it flows naturally, and the action scenes were mostly well written (except for one moment: what's the difference between zigging versus zagging?). There is no purple prose, the writing is on point, and no more descriptive than it needs to be: it is intended for a younger audience, and so I have absolutely no problems with the simplistic style at all.

I am unhappy with the overuse of deus ex machina as a plot device in this book. Too many things happen by chance at just the right moment for it to be believable, and after awhile, it just gets annoying. I also do not like the one-dimensionality of the Reapers. They are purely evil, there is no other aspect of their personality at all. It is the same with the other characters, really, they are either good, or they are bad. It is very black and white, and aside from Logan and Gwen, and the added character of Rory, it doesn't seem like the author bothered to build up anyone's personality adequately at all. The adults are also portrayed as rather stiff and dull, and the talking sword, Vic, really, really got on my nerves.

Also, enough with the baby animals, really. First we have a baby Fenris wolf, and now a baby Gryphon? Enough is enough. This ain't cuteoverload.com.

If you have been following the series, I strongly recommend this book; otherwise, I don't know if I would still recomment the series to a new reader. One good book might not be enough to redeem the annoying quality of Gwen in the previous 4.

Gwen Frost is back and she ain't afraid to kick some Reapers' asses!

I was provided with an advanced electronic copy of this book in return of an honest review. This review will be also posted on Smokin’ Hot Book Blog closer to the release date.

As always, at the beginning of my Mythos Academy Review, my great respects go to Jennifer Estep for creating this shamelessly enjoyable read, that will be one of my favorites young adult series forever. She’ve done fantastic job with Midnight Frost, and I feel miserable thinking that Gwen’s shenanigans will end soon. There’s only one book left! Killer Frost will be released in March 2014 and then I’ll hope for spin-off.

Anyway Gwen is back and she’ s not afraid to kick some Reapers’ asses. She’s heartbroken over what happened between her and Logan, and despite the fact she’s moping and brooding, she’s doing everything she can to find artifacts and kill Loki.

Now, that everyone know she’s Nike Champion, she’s a priceless target for every Reaper and so are her friends. Between classes, trainings with Oliver and work in Library she’s trying to find a way to save the world. Mix it with heartache, nightmares and bloodthirsty Vic, Gwen has to grow up really fast. Which she does.

Midnight Frost is different than rest of the series. It’s a book about growing up, adventure and picking up the pieces of Gwen’s life.
I loved everything, the storyline was intriguing and fast paced, characters amusing and good written. I’m looking forward to 6th installment.

Can I just take a moment and reflect on the awesomeness of Jennifer Estep? Her writing is without a doubt phenomenal. I loved this series so much, that the minute I got it in my hands, I read it that day within a few hours.

Plot: DA BOMB BABY! Fast-paced, action packed with loads of excitement. I can express in words how much I adored this book. It has plenty of on the edge of your seat drama, never letting up on the reader.

Love: FINALLY! My spartan, how I missed you!! Let me tell you that they moment you’ve been waiting for is here. There is so much hotness and love that I must fan myself.*fans self* GAH! There are moments where you get angry at their stupidity, moments where you swoon and moments where you down right fall in love all over again. But believe me when I say that you will be satisfied.

Mythology: Ms. Estep keeps the reader fasten in their seats with lots of mythology and back round history. The reader learns more about Gwen past and what the future has to hold for her. I really enjoyed learning about other creatures, power trips and of course watching friend working together.

Midnight Frost is an epic tale. Sweeping me off my feet, I can not wait to read the next book. Perfectly done, Midnight Frost is an delight!

I liked this book but not quite as much as I liked the previous book in the series. This book takes Gwen and some of her friends on a trip to a different Mythos Academy location and as a result, I think that the book had a bit of a different feel. I think that the other thing that made this book feel a bit different is the fact that Logan wasn’t around for much of the book. Don’t worry, he does play a part in this story but I missed him a bit during part of the book. This was still a very solid installment in a series that I have been really enjoying.

Gwen and her friends must travel to one of the other Mythos Academy schools to find a rare flower needed to save the school’s librarian after an attack meant for Gwen goes wrong. While there, Gwen meets a girl with whom she shares a bond and learns some things about her heritage. This book had all of the action and Reaper attacks that I have come to expect from the series along with enough God and Goddess interactions to keep things very interesting. Oh, and did I mention the griffins? Yeah, I love the griffins.

Tara Sands has done a remarkable job in bringing this series to life. I think that her voice fits the character perfectly. I love how consistent her character voices have been throughout the series. I listened to this book for hours at a time and feel that the narration added to my enjoyment of the story.

I would recommend this book to others. This is the fifth book in the Mythos Academy series which is a series that really should be read in order. The next book is the final book in the series so I am incredibly eager to see how everything will be wrapped up.

Initial Thoughts
I didn't like this one quite as much as I liked the previous book in the series but it was still a very enjoyable listen. The feel of the story was a little different with Logan absent for much of the story and a change in location for the bulk of the book. Gwen and her friends must travel to one of the other Mythos Academy schools to find a rare flower needed to save the school's librarian. While there, Gwen meets a girl that she shares a bond with and learns some things about her heritage. The story was rather exciting and I thought that the narrator did a fantastic job of bringing the book to life.

I was so glad to get back to reading a new book in my favoritest series EVER! I absolutely LOVE it!

So, in this installment of the Mythos Academy series, not surprisingly, Gwen is almost killed...AGAIN! This time someone attempted to poison her...but no such luck (for the reapers, that is). Instead, someone close to Gwen (if you can call it that) is poisoned in her place. Now Gwen must save this someone before it's too late by going out to find an antidote in a very dangerous place. And this is just putting it simply. There was so much action and awesome fighting scenes and the MYTHOLOGY and the Logan FREAKIN Quinn! *swoons* I adore him! He is seriously the best book boyfriend ever in the history of book boyfriends!

I honestly loved everything about this book! The voice of the story I absolutely love! Vic and Nyx...what a pair! They are SO cute! And Vic makes me laugh every time he opens his mouth. Another couple that is cute: Alexei and Oliver. I love these hotmazing guys! They're just great friends to Gwen!

And the twists and turns you don't see coming? Awesome! There's this new character we meet, Rory. She is very intriguing and I kept wondering what her deal was because, seriously? Rude much? Anyway, prepare to be shocked!

And Gwen is so sassy sometimes, I love it! She doesn't take crap from anyone, and she is very loyal to her friends! And the thing with the Gryphons...whoa!

This book was just perfect from start to finish and I cannot wait to read what the reapers have in store next for Gwen and her friends!

And yet another fantastic novel in the Mythos Academy series... a novel that brought a tear to my eye on a couple of occasions...

Gwen is closer to discovering more artifacts and more about her family in this adventure and we, once again, come to grips with the Reapers pouncing all over. Logan is back because he needs to support family - can't say who or why or I risk causing spoilers - and him and Gwen need to iron a few things out...

I love Nike and I found a new Goddess just as endearing and I also fell in love with the mythical creatures involved in Gwen's travels.

I love Jennifer Estep and how she captures my heart with these stories, I look forward to the next book with an eager anticipation!

In Midnight Frost we see Gwen really starting to come into her own; all of her hard work and training is finally paying off. She can now slay Reapers with the best of ‘em and she’s also quickly becoming the Pantheon’s greatest defense in the looming Chaos War. The learning curve has been steep and unforgiving but Frost is finally proving herself worthy to be called Nike’s Champion. In this installment we learn more about Gwen’s dad’s side of the family, a new character named Rory is introduced and our favourite Spartan gets a much needed wake-up call. But, as much as I love these books, the further along in this series I get the more predictable the story seems to become. This will in no way cause me to quit the Mythos Academy novels but I do wish that Estep would stray from her go-to format of Gwen gets attacked by Reapers in the library, kills them, investigates and then wraps-up with a new mission from Nike.

One of the things that I’m enjoying the most about this Young Adult series and that I don’t usually come across in my typical reads is the quirkiness factor. What I mean by this is that Estep’s able to get away with certain things that I’d otherwise normally roll my eyes at. Take Vic for example, I absolutely adore his snarky one-liners but if I’d come across a talking sword in one of my Urban Fantasy books I may have stopped reading then and there however, in this instance it totally works! Gwen has also become something of a celebrity on campus so the students invented an app to keep track of her whereabouts at the Academy; I thought the idea of a Frost tracker for my iPhone was one of the coolest things ever. Again, in adult fiction this would come across as creepy but in the Mythos world it’s super cute.

I like how each installment features a different mythological creature; previously we learned about Black rocs, Fenrir Wolves and Nemean prowlers but this time around it’s Gryphons that are front-and-center. Gwen seems to have a knack for making allies out of enemies and once again it pays off. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Frost with her own little mythological army by the time the final battle rolls around. I really enjoyed comparing the North Carolina Mythos Academy to the one they visit in Colorado. At times it felt like they were two sides of the same coin; one evil and one good what with the two librarians and then of course, there’s Rory. I thought that Miss Forsetti was a great addition to this series’ lovable cast of characters and her nickname for Gwen is priceless!

Logan continues to be well… Logan. He’s MIA for most of this novel because of what happened in Crimson Frost but Gwen does get the chance to voice her feelings where he is concerned and she’s not nice about it either. I loved watching her put Mythos‘ best fighter in his place; sometimes the truth hurts! Hopefully this will be the last of their relationship woes. Towards the end, Frost gains an important weapon in the war against Loki and I think things will really begin to heat up in Killer Frost. As far as I know, Jennifer Estep is contracted for six books so the next installment may very well be the last. Even though this wasn’t my favourite installment, Midnight Frost provided me with hours of great entertainment and really, that’s good enough for me!

Actual Rating 3.5 stars

I was pretty excited to read this book and well I may have been somewhat disappointed. This book is good, don’t get me wrong, but it doesn’t even come close to measuring up to the awesomeness of Crimson Frost or even Dark Frost.

The one thing I love about this series is that even though some of the characters can come off as clichés, you love them; you just cannot not love them. They are all well developed and they all have some role, be it big or small, they aren’t there just for the sake of it. For starters, Gwen actually has great friends, she isn’t popular or anything and doesn’t really have that many but they are always there for her and stand up for her. She also has a talking sword which I am not sure counts as a friend but makes for an awesome character (and my favorite as well).

Gwen is a great female lead herself. I always enjoy being in her head because she is such a strong character. She isn’t a particularly skilled or strong fighter but she is determined and that’s why she makes such a good fighter. It really was amazing to see how far along she has come from the first book. From being confused about what she had to do, she is determined and tries to find a way. I also like how she actually considers other people’s opinions even if she doesn’t agree. She also makes good decisions and tries to reason things out. What’s not to love about her?

I was glad we finally got to learn more about Gwen’s dad in this installment. He has always been a bit of a mystery to me and sometimes I wondered if he even existed. It was a relief to learn about who he was and I must say, I was surprised, that possibility never popped into my head.

One of the things that really bugged me in this book was the idea of Nickamedes and Metis getting together. I love both of the characters but the idea of them getting together bothers me. I know my annoyance is kind of childish but to me it just makes things too perfect.

The other thing I did not like was the lack of Logan (this is just me being a fangirl). I have read Spartan Frost so I know what’s going on with him and I am not pissed at him, it’s just that throughout most of the book I was waiting for Logan to appear. I wanted Gwen and Logan to talk things through because they are a great couple, they should be able to get over this hurdle.

I don’t think I noticed this in the other books but in this one, I was surprised by how much talking there was before the battle. I kept on screaming for them to fight and kill the reapers while they were distracted but that didn’t happen.

I get the feeling that this book is acting as a bridge between this one and the last one, because the plot, in all honesty just wasn’t that interesting compared to the ones in the previous books. That is not to say I didn’t enjoy it, I did, but I was hoping for a lot more.

This ending is great and wraps the book up nicely but all I can think about is the next book. I long for it and I wish I didn’t have to wait until next year.

(if there are any errors forgive me, I may have been slightly hurried with writing this)

Midnight Frost by Jennifer Estep
Book 5 for the Mythos Academy. Best read as part of the series. YA urban fantasy.
The adventures continue. The Reapers of Chaos are stealing artifacts. It’s up to Gwen and her friends to save the artifacts and fight off the Reapers. But they must be careful as there are traitors in their midst.

A pulse pounding adventure of suspense, friendship, fighting for good, and learning your own value.
I enjoyed the camaraderie and the gryphons. I look forward to the next and last in the series.

Loved the setting for this one and the magical creatures. I felt like I was up on the mountain in the cold with the heroine. I think this one is my favorite Mythos book so far.

Midnight Frost picks up right where the previous book in the series left off -- with Logan still gone and Gwen still pining over him. Poor gypsy girl. And, of course, since the Reapers were yet again unsuccessful in their attempts to take down Gwen in Book 4, naturally they are still after her.

And they just keep popping up... And a surprise attack leads Gwen and her friends to Colorado... And some strange girl keeps giving Gwen the evil eye... And someone seems to keep following her...

I was fond of the newly introduced character and hope to see more of her. Same with the gryphons... Perhaps with an air battle against Vivian and her roc... Something a little different from the typical Vic vs. Lucretia, on-foot sword fight. Because that is getting so old it's exhausting.

Yawn.

Gah... I practically skim those pages because I already know what it will say. Vic will say something snooty, Lucretia will snap back, Vivian will tell Gwen she will die, and Gwen will parry her blows... Until Vivian jumps on her roc and flies away.

On that note, I will say, too, I am getting insanely bored of Vivian's escape route. Every time Gwen encounters her, the reaper escapes the exact same way -- on the back of her roc. That is getting crazy old... I think it is time to change it up a little. Or, at the very least, be realistic in the sense that Gwen would be smart enough to recognize this pattern and have a plan counter it. I mean for real.

Also, I thought it a little strange that they made the trip they did, knowing what they knew about the trip, without taking more people. I mean if you know you're walking into a death trap, wouldn't you want to bring a freaking army along? Or at least better battle tactics? When the bad bitch duo shows up, why make small talk? I mean if I have a sniper-quality archer with golden arrows, and I know an attack is imminent, I am posting that chic somewhere high with a good vantage point that she can snipe from. And giving her the green light. Shoot to kill. And then, and only then, speak. "Later, Viv."

I will say, though, I loved the change in scenery to the Mythos Academy branch in Colorado. It adds a whole new layer to the book. I really like when authors do this. It kind of exercises your imagination a little and makes the story more interesting as you visualize all new scenes.

All in all, it was an OK book in what used to be an at least good series. But, I think some major differences are in store to shake things out of redundancy if it is to once again be satisfying and engaging readers.

It's been a while since I read book 4 in this series, but after only a chapter I felt like I was catched up again on the events and could enjoy the story. Jennifer Estep uses the right amount of recap to make you feel like you don't miss anything. The story starts of a bit slow, but after that the pace improves and there is action, adventure and more. Someone gets poisoned and Gwen and her friends have to go and find the antidote. This series can be a bit cliché at times and predictable, but I just love it. The story is engaging and Gwen her determination to help her friends and do what's right is admirable. Even though she's still hurting over what happened in the last book, she goes forward and tries to help.

This book takes Gwen and her friends to a beautiful mountain range and it was a great setting. They also visit another Mythos Academy and I loved seeing another school and the similarities and differences. And while this is the fifth book in the series there are still new things we learn, secrets that get unveiled and new characters we meet. There are fights with the reapers and the battle between the reapers and the Pantheon continues. This is another great instalment in this series and I can't wait to finally read the last book as well.

I really Gwen and her friend, they are a tight group who help each other and stand together in battle. Then there's Vic, Gwen's talking sword, which is still one of my favourite characters. We also meet some new characters in this book which I quickly grown to like. I was a bit disappointed by how Logan was absent and while I understood his reasoning I also thought he should have been there for Gwen. He's afraid of hurting her again, but while Gwen believes in him, he doesn't believe in himself. This made me like him a bit less and I hope we can finally see them together and fighting side by side in the last book.

In terms of world building there isn't added much, although we learn a bit more about a mythology creature we haven't met before so far and some pieces of information are added. There's also the search for the artefacts and what they can do, where we learn some new things. So in terms of world building it's a steady continuation of the previous books.

To conclude: another great book in this series, after a few chapters I was sucked into this story and didn't want to stop reading. While this series isn't perfect I love it and each book makes me hungry for more. There is action, adventure, friendship and more. This book provides Gwen and her friends with a new challenge and they meet some new characters. I hope to read the last book soon as now I am back in this series I want to know how it ends!

My, what an epic disappointment this series turned out to be. Not to mention, the amount of time I wasted on this! I initially thought that I'd wait for the series to conclude and then resume reading book 3 onwards. I finished books 3, 4 and 5 and I could not bring myself to read further. The books all follow a formula and if you've read the first two books, you know exactly what's gonna happen in the rest of the books.

So Gwen is Nike's champion, and the chosen one to kill Loki, the eevil god of chaos. Loki got out of his prison in book 3 and we still haven't seen him. For all this talk about how horrible he is, I haven't seen him since his escape. All I see are his good-for-nothing minions.

Also, it's almost as if there are no stakes in this series. Sure, people die, but most are just a bunch of names so there is no emotional connect with these people. They only ever had one purpose, cannon-fodder. They come and they die. Also, the main characters are always safe, not once was I worried that Gwen, Daphne, Oliver, Logan, etc would die. Sure, there were some close shaves but there was never any real danger.

As for characters, all of them are such one-dimensional cut-outs that I didn't care about any one of them. Usually, in a book, there are at least some redeeming characters, not so here. Gwen was dull and eager to sacrifice herself, plus, she is so busy mooning after Logan that it's a wonder that she gets anything done.

As for Logan, he's the usual love-interest. He is beyond lame and dull. He's so generic, that for a minute I even forgot if his name is Logan or Lucas. He's that boring.

Then there are the friends: Daphne, Oliver and some others. Utterly forgettable.

Right now, I don't think I could deal with reading book 6. Not that I need to, I already know the outcome, Gwen will kill Loki, somewhere along the way, her friends will help out her out. Everybody will live happily ever after. Even Metis and Nickamedes will have their happily ever after. Ugh, why do I need to read something when I already know what's gonna happen?

If you're wondering whether this series is worth the effort, it is not, avoid it like the plague.

Before reading this book, if you haven't, I really encourage you to read the novel Spartan Frost that is set right before this one. It's written in Logan's point of view and gives us an insight of his struggles after the battle at the end of Crimson Frost and it also builds the hype for this book.

Some reaper is still trying to kill Gwen, (LOL, what's new? She should really invest in a great life insurance!) but this time somebody else is hurt instead of her and the team (minus Logan because he is still traumatize about the all being possessed) set for an adventure to find a cure.

In this book we explore another Mythos Academy (I like that there are different Academies around the US and the world) and we encounter new characters, in particular we dig more into Gwen background in her father's side. (Yes, I was beginning to wonder if she even had a father since he had been mentioned since now)

Another strong book in the series, the books are a quick read. Now, let's start the last book!

I would probably give this one 4.5 Stars but as it's Jennifer, I'm rounding up!

There were parts of this story I loved, the plot is starting to move along at a quick pace again and there are new aspects being added in which is keeping my interest. I loved the added mythology and the insights into Gwen's family. It was a little predictable in parts, not just to me but also to the characters in the book themselves. It's still my favourite YA series and I will be back for more!

I really wasn't that impressed with this story. It felt so unnecessary! There was a lot of repeated information in this book, and Gwen spent the entire time whining about Logan leaving her. I did like meeting Rory, in light of the fact that there is now going to be a spin off series that follows her. The ending events were also interesting, but also very confusing as well. I'll read the last book in the series, because I am too OCD not to, but I'm not holding out much hope for it.

I needed something lighthearted before losing my mind over all those psychotic thrillers and this book was perfect, I'm still enjoying this series a lot. (Thanks Shaina for lending me all these books :))!)

And my little Gwen-gurl really grew strong in this one, I'm looking forward to read the final installment.
