In the depths of the Amazon rainforest a shaman utters a dire warning foretelling the string of grisly and seemingly unconnected animal attacks that become more and more common around the globe. In a few days time the attacks become a massacre when all life on Earth turns against humanity, culminating in a violent, coordinated effort to cull the human race...
Considering the entire plot of the book,I feel like author could have gone much further into detail regarding the climax and resolution. It presented an absolutely fantastic idea but then never really answered or dived into the mysteries in any way. I read it in one sitting and I absolutely loved it, but I think that a lot more detail could have gone into the plot line. This could have easily been a 500-page book with lots of success but it was just short and rushed. If the author ever published a prequel or spinoff I would go for it in a heartbeat but this particular writing was unsatisfying, although it is a very unique and interesting idea!
I have a lot of mixed emotions about this book. I enjoy " when animals attack" type books but am always hesitant to start one for fear on being bludgeoned by " mankind is bad, global warming, greedy companies are responsible for end of times" hyperbole ( not that it is incorrect but when its too heavy handed it ruins the book ). This book did well with that aspect of things.. didn't feel like I was getting preached to at all. Book also did well as far as wanting to keep reading - action moved at nice pace, everything was well written and I felt totally immersed in the scenes for the most part. Then it ends. Pretty much just like that. It gets to a point where it seems like the author couldn't really tie the 3 subplots together and and didn't feel like writing anymore so everything just sort of concluded. Few paragraphs of epilogue didn't satisfy me at all. Would have much rather Mr. Benton stop where it was and continue with a second book in the series. Very disappointing.. too many loose ends. Will give his books another shot as I enjoyed a bulk of the time I spent reading it. If you read this book set the bar low for the ending.
This is an action-packed book! The pace is fast and it was hard to put down! One day, animals turn on humans. The characters were likable, and I really enjoyed how the book focused on each of their experiences. The message is strong that we need to find balance with nature because we're all a part of it and we need to stop abusing the environment. If you love animal attack books, you'll really like it!
Violent storyline, but excellent writing & non-stop action!
Wow.....found a new favorite writer! This is a violent story (as described in it's story description) with absolute non-stop action, superior, tight writing style and more than one surprise along the way. Highly recommend for sci-fi and thriller readers!
It was nice to be introduced to this by the author himself. I enjoyed the idea of it and for an Indie publication thought it was pretty good. As with many Indie publications it would benefit from a good editor's pen, perhaps also some consultation with people from the different cultures explored. Overall worth a read.
A true thriller! I couldn't put it down. This story has no dull moments from start to finish. I watched and loved the series Zoo and was afraid this would be very similar but it stands on its own. Action packed with great characters and a somewhat surprising ending. You will not be disappointed.
I simply could not put it down. So well written with both canals and humans given equal cause. Who is to say this means get not happen, I sure look at my dog differently, and maybe he won't sleep by my bed for a while.
I've always loved books that have a man vs nature theme and this one is great! If you've ever read James Patterson's Zoo (if not, worth the read!), then you will thoroughly enjoy this book.
I really had good time reading Fauna!!! If you like animal attack movies like Grizzly, Day Of The Animals, The Birds, The Wild Beasts or The Zoo tv series. You’ll like this cautionary tale about man vs animals. Do your self a favor and check Fauna out!!!
This book is an excellent tale of mother nature getting her revenge. Really makes you wonder if this could actually happen. Well-written and enjoyable.
Well written. I loved the ending. Didn't see that coming with a certain beloved pet. Would definitely recommend. Looking forward to reading more by this author!
Well..here we are again...we all read to escape into a different world or adventure...This book is excellent for that purpose...it's a easy read, full of nonstop action , very plausible situation, all in all makes you stop and think of the condition of our world and our blatant abuse
Okay so I gave the book 5 stars because 4.5 isn’t an option but let me explain why. The concept of this book is super good, animals taking revenge on mankind. Such a good book to start off pre Halloween. This book is very gorey it felt like I was watching a horror movie, like the terrifier. I enjoyed reading it very much. The only reason I would deduct .5 of the stars is the ending. For my liking, I found the ending a little rushed as if the author just wanted to end it already. I would’ve loved if he made it longer and figured out a more sensible ending for the main characters. It was kinda like oh it’s over already? I wasn’t toooo satisfied with the ending but nonetheless I loved this book.
This was a disappointment. Great ideas (although, wait, isn’t it Harry Harrison’s ”Deathworld”?), but bad execution, weak climax, too much violence/gore… No no no, this could have been a great book, but instead I feel that I will never read Benton again.
