“What I do doesn't define who I am. You know me, Sanaa.” Oftentimes, we tend to neglect the truth out of the fear of facing it. However, seventeen-year-old, Cairo Hartwell, is left with no choice but to do just that. He is forced to face a harsh reality after one reckless decision costs him the loss of his older brother. Being pushed into manhood, he steps up as the man of the house and the rock for his family. Having big shoes to fill, he finds himself desperate to ensure that they don’t go without. With bills piling up, rage coursing through his veins, and money on his mind, will the streets be the only thing he has left to turn to? Sanaa Wilkinson is the very thing Cairo never knew he needed. She couldn’t have entered his life at a better time. When everyone else thinks it was best to steer clear of him, she has a way of inserting herself right into the center of his world. Despite an ongoing battle with her own demons, Sanaa has dedicated herself to being the backbone Cairo needs. Being given a second chance at a fresh start and the ability to redeem herself from a dark past, things are finally starting to look up for her, and she has her new love interest to thank for that. Cairo has given her the motivation she needed to make a once toxic relationship a thing of the past. But what happens when the past begins to resurface and threatens everything she’s worked so hard for? As Cairo finds himself under the wing of one of Philly's finest drug lords, he falls headfirst into a world of trouble and a web of lies. When bad turns to worse, and push comes to shove, he is left to choose between the streets and his family. With Sanaa by his side and his family on his back, when all is said and done, will Cairo live up to his name and come out victorious?
My heart broke for Cairo. He felt like he had to live up to Chaz. Their mom I felt so sorry for her too. Lolli poor her. I couldn’t imagine going through what Cairo went through. Sanaa was his saving grace. I like the relationship between the two of them. Her cousin is a mess overall good read.
Sudden, unexpected Death affects everyone differently. Good read.... interesting how Chaz death and the manner in which occurred affected everyone. Cairo just cant seem to catch a break! Sanaa is what Cairo needs.. hope she makes it. Glad Lolli is finally getting the support she needs.. Cant wait to see what happens in part 2... So many lingering questions
This book here. I hope he doesn’t lose anyone else. He mentally can’t take it no more. I felt so bad for him in the beginning losing a brother is hard. Can’t wait for part 2 great job
This book was a good read for me. I felt so bad for everyone have to deal with the death of Chaz. Everyone tried to deal with it on their own and it was extremely rough. Can’ut wait to see what happens in part 2
I really enjoyed this book. It was really good. It’s most definitely a must read. I hated the way the police did Chaz. I love Sanaa and Cairo together. There was so much drama in this book. I can’t wait to read part 2. I hope Sanaa survives.
Cairo just couldn't catch a break with love. He loved his older brother the police killed him. He found love with Sanaan but it looks like it not meant to be we will be waiting on part 2 to see what happens.
Cairo has been through a lot and has lost a lot throughout this book. It’s hard losing a brother and having to be strong for your mother. I’m waiting for part 2 to see what happens. Great job
This book was full of drama and action and held my attention from the start until the end. Chaz death effected everyone and really made you think about police brutality and hopefully, justice will prevail in the end. Enjoyed this book and Cairo & Sanaa. Can't wait to see what's happens in PT.2.
It started off really good, then slowed down a lot, then picked back up at the end. I'm hoping the next part is waay better. It took me a while to finish, as it didn't hold my attention until closer to the end.
