This is an amazing quilt pattern book! With different variations and color choices it can be beautiful. Several I have done in the past and thinking of creating this quilt now.
A lot of times with new quilting books, the authors will basically just ** reinvent the wheel ** by including old blocks with different arrangements and then try to copyright it. Those books are really exhausting. But “The Ultimate Quilt Block Collection” by Lynne Goldsworthy is different.
Sure, Goldsworthy does include some of the most basic blocks, like boxes and 4 patches. But she also includes some really ingenious quilt blocks that I’ve never seen, like the Wild Winnie block that is paper pieced. The author includes numerous quilt blocks—70 in fact—and incorporates not only cutting instructions for traditional piecing, but also includes paper piecing patterns that can be printed out for foundation patterns.
The author’s instructions are really coherent, and I love all of the full-color photographs. I also like how, with many of the blocks, she will show different arrangements and colors. Some of the blocks would definitely be challenging for a beginner, but many of the foundation blocks are so beautiful that it would be well worth the try.
This book is definitely worth having on a shelf, either in a personal library or in a local library. The foundation piecing patterns that the author included make this book a worthy purchase.
