A human female who unleashes his forbidden desires. A wicked alien mercenary. A desire hotter than the stars.
Being abducted by aliens wasn’t exactly on Cara Call’s bucket list...and while her caged prison threatened to break her, it didn’t extinguish her fight. When she’s taken captive again by a massive, overbearing alien warrior, she comes out with fists blazing. Too bad her new captor is about as wicked and delicious as they come…nipple piercings, scars, and all.
Devix was once a proud warrior of Luxiria—impossibly strong, universally feared, and full of carnal lusts and desires befitting his race. Until he was exiled, punished for a crime he didn’t commit. Now, working as a ruthless mercenary in the Quadrants, his final job is delivering a feisty human pleasure mate to his employer. But when he realizes the female is his fated mate, with her lush curves and sharp tongue, he risks everything to keep her.
Trapped on a small spaceship, journeying to who-knows-where, alone with an alien who awakens her darkest lusts, Cara begins to realize her strange attraction to her captor might be the least of her problems...especially with vengeful aliens hot on their tail.
Features a spirited and sassy human female and a seven-foot-tall alien warrior with naughty fantasies and even naughtier -ahem- equipment. Full-length (65,000+ words), standalone Sci-Fi Romance novel!
Zoey Draven has been writing stories for as long as she can remember. Her love affair with the romance genre started with her grandmother's old Harlequin paperbacks and has continued ever since. As a Top 100 Amazon bestselling author, now she gets to write the happily-ever-afters—with a cosmic, otherworldly twist, of course!
When she's not writing, she's probably drinking one too many cups of coffee, hiking in the redwoods, or spending time with her family.

MAIN CHARACTER NAMES Cara Call | Devix
FEATURES ∘ alien-human romance ∘ fated mates ∘ he teaches her how to fight ∘ nicknames (SHE calls HIM baby)
REVIEW Fated mates fighting the inner pull of their bond yet inadvertently giving into it is an adored trope of mine. Combine it with forced proximity, it’s a party.
Wicked Captor delivered on that aspect and then some. Devix struggled with the Instinct possibly ruining his chance of freedom. He so, so desperately tried to not care about Cara, but we all knew he was a goner the moment he got mad her former captors didn’t feed her properly.
I distinctly remember disliking the plot point of “my brother was falsely accused of rape and exiled” in whichever Warriors of Luxuria book it was featured, so to have a book center around said brother made me hesitant.
While I do think that plotpoint stained an otherwise compelling story, it was in the background enough I could forget about it—until it was mentioned again. Alas, I knew what it was before going into it, so to penalize it when I was well aware seems silly.
The opening of the novel was so interesting, but it quickly loses steam despite Cara and Devix’s relationship progressing steadily. It’s a short novel, yet it felt like it were over three hundred pages. Perhaps it was my (lack of) patience rather than the actual pacing. By the end, things were interesting again, and then it was OVER.
Without reading the next in the series (yet), I do believe the story could’ve been contained to one book, but I also have a bias against series following one couple, so what do I know?
OW/OM DRAMA none CHEATING none THIRD ACT BREAKUP no ENDING HEA — epilogue shortly in the future; multiple subplots left unresolved, but the couple is secure and in love
POV dual / third person SPICE LEVEL 3.5 / 5 RATING 3 / 5
If you avoid the issue of too much information about past lovers then it is a good book. I find this book more clear than ‘The Alien’s touch’ her other book. As this is a series some of the main issues in the book wasn’t resolved. Still likable heroine and honorable hero who was a sweetheart. Eventhough they both had many hookups in the past.( yes! I’m still not over that😕) Recommended.
The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 🖤💙💜❤️ Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📙 World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏 Character development: ☹️🥲😋😘 Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙 Narration Type: Duet Narration
The heroine:Cara - she was a human woman who was abducted from Earth by aliens. She was taken to the Pit, kept in a small, filthy cage and given to winners in the fighting pit. She thought she would be there forever, until a new alien won her and took her off the planet to another trading planet. He kept her hidden in a cloak with a hood that covered her head and kept her face in shadow. He took her to a bar where he waited, she knew he was there to sell her, though every time she asked, he smacked her.
The Hero:Devix - he was formerly a warrior of Luxiria, but had since been banished from his home world. He was banished because his rival betrayed him and said that he caught Devix raping his blood sister. Devix still couldn’t believe it even six years later and sometimes wondered if he actually had done it. Right after his banishment, he lived on a planet called Patrika with the worst kind of people. He fought in underground fights for brew mostly. He was trained as one of the most feared and brutal warriors in the galaxy, and now as an outcast, he is even more unpredictable so he did well in the fights.
The story: A wealthy Azatian male called Sarkin found Devix in the underground fights and gave him a new life, though he requested six years of favors from Devix before he was free to live his own life on Rozun where he made his home. Devix had one final favor left to do for Sarkin, he had to go back to the world where he had once lived and fought, meet someone and purchase Sarkin’s most recent pleasure slave for his harem and bring her to Sarkin. Though when he gets to the bar, he knows immediately, before even seeing her face, that the female is his fated mate.
Devix knew he needed to deliver the human female to Sarkin, he had to ignore the fact that she was his mate. This last task for Sarkin needed to be completed so he could finally be free to live his solitary life on Rozun. So he planned on protecting Cara and delivering her safely to Sarkin. However, as they were alone together on his spaceship for days, it became harder for Devix to ignore the pull between them and the arousal she generated in him.
This was a pretty standard alien romance. I liked the fact that Devix was such a good warrior, though I would think that he shouldn’t have needed to be rescued from his existence by a man like Sarkin. I would have thought he had the skills to make his own way in the world. Sarkin was kind of a villain, but also he did some good things for Devix, even though he got more in return. He even kidnapped Devix’s blood brother and got a confession from him about the fact he lied about the rape he said he witnessed, that the sex had been consensual. I liked that this book had a decent ending as a standalone, but the story continues in the next book, so if you want to stop at this one, you can, but if you want to hear more of this couple, you can continue.
This audiobook was told in multiple points of view via duet narration and was narrated by Tristan Josiah and Sierra Grace. Both of these narrators have pleasant voices, but they both speak in a way that you can tell they are reading, something about the pauses in between words makes it sound that way. Though overall they are pretty good and I have definitely heard much worse and I like both of their voices.
Note: Some of my goodreads shelves can be spoilers
Overall: 3.5 rounded to ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Readability: 📖📖📖📖 Feels: 🦋🦋🦋 Emotional Depth: 💔💔💔 Sexual Tension: ⚡⚡⚡ Romance: 💞💞💞💞 Sensuality: 💋💋💋 (I don’t know – for me there was something missing from these steamy scenes!) Sex Scene Length: 🍑🍑🍑🍑 Steam Scale (Number of Sex Scenes): 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Humor: A bit Perspective: Third person from both hero and heroine Cliffhanger: No, this ends with a happy for now – but the next book in the series continues their relationship. There are some plot points not wrapped up at the end of this one but the relationship is pretty solid. When mains are first on page together: pretty soon! First chapter or two Format: bought audiobook
Should I read in order? This is the first book of the Warrior of Rozun series, but yes read this series in order and start here – it’s where the plot problems are developed that Devix will face in the next book.
Basic plot: One more job and Devix will gain his freedom – only he didn’t expect this last cargo to be his fated mate.
Give this a try if you want: - Science fiction romance - Alien setting – the book takes place on multiple alien planets and a spaceship - alien hero/human heroine pairing - fated mates - protective hero – it’s been instilled in him that his race never hurts females - chef heroine - celibate hero - huge hero/tiny heroine - never been kissed hero - hero trains the heroine - higher steam – 5 scenes in a shorter page count
My thoughts: I wanted to love this one so badly! And I did like quite a few parts for it. Overall, this was a decent read to me but not one I would reread and I’m not particularly motivated to read the next in this series.
I enjoyed the beginning set up – our heroine is kidnapped from Earth and while the hero is the one that’s going to take her to her next ‘owner’, he’s also in a place to rescue her. I liked them getting to know each other. I liked the longing the hero felt right away. But then I started getting a little bored. There seemed to be a lot of training and not enough touching for me. Then, about halfway, there were a few chapters I REALLY loved. I adore hero’s never been kissed, and when our hero decides he’s all in, I was just swooning. I also really loved the tiny bit of primal play aspect where there’s some chasing and grabbing. But ultimately this part was so short and I wanted more.
Then once the intimacy starts, it kind of happened fast. I lost the tension that was building for me. Also there was a lot of implying ‘dark desires’ kind of thing with the hero and I felt like we didn’t get enough of that. We walk into scenes already started and some brief mentions of spanking. There’s a bit of ‘breeding’ vibe I liked, but again, I would have really just preferred a really developed scene or two with those things added in (and exploring more of those darker desires) than all the sex we got. I didn’t want more sex, I wanted different sex.
This was my first Zoey Draven and while it wasn’t a favorite for me, I still enjoyed it and will definitely be trying more of hers in the future.

Full break down on what my ratings above mean here: Overall: How I felt about it everything considered! Readability: How ‘readable’ was the book? Did I fly through it? Did I have to tell myself to pick it back up repeatedly? Were any passages confusing? (I will probably score like (1) is literally unreadable due to formatting/typing errors, etc (2) There were lots of errors that made it difficult to read OR It was extremely confusing and I had to reread passages to make sense of it OR I disliked it so much I had to bribe myself to keep reading (3) I didn’t really want to keep reading and would have preferred to abandon the read and start something else OR some minor continuity issues/confusion (4) I liked it fine, maybe a minor error or 2. I was happy to pick it up when I had time. (5) I never wanted to put this down. I thought about it when I wasn’t reading it. I hid in the bathroom from my kids to read. I threw inappropriate food at my children for dinner so I could read instead.) Feels: Totally subjective to each person but did the book give me any tingles? Any butterflies? Did it rip my heart out (in a good way?) Emotional depth: How well do I feel I know the characters at the end? How much did I feel their emotions throughout the story? Sexual tension: Again, subjective, but how strong was the wanting and longing to me between the characters? A book might have strong sexual tension without a single touch. Romance: Was there romance? Did romantic things happen? This can be actions/words/thoughts of the characters and again is subjective. Sensuality: This is how the intimate scenes are written. Kisses and sexual scenes – how sensual were they? Were they on the mechanical side? Was there emotional pull tied in? Were the details explicit or flowery? These are subjective but generally (1) too short to get a good judgement (2) not all what I'm looking for - very vague or flowery prose (3) either not explicit enough or not enough emotional pull (too mechanical/physically descriptive without the emotions) (4) what I love in a scene (5) absolute perfection - perfect balance of emotional longing and explicit descriptions Sex Scene Length: How long the bedroom scenes are (generally (1) is 1-3 sentences (2) is a few paragraphs to a page-ish (3) is about average, a few pages (4) more well developed scenes, quite a few pages with descriptions (4) the majority of the book takes place in the bedroom. This is always hard to tell for me on audio! Steam Scale: Generally, each flame is a scene. If scenes are super close together I sometimes combine them. If a scene is super short or so vague I don’t know what’s happening, I don’t count it. There’s some levels of grey but generally the number of flames is how many sex scenes there are (I max out at 5 so I’ll put a + after if there’s more than that)
I didn't know this was a two part book. It didn't end on a cliff hanger so that's great but yeah, it's a two part and I don't think I'm gonna bother reading the next one. It's a mood thing really. But honestly, it was pretty much interchangeable with most other Alien romances. It did feel like some things were overly explored but like I said, the two part makes sense of that.
I liked that our h was a chef. That one's new, usually they're doctors or waitresses or something. I didn't really like her. My feminist senses started to riot, kinda wanted to shake her, maybe bitch slap her a couple times like, "Why you so stupid?!" "Have you never heard of the words self-control?!"
I'm pretty sure y'all know the type Lol! :p
The H was a sweety. I don't think I've ever really read an Alien romance where the hero wasn't particularly attentive and oh so sensitive to their female's "needs" and "feelings". Rofl! xD
Don't ask me why I'm laughing, I just can't seem to stop. :p But it was kinda hot, so I'll give it that...
The MMC is sent to purchase Cara for his employer so she will be part of his employer’s harem. Of course, the MMC recognizes her as his fated immediately after seeing her. They have some back and forth banter and he spends a long time trying to convince himself to not deliver her. Cara came from the Pit, the same place the FMC in the first Luxirian book came from. She’s got some understandable trauma but still takes risks in the way she speaks to her new captor. It was interesting to see a more morally grey Luxirian, even though he seemed to still hold most of the same standards.
im having a real hard time with the heroine's continued attraction to the hero when she /knows/ he's literally transporting her to a place where she'll be a sexual slave,,,,,,, also, she keeps worrying about hurting his feelings??? like im just not buying it. i feel frustrated with the characters in every single interaction they have. 39% was where i officially gave up but i might skim the rest of the book since im interested in how it ends.
EDIT: i finished it by partly skimming, partly reading. i enjoyed the overall plot but didn't like the characters until halfway through, which is a bit too late imo. my enjoyment of the book may have been hindered partly by the fact that alien/sci-fi romance is one of my least favorite romance genres, so take this review with a grain of salt.
The author establishes a really good background of the hero and heroine. The descriptions of the planet's and spaceship are easy to picture without being overdone. The romance develops in just a few days in space but not a wham bam thank you ma'am.
A spinoff from the Warriors of Luxiria series, The Warrior of Rozun series was remarkably (and I mean remarkably) similar to the start of the Luxiria series. Alien hero acquires human heroine through less than morally upright means, his "Instinct" awakens with her and then they have lots o' sex. But the story points are slightly different, in that the hero has been exiled for a crime he didn't commit.
I enjoyed it and would recommend for those who love their alien SFR, but I think I'm giving this string of books a rest for a bit.
Best to read Warriors of Luxiria series first as this one takes place after. Devix is the exiled brother of a War General but he's innocent of the convicted crime. He's a mercenary but decides to not turn his captive over to the male who bought her. Meeting his fated mate brings him out of his downward spiral and the two find love and strength in each other. Good story.
Wicked Captor is the first book in the Warrior of Rozun series and is a quick read with lots of steam and spice. I don't mind reading these books, alien, human, fated mates tropes, because they are sci-fi, and anything goes. It is quite a nice distraction from normal life for a few hours, especially if it is Zoey Draven. Her writing style is easy and inviting.
Re-reading this series again because apparently I didn't leave a review the first time.
I enjoyed Devix and I liked Cara! Their chemistry was great and their smut was HOT AF!
This book has a plot but I felt like it got resolved so so quickly and while I know it wasn’t the purpose of the book, I still think it was dealt with too quickly.
I am craving more of these two as well and I happen he gets to prove his innocence in the second part!
Whew!! 🥵 Okay but Devix?? New favorite from the Luxiria universe.
Exiled Luxirian warrior turned mercenary? SIGN ME THE HELL UP! This is my catnip.
Devix is the brother of Rixavox (from The Alien's Touch). He had been wrongfully exiled for a crime he did not commit and is now doing one final mercenary job so he can finally be free to live a peaceful life on a small colony planet, Rozun.
The job? Deliver a human purchased by his boss for said bosses harem. But once Devix meets Cara- the feisty female who refuses to accept defeat, he realizes she is his fated mate.
UGH this one is SO good! So many delicious things: ✅ Forced proximity ✅ Spicy combat training ✅ Dagger to throat
This one wraps up nicely but this couple DOES have a 2nd book soooo don't mind me. BRB. Going to read it now 👋🏻
I just love this story!. The broken broody hero and the feisty fierce heroine who takes no bull. I loved the explosive chemistry between the characters and all the back and forth bickering and playfulness. They just made me happy.
Their story is all kinds of crazy , unpredictable and oh so lusty. The building tension, the climactic feel to the story. The crazy world building that goes into making a story like this. It's out of this world. I just loved it. I'm keeping this short and sweet because I'm moving straight on to the next story which is a continuation of this one with the same lead characters and I'm so excited to see where it leads me.
This world is full of all the weird and wonderful that I didn't know I loved in books. Definitely worth a read if your a romance lover like me!.
Fab read. Haven’t read such a good sci-fi read in ages. Loved the characters and their connection, they had great chemistry. Looking forward to the next book.
Cara and Devix are perfect. Devix is Rixavox’s brother and he was falsely accused of rape and was exiled. When his boss tells him on his last mercenary job that he has the confession from the accuser that he lied, Devix has to make a choice; give up his fated mate and be exonerated or continue his exile and be hunted by his boss with his fated mate.
Didn't keep my interest and I realized that I should have read her other series first - Warriors of Luxiria since this is a spin-off of that series it seems. I felt like I was missing information about the world.
Every book I've read for this author leaves me breathless. Not only it's beyond good, it's extremely and beautifully well written with lots of love, laughter and sizzling hot sex. I definitely recommend all the series.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This has real emotion, but it suffers a little from a lack of worldbuilding. It is, however, a part one, so maybe the second book with improve that. Or maybe it’s simply that the worldbuilding happened in a different series?
This book was a fun read but I wasn’t as hooked as I have been with other books by Draven. The relationship between Cara and Devix just did not do it for me. Falling in love with your captor whose purpose is to deliver you as a sex slave does not hit. I didn’t buy Cara actually empathising with why Devix was doing this and being cool about it?? And still attracted to him? (I get the fated mate stuff but still!) Girl why are you so chill about this!
I usually froth Draven’s books but this was a miss. And the dirty talk was very lackluster.
