This was sad. I’m sad now.
Somebody comfort me!
Prepare yourselves for: less laughter, more heartbreak; less fun games, more serious competition. I deeply appreciated how Pacat chose to dwell on the stress and difficulty of competition where everyone is hoping you’d lose, and I’m sure she’s gonna go ahead and teach our characters the way to handle that pressure, but in the mean time...my heart broke with a quietly deafening crack and I’m just scrambling to put it back together. I half blame my playlist, it was piercing.
Also, yikes I hate Seiji again—he’s a total jerk and I don’t care about his insecurities; stop acting like a weak, petty bully if you want me to respect you!
You go Nicholas baby, don’t give up—march forward to the beat of your own confident drums because when you have nothing you need to take what you’re owed.
That aside, while I loved the themes Pacat explored (and of course adored the writing and art as usual), it just wasn’t enough. Not much happened and I just need more. Especially from Aiden who gifted me with a single moment of joy and has utterly captivated my attention. I’d be lying if I said I’m not dying to see what happens next muahahaha.

The best thing about this issue: “You can let yourself out.”
I swear Aiden is such a heartbreaker; you can’t help but gotta love him for it! <3 *lol* Also I can’t wait to see what he has in store for Seji! I mean he’s apparently a very good fencer so I expect an awesome match in the next volume! Is Aiden going to make a dent in Seji’s ego or will it be the other way around? They are both more than just self-assured that’s for sure.
And Nicholas! Don’t you dare to give up now!! Get your head back into the game and rock this show! Do you hear me?! Seji has insecurities too, you can beat him!
I loved that we finally got a moment in Seji’s head but what happened with Nicholas? I really hope this will be explained in the next volume!

No hay peor enemigo que darle mil vueltas a las cosas... y justo eso es lo que Nicholas está haciendo. Tiene que empezar a confiar en sí mismo y a dejar todo lo que lo condiciona detrás. Y justo desaparece para su segundo duelo, ay.

It wad fun, as always. I really love the characters and the fencing. But I feel like not much happened in this issue? It was a little bit of a filler. But it was cool to see the drawing of the fencing match and I liked how it explored Seiji's anxiety about Nicholas and the one point he nearly lost. Nice.

As always, the cliffhanger slayed me and I need the next one now.

Hmmmm .. not particularly in love with this issue. I know that these comics are short but this one is even shorter than the previous ones. I didn’t really get a lot of what’s going on. We only practically got one tournament and I was left unsatisfied.

This issue deals with
Overthinking and lack of confidence was a huge theme in this issue. We see MC whose (who's? I'm literally half asleep as of writing) name I still don't remember. I can't wait to see those theme explored more in the coming issues.

Tryouts have begun and things aren't going so well.
Nicholas struggles through his first match because he's too up in his head and not playing his natural game; Seiji is still being a pompous prat to basically everyone, especially Nicholas; and campus playboy and all-around douche-nozzle Aiden needs to be knocked down a peg or two.
I have no idea where this is going, but I hope Nicholas brings his A-game sooner rather than later and shows these entitled snobs who's boss.

Ok, so I have to say this I think Nicholas is a bit too angry and bitter towards Seiji. I mean, yes, the guy is a jerk that's of himself but, at least, he has a reason to be one. He is good. And he's good because he has trained and work hard for that.
Nicholas in the other hand kinda believes that the world owes him because of what his father did. That just because he's talented he's good, or that he deserves something for that. That kind of thinking won't get you very far in life.
Yet, he's trying to work, even though this time it really didn't help him at all. I really hope he can become better and become a worthy opponent to Seiji. That match would be really good to see.
As a whole, I'm starting to get tired of the slow pace the comics advanced in. I just which each issue could be longer. But, well, the world won't end because of that. Everything else is great.

I'm going so quickly through these comics. Which really isn't much of a surprise considering that they are verily 30 pages long, well, less than 30 each.
Still, I'm having a blast reading them and I'm already having so many feels from it, part nostalgia - really don't know why - and part love for these amazing characters.
I'm pretty confident I'll be done with them by next month, which isn't bad and at the same time is really bad because then I won't have more Fence to read for a while. Life can be cruel sometimes.

** This Issue is my least favorite so far in the series but still I liked it enough to give it 3 stars
** I think the thing that I love most about the series is the interaction between the characters and that was missing in this one. it's the first day of tryouts and we get to witness Nicholas compete in his first match.
** I was really tense watching Nicholas fence, I knew he needed a win to prove to everyone and to himself that he deserves to be on the team so I was invested in the story
** I really love Nicholas so much and I'm rooting for him to improve his fencing and to beat his fears and his doubts
** I didn't like Seiji at all in this one, I'm all for different characters but he seems too untouchable to me emotionally wise like nothing could rattle him, I want to see something more from him as a character
** I think these issues could be so much better if they were longer a little bit, I mean the minute you really get into the story, it just ends.

For now, this issue is my favorite by far as we slowly start to see the emotions of the characters. My heart was touched a few times, always in different ways, finally this story begins to really get to me and I’m glad about it. Don’t get me wrong, I knew, well I assumed to know this would happen anytime. But the sooner, the better, right?
Nicholas was the one who made my heart ache. To be honest, in issues 1-3 I liked him but I was sort of indifferent about him. Now reading about his self-doubts hurts. For the first time he was really defeated when he asked Seiji to for once not be rude (or should I say, insult him?). Seiji of course was the sensible person we know he is.... XD
...hm, I’m sad about the outcome. Not sad, I’m screaming on the inside! And I headcanon Bobby and Dante to search for Nicholas, so he doesn’t lose by default. Bobby will also force Seiji to help and eventually, Seiji will be the one convincing Nicholas to return and fight. I’m free to dream!
Seiji had a quite interesting part in this issue, too. I wonder what he thinks he saw in Nicholas. Did he recognize the connection to Jesse?
That aside, I already can tell, Seiji’s role in issue 5 will be even grander, aside of what I headcanon.
Bobby is very cute, I’ve already said so in my other review and no issue fails in underlining this simple fact. Buuut Bobby & Dante are even better. Dante waited in the gym, though he’s not at all interested in fencing, and brought him water to refresh himself. He’s just there for Bobby. I’m soooo in love with this couple!!!!
Aiden is not only a playboy but also 100% bad-ass! Okay, there already were hints, still the way he looks down on others and thinks he can win without truly competing and although his opponent is better than him?!?? What the **** is going on?? The bad side of me finds him highly fascinating. And oh, can we take a minute to appreciate how Harvard reminds, more like reprimands Aiden, so he starts fighting for his spot in the team? Might it be you’re worried, Captain?
The next issue can’t come soon enough!!
