Contested Heir

Rate this book
Elizabeth can face down a band of mercenaries without flinching, but her family is another matter.

Elizabeth never asked to be heir of the family business. She only took on the role to keep her grandson safe. She doesn't even know what the position involves, but it can't offer her any of the chances to use her magic that her work as an honourable mercenary did, can it?

The more she finds out, the more intrigued she is. She's shocked, even angry, to learn that her family has magic, that they've had it for longer than should be possible. They might know things that even the mage kingdom doesn't. Maybe there's a place for her here after all?

But someone isn't happy about her being the heir. They'll stop at nothing to get her out of the picture. How can Elizabeth keep them safe when her predecessor keeps getting in the way?

Contested Heir is the second novella length (30,000 words) episode in the Prophecy Unravelled Series.

Rin Grey is the fantasy pen name for romance author Rinelle Grey. Her stories have the same overall feeling and eventual happily ever after, as well as a strong romantic theme, but don’t necessarily meet all the typical romance conventions. Characters may betray other characters, cheat, or go through more than one partner over the course of the story. If these bother you, I'd recommend you click away now!

I received a copy of Contested Heir by Rin Grey in exchange for an honest review.
Note: this review contains spoilers!
Magic has been the center of Elizabeth’s life for so long, it’s hard for her to be objective. What she does know is that without the proper training, magic can be deadly. So she’s stuck in her home town teaching her grandson, who is going to be powerful, how to control his magic. And she is supposed to learning about what it means to be the family heir. Unfortunately, things are never as easy as they seem and it appears that Mitch doesn’t control his magic as well as they thought he did.
Then Digger shows up with her horse and the rest of her items right in the middle of her ex-husband’s wedding. And the mercenaries show up along with the crazy Amily and things really get interesting.
Once Amily is subdued, things get back to normal, right? Not hardly. There’s still the secret mission of the king, Sean‘s plans, the other mages in the family that Elizabeth never knew about, and training Mitch.
Rin Grey packs a lot into this story. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

I love this series. It has the right amount of suspense, intrigue, magic, romance. I can't wait for the next book. I need to find out if Digger stays or if finding out he is with an older woman who looks as young as he does will drive him away. Of course, don't forget about the mysterious voice talking to Joycelyn.

Contested contested Heir

A great second part to this story. We meet Elizabeth’s family and she is named Heir to her family’s business. Digger follows her and we see Sean, the mage, get upset with this. It will be interesting to see what happens next.
