Excerpt from The Chronicles of Quincy Adams Sawyer, Detective With the death abroad of the Honourable Quincy Adams Sawyer, United States Ambassador to Vienna, his son, also named Quincy Adams, came into possession of the remnants of what had once been a large fortune. The fortune, however, had been greatly impaired, as the tastes of the senior Quincy Adams Sawyer had developed more in the direction of adventure and travel than in that of sober business, a fact which led eventually to bad investments and disastrous results.
Fans of the first two Quincy Adams Sawyer books should be warned that the main character here appears to be a totally different person. The plot developments of the other books are completely disregarded and none of the other characters carry over into this one. I wouldn't recommend it unless you are a diehard fan of early detective fiction.
*The affair of the double thumb print-- The affair of the golden belt-- The affair of Unreachable Island-- *The affair of Trimountain Bank-- The affair of Lamson's cook-- *The affair of the Plymouth recluse-- *The affair of William Baird, P.B.--
Quincy Adams Sawyer is a private detective operating in Boston during the 1920s. He is frequently assisted by a police detective named Gates. I think the affair of Lamson's cook is the best one. It was included in The American Rivals of Sherlock Holmes Librivox edition.
These stories are included in the book: The affair of the double thumb print--The affair of the golden belt--The affair of Unreachable Island--The affair of Trimountain Bank--The affair of Lamson's cook--The affair of the Plymouth recluse--The affair of William Baird, P. B.
This is an Arno Press 1976 reprint of this book originally published in the 1920's.
