Hers, Untamed

Rate this book
Alyssa Cressfield always wanted a pet—a big, sexy man who would look impressive on a leash. Now, she is finally ready to realize her dream. She visits a pet training center, intending to buy a trained pet. Instead she finds Jax, a fierce human-alien hybrid freshly caught from space, still untamed and unbroken. Alyssa has never encountered an untamed pet before. She can’t resist temptation; she must have him.

On Silenia, it is customary for humans to keep other intelligent species as pets and sex toys. Alyssa is kind at heart, but she is a product of her society and therefore sees nothing wrong with keeping a man in a cage against his will. Jax, on the other hand, is a space pirate who now finds himself wearing a collar and being treated like property. He has no intention of turning tame and obedient, and a battle of wills ensues. Jax and Alyssa quickly discover their undeniable chemistry, but is it enough to reconcile them? What happens when the pet breaks out of his cage?

Note to reader: This is a standalone novel featuring a romance between a human and a human-alien hybrid. While not dark, the story is set in a dystopian society and contains some raunchy sex scenes between the main characters. Recommended for mature readers.

My name is Anna, I'm an erotic romance author, and my goal in life is never to have another writer's block. I've been in love with action and futuristic stuff from an early age, whether it's in books, movies, or video games. More recently, I also developed a taste for steamy romances. The stories in my head contain these elements in different combinations and I look forward to putting them all on (virtual) paper - for my own amusement, if nothing else. I live in Germany with my husband, my overactive imagination, and pipe dreams of fortune and glory.

“All right, cutie, I’ve had enough. I’m getting the hell out of here now. Open this fucking cage.”

One of the reasons I love reading sci-fi is because with every book there is always the chance to explore a new world and a different culture even if the story is about us, humans. “Hers, Untamed” takes place in Silenia, a human colony on a planet far from earth created to mine ore and send it back to earth. The reason, though Silenia is the subject of this book is not because of its rare ore, but because of its people’s unusual habit to keep as pets, aliens from other planets.
“Wild! Untrained! What are they like when freshly caught?”

It was quite interesting reading about Silenia’s culture and seeing the various businesses and products that have been created in order for Silenians to keep aliens as pets. The most peculiar thing though in the story was the main characters themselves, Alyssa was born into the culture of Silenia and meant everything she said when she explained to the hero what his role was and what she expected his behavior to be. Of course, this book wouldn’t be as entertaining without Jax’s reactions to all the ridiculous things Alyssa expected from him.

The conversations between them started out very funny, but as the story progressed they became more and more meaningful and by the end of the book those conversations helped them both understand the difference between being forced to belong to someone and devoting yourself to someone freely.
“I’m his now.”

If there is one thing that I didn’t like was the fact that a lot of the sex scenes where over the top, spankings, wigs, tails, handcuffs and all that from two people who said they hadn’t experience kink before. Not only were they able to perform the acts correctly on their first try, but they did so without doing the proper negotiations people usually do in order to understand what someone likes and doesn’t like.

It also didn’t help that the erotic theme was very intense without much romance to balance it, if the characters weren’t focused on Jax’s captivity, then they were thinking/talking/doing sex. I would have liked to see them spending more time connecting to each other and have intimate moments that didn’t lead to sex.

*3.5 Stars*

I voluntarily reviewed the free copy that I received.

This was a different one, I've read a few pet scenario types of romances previously but what I liked best about this one was how it was flipped on its head and instead of the usual male owner, female pet trope, here it was switched and Jax is the one who is the new pet.

So this takes place on an exclusive mining colony planet Jax is captured and is considered an untrained wild exotic hybrid he's part human mixed with alien, highly desirable on Silenia as a pet. Alyssa is in the market for an owned companion and instead of choosing an easy option, she takes the Exitoc Hybrid fresh in at Interstellar Pet Training Inc. naming him Jax.

Jax is not a fan of his new situation, the cage, collar and being controlled. What he does like is his new mistress Alyssa so it's no hardship to play nice until he finds a weakness to exploit. He's determined to escape this nutty planet where senitant individuals are owned just because there not completely human and when he does eventually break his chains he plans to take full advantage of both the opportunity to escape and his sexy mistress Alyssa.

This was a great read it was well written and both Alyssa and Jax had great chemistry together. The sexy scenes were hot and the bond these two forged seemed authentic and believable. This pleasantly surprised me it was much better than anticipated.

I’m giving this story a rather tentative 3 stars. Here’s the thing: a lot of readers aren’t going to like this book. It’s firmly in the Erotic Fiction category—not romance as purported. There’s quite a bit of king, some taboo leanings, and there’s a lot of explicit sex. It’s going to be too much for some readers to handle, particularly if they go into the book expecting a romance. If those things don’t interest you, you’re going to want to move on.

That being said, I did have some gripes of my own. Although the level of kink and explicit sex in this book aren’t what I’m personally interested in, they don’t bother me. I read a lot of books, most of those falling squarely in the romance and erotica genres. What does bother me is the very clear association in this book with slavery and abuse. If this story took place in the real world, it wouldn’t be sexy—it’d be horrifying. There are many individuals in the book that are kidnapped, held against their will, mentally broken, and then forced to perform as pets for the wealthy. No matter how it’s justified in the book, it’s wrong. It’s hard for me to appreciate a book that relies on sex and romance to blind the reader to the fact that the main male lead has had his basic rights violated in this manner.

That being said, the book was well written. The romance was steamy, I adored the male lead as a character, and it had a happy ending. All of these are good things—but that doesn’t completely overshadow how intrinsically wrong the main premise of the story is. Even though I liked the book as a whole, I am very uncomfortable with the slavery aspect of its plotline. Because it’s fiction and everything worked out in the end, I’m willing to try to look past the less-than-savory aspects of the plot, but that doesn’t mean they don’t bother me. A lot of readers are not going to enjoy this book because of it.

Another thing I didn’t enjoy was the portrayal of the main female lead. Despite her purported intelligence and expertise, she came across as naïve, wanton, and rather airheaded. She was clever only when it served to thwart the main male lead, but refused to use her intellect to question her own society and their treatment of outside life forms. She questioned nothing that went against her own brainwashed utopian beliefs—and I find it hard to believe that someone so intelligent wouldn’t ask questions.

Overall, it was a fun read. There were definitely parts of the story I enjoyed and some I didn’t, but throughout, I was thoroughly entertained. This book isn’t for everyone. If you’re a sensitive reader, I’d recommend looking for something a bit more traditional, but if you enjoy a taste of the taboo, this is a safe way to be entertained for a few hours.

Reread 2021

I gave this a reread because I consider Anna a friend and I was very curious about the newly released audiobook. Especially because Anna narrated it herself.

I don't have much new to say about the story, but I can say that her narrator was good. Her voice is soft and inviting, and she had a clear difference in tone between characters and narration.
I think the only problem I had was the fact that her voice for Jax was a lot lower than everything else, so I at times had to pump the volume up a bit when he talked.

I'm keeping the original rating.

--------------------
This book was a lot of fun!
I picked it up when getting into a conversation with the author, thinking I could give it a chance as it was free and all. I'm not a big reader of romance or erotica, so I was a little skeptical, but decided to read it when I needed something a little lighter than my current read.
And I'm so glad I did!

''Hers, Untamed'' was a lot of fun, both the story and the sex-part of it.
It's a sci-fi story, set on a mining planet where everyone are rather rich. Our protagonist buys a pet, which on this planet means a human/alien hybrid or alien that will work as her companion, and maybe sex-partner.

I have to admit I was a bit disturbed by the whole society of owning humanoids as pets, putting them in cages and showing them of as property. I know it is a part of our own history, but it's a part I find disturbing, and it didn't help here.
Things turn out well here, though, although I'm not the biggest fan of one or the other being ''in control'' in a relationship, either way.

That said, I repeat myself, saying that this was a lot of fun.
The story is interesting and strong, even without the sexual parts. The sexual parts were a lot of fun to read as well, I will admit that, and they were well written as well!

That is something in general with this book. It is rather well written, and compared to other erotica books I've read (not that many, I'll admit) it was a filling and interesting read!
I ended up buying the author's other book as well.

I said it many times I am a fan of aliens. That said, when I saw this book, I thought it might be interesting to see how the author would pull the pet part and make it believable. Well, not only it was but I also had a few giggles reading how the alien 'pet' reacted to his new environment. Now let me be clear that I didn't find it okay to imprison someone and call it a pet but I could see how some civilizations could actually think it's ok.

The thing is while I knew it would be romance—the headless torso was a sure sign—I had no idea it would be erotica also. For those who like loads of sex scenes, this one is for you. Me? I usually stay away from the genre because of the lack of story, but I think this one delivered in every aspects: fun, unique, hot sex, and story.

An erotic romance was rather a departure for me - I don't even tend to read much romance! But I thoroughly enjoyed this - while I expected lots of steamy scenes (of which there were plenty!), I hadn't expected the sci-fi elements to play through so well, and for there to be such interesting questions raised on how we define humanity.

For me personally, I'd have loved to see the world of Silenia explored a little further, and maybe some exploration of how they came to be such an insular world. But that would have been a very different book, and probably a very different genre. I still rate it 5/5 for pure enjoyment!

**May 2025 Reread**

The smut is still smutting in this book. The culture in Silenia is deplorable but Alyssa didn't know any better until she met "Jax". Owning another creature, "training" them until they became docile and lose all personality, and then expecting them to be grateful? 😐

Anyway, this was a fast, fluffy, smutty read. I loved that they were both desperate for each other because it made the scenes🔥. That scene at the port made me tear up though so I'm very happy with how the book ended.

I just know I will reread this again in the future.

**Jan 2024 Review**

Good and smutty read

This is like someone's dirty fantasy brought to life in a book.

Aliens (humanoids) are treated as pets - to show off, to train, to have sex with? It's very close to sex slavery so if you like that, you might enjoy this book too. It's complete with an electronic collar, handcuffs, leash, etc.

Alyssa gave off the feel of an unusual Silenian because unlike other owners, she wanted a pet that can interact with her and be her companion - that's why she chose the untamed alien she named "Jax" and oh boy, did she get all that and more.

It's straight up smut and the reversal of the owner being owned by the pet was fire.

Before the end I almost worried that it's not gonna end up happy... But that wasn't the case.

It definitely reminded me of Choosing Theo because Jax was an outcast and considered undesirable elsewhere until he gets to Silenia and meets Alyssa.

Might reread in the future when my sci-fi/alien romance craving hits again.

So, just like my last Anna Adler read, I picked this book up without the intention of finishing it that night. Alas, that did not happen.

Alyssa lives on Silenia, a far and fictitious planet. On Silenia, it is common for the humans to keep alien species as pets. Often, the pets are bought with the intention of becoming a sexual partner/companion. While at a "pet shop", Alyssa is mesmerized by a human-alien hybrid that's kept in a different section because he's untrained and violent, thus, not for sale. Alyssa refuses to take no for an answer and the next morning, her rebellious hybrid pet is delivered. She names him Jax.

The story had just enough detail about the environment, so it was informative without weighing down the plot. AKA it wasn't boring. The language and writing flowed very well, the dialogue especially.

Jax. He's crude and offensive and has zero filter and I love him. Despite his resistance to Alyssa's control and his insistance on escaping, he still manages to develop a meaningful and sort of honest relationship with her. Their chemistry is tense and pairs perfectly with Jax's angsty demeanor once he gets his hands on Alyssa. Simply, it's hot.

Alyssa evolved and grew, just like a character should. The more time she spent with Jax, the more she began to understand that keeping people as pets because they're of a different species and exotic, well, maybe that isn't so admirable. There was no "a-ha" moment. Instead, she observed things around her and actually learned from her mistakes.

I'm not a big sci-fi romance reader, so it's a pretty big deal to me that I liked Hers, Untamed so much. I guess I should start keeping a more open mind to the genre, huh?

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was a reversal of the usual plotline ie the male was bought as a pet. I liked the couples interactions (they do steam up the pages) and Alyssa's growing awareness of her pet's equality (granted it takes most of the book but hey, there is a hea).

The beginning of this book was almost painful in how the characters were presented as shallow and the society as simple. However, the rest of the story was quite enjoyable, with the princess showing some spine, and a fine HEA followed. The sex scenes were pretty good, if unimaginative.

An interesting si-fi erotica romance.

When Alyssa brings home her untamed pet (pet here meaning trained alien-human being) she is exited to see what challenges awaits her; she did all the research and is determined to be the best pet trainer around.

However, this particular being came to her untrained and with a rebellious side. Soon the two of them end up becoming more like a couple than the owner/pet relationship that society expects... and society does not like it.

A hot and romantic story, but I was disappointed in such a heavy HEA. I wish there was more conflict, or a cliffhanger that meant there was more of these two to look forward to so 4.5 stars. A strange yet fascinating read that I didn't want to put down.

On paper, this seems like a book I wouldn't like at all: paranormal romance isn't my thing (I can't find non-human sex sexy) and, because it's clear from the off that Jax is not happy about being kept as a "pet", I thought I was going to have massive issues with consent. Any book with non-consensual sex dressed up as romance would be a DNF and in the bin for me.

But, as evidenced by the five stars, this wasn't a problem. The book was really all about consent (rather than consent issues being glossed over) and Anna Adler handled it brilliantly.

The writing is clean and uncomplicated, which I LOVE, and Alyssa's voice was utterly charming - happy and innocent and straightforward without being childlike or one dimensional. That was a stoke of genius from the author, because it made it impossible not to like Alyssa even with the problematic power imbalance that exists at first. I felt very much for Jax being a prisoner, but I also felt for Alyssa who wasn't doing anything wrong according to the society she grew up in, and who only wanted to make him (and herself) happy.

And the sex scenes were hot! I usually avoid paranormal romance because I can't find non-human sex sexy... but Jax is very human-like, and very sexy.

I am, on the other hand, a sci-fi fan, and I liked the sci-fi elements here. It's not hard sci-fi by any means but the sci-fi elements are realistic and well-integrated. No info dumps or ridiculous science.

One of my markers of a good romance is that the 'black moment' is convincing. We all know romances end in a happily-ever-after, but the best ones have me worried that the author has committed that most heinous sin and not given us a HEA. HERS, UNTAMED had me worried, and my heart was in my mouth (and aching for Alyssa) until it was over.

This was a very, very smooth read and I loved every second of it. Alyssa and Jax feel entirely like real people to me, and I would love to be friends with them both.

I can't really think of any negatives except that it's over, and I want more!

Let me start off by saying I can see what the author was going for. However, I just couldn’t get past the H being the h’s pet. And it wasn’t even that because I read a lot of books where the roles are reversed and I have no problem. The problem I had with this book, was the way that the h acted about it. She didn’t know any better yes, but the H is literally telling her how sick and messed up it is and she doesn’t care at all. I just didn’t like it and couldn’t get into it.

Alyssa pays half a million credits for Jax, her new pet. Jax is the name she gave the human-alien hydrid fighting his captors when she went to look. But Jax is not a pet, nor the sex toy Alyssa wants him for. He will, however, play nicely to get what he wants, his freedom. Will Alyssa let him go??

At first, I didn't like this book. Mainly because of Alyssa herself. She is a spoilt brat, who thinks it's perfectly acceptable to keep a man in a cage, to walk him on a leash. But Alyssa is a product of her upbringing, her culture. And as she gets to know Jax, she also gets to know a bit more about her people, and their opinion of and the way they treat their "pets" She begins to see that maybe, just maybe, this is not the way they should treat people.

And she does redeem herself beautifully!! Oh it takes her time to do that and she does use Jax in many ways, not that he really objected to having Alyssa touch him the way she does but he has to show some objection, right??

It's very well written, with all the technology of the time and place fairly easy to understand and picture, lots of common words are used for various things so it wasn't taxing on the brain. It's sexy in places, a bit heart stopping in others. I really really enjoyed it.

BUT!!!

Only Alyssa has her say. And I so desperately wanted to hear from Jax! Like, I'm reading along, waiting, waiting, preying, begging and pleading that we'd hear from Jax and we don't. And when I realised I wouldn't get to hear from him, I spat my dummy out, threw my toys out the pram and had a full on hissy fit!! Because I have no doubt at all, had Jax been given a proper voice, I would have enjoyed this immensely more, even with my dislike of Alyssa in the beginning, and this would have been a five star review.

I loved the Adler tells her tale, and I would like to read more by this author. This is the first of her work I've read.

So, ONLY because Jax doesn't get a say..........

4 stars

Surprisingly Good

So the blurb for this book made it sound a bit racy and admittedly caught my attention for that reason. The storyline is actually well developed and the characters grow throughout the book. While reading this for the steam I actually found myself caught up in the story and really enjoyed it.

Alyssa is a single woman who just turned 35, and she describes herself as wealthy and spoiled. She lives on a planet which is a distant colony for Earth where the population is controlled and the acceptance of off-planet visitors is strictly restricted.

She decides to purchase herself an alien pet which will be both an accessory as well as a companion with the potential for sexual benefits. (Within a few paragraphs I was thinking Paris Hilton and a MUCH larger chihuahua.). So she visits the Interplanetary Pet Training facility to pick out her pet and none of the tamed pets really draw her attention for more than a moment, and then she is shown a newly acquired human-alien hybrid that is untamed. She decides this is the one.

‘Jax’ is delivered to Alyssa’s home tranquillized and in a box. The delivery crew put him in his cage in her living room. He wakes up extremely angry and in disbelief as Alyssa describes his new role as a pet.

Alyssa is super enamored with her pet and thinks that providing a pet with shelter, food and love they are living their best life. Her perspective is challenged by Jax and his disgust with being kept as a pet. Her society is extremely sheltered and she’s never thought of the previous lives of pets before they are captured. The relationship between Jax and Alyssa is tense and compassionate, with significant sexual tension.

Jax has been treated horribly prior to becoming a pet where human woman (who he is attracted to) see him as a freak and avoid/shun him, and his differences on Alyssa’s planet make him highly exotic and desirable.

The storyline has some surprising moments and an emotional connection develops between them beyond just sexual chemistry.

I received an ARC from the author and voluntarily decided to review.

Alyssa is finally ready to purchase a pet. Not just any pet, a pet for pleasure. No cat or dog will do. She wants more, she wants a companion, a lover. While browsing for her pet, she comes across an untamed. He is what she wants. Exotic, dangerous, sexy, and a hybrid - half human and half alien. Alyssa is warned that he isn't trained, she wants him anyhow and within days he is installed at her apartment.

Jax is confused by Alyssa. She treats him well, but he is her sexual pet. He doesn't understand why she can't see how wrong this is. She cares for him, treats him well, but won't let him touch her or out of his damn cage! Jax wants to get his hands on Alyssa in more ways than one. If only Jax would cooperate with Alyssa, she could give him more freedom. Freedom to roam the apartment, take walks, touch her. But he can't reign in his aggression and temper. They both know that first chance Jax gets he is gone. He is not broken like the other pets. He still has a will to live and escape.

Can this ever work? Can Alyssa see Jax as more than a pet? Could she ever love him?

To say I enjoyed this book is an understatement. I started this book at noon, by 5 pm I was done. I needed to know what was going to happen between Jax and Alyssa. The steamy sex scenes really added to the store and made it more enjoyable. Ms. Adler created a realistic world and characters. I fell in love with Jax from the moment Alyssa met him. And from the moment Alyssa met Jax she was slowly changing. She went from owner to being owned. I will admit that at 90% I began to worry and cry - a lot. I was freaked out and hoping it was just a dream. Then the book ended and I was heart broke all over again. No more Alyssa and Jax! Now what??

I was expecting a spicy sci-fi romance with some BDSM flair, but it was a mixed bag that left me conflicted. Anna Adler’s writing is decent—things move at a quick clip without feeling rushed, which kept the pacing smooth. But the story’s premise made me squirm, and not in a good way.

The setup, which involves a slavery dynamic, was uncomfortable from the jump. I related to the male lead’s unease about being treated as a “pet,” and that vibe made it tough to get into the story. I pushed through, hoping it would improve, but the constant power struggle between the leads—always trying to one-up each other and “win”—felt more like a battle of domination than a romance built on trust. The tagline about the pet breaking out of his cage isn’t just a metaphor; it’s a literal plot point that leads to some steamy scenes. But even those fell flat for me because they were just domination flipped, not genuine connection.

That said, the ending was surprisingly sweet, offering a bit of warmth that softened the rough edges. The sci-fi world is intriguing enough, with some cool ideas that add flavor to the setting. The characters, while caught in this exhausting power game, had moments of depth that kept me reading. Aimed at adults, this book is definitely for fans of BDSM erotica who don’t mind a heavy dose of power dynamics and can stomach the uncomfortable slavery angle.

If that initial premise puts you off, it’s a hard hurdle to clear, but if you can get past it, the quick pacing and decent writing make it somewhat worth the read. I’m not rushing to recommend it, though—it’s too focused on domination over trust for my taste, and the spice didn’t hit like I hoped.

Final Thoughts: Hers, Untamed is a fast-paced sci-fi erotica with a sweet ending but an uncomfortable slavery premise and repetitive power struggles. Okay for BDSM fans, but not my cup of tea. 3/5 stars.

This had to have been one of the strangest books I've ever read..lol. The synopsis of the book totally caught my interest, but the actual storyline...strange doesn't begin to cover it. The whole idea of people owning other people was not a new concept, but treating them like glorified dogs...well that was totally new to me.

Seeing an alpha male like Jax caged up and being subjected to baths and leashes, that shit was not attractive at all, though I will admit his was an entertaining plight. His escape attempts, his seduction attempts..while basically futile were fun to read. He was a man on a mission and was determined to have his freedom. Loved his character, personality and best of all his dirty mouth! Dude cussed worse than a fucking sailor!!!

Alyssa was actually really sweet, though sadly misguided. It felt like she had blinders on when it came to her society, she thought her world was perfect and I guess in a sense for her it was. It took meeting and falling in love with her 'pet' for her to realize there was so much more to life than blindly following some stupid ass rules. Hers was a character you truly love to hate but end up thawing towards her as she really wasn't a bad person.

Overall it was a very interesting read with wickedly hot but kinky sex, it was well written with little to no grammatical errors. The author kept me interested enough to finish this strange book, my first time read by AA and I will admit to looking forward to reading more of her work.

A fascinating read where humans keep aliens and hybrids as pets. Essentially, these pets are treated the same as a person would treat any domestic dog or cat on earth that is “part of the family”, except for the fact that they are humanoid.
At the start of the book Alyssa comes across as a conceited, rich, spoilt brat. She lives on Silenia, and as with most of its locals, she wants a pet that she can use to stroll through the streets while others admire her. Alyssa decides on a hybrid, a newly acquired (untrained) pet at Interstellar Pet Training Inc. and names him Jax. But Jax has other plans and just wants to escape from all the craziness.
This book had me frowning quite a bit. Not because of the writing style, which I can’t fault in the least, but purely because I really enjoyed reading it but felt guilty at the same time because the “pets” are essentially slaves but then again, they aren’t, as they are loved and cared for, only being reprimanded when misbehaving --- yeah, confusing. Thank goodness all’s good in the end and my emotions settled.
So, even with all the confusion, I can say I really enjoyed this read. It was a fun, dirty romance and dare I say, I too want a pet like Jax.

This book premise is all kinds of messed up. Humans on this rich ass planet keep other species and even human-alien hybrids as pets. First they "train" them which amounts to psychological and physical torture until their spirit and personalities are broken.

Out 'heroine' buys an untrained pet with the intention to train him herself as a sex pet. Which is gross in my opinion. if it's a pet and not a sentient species then it can't give consent for sex. and if it can give consent for sex then its .... I'm just grossed out. Ok?

She get her new pet home and over two weeks they fall in love and she helps him escape and he asks her to come with him. By now she's started questioning the way her world is set up. Is this pet keeping thing right? She never goes so far as to question it wholly, only to accept that her pet doesn't want it.

In the end she does the right thing and helps him escape.

Damn if it wasn't a premise that makes me feel dirty and not in a good way.

The sex scenes were ok. Not the best but not the worst.

I found this book delightful. A romance between a spoiled human and her captive half-alien offers a lot of opportunities for conflict, and Anna Adler has made good use of them. The characters immediately became real to me, in all their flawed, conflicted glory, as did the way they interacted with each other. I couldn’t wait to see if they could resolve their vast differences.

The world of Silenia is alien, but it felt entirely believable even though most of it is shown by implication. Hers, Untamed might be science fiction, but it’s really all about the characters (and a lot of explicit sex). I loved both the main characters, and found very satisfying how they drove the plot and grew over the book.

The writing is generally unobtrusive. It does slip into awkward exposition on occasion, but not enough to stop me getting caught up in the story world.

Overall, “Hers, Untamed” was a highly enjoyable and steamy read.

I beta read this book and chose to write a review.

I picked this up because of a one-star review on Amazon. Anytime lady parts get in the way of the story development, I'm totally intrigued. I mean, my lady parts aren't that talented.

Alyssa, our heroine, is the product of her planet's laws and perceptions of success. (Aren't we all). And yeah, it's uncomfortable that their beliefs allow for the owning of other beings. I love to be uncomfortable in a book. It means I'm thinking. She wants a pet to achieve status and happiness that eludes her. And then she selects an untrained/untamed pet which is exactly what she needs to disrupt her world beliefs and start her arc.

Great world-building. I loved the power exchange between Alyssa and Jax. I loved Alyssa's grand gesture. I could not put this book down. This was a wonderful example of a character arc - as clear as a neon sign. And I'm still not sure what that reviewer meant - but perhaps he's more comfortable with traditional sci-fi rather than sci-fi erotic romance.

Jax and Alyssa

Silenia is a planet where it is customary for its residents to own species from other planets and call them "pets."

Unaware that this is uniquely executed on Silenia alone, Alyssa follows other citizens lead and eagerly purchases herself a pet with money she saved up.

The selection is large; however, she wants the "untamed" half human, half hybrid at the facility.

He's the most beautiful species she has ever witnessed. The moment their eyes meet she knows he's the one she wants to take home.

She names decides to name him: Jax. But on her journey to "train" Jax, she discovers that maybe he is way more than what she originally thought.

Is Jax a pet or the most beautiful and important person to ever come along in her life?

Is she willing to let him out his caged existence?

Is she willing to set him free?

Is he a pet or a man? Her man?

This has to be the cutest and hottest m/f romance I've read in some time. The story begins when Allysa decides to buy a pet and ends up picking one who's untamed and possibly dangerous. Being an alien-human hybrid, Jax has a body that puts other pets to shame. Allysa really can't wait to show him off, but she has to get him to behave before she dares take him out in public. The captivity aspect with Allysa in charge of the vicious, unpredictable Jax is so hot and daring. Though Allysa is so sweet that I was sure she was going to fail in her task of training him, the story takes unexpected turns that flip their master slave dynamic on its head. I really loved this light-hearted sexy romance and the ending just made me melt. I definitely look forward to reading more from this author.

Love it!

Spoiled rich smart human woman wants a pet but not just any pet - an alien pet. After reading, researching and prepping her home, Alyssa was ecstatic on getting her very own pet. She was shallow enough to bask in the admiration and adoration of others for her new acquisition. But she needed her pet first. Jax was captured bounty of a space ship battle loss. Tossed in a cage and tagged like an animal, Jax least expected to meet a beautiful human female. But escaping was goal number one. These two have explosive chemistry but will they each get their hearts desires?
Very good read.

THIS WAS SOOOooo GOOD! PULLED ME OUT OF MY READING SLUMP....

#petfetish

I've read sci-fi erotica where the woman was purchased as a pet slave, and it's delightful to read a version where the man was the pet instead. THIS WAS CUTE AND WHOLESOME, I devoured every conversation between the MCs. While there was attraction, it wasn't insta-love and I enjoyed every moment where Alyssa and Jax went from vigilant pet owner + pet to lovers + accomplices.

I DIDN'T WANT IT TO END!! Anna Adler's my new favourite sci-fi author if all the stories she writes is this wonderful.
