I just bought this book and it's gorgeous!! I love scrapbooks and pop up books (never too old for these)!

It's about the movie, mostly about Newt and his animals, friends, New York, but not about fashion, I wish there was a book like this about the fashion of the era; I loved the clothes in the movie.

Flapper fashions are definitely one of the most iconic features of the 1920s, and Queenie dresses the part in the film. The costume designer created Qunnie's look to reflect her carefree and fun personality, inspired by real flappers of that era.

I LOVED the cards, maps and letters. I really wish the same playing cards would be sold in full set.

Newt Scamander: A Movie Scrapbook by Candlewick Press

★★★★★
Genre: Nonfiction/Movie Companion
Release Date: November 2016
Source: Bought with Birthday Money
On My Shelf: Yes

Synopsis

A collection of facts, information, and interactive props that went into the making of the movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

Review

I picked this book up with some birthday money, and I’m so freaking glad I did! This book was so fun to read through, and I loved every second of it–especially how interactive it was. There were so many fun things to pull out, flip through, and admire.

It was interesting and enjoyable to experience all the fun little extras that go with the movie and to laugh a bit more with the characters and learn a little about the production. I will say, though, that if you’re looking for an in-depth examination of the making of the movie, this is not the book that is going to give you that. But, if you are looking for a beautiful, interactive book with fun tidbits scattered throughout, then I highly recommend checking this one out.

When I say this book is beautiful, I really mean it. This book is so aesthetically pleasing I may have drooled a bit while reading it. This is a gorgeous addition to my shelf and to my Harry Potter collection. I’m so in love with it.

I definitely recommend this book to anyone who thinks it sounds interesting or anyone looking to add to their Harry Potter collection. This is a beautiful book I know I will enjoy flipping through again and again!

I bought this book mostly for the little extras that come with it, such as character cards, newspaper ads, pull-out maps, etc. Even then, I would say it's not worth the list price of $20. With sales and coupons, I got it for a little more than $9 and even then I'm questioning whether it's worth it. It's a small book and not TOO detailed, but you do get to learn a little more about Newt than was shown in the movie:

- He's a Hufflepuff!
- He was expelled from Hogwarts
- He spent the year before this movie takes place alone.
- He participated in WWI.

You do get to learn more about the creatures, their habitats, it even includes a feeding schedule. It has pictures of the character's wands, so there is quite a bit to see. But there are just so many books published about the movie, I think others probably do a more detailed job.

Cute little book about Newt Scamander and his fantastic world. Loved the beautiful images and concept designs and of course the little removable accessories. The designers put so much thought into this. Unfortunately the texts are really really short and we barely learn anything that wasn't already mentioned in the film. So only four stars from me.

As much as the book is written quite simply, it’s not too wordy when explaining the different elements of the film. I really like the backstage stuff.
I think the added elements of the paper props throughout the scrapbook added to the experience.

This is a fun book, full of pop outs, pictures, and removable art work. It's a little lean on info, nothing really new to be found, but it was a great little book to peruse, taking me less than an hour from cover to cover.

So much fun information was packed in here but I was kinda disappointed at how little interactive elements there were.

A fun interactive scrapbook all about the first Fantastics Beasts and Where to Find Them film. I would have like to see more “insider” knowledge about the making of the film, but I still had a fun time reading through this book. This is the perfect passenger seat car ride book - it doesn’t take a lot of intense focus, it’s lighthearted and it’s entertaining!

Really underestimated this little scrapbook as it was a great insider of Fantastic Beasts with Newt and his beasts. The little craft surprises always win me over and a lot of these ones were different. Once again, added to my collection. 5stars.

I picked this up at a supermarket for about a third of the retail price, which was a complete steal for this beautiful book. This is not a complex guide for the film but rather a collection of beautiful pictures, illustrations and little facts. Plus I love the little pull out bits like maps and playing cards. Now I've read this (which took about 20 minutes tops) I'm probably not going to pick it up much but it's going to look fantastic on my bookshelf with my other Harry Potter/JK Rowling/Fantastic Beasts stuff. Such a great book and a lovely piece.

Interesting little bits of behind-the-scenes info, but ultimately it did not add much to my understanding of the film or characters.

It did mention that in the original film Jacob had a fiancee who dumps him immediately following his failure to secure funding from the bank to open his bakery.

This was fun little book to read for the NEWTs readathon.
I liked the behind-the-scenes stuff but there just wasn't enough of it. Most of it was just what happened in the movie or the first Fantastic Beasts book. I did really like the creatures section, even though I already knew the facts about them, because it put a name to all the ones we saw in the movie.

This book is so cool. I love scrapbook type books. I love finding little envelopes and seeing what's inside them. It makes the book more interactive which is very fun. A must have for fans of Fantastic Beasts and Harry Potter collectors alike.

Insanely in love with the series of FBaWTFT, their movies and the ways they tell the stories. Although I do appreciate the old fictions by J. K. Rowling compared to the new publishing of screenplay directly. However, I got this book because I'm also madly in love with the crafts, cards and the artistic posters that come with them. The Fantastic Beasts with their own Magical Congress of different countries, Spell Contraventions, little references to the real case scenario throughtout history yet making things more magical including the way they would like to wipe out the witches before knowing them just seem so great at expressing the unexpressed in human history. The ways we see how Credence Barebone becomes the unexpected villain from a child who's only longing for love also gives insane surprises. Okay, I shall not be continuing this or it would have spoilers. I'd just like to recommend the entire series as the origin to the wizarding world before Hogwarts. Newt and Tina as totally different countries' wizards getting along well is also another big thing that is so warm and lovely as well. By the way, thanks to whoever made the Ministration Chart to assist magical creature welfare and development because it gave me inspiration in mixing and matching elements creatively although the chart's originally used by Newt for his way of feeding or caring for the lovely magical animals in unique ways, knowing their habitat, terrain godes, classification of behaviour, etc. Yes! Every being is absolutely unique! Unexplored features of the beings deserve unique ways of experiences too! Thanks, with love.

As much as I love the plethora of Harry Potter books which explore the cinematic wizarding that are being released, I'm getting vaguely annoyed with how brief they all are! I guess they just want to sell more merchandise, rather than investing hte time and resources into a definitive volume for each film or series of films. That being said, this small book provides a good introduction to many of the key themes, characters, and concepts from the first Fantastic Beasts movie, and was well-designed to appeal to younger readers. Those of us in the elder generation of Harry Potter fans will obviously be looking for more content and commentary, but the whimsical format and concise organization will still appeal to our memories of similar types of books which were around when we were younger.

When I was a teenager and this movie first came out (it was 2016. What a time to come of age) I was seriously obsessed with it for no reason I can articulate, so I watched it like 5 times. I mean, I would still watch it because the nostalgia just makes me very fond of Newt and his world. Fun little book. Nothing groundbreaking but it has little add-ins and some info about the making of the film, although very surface-level. I would have liked it to be longer.

I'll leave it in a little free library near my house and hope some child gets introduced to this series and perhaps develop a weird unexplainable obsession for it the way I did. Now that nearly a decade has passed since it was first released, it only feels right to pass on the torch.

I love the Harry Potter universe, but I just can't rate this well. There was some interesting information, but it was *so* short - even avoiding spoilers, the author could've done more with this, especially since it was as much about the behind-the-scenes as it was about the characters and creatures. The pull-outs that were included are a good example of where the publisher could've done more, too: they weren't well thought out at all - they could've done with more, they needed to fit better with the theme of the pages there were on, and the were even a couple (the maps that bookend . . . the book . . .) that could've used an explanation.
