There's a monster before me that's killing everything I believe in.A villain that sees me for what I'm worth and wants the pound of flesh I've offered up as repayment for my sins. The burden I carry is heavy on my shoulders, but as pieces of me are stripped away to bare the horrors within, I can feel myself becoming worthy of the pain.I'm not a monster. No matter how much it hurts to admit it, and no matter how terrible the truth will be when brought to light, I know that I'll end this cleansed and whole again. It's what I truly want and that's why I'm here. The nights are long and full of torturous deviance and yet I still manage to keep a smile on my face, because while the ultimate prize at the end of this game is to claim my life, there's a secret my tormentor doesn't know.If I go down, it will mean the end of both of us.

Yolanda Olson has mastered her style of writing. There's no denying that. This is my third title from her and, while each of the books are very similar in nature and style, they all have little differences that set them apart from one another. So this story didn't have dialogue until almost the halfway point, the characters have no names, and honestly, I finished the book with more questions than answers. You think at first it's just someone being held captive and being tortured. But randomly there are suddenly multiple people in play, still without names or clear reasons for being present. Then it possibly has to do with addiction? Then also maybe depression and suicide? Who was this tormentor and what did he want? Is he some sort of demon or a troubled person? Are these sick fantasies or visions of a terrible life before the character enters into death? Again, there was just a little too much mystery here, and things became too convoluted, leaving the desired impact fairly limp. I really wanted to like this more, but I needed some more concrete aspects of the story to make it work for me. If the author just honed in on one purpose, i.e. depression, instead of leaving all these other possibilities wide open, I would have rated this much higher.

This story left me speechless! It was dark, twisted, and gory! The dialogue was sparse! The characters didn’t have names!

**SPOILERS ALL OVER THE PLACE!!!****BEWARE!!!*****

At first glance this story appeared to be your run-of-the-mill horror treat. There’s a captive and her captor is ruthless. It’s unclear when or how they met and if this captive has anyone searching for her or concerned for her well-being. At one point the captor excises a chunk of the victim’s skin off her arm . . . He cuts into her with precision and expertise. It’s clearly not his first go-around with torture, but is the captive a willing victim? If so, why would anyone in their right mind sign up for this brutality?

▣ Some of the tormentor’s thoughts:

You’re so pretty when you smile. Have I told you this yet? I should have before I cut your tongue out so you could properly thank me, but to watch my seed slide down your chin into your waiting hands below tells me you’ve already begun to change your mind about this.

Tell me something about you, little girl. I know you can’t say it by parting your bruised and tattered lips, so tell me with your eyes. I’ll ask you a question―f*ck, sorry about that. I didn’t mean to pull so violently; that’s an amateur mistake, but see? We’ve almost degloved you in one fell swoop! That’s something to celebrate, isn’t it?

▣ This captor isn’t completely without a breath of remorse, though. He has a change of heart after cutting the captive’s tongue out and decides:

I may sew it back in. As a matter of fact, since the thought is playing in my mind, I may as well put it in the icebox. It’ll be more viable for us later than if I leave it on the floor rotting beside you.

▣ As the story unfolds the reader learns that the characters may be on an even playing ground after all, despite the dysfunctional thoughts they seem to share. The captive’s thoughts:

As I hold my hands up to the dim light in the room, I’m almost mesmerized by the way they look. The muscle, the bone, the sinew; all sitting so prominently in view when they should be hidden away from the elements. And yet, I find myself fascinated by what the body looks like underneath the skin. I find myself wanting to know what it tastes like, and that’s something I’ve never even dared to wonder before.

▣ This story is NOT what it appears to be on the surface! The degree to which the captor disfigured and mutilated his captive fell in line with the the way mental illness wrecks havoc on the human body and how individuals view themselves in the world around them. This story is more of a psychological torture/suspense read than horror read. The graphic descriptions of the harrowing abuse unleashed upon the female character were symbolic of the way mental illness shredded and hijacked her spirit, leading her to see, feel, think, and hear things that were imaginary. Or were they? She cycled through feeling numb and slightly hopeful, then accepting and even adapting to the distorted view of her tortured existence.

▣ So many more tidbits of symbolism were included, some I’m still trying to process. Reading this short story was truly an eye-opening experience! I’m blown away by the way the author drew the parallels between the perceived and the literal torture. It takes compassion and understanding (and maybe some experience?) to be able to draw a narrative as gruesome, realistic, and vivid as the one the captor endured. Is this the darkest book I’ve read? No, but many thanks to the author for sharing this insight!

Genre: Horror/Dark Suspense
Type: Standalone
POV: Shifting
Rating:

A woman with a heavy burden of her past sought unconventional retribution from a man who was more than willing to deliver. As she cleansed her soul, she must decide if she’s strong enough to choose the right path.

When I first started this book, I thought it was going to be a purposeless gore fest - which is something I’m not into. But I’m so glad it turned out to be much more.

A human mouth can exude one hundred and twenty pounds of pressure per bite and I will sever my own fucking fingers to get him off me. I will not die like this― fooled and taken advantage of by a villain that hasn’t earned the right to take my life.

It was very graphic and I’m sure I made some painful and disgusted faces while reading lol! In the beginning, it felt a bit off with the POVs, but as the story progressed and I started to figure things out, it made perfect sense why it was presented that way. I loved how it added dimension into the story.

How much more of myself must I willingly destroy to win the only victory that counts?

Anatomy is a story of choices and consequences. It would appeal to readers who enjoy dark, depraved read.

4 "You'll understand that in order to become a beautiful butterfly, you have to shed your ugly exterior." stars

Well this was interesting!!

"we’re going to make such a beautiful fucking mess out of you, and it would be a shame to get this far and let you go free, wouldn’t it?"

I don't want to say to much because I don't want to give anything away but this was a truly unique approach and I loved it! So different from others that I have read.

"Come here, little girl. Wrap your arms around your monster and sleep soundly."
"Rest, my beautiful monster. Know peace and relish your dreams. Soon, it will all come crashing down for both of us"

Thank you, Warhawke for the recommendation

Wow, just wow.
This book left me speechless, from the get go to the end, specially that ending, my jaw dropped from that ending, i wasn't expecting it at all.
When i started reading i got shocked, it was gruesome and quiet scary how well described those scenes were as though from own experience.

I started this book without reading the blurb. I do that more often than not ( Yolanda is a 1-click author for me ) and with my jaw to the floor and my eyes almost bulging out of their sockets I barely made it thought the prologue without throwing up in my mouth, lol. It's that good, gory, horrific and just like watching a car accident, I couldn't look away or put the book down.

Yolanda lures you in with Anatomy, I really loved the way in which it was written/told, like a narrator telling you a story. So if it's EXTREME HORROR in which your seeking then dive in and enjoy the twisted mind games that only Yolanda can give you.

I can confidently say that this is Yolanda's best work to date and I have loved many of her books but this one is now at the top spot.

Another amazing execution of the story. Holy moly and some broken down anatomy.

We're led right in the middle of the fray. Lost we are, but found it seems. Shrouded and clouded. Our visions are directed where we are made to look. Slow and agonizing, but surviving and craving... craving more.

So....

I was looking for something shocking, and I can definitely say it's not a read for the faint of hearts.
Yolanda Olson doesn’t shy away from heavy topics and gruesome details. And it's something I love about her writing.

To be honest reading sucha grafic description of tortures didn’t affect me that much ( maybe i should worry about my sanity 😅), but the bothering thing is that the whole story didn’t involve me that much either.
It was more curiousity about which twist would have waited for me at the end. And I was right 'cause I would have never guessed that ending.

Anatomy wasn’t a winning for me but it still proves the author' talent when it came to dark/horror romance.

Yolanda. I don't even know where to begin. This was one of those books that leave you with your jaw in your lap. And I'm sure you're Like "but they all do that?!" No, you don't understand. This puts a new meaning on mind fuck and plot twist. This puts a new meaning to carnage on one's feelings. This brings a whole new perspective to horror. This book, without giving spoilers, KILLS!! Do yourself a favor and read this. There is no way you'll be disappointed, and if you are, you must have read it wrong.

Being a huge fan of Yolanda Olson, I expected this new story to be an amazing read that will mess me up in all the right ways, but I never expected to fall in love with it as much as I did! I love moral dilemmas that Yolanda invariably poses for her readers: would you willingly entrust yourself into the hands of the monster who will bring his absolution for your sins but will require the highest price in exchange? And, if you’re able to survive through this experience, will you make the right choice in the end, when he offers it to you?
The premise of it, the masterfully created build-up leading up to an absolutely stunning ending hit me with all its force in all the right feels. The ending, just one little sentence was so emotionally charged that I literally had to sit and process it for a few minutes. A fabulous work, and a new favorite of mine by Yolanda! I wish I could give it more than five stars!

If you do not like gore, have a weak stomach or are faint of heart DO NOT READ this. As for the rest of the weirdos like me, well dive right on in.

This book left me wide eyed and gaping at my kindle screen in horror. Exactly what I want from a story of this genre and no less than what Yolanda Olson delivered to me.

This story read strangely, it felt partly like a monologue and partly like a regular narrative. Regardless of the structure it still sucked me straight into the weirdness. It was a strangely surreal story which created a drive in me to reach the end. I just had to know.

It was vivid, graphic, so intricate and finely detailed right down to the bone, I could picture it so clearly in my mind. (My hubs was laughing at my facial expressions as I read it.)

Theories ran rampant in my mind as I tried to figure out the idenity of the villain. Mortician? Serial killer? Crazed surgeon? It was a real mystery. Ill not spoil it though, you'll have to read it yourself.

You know, if you've read a book by Yolanda Olson, you expect certain things: horror, blood, twists, the unexplainable.
But I have yet to figure it out before a line. One line, toward the end of each book, and suddenly you're thrown for a loop. You see everything in the book laid out before you and want to perform a face palm that you didn't pick up on it before.
This book is no exception. You read it, and you wonder how this can happen. This is all imagination, this is all unreal, and then it happens. You find that line in the book, and it all fits.
The characters hold your attention, and the scenes are a hypnotizing blend of "could this be real, is it all a dream". Gripping and thought provoking, this is definitely a must read for everyone.
The gore has returned, and even with no holding back, if you can make it to the end, it will all be worth it.

Gator tails and tartar sauce, this one threw me for a loop.
Every time I thought I knew for sure what was going to happen, I was proven terribly wrong in the most amazing way.
I've considered Yolanda a master at mindwarps (can't use the other 4 lettered word I want) for some time but this one took the dang cake, ate it, and asked for ice cream too.
Well bleeping done!

She did it again

Yolanda played with my head.

I never loved and hated an author so much. I can see why her IG name is what it is. I love her writing and i hate myself for always falling for the twists.

This one is not for squeamish people but as with everything she writes it's freaking amazing.

Yolanda Olson is without a doubt, one of those rare 5-star authors. I've read quite a few of her books (reviews will be coming for those ones) and this one is definitely in my top three. Why? It has two of my favorite things: gore galore and a twist I never saw coming. It also, surprisingly, has feels, too; something you wouldn't expect from a book in the horror genre. When I got to the last page, I had to sit and stew in silence, while trying to hold back the tears. Trust me, this book is worth reading for that ending alone. Gah! Even now, days later, I'm still thinking about it. I can't remember the last time I read a book that stayed with me long after reading it (the last one was Inferno, also by Yolanda Olson). This book is one that will grab your attention from the very first word and keep it until well after the last; wonderfully told from a dual POV, you're able to fully immerse yourself into the characters' warped minds in a way that few other authors have the ability to do. This story is dark, beautifully twisted, and so darn good that I can't wait to read it over and over again. There aren't enough characters to list all of the possible triggers in this book, though, so consider this your warning: If there is anything that could cause a strong, and possibly damaging, emotional response for you, don't read this book. Otherwise, don't miss out on this truly masterful piece of literature. There is a reason that those who love Ms. Olson's books call her the Queen of Horror. She's done it yet again.

Anatomy deserves more than 5 stars, in my opinion. Just when I thought I had seen all of Yolanda's magic trick she pulls one last trick out of her dark and crazy little hat. If you know Yolanda and have experienced any of her masterpieces then you know that she likes to test your limits and then quickly snatch you back into your reality while leaving you wanting more from her dark and twisted world. Anatomy is that kind of book! From beginning to end I was on the edge of my seat biting my nails and questioning my sanity. When I reached the ending I realized exactly why. Never have I read any of Yolanda's books and thought, 'Hmm, I can absolutely relate to this.' Then Anatomy comes along and I'll be damned if that wasn't the exact thought I had by the time I put the book down. Anatomy had me wanting to throw my reading device across the room, hurl everywhere, hide from the "tormentor" and save the "victim" all at once. The only real question you will be left with by the time you reach the end is, "Can you really be saved from this?" If you can last until the ending I promise it will be so worth the torment you'll endure. This is an absolute must read!

Have you ever read a book where you know that the main character is a bad guy, but you start to have the feels for him. Yeah this book did that. Like I know I want the character to be a “good guy” but after reading what he’s doing I kinda want him to be a Bad good guy. Did that make sense. Like he is evil but a good kinda of evil. Believe me I’m confused on how I feel about him. Dudes I can’t even begin to tell how good this book was. It was definitely one of the best books I’ve read. I loved the twists and turns these characters went through. I was getting emotional over this damn book and it was definitely making me think I was going a little crazy. But that end tho.....

Omg, Yolanda Olson, wtf have you done to my poor head? Honestly, this book wrapped me up and twisted my brain. It's dark and twisted and one of the biggest mindf$$&&$$ks I've ever read.

I really can't say anything about the plot of the story or any of the characters because this story defies anything I could say about it. It's one of the stories that you have to read yourself to get it and you will probably still have to go back and reread the page you just finished because you're asking yourself if you really did just read what you think you did.

Yolanda's books always worm into my brain, but this one may just knock all the others out of my head.

Well blow me down.
Anatomy is one of the best stories written by Yolanda. She takes you on a ride with the Tormentor and his "Pet".  Pet goes through so much with the Tormentor for her sins. He is one crazy bad guy and the tormentor does his job well. And through it all, they seemed to have this connection with one another- but how far will he go and how much can she handle?

I flew through this story as I didn't want to put it down. It felt like the Totmentor was talking to me as I read.
It's psychological-horror-filled brilliance. #BestoftheBest2018

Yolanda Olson always knows how to hook you, reel you in, and make you beg for more. She brought her A game with this book. You really shouldn't be surprised at the amount of gore, and torture in this book. The way it is written is so realistic at times I thought I was the victim. Hell. Yolanda had me WANTING to be the victim in this story.

I couldn't stop reading this book. My emotions were all over the place, fighting a battle within. When you can connect to even a sick and twisted book, you know you have an author who is truly gifted with her words.

Yolanda has such a way with words that will have you sucked in from the start.

I have read a few of Yolanda's books but this one is my favorite, it is raw. we are all fighting our own demons. I don't want to say much .. but it is written so well and will have you turning the pages until the end and even then you will want more.

This one gives you all the feels.

I can't wait to see what Yolanda brings us next.

“I’ve been worshipped as a god and condemned as the Devil himself, yet I think I maintain a perfect balance because I truly believe all gods are devils in some way.”

I have grown accustomed to expect the unexpected when I dive into a work by Yolanda but this one - it’s a dark and painful masterpiece.

I am at a standstill with being speechless and wanting to spill the entire teacup over how Yolanda approached a a certain topic and twisted it in a way that only her deviously brilliant mind can do. So instead of doing either, I am gonna say this - go into this baby blind as bat and keep your mind open as you dive into its depths.

“How much more of myself must I willingly destroy to win the only victory that counts?”

This talented author pulled me into the darkest of nightmares, yet spoke to me on soooo many demented levels. I could feel the character’s pain and couldn’t look away from the pages as I witnessed her fight for survival.
I applaud Yolanda for this one, because I know this is one story that is going to haunt me for many nights to come.

Yolanda Olson has taken us on a trip down the rabbit hole with this MASTERPIECE!!!!

When I started reading this book, I was pretty sure that I knew where the story was going...Oh, but I was wrong...So very wrong!!! Yolanda Olson takes her reader on one hell of an emotional roller coaster with this read. She exposes the darkest side of human suffering with Anatomy. This book is one that left me looking at everything that I once thought differently.

This book is gory, but not in the traditional sense. I was not grossed out with the torment that poor Alice suffered, but more heartbroken for her. Yolanda wrote this book in such a way that it speaks to your soul. It leaves a mark on you and makes you think about what just happened long after you finish reading the last page.

This is very easily a 5+ star from me. Yolanda Olson took me places that I have to admit that I was not comfortable going but needed to go. This is a book that I will not forget!!

BRAVO Yolanda Olson with Anatomy. This piece of work is now my FAVORITE! I totally loved this book. I honestly haven’t read any reviews on it since I don’t read reviews before I read book but I totally glad I don’t since I was AMAZED. I knew halfway through the book what was really happening. I knew it because I have been to my own “Darkness” before and I think deep inside darkness knows darkness. Even though I guessed what was happening I still had loads of anticipation.
This book should be taken and made into a film. It was exceptional. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I think it should be read by anyone and everyone that had or has some sort of battle within themselves. Excellent ♥️

ANATOMY is one of if not the most bizarre, cryptic books I’ve ever read! Olson used an extremely innovative writing style with this book, literally only a few lines having quotation marks to indicate actual discussion between characters. Up until the very last page, I was still questioning what exactly I was reading:
-Are there 2 characters or 1?
-Are these all inner musings or actual discussions?
-Are the characters in hell or in an actual place located on earth?

Although I was confused while reading 99.9% of this book, the fact that I was thinking and wondering so much was awesome! There’s not a lot of eroticism but there’s a ton of blood and gore! It’s a quick, entertaining read and most of all, it’s a fantastic mindfuck!!!
