Shattered Mirror is a stark look at teenage depression and drug abuse. Kelly loves both her teenage children, Fiona, 13 and Zach, 17. Zach has made choices that impact his future. As a single mother, Kelly is worn out yet continues to battle for both of her children. One of the messages that resonated with me is that a parent cannot allow poor behavior as a toddler to happen without consequence and expect that as the child grows older they will suddenly make good choices. Lots of good gems in this novel.

A new favorite!

Shattered Mirror by Sarah Price

In an effort to prevent spoilers please read the books description before reading this review. I typically do a quick summary of the book. I am choosing to not do that for this review for 2 reasons: 1) the description on Amazon is simply perfect as is, and 2) to prevent any spoilers of this fantabulous read!

Sarah Price has a new fan and faithful follower! Shattered Mirror came up in my suggested book list. I read the description and thought it sounded good so I got it through Kindle Unlimited. Then the fun really began. From the minute I cracked open the book I could tell it was different. I was immediately drawn into the story. There were many parallels between my life and this book. So there were many times as I was reading where I caught myself nodding my head in agreement. There were also times when I was grinding my teeth, had my mouth hanging open in surprise/shock, had my hands fisted with my nails digging into my flesh, and had years streaming down my face.

The characters were written in such a way that they felt like friends and people you probably know. They were multidimensional and full of flaws. They were dealing with real world, relevant issues. I just have to say - if Sarah Price didn't deal with the majority of these issues herself that she not only did an amazing job on research, but also in putting herself in the position of someone actually dealing with these problems! At many points throughout the book I almost felt like she had been inside my head picking through my thoughts and feelings. It was a little scary at times because of the depths of the realness given to the book.

The topics covered in this book are easy to gloss over and shy away from. Yet Ms. Price dives into everything head first and goes deep. She doesn't glamorous anything. Yet there is just this factor throughout her book that just kept reaching out to me. It wasn't even until the Pastor was mentioned that I caught it. There is a slight spiritual leaning. If you aren't a Christian you might even miss it because it is so under played. Instead of spelling it out it is obvious that the main character, Kelly, is a Christian. That brought a whole new level of respect to the book & it's author. I just love when the characters live out their faith instead of the author driving it into the readers heads. Loved it!!!

If teen addiction, teen suicide, mental health issues, alcoholism, or divorce from sexist abusive drunks trigger you in any way then you might want to skip this book. But if you like reading books that are like meeting a new friend that is an open book and doesn't shy away from the hard topic, then you will want to check this book out.

A powerfully written, eye-opening fiction novel that could be the real story of a neighbor or ourselves.

Kelly has been fighting for years to keep her fractured family together. Meaning she has been trying to keep life as normal as she can for her two children after her divorce from their verbal abusing drunk of a dad. Unfortunately, her son, Zach, has been self-medicating with alcohol and drugs. Kelly has gotten Zach help in the past but when he OD's in his bedroom she realizes he needs professional help. Fighting her ex-husband, close family, a school system with their heads in the sand and a society that refuses to acknowledge the epidemic killing our kids Kelly pulls strength from deep within to find the help her son needs.

I cried, screamed and cringed while reading and listening to this book. The story had me so entranced that I finished it in less than 24 hours. I found myself waking up at 3am just to read more. Sarah Price has described a situation that is killing our young at an alarming rate with so much truth and grit. Too bad every parent in America is not required to read this before their children hit their teenage years. What will it take for our nation to wake up and see the young need our help in fighting the war on drugs. This killer knows no boundaries. It affects every social and economic class.

I will be recommending this book to all my friends, teacher colleagues and anyone who will listen.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Waterfall Press through NetGalley. Any and all opinions are entirely my own.

Kelly seems to be fighting a never-ending battle, but its the one battle she is not willing to lose.

This book is so powerful, the author holds not a thing back, you will never find a "perfect" character in any of Sarah's book and it is refreshing it what you see is what you get.
These are like "real" people faced with real problems and their journey. Something in this book really resonated with me. Addiction knows no boundary and this book is proof of that. This book deals with some very tough and in your face subject but you will not be disappointed. This book is very well written in grabs you and you will not want to miss a thing or put the book down so amazing. I would recommend this book to anyone even teenagers who are being faced with addiction every day. This book may be about addiction, but it is also about forgiveness and finding hope when all is lost. By the way, if you are looking for Sarah's traditional Amish book this is not one of them but trust me you will not be disappointed it truly is an amazing read. I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley. I was under no obligation to post a review and have given my honest opinion

This is a topic near to my heart, having turned 25 years sober this year. I understand the struggles of getting and staying sober, and I've tragically seen those that don't want sobriety or can't make it.

That being said, Sarah Price has written a powerful book in Shattered Mirror. Kelly’s fight to save her son goes right to the heart of any parent. It's very inspiring and this entire book had me captured from cover to cover. I totally couldn't put it down.

Shattered Mirror shares with readers the true reality of what happens to a family in the grips of addiction. On the outside they appear to have it all together, but at home, they live a different story. This story of Kelly's journey to help her son through her persistence and faith. If you have anyone in your life in the throes of addiction, I highly recommend adding this book to your reading list. You will certainly identify with the struggles.

I received an copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. I was not required to provide a positive review and this affected neither my opinion of the book, nor the content of my review.  Thank you so much NetGalley!!

This book was hard to put down. The emotion and inner turmoil of the characters is relatable even if you don’t know someone personally who has been affected by addiction. I think most everyone knows someone who has battled depression. I could definitely relate to the family dynamics but I identified most with Fiona. Being the youngest sibling in my family and having experienced many of the same situations as Fiona, I couldn’t wait to see how her story ended. It came as no surprise that the epilogue barely gave her a mention but I was still a little disappointed. I was also hoping to learn more about Zach post-treatment and the outcome with Molly. There were too many loose ends for me to feel satisfied.

I received a free copy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Shattered Mirror is a must-read that is hard to put down. Sarah Price has written a compelling, timely book that will, unfortunately, hit home for many people. All too often, those caught up in addiction and depression must deal with many who ignore these issues or don't take them seriously. Shattered Mirror is the story of one woman's journey to get herself and her children through these minefields with persistence and faith. I highly recommend adding this book to your reading list.

I was given the opportunity to read Shattered Mirror before it was released. It was an amazing novel. It brings to light a sad battle many of our young teenagers are facing and that is drug addiction. I found myself in tears as I read this novel. I pray that eyes are opened while reading this novel, and those who are dealing with addiction, get the help that they need. Not only the addict is going through this, their family and friends feel the impact of what drugs and alcohol are causing as well. Please read this gripping eye opener.

This is not a perfect book, but it held my attention. At times, this story of a single mom trying to keep it all together while dealing with her drug-addicted 17 year old son is pretty depressing. But it is a good glimpse into what life can be like when dealing with single parenting/ loss of friends / family problems. If you have ever secretly thought, "I dont know why _______(insert friend with problem here) doesn't just __________ (insert your simple solution here), this would be a good book to read.

Sarah Price totally knocks it out of the park with this book. Unfortunately this story is all too true for many people. Depression, drugs, and hatred toward others can lead to a very destructive life. Hearts may shatter, lives may fall apart but in the end letting go and letting God take over control will lead to a better life. A great read with a great message that may just lead to great life changes.

Sarah Price has hit hard at our comfort zones.

I am finding it hard to put into words how deeply this book affected me. It punches gigantic holes in our comfort zones. We all need to have a deeper understanding of what families suffer while dealing with addiction. As a society we must not let these addicts fall through the cracks. Thank you Sarah.

A story of the power of a mother's love

This was a hard read for me because I have son who is an alcoholic. I thought the author gave a good portrayal of an addict and how it affects the family. The author also gave a good portrayal of divorce when one spouse is emotionally abusive and an enabler of an addict.

be prepared for the ending.

I enjoyed reading this book, but so much of it was so sad. At the end God was brought in and hadn't been referred to the whole rest of the book. That's the only reason i gave it 4 stars.
