I grew up in a region of the country where fireflies are quite common. As a child, I used to catch them in mason jars to get a better look. If you like luminescent insects, this book is for you! The author, Radim Schreiber, grew up in the Czech Republic. Before moving to Iowa, Mr. Schreiber was not really familiar with fireflies. However, once he found them, he was mesmerized by the luminescent little creatures. An award-winning cinematographer and nature photographer, he decided to shoot some up close and personal shots of fireflies in their natural environments in the Smoky Mountains National Park, Iowa, and some other U.S. locations. If you have an interest in photography, nature/fireflies, don't miss this coffee-table book on the subject! In addition to the beautiful photographs, you'll learn a little bit about how biology makes it possible for these luminescent beetles to light up the night. Why are they putting on a light show? They are looking for mates!​

I’ve got a chapter on fireflies, but they are all Radim does. I’ve ran into him twice by chance late at night in the Smokies, watching tens of thousands of lightning bugs wink on and off. His photos are stunning, unique, and capture the magic of these ethereal creatures. The fragile light they give off is not easy to capture, but the images in this book will make you feel like you’re lying in the grass on a summer evening. If you are in love with these backyard faeries, his book belongs on your coffee table.

Schöne Fotos, knackig-kurze Informationen zu den Glühwürmchen und erfreulicherweise auch kurze Informationen zu den Aufnahmetechniken. Ich bin froh, dass ich das Buch bzw. Radim Schreiber seinerzeit auf Kickstarter unterstützt habe. Gute Arbeit.
