Gorgeous billionaire venture capitalist Alexander Drakos immerses himself in the work of his vast empire after a devastating tragedy causes him to reassess his playboy lifestyle and easygoing, self-centered existence. While in Apple Valley, Florida on business, he meets a woman who manages to capture his attention, and could very well capture his heart.
Karena “Kari” Grant is the young, African-American owner of a struggling cleaning service, and the single parent of a precocious fourteen-year-old son. Her world turns upside down when her ex, mob fixer Vito Visconni, returns from a long prison stint vowing to get his family back, and when her son falls prey to an unspeakable horror. Kari turns to Alex for help, and Alex discovers, for the first time in his life, what to love unselfishly looks and feels like.
In the first book of the Alex Drakos interracial romance series, Alex and Kari must face down demons that threaten their budding romance, and mobsters and enemies that threaten their very lives.

Karena/Kari and Alex are electrifying and volatile characters who come together in this latest series from Mallory Monroe. This new series is a spin-off from the world of Big Daddy Sinatra et al. Alex is a character namely from the Reno & Trina books.
There is Kari's son Jordan, a 14 year-old plot moppet, and a host of friends and supporting characters with that extra something Monroe does so well. The sex isn't extremely graphic, though descriptive, but the violence will make you cringe. And there is plenty of violence considering Alex's origins. He is definitely a Byronic character.
Kari is very human, believable. I know this woman. So do you. A young woman with a less than pristine history who has worked to take care of herself and Jordan. She is tough and smart, an "around the way girl." The issue I had with Monroe is her constant description of Kari as "not glamorous" "ordinary" and that the other woman and men of town see her as "nothing special". I realize that people can be pretty darn shallow about looks but since when is "ordinary" something that transforms to "amazing" because the woman has a great figure and cleans up well. (Yeah, I'm rolling my eyes here). Alex is something Kari is reaching high for, I suppose, when he has more baggage and issues than worth taking on despite his wealth, good looks and skills in bed. It's not quite insta-lurv for him but close enough. Kari is cautious but gets sucked into his life and world.
There is something addictive about Monroe's books I can't put my finger on. It's like eating your favorite food before dinner time. You're hungry, can't stop and its bad for you, and spoils you for the delicious main course meal. But my oh my, it was irresistibly good!
For me, Monroe's books have just enough character development, just enough research, just enough creativity, just enough plot development, to keep me involved and reading. Areas where this author fails is on editing and structure. These e-books are 5.99 a pop and every single freakin' release should be clean, as error free as can be arranged. But alas, quite a few fails here with typos and grammatical issues. Hence the lower rating each time I read these books.
What Monroe lacks in other areas she makes up for in authenticity of feeling, heart, intensity and angst. There is depth of soul in her writing, force of feeling that ignites the pages. This author has the ability to make you believe her characters and her world is real. The love she has for these people shows, and her love for writing is true. I just wish she would find an amazing editor.
"Alex Drakos: His Forbidden Love" was truly an engaging and smexy read with new couple, Alex Drakos and Kari Grant and of course her teenage son, Jordan. I don't feel so left behind with this story as with her other series. Alex was one hero that I can say I loved for the very start unlike her other male protagonists from some of her books. The heroine's mafia ex, Vito Visconni only made me enjoy the story more because I love anything MAFIA and how Alex protects Kari was perfect!
So if you're a fan of Mallory Monroe's strong alpha characters and the women who love them, then you will take great joy in reading this story as well.
ALEX DRAKOS 2: His Scandalous Family is already LIVE!
I enjoyed the new couple by one of my favourite authors.
I want to see what Kari is made of. We have seen Alex and he has shown us he knows how to take care of his woman. Now we need to know if she can take care of her man.
Mallory did it again! I just loved this new story about Alexander Drakos. He was an ultra-alpha who did not take any crap from anyone including his own children. He was a business mogul that has money, power, and all of the women he could ever want. It was not until the death of his son that he began to question the quality of his life. Was this all to his life, money, power, playing golf, and golddigger after golddigger? He thought that there was no hope of true happiness until he met Kari. He'd never met a woman like her. She was caring thoughtful, hard-working, and full of moral ethics, and most of all a wonderful mother, not like previous women in his life. She did not want anything from him that she did not earn. He was intrigued by her. She was not the prettiest woman he'd had in his life but she was the realest. He knew, on instinct that he had to persuade her to be his. He did not know what it was about her that drew him to her, was it her expressive eyes? Was it her beautiful smile? Was it her laugh, her body? He just knew he had to take care of her and her son.
Kari, on the other hand, had never had a man want to take care of her. Since her escape from Vito "Money" Visconni, she kept to herself and focused on taking care of her son Jordan. She never had a man to run her bath, or cook for her, or do some of the things Alex had done for she and her son. She assumed that the billionaire titan of industry and former fixer was stiff and stodgy, but she soon learned that he had a softer gentler, and loving side to him, only she could see. She was falling too and falling hard.
Mallory wrote a story that was well thought out and full of drama and action. Just when one thinks that Alex, Kari, and Jordan can go on and live their life HEA, boom, that action rolls in again in Mallory Monroe style. I can't wait for the future installments of this series to be published. I can see that Alex and Kari are going to have problems with Alex's daughter, his ex-wife, and his scorned paramours, but I believe that Karena "Kari" Grant will be able to handle them just fine. Alex likes his women with a little street in them and Kari has already admitted that she can be a little street and hood too. We can't leave out Jordan either, he can't be underestimated either. I can't wait. Good job Mallory!
NOTE: Update after re-reading 18 Sept. 2024 All these so-called vengeful people just found out that the former fixer doesn't play and he hasn't forgotten his skills either. They soon found out that Karma is a beotch and is a dish best-served cold. Alex knows how to serve that dish well.
I wish all writers were like Mallory, her writing is freaking awesome. I couldn't sleep all night because I was reading this book. The characters came alive and leave you wanting to read another book on them right away. Am selfish am sorry because I could read the next book with this couple right now. Thanks Mallory for the awesome read. You rock!!!
I had to read this book twice before I was able to review it. After my first reading, I was ambivalent about the book. Even after reading the reviews of my Goodreads friends, I didn't agree with them which is unusual because I usually agree with their reviews. I always love the discussions and even when we don't agree, the discussions are interesting and humorous. Even after reading reviews on Amazon, I still just thought "meh."
I started reading Alex Drakos 2: His Scandalous Family, and realized that before I could get into it, I had to re-read His Forbidden Love. I'm so glad that I did because I love Jordan and Kari. There were really good back stories for them both, especially Kari. I understood why Jordan was her life and how she could so swiftly have feelings for Alex. I didn't get a feel for Alex until the second read. He was a combination of Tommy Gabrini and Mick Sinatra. If Tommy was backdoor, then Alex was side door. Alex was even more vicious than Mick and every bit as large and in charge. I didn't remember that there was quite a bit of back story for Alex and he was nothing like I remembered him from Trina's book. Kari was a lot like Trina but had a lot more street in her than Trina ever did. Jordan is tougher than they give him credit for.
Once Alex decided Kari and Jordan belonged to him, anyone who messed with them was in danger of losing their lives. Or, they wished for death when Alex finished with him. I really loved how Alex shared as much as Kari needed to know and even let her make her own decision about "Money". The other characters, Faye, Benny and Lucinda are Kari's true friends and keepers as are the ones that work closely with both Kari and Alex. The sex was a little over the top but perfectly fit Alex and Kari and certainly accentuated their story. I just hope Alex gets rid of his many lovers real quick and make them understand that he's off the market. Kari is no Grace.
I can't give this book a 5 because there are still too many errors in grammar and the usage of wrong words. Now, I'm ready for Alex Drakos 2 and His Scandalous Family. Just don't know how they can be more scandalous than his children and ex-wife .
A Very Good and Sensual Interracial Romantic Thriller
Alex Drakos: His Forbidden Love is a very good and sensual interracial thriller that earned a rating of five stars. Alex was grieving for his son who committed suicide in front of him. He never thought he would ever find love until he fell for Kari a single mom. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to everyone who enjoys reading very good interracial romance novels.
This book is a kinda poor rehash of many of Mallory Monroe’s other books. But even with that, I’m probably going to read book 2 because I think it can become interesting. I’m just hoping the tropes of her other books will not be rehashed in this one.
I’m really happy for the HEA but please tell me, is there more to Kari and Alex’s story? Will they be made into a series? I really hope so. There were a few unanswered questions there.
I enjoyed reading about Alex and Keri. I liked that Alex was an all around good guy. I couldn’t help but reference him to Mick. He’s definitely different but also the same.
I can’t help but wanting to know how old Alex is. We know that Kari is 29 but how old is Alex? Early to Mid 40’s?
O really enjoyed this sweet love story between Alex and Kari. The only reason I gave it four stars is because the point of view shifted so many times it took a moment to figure out but I still recommend the book. Also I hope there will be more to this story. There are a lot of unanswered questions. Don't get me wrong the book does end and there isn't a cliff hanger just me hoping.
Alex Drakos, new businessman in town to save the town and find love? Alex is the usual Alpha male similar to Tommy Garbinnes. Alex and Kari, will hopefully find love and a family they both deserve. Is Alex and Kara another Trina and Reno? Only time will tell with these two. I liked the story line, I’ll most definetly read book two in the series.
I just wanna know how Ms Monroe can keep up with all these interchangeable characters? This is the beginning of another great family saga. I simply love Alex. He's everything any woman would want. The edge and added bad boy persona only adds to his sex appeal
It’s refreshing to have totally new characters to obsess over and I really loved Alex and Kari. He’s a little bit Mick, a little bit Reno, and a little bit Tommy. I can’t wait until the next book.
Alex is swoon worthy! Loved him and Kari was amazing this was great book. My jaw was dropping couple of times the opening scene was shocker literally was gobsmacked. This was first book I read by this author and it was moving story.
I was glad to see Alex find his special lady. Because there was no way Reno was letting Trina go. I hope to hear more of Alex, Kari, and Jordan’s story.
WoW what can I say I love it I didn't think that I would love Alex Drakos he was such a breath of fresh air he actually put me in the mind of tommy because who would of thought that Alex being such a cool smooth guy that he could be dangerous when he wants to. I like that both Kari and Alex was looking to start over in their lives that they didn't mean to fall in love they was actually looking for a brand new start. I actually felt sorry for Alex of what he had to go through with his kids, Because to me they felt very entitled because of who their father was but it was sad how alex son had passed away but I am glad that he finally got to open up his feelings somebody else on who been there to. And as for Kari she been through a lot to and Jordan is to adoral I am glad that Kari has found her happily ever after but I am also glad that Kari had Alex to work for her and realize that she is not easy and is not like those other women who he mess with but most of all this was a good start of the series.
The book was OK. I was hoping to avoid certain things I noticed by only reading books over a certain rating, and this disappointing me. Like others everything happened so quickly, and there’s so many basic questions I feel should’ve been answered. What exactly does he do? How old is he? Even other stuff in the book that happens it’s just implied. He told her that, they said this we don’t really get to see it. As a story, it was OK/good, but it didn’t feel like a complete book, more like rough draft or different timeline for the rest of the book to continue. I read the online version, and there were so many page breaks that could’ve had words on them. And personally, the writing style was pretty good, but the first page started out like a Wattpad book, I really contemplated if I wanted to continue.
Alex Drakos is a formidable character..billionaire extraordinaire....unrelenting lover...notorious playa....a lover in almost every city....but not bum fu@k Apple Valley Florida...just right under the panhandle....he wants to escape his demons in the big Apple....his devastating loss....only to end up smack dab in the middle of a cluster f that is Kari Grant...a single mother struggling to raise her son....Keep her company doors open...and oh yeah get away from a mobster....who thinks his pair is bigger...until Mr. Biggest steps in to set him straight....and to also put Kari on call...that she belongs to him...Alex Drakos....Mr billionaire extraordinaire...aka..Mr Biggest...so sexy and dangerous...just the way I like....mmmm
This is the third book that I've read by Mallory Monroe, and I can't understand why she's popular. I read the first two books in the Sinatra series a few months ago, and I liked them so much that I decided to quit reading Monroe's books while I was ahead... *sigh* I love lazy, underwhelming stories that read like poorly written fanfiction. Who needs experience the journey when you can be told everything in nauseating prose.
I read HFL because I thought that Ms. Monroe's writing would have improved over time. She's written well over a dozen novels since she published Big Daddy Sinatra; nevertheless, her writting is still amateurish amd lazy. It's bad, which is a shame because she has decent plots but poor execution.
This book has left me all kinds of confused. Was Alex a business man or a mobster? Just how old is Alex??? This entire story happened in a span of a week? Two weeks? 3 months? I’m still not sure. Then the issue with Jordan...what is really going on....I didn’t get this added drama at all. Completely unnecessary. The sex scenes...boring. No effort was made to actually help the reader visualize the scene. Like the pages of my kindle did not catch on fire. The flame lit and died immediately. I don’t see myself spending $5.99 for the second novel. This is not a 5-star novel. I’ve read better.
Such a good read. Didn’t know what to expect going in but really like the writing style and that she didn’t dwell too much on the IR side of it. These were just two people that connected under unusual circumstances. There was none of the we can’t be together or why do they like me nonsense. I also liked that it wasn’t first person and not told from one persons side but intermingled fluidly. I’ve read some books where you couldn’t tell who was talking but this was well done. Definitely a must read
Another Mallory Monroe hit series. I almost forgot his flirtatious relationship with Trina Gabrini. Alex is all alpha male. He handles his business in and out of bed. I am looking forward to more adventures with Alex, Kari and Jordan. I would love for them to interact with the Gabrini family. Imagine Jordan hanging with Domi and I think Alex is the only man that stood a chance of taking Trina from Reno. I'm excited about this new series
I love Alex. My new book boyfriend. Sorry Sal. Lol. This was such a good read. Alex ain't no Joke... a take charge of everything kind of guy. I'm happy Alex found someone to love and that person truly cares about him. His daughter should go to jail. Ms. Monroe you knock this one completely out of the park. I will be stalking Amazon until the next Gabrini/Sinatra/Drakos next installment series is out. Lol. Thanks for a delicious read. Lol
Great Start to a New Series. I cannot wait for the 2nd book. If Ms. Mallory keeps this up, I might love this series like I Love Mick. I recommend this book. I'm waiting for the 2nd. I won't go into details but those who read my reviews know how I Love me some Mick. So to say this book/series has that type of potential know this is an extremely high rating.
We just got a new character from Mallory Monroe and she did not disappoint. Alex Drakos...reminds me of Tommy And Reno Gabrini combined and what a combo. .I am definitely looking forward or book 2 in these series. I a take charge alpha male and Alex has it in spades. The heroine Kari is a spit fire too...and I loved their story and how you brought it togethwr......hurry up book 2
Another hot read from Mallory Monroe. I love how alpha the men of her books are portrayed. I can already tell this book will need to have a sequel(please have a sequel) there are too many strings left hanging and I can't wait to hear more about the citizens of Apple Valley. What I also enjoyed was the fact that Kari wasn't afraid of a little good ol' revenge. No damsel in distress for this one. She wanted payback and Alex can deliver!! Great book!
Awesome read! I love the way that Mallory Monroe makes a few connections between Alex and Reno and Trina as well. The mention of Alex Drakos in the previous book in regards to Trina is what encouraged me to begin reading the Drakos novels as well! Mallory Monroe is a great writer and I have become addicted to her books! I also love the way this one ended and how Alex is similar to the Gabrini men in how he protects the new love of his life, Kari and her son, Jordan.
I like this character and anxious to learn more about his background and if he will take over his father’s business. I like the protector factor as well. He is different from the Gabrini Family but has some similarities. I’m going to love this series and can’t wait for the next one.
