I found this book really interesting. The story was well thought out and deep. It covered serious issues such as domestic violence and the after effects of it. Annie is living in a womens shelter with her 2 young sons. She volunteers and works in the shelter while hiding out from her ex-husband, Phil. She meets Hank who is a 43 year old widower who is working on the construction at the shelter. How their love story develops and the issues that both have are dealt with is approached. The main characters were written well and fleshed out quite well. Their back story was told and it all made sense. The flow of the story was good and kept my interest to the end. Tommy and Jason, Annie’s 2 little boys were cute and very sweet. A beautiful story which i would highly recommend. I received this book free from ebook discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This was a very moving, sympathetically written story that had me gripped from beginning to end. Annie and her two children are on the run for an abusive ex husband. At the end of her reserves they find themselves in a homeless shelter with others abuse victims. Whilst volunteering in the kitchens Annie begins a shy friendship with Hank, a builder working on renovations for the centre.
This is not a fast moving book and as can be expected of someone so traumatised Annie is cautious. Hank has his own demons. A widower who truly loved his wife he too is reserved but the spark is there and they grow to learn trust and comfort in each other. With a stalker of an ex husband in the mix there are problems along the way making for a well rounded interesting story.
This the first book I have read by this author and I was impressed by her measured and well thought out approach to this sensitive subject. I have now downloaded a further book in the series.

A heart-wrenching story of a woman and her two children on the run from her ex-husband, a man who wields violence just because he can. Annie is tired of the constant battle to keep one step ahead of Phil, but every time she finds a new place to rest, he tracks her down once again. Hank, a widower, working at the shelter where Annie volunteers, sees the sweetness and determination in Annie and his protective instincts are stirred up. Hank is still battling with the loss of his wife but Annie and her two boys give him a new purpose in life. This book has shades of light and dark, with the gentle romance that builds between Annie and Hank, and the dark, violent battle she has with Phil. The story is well written and maps out the reality of having to live a life on the run from an abusive spouse. However this standalone book brings hope and shows the way towards independence and a new life. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. “Being on the run had taught Annie a great deal about perspective. And mercy. The kindness of strangers. Everyone had problems. Some people were just better equipped to handle them.” Protecting her boys while staying one step ahead of her psycho ex-husband pushed Annie to her limits. Even though Hank’s smile hid his broken soul, it was the bright spot of Annie’s day. Smiles turned to touches, which turned to flames between them. A wonderful story of survival, danger, and love.
