To prove to my best friend I’m not afraid to date, I go out with a man who fits the description of the man of my dreams.
It was supposed to be one date just to shut her up, but I kinda like him now.
Dating ain’t all that bad when the man is a handsome, six-feet-four gentleman who makes my heart flutter. That is until I find out he needs a favor from me.
He wants me to marry him to appease his family.
At first, I was against it until I realized I had nothing to lose. Plus, it’s temporary. I can handle that…I think.
But once we arrive at his parents’ mountain home on a snowy weekend, I have to turn up the heat and pretend to be blissfully in love with him.
And we have to share the guest bedroom.
It’s hard not to blend reality with make-believe when the man is so amazing. But deep down, I know falling for him could lead to heartbreak.

I am still reading (via audiobook) but so far I am impressed by the following: - the writing is a joy to experience; beautiful phrases, metaphors and wording used to describe actions and feelings; - the respectful representation of a black woman who defies stereotypes (not aggressive, assertive, experienced...the character is timid/shy/settled and a homebody, and I'm super glad whenever I find books that represent the same breadth, variety and depth of black women's personalities that is offered for non-black characters; - the hero is actually a very decent guy; - the characters and the responses of both H/h are pretty grounded & reasonable;
My only con, so far, is the incorrect characterization of an introvert being the same as a shy/fearful/socially awkward person. It paints the picture that only extroverts can be confident, ambitious, assertive, charming ---and that's false.
Introversion and Extroversion is about how people gain energy (get rejuvenated or refreshed). Introverts benefit from alone time and can get overwhelmed by outside stimuli to the point of being drained. Extroverts are drained by the LACK of outside stimuli (i.e. other people).
But there are plenty of introverts who require large amounts of time alone, but also enjoy focused -- but limited -- time engaging in activities or with people who they enjoy. And yet these same people can be self-confident, ambitious, assertive or even very socially apt (when required). And they may even boast all of those traits!
It's one of the misconceptions I like to try to override by presenting an array of personalities that can fall under that umbrella (including inexperienced and/or shy introverts).
That's my one gripe (and as you can see it's one that I'm passionate about lol); but overall, so happy to have discovered this amazing work and uber-talented author!
I'll add an update if I have anything to add or edit once I finish reading!
UPDATE: Okay, so I was NOT expecting that Epilogue lol
It was different! Bizarre! All of those involved were at least 30 plus yrs. old. The introvert and selfish best friend. The introvert and the man who wasn't interested in dating. I'm gonna start out saying, I did not like Priscilla, at all. She wasn't a friend to Elsie at all. She was a selfish, ungrateful, pushy, and a user so-called friend for the last 10-14 yrs.
Elsie, had real issues as an introvert. Trevor had issues coming clean to his mother about his wedding plans called off well over a year. However, I'm glad that Trevor happened into her life at this particular time. He was pushy, patient, encouraging, gentle yet forceful. I liked that what he eventually felt for Elsie was real, but wished he had come clean sooner. It turned out that they were on the same page.
Loved her co-worker, Kardeesha, who was more the friend than Priscilla. She was encouraging, funny, and gave good needed advice.
This was a great Standalone novel from Mrs. Martin! Man of Her Dreams didn't disappoint! I just love Elise and her witty and shy personality. Trevor was truly the man of her dreams because he was able to dig deep in her and pull out who she really was. Her so called "best friend " , Priscilla really played on my nerves. I'm glad she finally saw her for who she was and put her in her place. Elsie was actually good for Trevor and his family. She was able to get him to deal with alot of his family issues. I thought this book was just adorable. Congratulations, on yet another great novel! What a way to start 2018!
This book was funny and endearing. I loved both characters, as well as the supporting characters. A good read with well-developed characters and written well, with a few “written how you talk” errors, such as “They’ll be other opportunities”instead of “There’ll be (there will be)...” which occurs 3 or 4 times. Overall, not enough errors to be totally frustrated with the book as a whole and I would still recommend it.
This is my first read from this author and it was a good and sweet romance read with an extrovert encouraging an introvert to live outside of her box. I don't want to give too much away but I will say that it was light, funny, there were friendship and family drama, heartbreak, steamy scenes and a happy ending. I will say that the ending felt a bit rushed to me but other than that this was a good romance and I'm looking forward to reading other books from this author.
This was a lovely story. Both Trevor and Elsie were what each other needed. She needed him so that she could finally step into the real her. He needed her to show him that the right woman was worth putting his all into. Their love story was beautiful to read. Priscilla got on my nerves so much! Elsie should’ve left her ass hanging, her coworker was more of a friend than the one she’d known forever.
It was good to me see Ellie come out of her shell- being shy or an extreme introvert is not living, just existing. I enjoyed the happy ending for her and Trevor. I didn't like her friend Priscilla from the start. His mom Lana was a sweet heart and got her man inline too.
Elsie was too shy, but she overcame her introverted ways to attain love. Her Priscilla was apparently not too happy in her own marriage in order to manipulate her friend. Perhaps she should have spent more time on her husband, and maybe he would spend more time with her. I enjoyed the story.
This book made me laugh, it made me cry and it warmed my heart. This was a sweet story of friendship, trust and love. Mainly love. It had a few co/dependency relationships and it painted a picture with only a few characters. Great read👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Trevor was book bae; I want him for myself cute. Elsie was such an old-fashioned name but was so adorable. I did not care too much for the way her friend treated her, and I hoped she would be better. Trevor made up for her friend two-fold. I loved this story.
Priscilla thought she was setting up an I told you so but she gave Elsie a chance of a lifetime. Trevor wasn't looking for love but he found it in a shy introvert. It was good he found closure concerning Rachel.
This book can be read by everyone who’s had a problem with being the one who never thought that anyone would love love them. I gave this story four stars because it has a great story line.
I really enjoyed this story. Elise & Trevor were perfect for each other. Each had a thing or two to learn or work out but Trevor truly was the man of her dreams! Highly recommend.
Good read, excitement mounting at every turn of the page. Keeps you on the edge of your seat. Always enjoy Tina Martin ‘s books, such an amazing author. Kudos to you👌🏽
This was a really nice book, had so much humour in it I was laughing so hard. I don’t know how I miss this book but I’m so happy I came up on it. Keep up the great work Tina Martin.
This was funny with the way Priscilla was trying to control Elsie life and the demands she tried with Trevor. But this by fired as Trevor really liked Elsie and and Pris no longer had control over Elsie. Karsheeda was my favorite. Great read!
