Three Minutes of Eternity: A Uniquely Staged Adventure, Based on Real Events of the Famous Song Contest - The Eurovision

Rate this book
This is a pop-reality book that unveils the seedy high jinks and backstage shenanigans at the Eurovision Song Contest through the eyes of an active participant. It also glimpses into the political intrigue in Israel surrounding the competition, corruption, romance, and off-camera. Yanai Tannenbaum, Head of Press for the Israeli delegation to the Eurovision song contest, is asked to work at a competition in Baku, Azerbaijan, a Muslim country having an open border with Iran. He and singer, Yarden Oz, undergo a long and winding journey to represent their country in the competition. Once in Baku, they are, of course, drawn into romance and alcohol binging. They succeed, in their unique and vulgar way, to enchant those around them. What they did not count on – among the glamour, sequins, and gimmicks – is having to be guarded against kidnapping by 15 special agents and knowing that they could die at any moment!

Israel is surrounded by hostile countries. Pop culture there is also affected by this. When their delegation goes to Azerbaijan they have remain under security whole the time.

Yarden is a young talented singer who is representing Israel in Eurovision. Yanni is the head of press who is her support. She is not liking all the restrictions on the movement. Then they are taken to Russia secretly and all the weird things happen. Will Yarden come out on top?

The book gives an inside peek into the lives of famous pop stars. This is not all hunky dory and it is a tough life out there. Everyone covers their own ass and blame others when they fail. The strategy of press handling is very cunning. They send out a press release and let the media talk about it and play the youtube clip of the interview.

The book is funny and witty. 3.5/ 5 starts.

A quick search on Google told me that Azerbaijan, the nation and former Soviet republic, is bounded by the Caspian Sea and Caucasus Mountains, which span Asia and Europe. Its capital, Baku, is famed for its medieval walled Inner City. Within the Inner City lies the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, a royal retreat dating to the 15th century, and the centuries-old stone Maiden Tower, which dominates the city skyline.

Three Minutes of Eternity by Alon Amir - A Feel Of Stifle

Three Minutes of Eternity by Alon Amir has 35 chapters. It is about inside stories of Eurovision. Whosoever has a connection with Eurovision in Israel knows Alon Amir very well. It is about his expertise, professionalism, and perfectionism. In fact, Alon Amir is an encyclopedia of Eurovision in Israel. They say if it is Eurovision, it can't happen without Alon. The story is about a reality check. It is about a different kind of experience in Eurovision Song Contest by a participant/contestant Yarden Oz. On one hand, it is a story of politics, corruption, and shenanigans. On the other hand, there is romance, thrill, and adventure. Yanai is the Head of Press for the delegation participating in Eurovision. That year it was happening in Baku, Azerbaijan. In fact, the place is having an open border with Iran. Moreover, it is a Muslim dominant country. Nobody is sure of safety.

Vadim, the security officer cautions the team staying at The Marriott about terrorists and other potential threats. One has to stay away from vulnerabilities as much as possible. Niv Zalah, the Assistant Head of the delegation is a gay. The complete first floor of the hotel is reserved for the delegation and hence maintaining discipline and decorum is important for everyone. Hearing gunshots at night in the corridors or around the hotel is quite possible. All members have to stay inside their hotel rooms at night. The situation is scary, in fact. But then, for the delegation, it is important to participate in Eurovision and give their best. There is a lot of action and suspense in Three Minutes of Eternity by Alon Amir.

As the Israeli delegation is staying on Floor one of the hotel, Hungarian delegation is staying on Floor eleven. Likewise, every floor has a delegation from some country or the other. Will it turn out to be a moment of stifle? Overall, Three Minutes of Eternity by Alon Amir is quite engaging and will give you enough of entertainment.

The original TV talent show!

The Eurovision Song Contest is the longest running annual TV music competition in the world, with an estimated audience of over 200 million people. For me, the song contest was always like an enigma wrapped in a mystery. The short version of how it works is that each country sends in a song and a performer to perform it and competes against each other for points. The winner walks away with a trophy, probably some kind of a music deal and the honor of hosting the event in his or her home country the following year. Eurovision has taken place every year for the past 60 years.

Author Alon Amir weaves a fascinating, witty and at times bizarre behind-the-scenes account of the ‘backstage shenanigans at the Eurovision Song Contest through the eyes of an active participant. It also glimpses into the political intrigue in Israel surrounding the competition, corruption, romance, and off-camera’. Both the European and American audience will find this a fascinating and intriguing read.

Book Review originally published here: http://www.iheartreading.net/reviews/...

Ever since I was a little kid, I loved watching the Eurovision song contest. Once a year, my mother and I curled up in front of the TV with popcorn and snacks and we cheered on for our favorite countries and songs.

In Three Minutes of Eternity, the author crafts a far darker tale related to Eurovision. Yanai Tannenbaum, press representative for the Israeli delegation to the Eurovision song contest and singer Yarden Oz, are asked to work at a competition in Baku, Azerbaijan – not exactly the safest territory on earth.

Once in Baku, things go from bad to worse fast, with alcohol, romance, and even a kidnapping. The writing is fast-paced, throwing the reader from one event into the next and keeping you on the edge of your seat.

Probably one of the worst books I have read. As a Eurovision Fan, I was really looking forward to reading this. The story's about a singer working her way through the Eurovision two week process. However, the book's badly written, unrealistic and full of bad language. Not a good guide for those who want to learn about the Eurovision Song Contest. I was pleased when I had finished the book

**Free copy received in exchange of a honest review.

This novella, Three minutes of Eternity by Alon Amir, is a behind-the-scenes account of the Eurovision song contest narrated through the eyes of an active participant.

Participants from various countries participate and compete against each other, with the winner walking away with a trophy, a promising music deal and the honor of hosting the event the following year in his home country. The book is quite real and brings out the dark side behind all the glamour and glitter, and brings out how celebrities have to fake up normalcy and calmness amidst bizarre situations.

Written in a witty style, the book is decently paced, lots of elements of adventure thrown in and makes for a easy and interesting read. Definitely worth 3 stars.
