It’s been umpteen years since I read any Irish mythology. As a small child my Father used to read to me tales such as the Legend of Finn McCool and Deirdre (my own name) of the Sorrows. These memories made this book even more enjoyable. The story line engages the reader almost immediately. I say “almost” since it took a wee while to get used to the Irish names. The book is written in present tense. I found this a little jarring at first but now think it added tension and urgency to the plotline. I hope the author writes more books as I would certainly enjoy reading his work again.
Excellent melding of multiple Irish myths, creating a compelling story of an ancient time. The author has created a complex world with several totally different societies, and just like in our current time, these societies are struggling mightily to try to learn to live with one another. Multiple fantasy concepts are used successfully in this story (time travel, mind melding, visions, etc).
This book is full of detail that launches the reader into the mythical world ancient Ireland. The author shares an intimate grasp of the lands and people of his ancient heritage, immersing the reader in visitations from the spirit world and the conflicts of man. Highly entertaining.
A mythical Irish story comes alive in this novel . Because of the great descriptions by the author, I was able to see the visions, the conflicts and the magnificent flying machines. If you like fantasy and ancient Irish culture, this is a must read.
The story is well written leaving the reader with a greater appreciation for historical significance of past events. The descriptions given of this ancient time are clear and concise and the stories flows easily. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
