Brylane Robinson- a beautiful, bright and intelligent black sister who lives in the housing projects on the South side of Chicago, steps into the picture. Brylane fights for survival and a better life for herself in the hood. One morning on her way to work, a handsome man literally runs into her. When their eyes met so did their hearts. Will Brylane and Tobias venture into Something New?
I have had this book for a while and just got around to reading it. The beginning took a second for me to get into.
Dislkes: -That it wasnt 400 plus pages to finish the story instead of two parts. I am not afraid to read a 400 page book. Unnecessary 2part books are overdone and overrated. -They fell in love too fast. That’s just me. They didn’t have real time to get to know each other. - Brylane was slightly naive in my opinion. She relied on the opinions of other’s to make her decisions at times. - The name Tobias is not my idea of sex..lol - when it started getting good, it ended 🙁
Loves: - Female character that wanted better for herself - despite her present situation she was depending on a man for anything - the idea of a family member dating interracially was not all unicorns and rainbows. There was objectivity on both sides. - Tobias stood up to his mother father and his crazy ex. - loved the best relationship with Brylane and Vonita
I would warn my friends that this story has a cliffhanger but would recommend it all the same.
This was an interesting read. Tobias and Brylane definitely have obstacles to overcome, the biggest one being crazy Sharon. She's delusional. This book definitely raises the question of love being enough to overcome outside forces. Their parents being one of those forces. I need Desmond to go on about his business though, Brylane doesn't need that around her. I like her and Vonita's friendship, Vonita telling her what happened at the ball was a true friend move. The ending is the only issue because it ended on a cliffhanger and it states it's a standalone
If I knew this was a cliffhanger, I wouldn’t have read it. Now I’m going to stew until part 2 comes out. I hate when authors do this. The heart loves who it loves and Tobias fell head over heels for the beautiful Brylane. His love for her is deep, true and full of passion. His biggest mistake was stringing Sharon along. I will be anxious for sequel.
Found it a depressing read. The storyline will no doubt speak to some, but the idea of someone having to live in such negativity, of parents not pushing their children to be all that they can be; of people living with a psychology of mediocrity; of people who are willing to accept their lot without trying... hit a bit too close to home because I observe this and see examples of this type of mentality on a daily basis.
What a hot story. The drama has me reeling. When a man has a crazy obsessive witch on his trail, his life is pure hell. Tobias Benton is finding out just how evil Sharon can be when she does not get her way. His poor mother Carolyn is just as sad by staying with his philandering father James for years.
With all of that said, I thoroughly enjoyed this story but I HATE CLIFFHANGERS!!!!
It might have been a good book but.... This read left me with many questions, story seems incomplete, although it is listed as a stand alone book. What happen with his former girlfriend Sharon, and his father with his affair? Do Tobias and Brylane really make? Why was Tobais such a push over with Sharon? What was his mother planned to do as she supported Tobias' decision? It just felt unfinished.
This book was a long read for me but in a good way. It started off with Brylane and Leon but soon switch up. After a line drawn by color appears, will the Benton's be accepting to add the cream to there coffee. Good read but hopefully part two picks up a little fast paced.
I thought I wouldn't like it but loved it!! Very well written and the plot draws you in. The family in drama on both sides keeps you on the edge. Can wait for the follow up.
The storyline between Brylane and Tobias was interesting. Some of the other random characters histories thrown in just took up space that could have been used to finish this book.
I had a lot of hope for this story, love the idea but. The characters are very one sided. Tobias and Bry could have more spine. They did not inspire me to want them together. Both are easily lead. Sorry there is a part 2. Whenever it comes out. I hope that its free.
It was kinda slow but it was good. They really do have opposite backgrounds. I like her friend and his brother. Tobias was too nice to Sharon though. Gotta read book 2 to see what happens.
This book was everywhere! Too many characters, too many metaphors. The female nemesis was WAY over the top dramatic, and the Brylane and Tobias were seriously weak in depth.
This story is about an interracial couple who meets accidentally. They started going out and ended up falling I. Love. In the meantime trouble is in Paradise.
In the world that we live in today it seems like race determines everyones motive. You can barely talk to anyone without race coming into the conversation, since when did race become so important? When and how did race make decisions for the smallest of things? Are we a better society if we let race rule our decisions or should we let fate take it's course?
Brylane Robinson is a smart young woman with her entire future in front of her. She has a job and she is taking classes to get her degree. She used to believe in love until her now ex-boyfriend gave her a reason not to. Brylane has dreams, dreams to leave the South side of Chicago and that mentality of we can't do better because of where we are from. She wants the American dream and she knows she can get it, on her own terms. Will Brylane's destiny be changed on that one fateful day that she is involved in a car accident? Will she continue on course or will she detour and fall into that mentality that she has tried so hard to get away from?
Tobias Benton is a legacy kid. His family has been in business and politics for as long as he can remember and he is next in line to take over the family business. He thought that he was content with his current life until he determined that he is following a dream that was created for him NOT by him. He does not have the same views that his family has and that is going to create waves for him. How does he have the life that he deserves and keep his family happy at the same time? If a decision is put in front of him, will he go along to get along or will he be the independent man that he was raised to be?
Something New is a romance novel. From the title you can see that it is an interracial novel but the romance overrules the racial. It is written about two people in love that just happen to be of a different race but that does not overpower the novel. I love the way that De Coster makes this a standalone but it is clear that it could go into series. The characters just flow with each other and you can see this playing out like it is right in front of you. It has you asking questions of the characters and even talking back to them. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read, I read it in one day so you could too.
32 pages in and nothing abou... 32 pages in and nothing about what's going on a bunch of flashbacks. I'm done, I don't care about her ex if he's not in the picture and locked up for life or whatever.
