Humans and Klethos have reforged their alliance to push back the Grub invaders. Their combined military forces seem to be holding their own through new technology and tactics, but the alliance isn’t the only side making adjustments. The Grubs develop their own new advantage, one that will make them almost unstoppable. Staff Sergeant Hondo McKeever and Ben, his Klethos Interrecon partner, are tasked with ferreting out the Grubs’ new secret technology. Even if they are able to snatch a sample, will Vice-Minister Skylar Ybarra be able to lead her R&D team to not only make sense of it, but also to develop a countermeasure before the Grubs overrun the galaxy?
I am a retired Marine colonel and now a full-time writer living in Colorado Springs with my wife, Kiwi, and infant twin daughters, Danika Dawn and Darika Marie.
I published my first work back in 1978, a so-so short story titled "Secession." Since then, I have been published in newspapers, magazines, and in book format in fiction, political science, business, military, sports, race relations, and personal relations fields. I returned to writing fiction in 2009, and I currently have over 85 titles published, 52 being novels. My novelette, "Weaponized Math," was a finalist for the 2017 Nebula Award, and my novella, "Fire Ant," was a 2018 Nebula finalist. My novel "Integration" was a 2018 Dragon Award finalist, and my novel "Sentenced to War" was a 2021 finalist. I am a USA Today Bestelling writer.
My undergraduate degree was earned at the U. S. Naval Academy (Class of 1979), and I have attended graduate school at U. S. International University and the University of California, San Diego, earning a masters and doctorate. I am a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the US. Naval Academy Alumni Association, and the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America.
I have rather eclectic tastes. I have won awards in photography, cooking, wrting, and several sports, earning national championships in rugby and equestrian events. When I'm not writing, I'm reading, cooking, going to the gym, or traveling. I attend quite a few cons over the course of a year, and love meeting other people who love books.
I write because I love it. I only hope that others might read my work and get a bit of enjoyment or useful information out of my efforts.
As an author, I don't think it is fair for me to rate any other author's books here on Goodreads if that rating is less than five stars. I have certainly read many books that do not deserve five (or four, three, or even two). However, I will not rate any of those here while I am a Goodreads author. Consequently, I will only be listing books that I really like and feel deserve five stars.
I enjoy Col Brazee's writing because it is very military. Comments and military procedures (even though I have to translate Marine into Army) are spot on, or are a logical progression from today to sometime into the future.
One line in particular caused me to laugh out loud ("It should be patently obvious to the most casual observer...").
I've heard that from my retired (Marine officer) brother. I suspect it is a Naval Academy phrase that is part of an Academy sea story.
I recommend this book, this series and every other book authored or co-authored by Col Brazee.
Author Jonathan Brazee is a wonderful writer who has written a neck of a story of Marines in a unwinable war against a foe that isn't kill able! It's intensity never seem to slow down. The cast of characters are inspiring, from the Marine's on the front lines to the scientists struggling to find a way to stop the Grubs and they the Diplomats searching for a way to unite Humanity. A war where losing means total annihilation for all of humanity!
Interesting view to a fight with a totally outlandish enemy. Of course, the galaxy is huge, and there are a lot of questions, and this enemy is one huge enigma. I really enjoy reading about the research and deployment of how humans would fight such a weird enemy, and how humans may even find friends among aliens so different from themselves.
The Grubs are adapting, are humans and the Klethos adapting faster?
The fractured human worlds are learning to cooperate in order to wage war on the Grubs. The Klethos are giving an effort but Klethos Marines? The war has stopped temporarily but no one believes the Grubs have given up. This could almost be Yanks and Brits in WW2. Prickly but cooperating.
This three book series was another Brazee knockout. He certainly has the pulse of the Marines. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and heartily recommend this excellent series.
Another excellent series in the UMFC universe. Great characters with realistic situations and lots of action and adventure. I was hooked from the first chapter. I look forward to more from this author.😀
Well another great storyline with plenty of action and blood and guts just the way I like them lol. Hopefully there will be more stories about Mckeever and Ben
The third book in The Grub Wars subset of the author's United Federation Marine Corps books. Readers can start with the first Grub Wars book, or elsewhere in that universe.
Humans are learning to work and fight together with other alien species in this series (as well as the two major factions of humanity).
