Ashok is a well known hindi poet and writer. With "Kashmirnama : Itihas aur Samkal" and "Kashmir aur Kashmiri Pandits" he has emerged as an expert of Kashmir's history and present.

This refers to Kindle edition.
After having read several books on Kashmir in English I came across this book in Hindi. The author had an advantage of extensive literature available on this subject but he has lost an opportunity to produce a good book in Hindi. The preface has been written by a well-known person from JNU who is a cheerleader of fake secular brigade and intolerant India. It was clear from the beginning that this book will be a distorted history to suit leftist agenda. The author has tried to put in too much information in a limited space which makes this book unreadable. In the end this book turned out to be a catalogue of facts with distorted analysis. No wonder we need authors like William Dalrymple, Roy Moxham, John Keay and Charles Allen to name a few to write readable Indian history. Indian authors unfortunately produce only textbook style books with an exception of Abraham Eraly. I normally finish the book I had started but this was such a hopeless book that I had to leave it half way through. It was a total waste of money and time.

"कश्मीरनामा" - कश्मीर को जानने और समझने के लिए एक शानदार और ज़रूरी किताब। इस किताब कि सबसे बड़ी खासियत ये है कि लेखक ने अपनी राय / विचार थोपने के बजाय तथ्यों को जस का तस प्रस्तुत करना जुड़ा बेहतर समझा है।

कश्मीर की बारे में हमारी समझ अक्सर नेहरू - पटेल - शेख अब्दुल्ला - राजा हरि सिंह और 370 तक ही सीमित रहती है। लेकिन कश्मीर से इससे आगे बहुत कुछ है जो हमें जानना चाहिए जैसे दिद्दा, ललद्यद, नुंद ऋषि, जैन उल अब्दीन वगैरह। श्री अशोक कुमार पाण्डेय की पुस्तक कश्मीरनामा कश्मीर के इतिहास, वर्तमान, परंपरा, संस्कृति को जानने का एक शानदार झरोखा है और ये कश्मीर के बारे में एक मुकम्मल किताब है।

किताब में अलग अलग समय पर विभिन्न शासकों द्वारा कश्मीर को लूटने के और उसके लिए सारे हथकंडे आजमाए जाने के बारे में विस्तार के बात की गई है और ये भी स्पष्ट होता है कि राज्य हथियाने के लिए सारे अनैतिक कार्य करने में किसी को कोई संकोच नहीं होता था। किताब में जैन उल अब्दीन के बेहतरीन शासन का ज़िक्र है तो साथ ही उसके बाद के वक़्त में इस्लाम फैलाने के लिए किए गए शोषण का भी ज़िक्र है। लेखक ने एक ओर जहां महिलाओं की बुरी स्थिति को विशेष रूप से उल्लेखित किया है तो दिद्दा और ललद्यद जैसी प्रभावी महिलाओं का भी भी ज़िक्र है। एक ओर जहां सुन्नी कट्टरता का वर्णन किया गया है वो दूसरी ओर वहां की सूफी ऋषि परंपरा और नुंद ऋषि का भी ज़िक्र प्रमुखता से है। इस कश्मीर के इतिहास जैसे अफ़ग़ान, सिख, मुगल और डोगरा शासन के बारे में विस्तार से बताया गया है तो साथ ही साथ वर्तमान कश्मीर का भी विस्तार से जिक्र किया गया है जैसे भारत में विलय, धारा 370 , पाकिस्तान अधिकृत कश्मीर, 1991 का विध्वंसक समय, कश्मीरी पंडितों का पलायन, अटल युग और उसके बाद का समय।

"कश्मीर" विषय पर इतनी शानदार और मुकम्मल किताब लिखने के लिए अशोक सर को बहुत बहुत शुक्रिया। कश्मीर को जानने के लिए ये किताब बहुत ज़रूरी है और जिसे भी कश्मीर को जानने में रुचि है, ये किताब ज़रूर पढ़नी चाहिए।

हालांकि लेखक ने इस पुस्तक को लिखने में काफी शोध और मेहनत की है लेकिन फिर भी यह एक औसत किताब बन कर रह जाती है। जगह जगह प्रिंट की और तथ्यात्मक भूलें तो हैं ही , लेखक बीच बीच में तथ्यों और घटनाओं की मनमानी व्याख्या भी करने लगता है।
अंग्रेजी में कश्मीर के इतिहास की किताबें पढ़ने वाले व्यक्ति को यह किताब नहीं पसंद आएगी।
एक ही जगह बहुत सी और कई बार असंबद्ध जानकारी ठूंस देने का प्रयास लगता है इसमें जिसके कारण कुछ हिस्से बिलकुल अपठनीय हो गए हैं।
फिर भी हिन्दी में कश्मीर पर कोई अच्छी किताब न होने के कारण ये किताब एक रिक्त स्थान भरती है।

Quite a comprehensive history of Kashmir. A must read to understand about Kashmir and kashmiriyat. The book is not a biased opinion of the author. Rather it is based on the facts that are mostly available on public domain. We need more such books on history which are based on facts available in the public domain.

One of the best and most comprehensive books on the subject. This book captures the the complex subject from all perspective. This book captures even minute details which are relevant and which snowballed into historic events. The author has tried his best to present an unbiased perspective on the subject. Must read for someone who wants to build a deep perspective on the subject

It is a book kind of book because it takes long time to finish, so it gives you time to think about the issues and events, to stuck on them. I liked it though it it a bit lengthy sometimes and some chapters are written like textbooks.

I am giving it 4 out of 5 because it doesn’t carry any map of Kashmir of any time. I think it is must for a History book.

संकलन योग्य पुस्तक। फैक्ट प्रूफिंग पर आधारित यह किताब 'हिंदी में भी अच्छी इतिहास लिखी जा सकती है' की प्रकाश स्तंभ है। जरूर पढ़िए अपने एक अंग के जलन और कारण को महसूस करिए ,नजरअंदाज नहीं करें।
