I joined the Cloister to find the truth. But I've discovered so much more, and the darkness here is seducing me, pulling me down until all I can think of is him. Adam Monroe, the Prophet's son, a dark prince to an empire that grows by the day. He is tasked with keeping me safe from the wolves of the outside world. But the longer I stay at the Cloister, the more I realize the wolves are already inside and under the Prophet's control. If Adam discovers the real reason I'm here, he'll bay for my blood with the rest of them. Until then, I will be Delilah, an obedient servant of the Prophet during the day and Adam's Maiden at night.

Author's Note: If you have a trigger, this book will pull it. The Maiden is the first book of The Cloister Series. The Prophet will release in May, and the conclusion to the series, The Church, will release in June.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️! The Maiden, book 1 of 3. Delilah enters the Cloister on a mission of sorts, but is derailed by her intense & confusing connection to the Prophet’s heir, Adam!

“His kiss isn’t soft. It isn’t a request. Or even a demand. It’s a total and complete annihilation of me, and the creation of us.”

Books in The Cloister Trilogy should be read in order:
Book 1: The Maiden
Book 2: The Prophet
Book 3: The Church

“I’m going to hurt you, little lamb.” He licks me again, from opening to clit. “I’m going to hurt you so much.”

The Maiden (book 1) centers around a religious cult, The Cloister which has taken over a small southern town under the leadership of a sinister, ruthless and sexually depraved leader, The Prophet.

For reasons to unfold with the story, Delilah has joined The Cloister and been assigned the status of Cloister Maiden, to be groomed, trained and broken in to serving The Prophet and his callings.

Adam Monroe, the Prophet’s oldest son and heir is tasked with “protecting” Delilah which is just a pretty word for all the devious and debauched carnal games she will have to endure.

Despite the treacherous environment, Adam and Delilah cannot deny their attraction. In the confines of the bedroom their facades slip allowing for lust-filled moments and fragments of truth.

Told from dual POVs, it’s a dark erotic tale centered around themes of cult phenomena, sexual exploitation, torture, coercion, indoctrination, and with dark and kinky sexual situations, some sensual, others just morbid. Story ends with a nail-biter leading right to book 2, The Prophet for the continuation of their story.

Sinister! Dark! Suspenseful!

“You belong to me. I don’t care what happens. You are mine.” He thrusts again, harder this time. “To fuck. To devour. To hurt.”

"Hurting Delilah is my calling."
description

The Maiden is the first book in The Cloister Series. A dark contemporary romance with a complex plot, passion, and pain, this twisted tale will leave you desperate for more!

description
"There's a plateau in pain where the most profound pleasure lives. Here, when your subject is pliant..."
Delilah is seeking the truth. In order to find answers, she is willing to enter the dark and twisted world of a religious cult called The Cloister. After willingly entering into Hell, Delilah meets her Protector. Adam is a powerful force that is charged with training her and preparing her as an offering for his father the Prophet. Although Adam has trained many maidens before, he knows from the minute he sets his eyes on her that Delilah is different. She is special. As the passion, brutality, and sexual torture blend into a blaring symphony, Delilah and Adam have much to discover. As the truth begins to unravel, more questions surface and it will take perseverance like no other for them both to overcome.

description
"Do you want me to make you come, little lamb?"
Told in dual POV, The Maiden is dark, dirty, and full of depth. As the horrors of this backward religious cult are revealed the emotions and physical reactions you experience are similar to that of a roller coaster running at high speed and flying off of its track. The intensity of the unknown lingers as the plot methodically unfolds. The tempo of the read is severe as you experience the horrors that Delilah and the women in The Cloister are experiencing. The sexual tension between Delilah and Adam is one element that remains steady throughout the read. Their connection is passionate and full of intrigue! As this is the first book in the series, the stage is set with horrific acts done in the name of God. As the background and relationships of the characters are revealed, it is certain that there is more darkness to come!

description

Overall, I highly recommend The Maiden to any dark contemporary romance fans who enjoy suspense and "reading" on the edge! I am completely captivated by these characters and their plight and I look forward to the next book The Prophet. No doubt Ms. Aaron has more darkness to be revealed from this twisted world!

This was a book highly anticipated and I was not disappointed.
If you have read the series (Counsellor) ACQUISITION, you will most probably understand how much wicked Celia Aaron's mind is.
You will also probably notice many similarities between "The Cloister" and the "Acquisition"series. This time religion and blind beliefs have the central role in the people's manipulation, BUT still the twisted sexual needs and the fear are the undermining foundation of the power games.

“Foolish little lamb.” I stroke her cheek with my thumb. “You are still lost, wandering around in the pasture, ignoring the wolves all around you.”

Delilah is a follower of the Prophet and a eager Cloister Maiden. His son, Adam, will be her Protector. Everything is divine, true and of a higher purpose.
Or so it seems.

In truth
-Delilah investigates a murder,
-The Cloister is a place where the innocent girls learn to behave and obey their kinky masters
-The maidens will not be maidens for long
-The Prophet is a junkie who wants as much power as possible
-Adam is a bully who does not resist his father's will and Delilah is his gift

And the Heavenly Church believes in Heavenly Father as well as the Father of Fire (the Satan? Probably)

Delilah will suffer before the first week is gone. Adam have been suffering for twenty years, when his innocence was taken away from him.

“You just have to follow me, your father, your Prophet. Believe in me, and you will live in paradise on earth and in heaven. It has all been shown to me. You’ll see. All of you will see.”

The series has had a grear start. I am looking forward to the next book: The Prophet (The Cloister, #2) by Celia Aaron

Twenty-one year old Delilah has entered 'Heavenly Ministries' as a willing Maiden for a year long religious sect to seek answers to the death of her sister Georgia which is hidden within the walls of the Cloister. But nothing fully prepares her for the training that's expected of the Maidens on a daily basis as seen fit by The Prophet's Spinners in the art of becoming an obedient wife. Like a lamb to the slaughter she has no choice but to succumb to their teachings. I came here to destroy this place, but its breaking me instead. Corruption, brainwashing, lies, drugs, abuse.

Once you are in there is no escape. The compound is encircled with wire fencing that similar to a prison with spikes and barbed wire at the top, it's patrolled by the Prophets own police force.

Each Maiden is assigned a, 'Protector' a man who can teach the ways of pleasuring a man without actually taking the maiden's virginity, to get her ready for her future. Delilah has been assigned Adam, the Prophets oldest son.

Adam isn't just any man. I know that now. He's my weakness, the one that could derail my search for the truth.

Thirty year old Adam Monroe the sadistic prophets son is no less of a prisoner than Delilah is. He's trained maidens every year for the past five years with no mishaps but there's something so different and ethereal about Delilah.

F#cking a 'Maiden' is a sure way to get kicked out of the Compound for good. And for me, the price is far, far higher. But I can do other things.

In the beginning it was hard to get a grasp on Adam, I felt like he was just as twisted and as sick as his father, but as you progress further into the story, he's ruled by his father by an iron fist, if he steps out of line his mother harshly is disciplined.

The Prophets influence and control in the outside community is spreading, many are falling under his guise.

What a wicked web of a sick twisted dark tale this turned out to be, once I started this I was drawn straight away into the story, I couldn't put it down, seconds, minutes, hours ceased to exist, the walking dead could've invaded my township and I would've been oblivious.

This was so good, and I'm so glad I took that plunge and one clicked this one. I've only read a few of this authors previous works but I can honestly say that this was one of my favourites by her.
I didn't find this extremely dark as I have read some out there dark books but others it may cause triggers so read up on the reviews before you step into this one.

This is an author you need to keep an eye on because she's out done herself with 'The Maiden' and is definitely one I'll be following from now on.

Genre: Dark Romance
Type: Book 1 of 3 from The Cloister Trilogy
POV: First Person - Dual
Rating:

Delilah had one mission she needed to complete - to find the truth she had been searching for. In order to do that, she willingly threw herself among the wolves not realizing the depth she had to go before it's too late.

Adam Monroe knew all about power and control. His task was to make sure his charge would live up to the specified standard. But his latest one proved to be a challenge that could possibly sealed his own fate.

I hurt her because I want to, because I fucking crave it, because I’ve become the monster my father always wanted. The same monster he is.

I like Adam as a hero. He was authoritative, didn't censor his thoughts or action and willing to take risks.

My instincts scream at me to run. I don’t. I’m here for a reason, and I won’t leave until I get what I came for.

Delilah on the other hand was a bit of a conflict. I understand her motivation, but at the same time I question her actions and decisions.

I like the overall story. I always enjoy reading stories centered around cults especially how it affected individuals physically and psychologically. I like Adam's role in the story. However a certain aspect about his character was revealed too early, which I feel lessened the impact. There were some "interesting" scenes throughout the book. I certainly wouldn't mind more of those haha!

“Things can always be worse, little lamb. You should know that by now.”

The Maiden is a tale of survival and uncovering truths. I'm looking forward to see which direction the story will go.

The Maiden was a brilliant introduction to the dark and twisted tale of The Cloister. It was at once scary, thrilling and exciting. I loved it!! The Prophet is just a man, hungry for power; the Spinners are his faithful female worshippers, happily doing his bidding when it comes to the Maidens, and willing to do harm to spread his word; the Protectors were far from being protective, as they were men given the charge of furthering the Prophet’s agenda with the Maidens, and they didn’t do this with tenderness or care; and then there were the Maidens, women believed to be pure and true, as they were groomed in the ways of Heavenly Ministries. Some of the Maidens seemed to believe because they were looking for something to believe in, while others were fooled and woke up to the truth and were desperate to escape.

‘Delilah’ has voluntarily entered the Cloister in order to find answers regarding the death of her sister. From the beginning, it’s more than obvious that she wasn’t truly prepared for what she would find or experience in this cult. But then again, what could you do to get yourself ready for this ish? Isolated, abused, force-fed drugs and the Prophet’s teachings, trained to be an obedient wife, and the loss of freedom are all ways to break the Maidens. Delilah isn’t immune to the strategies utilized by the ‘Spinners’ and such. Her one beacon of hope in what looks like a desolate future is Adam, the Prophet’s son. She was tenacious, careful, suspicious, and on a mission. I admired her but shook my head at her every time she realized that she was in over her head. What did she think would happen? While she can’t help but want to leave, she’s conflicted because leaving would mean not finding the answers she was there for. I couldn’t help but admire her conviction and determination.

Although he was the son of the man who controlled the Cloister, it was pretty clear almost from the start that Adam was a victim as well. I still don’t know the full story, but I can’t wait to learn more. He was stuck between a rock and a hard place - hating the way he was forced to live, under his father’s thumb, while falling for his latest Maiden, Delilah. I loved his perspective, not only for the insight it gave me into his character, but for how it gave me glimpses to the inner workings of the Cloister. Through his eyes, I got to see who the Prophet really was and I’m hoping the deeper this story gets, the more truths that will be revealed through Adam’s eyes.

These characters have intrigued me from the start and I can’t help but root for them to find a way to find happiness together. However, I know the road won’t be easy and that happiness isn’t always guaranteed. This story has definitely captured my attention and kept me entertained. I need book two, The Prophet, NOW!!

The Maiden (Book 1): 3.5 Stars
The Prophet (Book 2): 4 Stars

After Delilah found out her sister died, she decides to do everything to discover the truth - and so, she joined a religious cult in search of answers, but nothing could prepare her for the nightmare waiting for her there... 😱

📚 "𝗘𝘃𝗶𝗹 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗮 𝗯𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗻. 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗲𝘁, 𝗮 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝘀𝘂𝗻, 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿’𝘀 𝗸𝗶𝘀𝘀." 📚

The Cloister is a dark sickly religious cult, runs by a ruthless leader, that Satan himself would be afraid of, known as the Prophet.
There, Delilah meets her "protector" (and I'm writing this with quotes, because his role includes everything BUT protecting her... God have mercy!!!) 😬

Adam Monroe is the the Prophets oldest son and his job is to train Delilah. At the beginning it was very hard for me to like him... I thought he was as evil as his sick father. However, as I the story progressed, I realized that he is a prisoner there, just like her. 💥

Between all the cruelty and torture taking place in "the name of God", Adam and Delilah cannot deny their attraction to one another, so they share stolen and forbidden moments of passion together. 🔥
Instead of getting answers, there's only more questions... Will Delilah find out what really happened to her sister? Will she escape...?? 😱😱😱

📚 “𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗯.” 𝗜 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗯. “𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘁, 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂.” 📚

I finished reading this book with one question: WHO IS THIS AUTHOR AND HOW THE HELL DID SHE CAME UP WITH SUCH A CRAZY, WICKED, GENIUS STORY?!?!?! 💣💥

I really liked that Delilah joined to find answers and not because of a stupid blind faith, however I did not understand what was going through her dumb head... Damn, the things she went through was NOT worth the truth! (And may her sister rest in peace but... FUCK THAT BITCH!!!) 😂

This is a dark erotic story. It has lots of kinky and dirty scenes - some were hot and some were just freaking nasty!!! 😱
Despite the parts that made my face twitch with horror, I was sucked into the plot from the start... I felt angry, scared, shocked and left curious to know where this story would develop in the next books! 💥💥💥

So If you like DARK and TWISTED, I really recommend this book... but if you like sweet and romantic?
RUN!!!!!!!! 😂

I went into this one somewhat blind!!! Holy hell, did I get a surprise of my life. I couldn't remember if this was considered dark or not?!!! Let me tell you....it's dark...and kind of horrific. Ironcially, I started watching this tv show, "Escaping Polygamy" and this book reminds me a little bit like that. Just a similar theme is all, please don't think it is exactly like that...but you have the whole religion/cult vibe going on... and a brainwashing Prophet, whom everyone is supposed to worship and follow. Yuck! The amount of abuse going on is terrible. So far, in this first book of the "Cloister" trilogy, there hasn't been any happy times. It is definitely on the dark side of life. That would be my warning to readers!!! Do not go into this expecting a flowery romance...because this is far from that.

I will admit that my mood wasn't in the best place to read something like this. So, at first I was not enjoying it much at all. As I read on though, I became more and more engrossed on what was going on. With the cliffie that we are left with at the end of this morbid tale, I have never been more glad that I waited until the whole trilogy is out before I read it!!! I am dying to dive back into this gruesome world...don't ask me why!!! LOL I am hoping there will be a light at the end of the tunnel! My fingers are crossed!!! There has got to be a way out from all of this perverted, twisted tale....pretty please!!!

Would I recommend this to readers?? Only if you are into dark disturbing stories. If not, then definitely give this a pass, it really isn't for everyone!!

At 21 years old, Delilah joins the Cloister to fill a void and get answers. While believing she was prepared for the truth, she soon discovers a web of deceit and a hierarchy of complex lies, corruption and abuse. Despite what she learns, Delilah forges ahead under the guise of being a proper Maiden all the while being tempted by a ravening wolf in sheep’s clothing.

“His kiss isn’t soft. It isn’t a request. Or even a demand. It’s a total and complete annihilation of me, and the creation of us.”

Being the Prophet’s oldest son, Adam Monroe is in a coveted position at Heavenly Ministries. While his roles are varied, he is a Protector tasked with the safety of a new Maiden. At first blush, she appears like all the others, yet Adam senses something about her that calls to his needs.

“You belong to me. I don’t care what happens. You are mine.”

As Delilah navigates her way through Maiden training and learning the ways of the Prophet, she realizes how desperate her situation is starting to be yet leaving isn’t a viable option. Not knowing whether to trust Adam is a continual question but she wants more. While Adam seems to have his own agenda, he knows the consequences of his actions will be severe.

“Does that bother you, Maiden? That I want to own your cunt and wear your taste on my lips for as long as it lasts?”

From the first page, an atmosphere of uncertainty and immorality surrounds this cast of characters. For those who are believers of the Prophet, they follow with blind allegiance and further subjugate those who show any doubt or rebellion. Though Adam has his beliefs and shows some vulnerability, an air of mystery remains about his intentions and his choice in participating in this illusion.

As this face paced plot progresses, the secondary characters underscore the level of wickedness and manipulation while adding doubt to who can be trusted. The mounting tension and swirling layers of mystery is insidious. Ending in a cliffhanger, I have many questions about Adam and his motivations. With Delilah, I’m looking forward to more insight into her past and how it caused her to take such a dangerous risk. Of course, there are certain characters who need to pay for their actions.

The Maiden is a gripping story that shows how evil can be disguised by the light. With intricate levels of lies, those who join the Cloister are forever scarred. With a total of three books in this series, I’m anxious to know how dark and depraved the games will be.

Also, I apologize in advance for this review being as long as a book.

Oh my lanta, Celia Aaron, I thought I loved The Acquisition series (and Lucius is still my number one man), but The Cloister series is my new FAVE. Okay, yes, I've only read The Maiden so far, but it has already made my thoughts on this series firm. Things I love: Cults, hot yet bad heroes, brave heroines, secrets, and books that verge on being almost too dark for the general public. The Maiden? Checks all those boxes off and then some. It's a perfect combination of the horrifying stories we've heard about real life cults mixed in with the right amount of fiction to make it an enjoyable read. It's a twisted story, filled with things that might horrify you, but the ending of just book one alone promises that revenge and redemption is still to come. These girls, the maidens, won't be going down without a fight, and some of the twisted followers of the Prophet may not be as firm in their faith as they let on.

"Just another lamb to the slaughter"

It's pretty impossible for me to write this review without stopping every second to just say, OH MY GAH I LOVED IT. I'll try to edit those out... I've needed a good dark book, particularly a series, and there is no better person suited for the job than Celia Aaron. The Maiden, told from the alternating perspectives of Maiden Delilah and the Prophet's son Adam, is part terrifying brainwashing of innocent women and part taboo romance with a healthy helping of smut. My obsession with cults started when I was young, so I can absolutely say much of this book has probably happened to blind followers in real life. Celia focuses in on the power that comes with being the leader, the power and harm that comes from being related to The Prophet, and the lack of power that comes with being a naive follower seeking the path of the chosen One. The path they'd been lied to about. There's a mystery to it, something we aren't yet privy to knowing the full details of, but our glimpses into the the maiden's daily lives gives us enough information to let us know things just aren't right around here.

"Square jaw, sharp nose, full lips, dark hair, and those unreadable eyes-he is handsome. I assume Satan is, too."

Though Delilah is as innocent and ethereal looking as they come, she's hardened, brave, and smart. Her desire to become a maiden is different than the others and her attitude is something that draws Adam to her. Adam is the hot and sadistic son of the Prophet, he does the number crunching and though he does his father's bidding, he too carries the weight of knowing what life was before The Prophet outgrew his humble beginnings. He's disenchanted by the drugs, the lies, the bevy of women available to sample from, and something in Delilah brings him back to life. Their role as Protector and Maiden is threatened by the romance the sparks between them. I'm sorry, I tried to hold off as long as I could, but its just so good. I LOVED THESE TWO. Loved. I want to be Delilah, well not for this cult, but so I can get my hands on Adam. They are both incredibly complex characters and much of their past and secrets have yet to be revealed. Their draw to one another is immediate, though for different reasons, and as they come to know one another in an odd sort of way we get to see a glimpse at how these two could possibly be the beginning of the end for The Cloister. There are also some really strong secondary characters in this book, beyond The Prophet himself, there are other maidens, Adam's brother Noah, and several others that carry just enough weight in the book to let us know that there is more to them than first meets the eye.

"Once I do, I'll never let you go."

The Maiden is a well-developed, detailed, and incredibly intriguing dark read that gives readers just the right amount of story to draw them in to this new series. Cults have drawn in outsiders and followers alike with their secrets, the general public fascinated by what lies behind the walls and how one person becomes so powerful in the eyes of their faithful servants. Celia Aaron takes that fascination and gives us the truth, that the walls hold secrets, deadly lies, and breed fear in those that question anything. She also gives us a heroine, and maybe even a hero, that we can root for and fall for. Revealing that the bad and the dark can be turned to light, though I'm not sure how that's possible with this one just yet. For me, The Maiden is a hit and one I highly recommend to all the lovers of the dark, dirty, and taboo.

Damn You Celia Aaron!!! I finished my 2nd reading of this book & have the worst book hangover of the year!! I want book #2 & don't wanna read anything else! What have You Done to Me?

Now onto my review...
I have to start off by specifying that I am a HUGE Celia Aaron fan! If you couldn't tell by the rant above to the author this was a damn good book. So good that I immediately read it again. Yes you heard that right, I immediately read it again. Was there anything missing for me? Sure, I wanted more, hence the reading twice consecutively. I do wish we would have gotten to the Winter Solstice or at least 1 trial as there must be plural, which will no doubt be interesting.
Celia Aaron gets back to her Dark Romantic Suspense Roots & I could not be happier!

This story will have you salivating in no time. It has all the things! This book is the set up to what will become a very sought-after series. Dark Lovers Rejoice! The author gives you just enough to tease & it becomes a great big game of clue for Delilah. I will say heed the trigger warning. If you are sensitive to religion being perverted, do not attempt.

This is a story about a Cult that is trying to convey the impression that it is a church and the head pastor believes that he has direct communication with God and has been given divine prophecy to only him. He preaches this "revelation" & has thousands of people who are true believers. He is definitely a False Prophet and you will soon see why.

Delilah, our heroine is not a believer and has personal reasons for joining the Cloister of Maidens. Our Hero is the son of the Prophet & the perfect Anti-hero. I was left with more questions than answers & this is one puzzle I am dying to solve.

Book #2 will be out in May & I absolutely cannot wait!

I graciously received a free copy for this ARC of this book & would like to thank the author. I voluntarily chose to post a review of my Honest Opinion of this book with No Influence or Interference from any company of person.

“You don’t tell the wolf what to do, little lamb.”

This one starts off slowly and gets intense.
Basically a religious cult. A heroine you’re rooting for, and an anti-hero you just want to yell at, but you also sort of root for him to go hero too. This story is dark and not pretty at all. There are certain characters that I honestly HATE so much, and this is just a book. Like I was in a bad mood at points when reading, because I dislike them so much. This book is FULL of abuse triggers, so if that’s no good for you then steer clear.

The ending is a cliffhanger, and it’s a crazy one. I’m definitely going to continue with the series though. It’s got my interest peaked.

So Delilah, if that’s really your name? It isn’t. Joined The Cloister as a maiden to find out what happened to her sister who died as a maiden. She goes into this knowing it’s a cult and that she’s probably in for some real shit. Because she did her homework.

Basically a maiden is a whore in training; everything from learning to take it up the ass to water play to breath play ... yada yada!

By day they work with the spinners; women with a god complex and/or faithful servants. They mostly sound like those evil nuns who abuse for fun. And by night they go to their protector which is the most bs title of all. Theses assholes can do whatever they want to their maiden except take they’re virginity (except the anal one, that’s ok apparently.)

Delilah’s protector is The Prophet’s (aka the reigning bullshitter) sadistic son Adam. Yet there’s more than meets the eye with this cat. He hates his father but has no issues following orders, the more violent, the better. But he’s also a loose cannon just going off all Willy nilly.

As the story progresses you find that he in his own fucked up kind of way actually starts to care about her. And she in turn kinda likes him simply because he’s the lesser of two evils.

But Debbie, how do you feel about this book?

And the answer to that is very little. I’m simply curious to see what happens and too late I realized I won’t be finding out until the end of the third book.

Perhaps I will start to feel something for these characters later but no matter what, I just need answers.

4 'Lamb' stars

Evil isn’t a bad thing when it’s all you’ve ever known. It’s a comfortable blanket, a warm sun, a lover’s kiss.

It took me quite some time to write this review because I couldn't decide about the rating. I liked the book very much but there wasn't exactly a wow factor that would convince me to give it 5 stars. Maybe the following books will prove me wrong.

When I started reading it, I was a little concerned about how I'm gonna like MCs. No matter how good the story is, nothing can save the book for me if I don’t connect with characters. Surprisingly, both Adam and Delilah grew on me pretty quickly. Adam was not as bad as I thought he would be. I haven't made an opinion about Delilah just yet. I was afraid she will be one of those TSTL heroines but she is a complete opposite. I admire the strong backbone her character has.

The book ends with a nasty cliffy and I'm so intrigued how this story will play out. Right now I can't really imagine how the HEA would be possible. I have some pretty fucked up endings in my mind. We'll see. But I will be fairly disappointed if nothing burns at the end.

Speaking of fucked up stuff... This wasn't as fucked up as I was expecting it to be. Yes, The Cult was hideous but I've read about worse. Which is kind of disturbing. I mean, what kind of books I used to read?? Anyway, despite this Prophet not being the worst creature ever, he still inspired the sadistic part of my imagination to come out to play. I admit I spent quite some time imagining how painful end awaits The Prophet and his "protectors".

There are also a lot of characters I'm genuinely curious about. I wonder what will happen with Noah. Will he go to the dark side or finally start thinking with his own head. In my opinion, he just needs a good hard kick in his balls. That will make him see straight. I pretty much hate Grace but I have a feeling she'll get a more prominent role in the future and maybe even change sides. We probably won't get rid of her soon. As for Adam and Delilah, I can't wait to continue with their story and see how their relationship will progress. Right now, it kind of seems like a very unhealthy one that is almost psychopathic in a way.
"It would be so easy to break her neck. A slender, delicate thing, requiring less force than I’d ever needed before. The final snap would play like a blissful amen at the end of an aria from hell."

I don’t know why I’m continually surprised by Aaron’s talent, but I am! The Maiden is the first installment of a religious cult trilogy. I am fascinated with this sort of thing as I find it very hard to believe the level of brainwashing that occurs in this environment.

Although The Maiden is fiction, it’s very clear some of the practices outlined in this story are steeped in fact. Adam and Noah’s father is the Prophet. I saw very little paternal affection towards the boys. They seemed to be regarded as the other Protectors are regarded. They exist only at the will of the Prophet. The Maidens exist to please the Prophet. Circumstance bring one Maiden to Adam’s attention. This installment outlines certain disasters that occurred as a result of their meeting. Too vague? Excellent! Read the story!

This story has all the feels! The writing is so realistic that when certain things occurred that involved running, my heart rate increases as if I were running with them! I love the scenes and the characters! Well almost all....Grace, the head Spinner is a bitter, foul-mouthed, jealous alley bat! I live for her comeuppance! And she can take the limp noodle aka The Prophet with her to meet her doom!

Five stars!

I liked it but the pace of the story moves way to slow. There were many times the story could have moved forward quicker to keep me invested. The author chose to S T R E T C H this out.

I will read #2 eventually, but I hope things move a lot faster.

I need a lot more action and connection than what I got here. But! The story is well written, other than the pace and lack of actual action.

100% a Cult story.
Not much of a romance. The mc's needed to connect more and faster than what they did.

If your sister was killed would you risk everything to find out why? This gripping story of the cult will grip your mind and have you exploring the what ifs in the Heavenly Ministry underworld. Delliah joined the Cloister to find the truth about what and who killed her bestie Georgia.

Blurb

A dark romance unlike anything you've read before.

After thoughts...

What I enjoyed about this book was the way the dark subject matter was handled. It was done right. The sex was meaningful and a not over dramatized. The element of suspense was throughout the book, you are frightened but intrigued and curious. The plot and setting go well together and the story is believable. I am excited to read the next one. Great job Celia.

Delilah entered The Cloister with one mission to accomplish--to know the truth. As a Maiden, she must undergo some training under the hands of Spinners. Will she be able to endure everything and not give up?

When Adam Monroe, the son of the Prophet, first laid eyes on Delilah, he felt something that he hasn't felt in a long time. Undeniable attraction. As a Protector, he chooses her to be under his wing while in training. Is there a possible romance between this two in a place like The Cloister?

The Maiden is not for the faint-hearted. It's mind-fuck! The story is definitely a page-turner! It's dark and twistedly good. Although, there are some scenes that make me shudder and introduced me to some character that I want to do some bodily harm. But did I stop? No, I didn't! It got me more interested to see how this story will pan out. And with that kind of ending, you want to read The Prophet, NOW!

I had a pleasant time reading this story. Celia Aaron once again started a series that will get you craving for more Adam & Delilah. If you're into dark, erotic romance, this book is for you. Greatly recommended!

"Something flaps in my chest, its wings dry and brittle, the feathers rotted and the bones showing."

My first books by Celia Aaron was the Acquisition series. Which was at the same time my first encounter with dark romance and I was quite surprised how much I liked it. Hence I was happy to learn there's going to be a similar series by her. I got lucky enough winning an ARC, but hell if this is not a curse at the same time as I have to wait now, sitting on hot coals, waiting for the other two books to be published.

"I meet his gaze again, feeling its weight settling all over me, pulling me down to an abyss full of dark shapes and moving shadows."

The Maiden takes us down a dark road, a dark roller coaster, set up in hell. While reading I literally felt the darkness creeping up into my bones. Its intensity keeps your eyes glued to the pages. No matter how dark and awful things get. The Maiden is thrilling but cruel, hot, intense and never doubting there's light in this terrifying darkness.

Please note the trigger warning. The Maiden contains lot of things that might pull your trigger, if you have one.

"Foolish little lamb." I stroke her cheek with my thumb. "You are still lost, wandering around in the pasture, ignoring the wolves all around you."

Delilah is a pretty brave character. The reason for joining the Cloister is as much honorable as it's actually stupid. The things she has to endure are unbearable and it is frightening. She's strong for not breaking and staying as true to herself as possible, never wavering from her mission.

"Broken. It's what I saw in him earlier. His truth that echoed inside the darkest parts of my soul. Just like me, he's broken."

Adam is hard to grab. He's different, that's pretty much obvious. But I wonder about his agenda. What's he up to? Adam is nothing like the other protectors and not only because he's one of the Prophet's sons. Even though he seems to despise the whole cult around his father and what he'd set up, Adam also gets something out of it. Almost like he's cherry picking. But we'll see where this is going.

"His dark eyes promise hell, oblivion, the sort of sin that will never wash off."

Adam and Delilah are unconventional but great together. I know, it feels a lot like the Stockholm syndrome, but there is more to them. They are like two planets orbiting around each other, each keeping the other in their very own gravity. Let's phrase Adam and Delilah's relationship this way: And so the wolf fell in love with the lamb. What a stupid lamb and what a sick, masochistic wolf.

"She's still just another lamb to the slaughter, and I'm the one who'll wield the blade."

The Maiden simply flashed me. It's so dark, intense, thrilling, terrifying. A dark emotional roller-coaster you need to be prepared for. You will hear and see things you wish you'd never seen or heard. And yet you are captivated by its dancing flames in the darkness, full of imagery, passion and energy. Well done, Celia!

"I guess you'll have to trust me now." I whisper. He strokes down my cheek, then rests his hand possessively around my neck while his dark eyes capture mine. "Once I do, I'll never let you go."

The Maiden is fucked up. It's depraved and also amazing. There's so much more to it than that but I won't get into that because I don't want to spoil it for others.

However I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed it and cannot wait to read the next book in the series. I'm really excited to see what The Prophet will bring.

I recommend this book to all lovers of dark romance.

***Updated - Having read Book #2, The Prophet, this is definitely a series worth investing in. A lot of the things that left me hanging in this book are explained in book 2.***

Gosh this is one of those books that's really hard to review. I liked the book, it wasn't amazing but at the same time it wasn't a chore to get through or boring. I enjoyed the story but did feel that, with a few small tweaks, it could have been so much better. Looking at all the rave reviews it may be that this author's style of writing just doesn't quite work for me.

You have already been warned that this is dark, so you know full well that life in The Cloister is NOT going to be all sweetness, light and coming to God. I'm not sure if I felt this book moved too swiftly into exposing the Maidens to the dark side of Heavenly Ministries, however (a) I have no idea how cults work and (b) this is a work of fiction. I just thought it would have been a little more believable that the girls be fooled with 'nice' for a while before the true nasty started. It didn't spoil my enjoyment of the book in any way.

The book is written from Adam and Delilah's points of view, allowing us to get to know them really well. I loved Adam's pov, really felt his emotions and was drawn into his inner battles. That said, I couldn't understand what was preventing him from leaving. Perhaps this will be addressed in the next book but it was yet another unanswered question and threw me out of the story.

Whilst I liked Delilah, I didn't feel as strong a connection to her. Whilst we get to 'hear' her thoughts and understand why she acts as she does, I found the emotional connection was lacking.

The themes of the book are very dark, but because I didn't feel Delilah's terror, revulsion, anger, horror I was disassociated from it all. I would have liked a description of how her feelings physically affected her, if that makes sense. It felt too much like she took everything in her stride and the only time she felt unhappy was when Adam didn't visit her! She should have had her heart pounding in terror, her mouth too dry to swallow, her hands trembling in fear but, for me, she felt unaffected by events and like an ice queen.

I stand and walk to the bathroom, examining my injuries under the harsh bathroom light. My mottled skin will heal in time....

Still not panicking about what will happen next, Delilah? I sure as heck know I would be!

The book only covers a week or so, and although that may seem slow it was totally necessary for world building, developing of characters and disseminating information in order to set the scene. Overall I enjoyed the book, I found it really easy to read, it held my attention and curiosity will have me continuing with the series.

Unmistakable undertones of The Handmaid's Tale, it wished they weren't so blatant. I went into this book with high hopes, I LOVED Blackwood and have been wanting another Celia Aaron book that could live up to it.

Unfortunately there was so much going on that I felt like nothing was flushed out very well in the short span of this book, or novella since it really is very short.
We have:

The heroine isn't sure she can truly trust her "Protector" but she also fears when he's not around. He's not a good man and he's not good to hear. The Protectors in general are not at all what their title implies.
There is also a huge age difference between the heroine and the anti-hero. The heroine is also written like someone much older than her 21 years. This is often an issue with New Adult the genre. She should be finishing up college (she does mention she attends) not here where she is, so it all seems a bit off. There was also a bit of a continuity issues with the anti-hero's age. The age difference between he and his brother puts him at about 35 but towards the beginning of the book it implied he was 30 so there is that issue as well.

Some more editing would have really helped this book and the author try to decide what points she really wanted to focus on instead of trying to fit 20 different plot points in as well as working out the continuity issues that occasionally crept up. Not to mentioned, it's the first book in the trilogy but it's so short the author should have just written one full length book, charged full price for it, and made it more cohesive and it would have probably been better over all than a story in three parts.

If you'd not read it don't. Stick with Blackwood, it's far superior and flushed out and well rounded with no cliffhanger or anti-heroes who don't know what they want.

Recensione sulla mia pagina Bookstagram
https://www.instagram.com/p/CLjNVlcHJ...

«Dovete solo seguire me, il vostro Profeta. Credete in me e vivrete in paradiso».

This book is a perfect example of what I love about Goodreads, I've been seeing reviews and love for this series everytime I logged on for the past 2 weeks time. And seeing all the love it got I knew I was missing out on something. So what do I do, I buy it of course (with money I'm supposed to be saving oops) and I immediately knew it was worth the money.

I was only two chapters in before I knew this was gonna be an amazing ride, and boy was it. I had only just finished the first chapter by Adam and I knew I was gonna love him and he did not disappoint.

If you haven't read this series yet take my advice and start it right this second, you will not be sorry you did. Obviously this review is for all 3 books.

The thing I think I was most impressed with about this series, I didn't notice a single spelling or grammatical error. That is rare. It's a pet peeve of mine so this series earned so many points from me just for this.

Delilah is a young girl who joins this religious group, Heavenly Ministries, and volunteers for their maiden program in what's known as the Cloister. On her first night in the Cloister, she's put under the charge of the oldest son of the Prophet, Adam Monroe. Adam is no stranger to new Cloister maiden's but something about Delilah's starting to get under his skin.
The monster is back to the fore, his violence no longer promising pleasure.
Delilah may play the part of the devout young woman but her motivations for joining the Cloister are not purely spiritual. While she's trying to search for answers she gets more immersed in life at the Cloister and finds herself unprepared for the trials that await an expectant maiden.
I open my eyes and stare at the golden cross above me, upside down and pointing toward me. Damnation hangs over my head.
Adam Monroe's been living life as the Prophet's devout, oldest son since he was twelve and his dad came home proclaiming that God had spoken to him. With Adam's brother and mother both immersed in Heavenly Ministries too, the family business keeps everyone on a tight leash. Adam is one of the Protectors who are tasked with training the Maidens and the intriguing Delilah lands in his care.
Something flaps in my chest, its wings dry and brittle, the feathers rotted and the bones showing through.
I definitely liked Adam. He's got a bit of a devil-may-care attitude and he's ruthless when needed. I'm curious to learn more about his past and what else goes on at Heavenly Ministries (you know he's got all the dirt). He definitely makes for an intriguing male lead.
I am devoured. His kiss is ownership, more permanent than a tattoo and more scarring than fire.

Delilah on the other hand is almost entirely a mystery. We don't even know her real name (which is why I keep putting it in italics, because that's the name given to her when she joins the Cloister). I think it's harder for me to like her because I feel like I don't know her all that well. We only really know the person she presents, the devout daughter of Heavenly Ministries.
The fallen of this world will seek to destroy us. The good people here—the heathens out there want you dead.
This was definitely an intriguing start to my time in the Cloister. I feel like I still have a lot of questions and I'm eager to get them answered.

When Celia Aaron tells you her new series is dark and mind blowing, you take that statement as truth and be nervous as hell. That is exactly how I felt reading this novel. I was anxious, nervous, shocked and consumed!! I could not stop reading as I sat transfixed reading this story in one sitting. I was unable to look away as the story was compelling and so addicting. Adam and Delilah were amazing. This story was dark and twisted but you couldn't help but want to read more and more about them. They were sexy and even though this story was depraved I wanted more and more of them. I am soo hooked!!

This story was fantastic! Delilah joins The Cloister to find the truth about a secret they have long since tried to bury. But as she spends more and more time there, their brutal, twisted and depraved rules begin to paint a clear picture of what The Cloister really is. As she begins to sort the truth from all the lies, she finds herself seduced and drawn down deep into the rabbit hole by the dark prince himself, Adam Monroe, the Prophet's son. He is tasked with "protecting" her and in turn she is his "Maiden" to do what he will for a year. What follows is a disturbing yet sexy story where lines are crossed and truths are revealed about the true purpose of the Prophet, his mission and the role everyone plays in his sick games.

Gah!!! Trying to keep this review spoiler free is SO hard when all you want to do is scream and shout about the amazingness of this story and all if it parts. I absolutely loved this story. I loved Delilah's strength and determination to uncover the truth of her mission and how she is drawn to Adam despite him being the Prophet's son. Likewise I loved their connection and sexy games as their chemistry was COMBUSTIBLE. I am so hooked and addicted and that ending?!! OMG!! I can't wait for book two!! Bravo! 4.5 stars!! ~Ratula

Delilah joins a cult to find answers to why her sister died. I liked that she wasn’t brainwashed and she was joining for another reason.

The book started off good and it had promise. I liked how fast it started and the book has a good mixture of dialogue and inner monologues. I’m kind of picky with word flow.

Adam is the son of the leader. Just because he is the leader doesn’t mean he isn’t treated any better. He answers to his ruthless father and you feel for the guy.

I liked some stuff about the book and some stuff just put me off.

The dark elements were good. I didn’t think the book was too dark, but there were some parts that make you slightly uncomfortable, but it kept you glued to the pages.

The inner workings of the cult are a huge factor of the book. You read a lot of how the girls are trained and how Adam is working in the group. What made this different is that there are older girls that train the new ones. You don’t really know what they are trained for, but it’s hinted that it’s a sex ring and they will be sold into sex slavery.

All of that is nice, except for the fact that the interaction between Adam and Delilah is very minimal. I can count a handful of times he and her actually interact and it’s always with him to “play” with her and then leave. There was little chemistry and little story building between the two and that kind of made me not so interested in the story.

They didn’t really have a relationship.

I also didn’t like that Delilah doesn’t get any answers for her sister and that’s the WHOLE reason why she’s in the mess in the first place. I find it pretty stupid she joins the cult and doesn’t realizes what she is getting herself into.

I’m not sure if I will continue with the series, but the book leaves on a good cliffhanger so I’m curious.
