Superbunny and the Peas of Doom

Rate this book
This is a "read aloud" story for parents to read to/with children aged 5 to 11. The star of the story is "you" (i.e. your child) and the story contains lots of humour which can be enjoyed by adult and child alike. In "Superbunny and the Peas of Doom", you fall down a rabbit hole and meet mild-mannered Clara Kent, who turns out to be more than she seems...

Dr. Hypo made our bunny forget why he'd fallen down the rabbit hole and a meeting with both of them I meeting Clare Kent at the bank. You were looking for a snack and you wanted peas. We were out and you went to get some. He lost his balance and rolled in a whole group of masked Bank Robbers who came into the bank, "Halt!" Said the security guard. The robbers fired his gun and froze the one talking. We hadn't heard from Super Bunny. What did he say? Did they get away with all the loot?

This is a silly and fun book for kids. I liked the author's suggestion that these events had already happened to the child being told the story, but there's a good reason they can't remember. Fun read.

I was enjoying the story very much until the use of the word "cripple" a couple of times and then "hostile Red Indian hedgehogs" shoot arrows at people and set fire to a home. Really? How inappropriate. How can someone be that culturally unaware?

Tale centers around a child who is hungry for a snack and, for some reason, decides he must have peas. Knowing the rabbits love to eat carrots and figuring that peas go with carrots, he goes off to search for a rabbit. He meets Clara Kent who is a super bunny that fights crime. As the story unfolds, the child meets a peacock and a horse who involve him in other crime adventures. Is the quest to find peas successful? What lessons are learned?

This book is advertised as a bedtime story for children ages five to ten, but it is really an early chapter book. The plot is a bit complex for younger children; there are no illustrations. Recommended for early readers who enjoy animal or superhero stories.
