Shards of a Shattered Mirror Book I: Cryptic

Rate this book
Seven hundred years in the future, the ice caps have melted, sea levels have risen and several coastal cities have become seaports. Humans, aliens and Hybrids have formed an Interstellar Alliance that spans dozens of worlds. Due to the spread of humanity outward to the stars and the reduction of Earth’s population, the planet has been restored to a more natural state.

Over time, human-alien Hybrids evolved and discovered that their telepathic senses could not only allow them to interact with nature spirits and other Elemental beings that were invisible to humans in the past, but that their abilities could also be expanded through the use of a powerful potion that opened their minds to parallel realities and higher dimensions. With this knowledge, they developed the Five Levels of Mastery that gave their kind the ability to manipulate the very fabric of spacetime.

It is into this world that Willa Hillicrissing was born. A thirteen-year-old human-alien Hybrid with golden eyes and a wild mane of fox-fur hair, Willa was raised amid the green forests and peaceful seaside setting of Port Dublin in Ireland where, as an apprentice to her Hybrid mentor, Holly Cotton, she takes her first steps on the path to becoming a Cryptic.

But when Holly discovers that Willa possesses an ancient gene capable of magnifying her powers far beyond the abilities of even the most experienced Sage, she’s called upon to protect the Earth and the Alliance from a ruthless alien Empire bent on enslaving every world in its path.

Darryl Anka is an internationally known channeller, speaker and author with sales of over 300,000 books in Japan.
Anka claims that he began to communicate, through trance-channeling, with an extra-terrestrial entity called Bashar in 1983. He describes Bashar as existing in a parallel reality, in a time frame that we perceive as the future. The monologues and dialogues with Bashar cover a wide range of topics including human psychology, planetary evolution, metaphysics, and extra-terrestrials. Occasionally, Anka will act as a guest speaker in conferences related to issues such as ET contact. Anka has also channeled other entities, and the entity Bashar has also been channeled by other mediums.
Anka appeared in the 2008 documentary Tuning In alongside other notable channels such as Lee Carroll.
Anka's channeling sessions, private and public, are usually recorded and many have been compiled into various books and audio-visual material. His first book, The New Metaphysics, includes Q&A sessions with Margot Chandler, Ph.D., and was edited by Rosemarie Hopf-Weichel, Ph.D.

The spirit of nature and the spirit of space are beautifully woven through the lives and relationships of the characters in this book. It allows us to peek into a world 700 years from now where the beings of earth, along with otherworldly inhabitants, evolved into magical unique individuals. The descriptions of each being, from nature spirit entities to hybridized humans take the reader to an appreciation of the remarkable and distinctive essence of each soul. The astounding abilities that have evolved, not only through evolution, but within the lifetimes of the central characters are given life themselves in a beautiful dance within each character’s psyche and between the characters to create a rich tapestry of a tale that I felt mysteriously at home in.

A fine book from Darryl

Darryl is known for channelling insights from Bashar, an entity from future. The main character, Willa had come across in some channelling sessions before. She lives on Earth 700 years into the future. How would this earth be after 700 years? This book is for those who are curious about earth's future.
Everything exists here and now. Simultaneous parallel realities. One of the possible dramas our consciousness could project.
This book is for those of who listen to Bashar's teachings. This focuses on the infinite possibilities, our Self could come up with. An entertaining read. We look forward to the next in the sequels.

In Serbian language Willa (Вила, Vila) means a fairy or she-elf.

Great scifi and fantasy writing.

I'm enjoying the story, but given that you have the insight of Bashar I find it disturbing that there may be such violent and ignorant races in our Universe. Knowing the truth of the quantum reality I can see that all of these ideas are probable in our future. I'm glad that Sasquatch is in this story. They are real people and sometimes visit me. Good reading.

Might be an enjoyable read for a young person

I spent a few moments deciding between one and two stars. I’ve read worse, and among those are stories I just stop reading and don’t finish. This one I read through, and am planning on reading the next book, to see how things turn out. That must mean that there is worth here, right.

It just feels very basic, oversimplified and immature. These stories with child heroes often suffer from this plot weakness; it’s as though all the adults can think of anything without the child figuring it out through some divine power. That’s the draw of the story, a young person’s fantasy that they might reverse the common roles and have everything suddenly hinge on them.

That doesn’t mean that the adults have to be so vapid, and naive. I found it diff to accept the premises, and so had to push myself through the story. A utopian future in which mankind has given up warring is worth trying to envision, but not by assuming they just regressed into naivite and non-aggression.

At the heart of the story is a girl coming of age into metaphysical power, and dealing with the fact that she’s more unusual than anyone expected. It expresses both the frustration of being weird and the excitement of being special. It would have been worth seeing how men can arrange themselves in support of such a discover, if everyone’s behavior could be more believable.

If I were as young as the main character, I might enjoy this romp more. But even when I was that age, I preferred more fleshed out characters, and world building that had more cohesion.

This is a good book for casual reading that involves social interactions between vanilla humans, magically gifted humans and mythic creatures; it’s probably best kept to young readers.

Whether realizing it or not, the author provides a powerful alchemical formula for a lasting transformation of consciousness. The five alchemical elements emphasized as the ‘Five Levels of Mastery’ provides a unique take on such alchemical formulas. Many parallels exist between the proposed path of Willa, the Cryptic, and countless other esoteric and shamanic traditions in the real world. This first part of hopefully a complete ‘fiction’ tells a terrific story of one such path of initiation. Looking forward to hearing more about Willa and her alchemical transformation.

finally a book that can keep up with my expansive warped mind

Darryl has out done himself with shards. Mind bending and had you grasping for the next page. I am very up to date with his channeling and information he’s presented on Orion so for this book feels like I’m receiving even more information from the cosmos. Past present future all happening at once and it’s almost as if I’m there as I read this book. Thanks Darryl <3

3.5 stars! It’s been a long while since I’ve read a sci-fi novel and it’s not exactly my cup of tea but this was pretty good! It’s well-written and the universe building was great! I’d highly recommend for any sci-fi enthusiast!

Great world building and I loved the main character's journey. The author is building an epic so there are a lot of characters but there's a list at the end.

The idea of this book was really good. The different species and stories were well developed but I just could not connect to it. I wouldn't mind reading future installments from this universe.
